Morning all. Not sure what to report about last night. Technically it was not good but on the other hand I got a good bit of sleep. She didn't nap yesterday afternoon and I was hoping that if she went to bed early she would make like Anna's DS and pan out for 12 hours Hmm Wink

Obviously that didn't happen, she woke 3 times between 6.20 and 10pm. I decided I was going to boob her tonight instead of withholding as could not face another night of such little sleep. So boobed her at 10pm and she went back down easily. I was asleep by 10.30. DD1 woke with a sore throat at 1.40 and DD2 woke just after - may have gone longer otherwise. Boobed her again, she was back down by 2.10 or thereabouts and then she slept until...7.10! So that was a good stretch for her. Dh and I were trying to figure out if there really wasn't another wake-up in between but nope there definitely wasn't. Who knows what kind of jinks tonight will bring.

It does seem like all the bad sleepers are on the boob! Though so was my first at this age and she was doing 13 hours at night with a small 10min feed around 4.30 or 5 so I would call that a good sleeper. I do know a few other older breastfed babies who sleep 12 hours with just a morning/evening feed also. I think haven't's DD sleeps well?

In general though I definitely think ff babies sleep better for the first year. After that until school age I think there's no predicting what the little darlings might do, but for the first year (first 6 months in particular until they're on solids), for sure ff babies sleep better. IME!

Greenstone · 15/10/2015 11:05

Meant to say good luck lady! Will it be DD's first trip on a plane? Hope you get some rest can you drug babies for flights?

On the developmental thing, the one thing I have noticed that DD2 doesn't do at all is dance! I have very clear memories of DD1 and DN having some serious moves by 9/10 months but DD2 doesn't do it at all. We should be playing her more music though.

haventgotaclue1 · 15/10/2015 14:55

Yep greenstone you are right - she's got hand foot and mouth Sad. Took her to the docs before seeing your post. Gave me some cream for the rash and she also has a fungal infection on her bottom and under her arms, poor little mite.

I must get the prize for worst night's sleep last night: she fell asleep at 7 for an hour; then pretty restless until 9.30; then literally wide awake until gone 3am - NOTHING would work at all. Tried calpol, bf, jigging / rocking, shushing, our bed. ..In the end enough time hadn't passed that we could give her more medicine so opted for baby crack. Fell asleep about 15 mins later. ..

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 15/10/2015 16:31

Being bf doesn't mean crap sleeper equally being ff doesn't mean great sleeper, my first slept 12hrs a night from 15weeks no waking through development leaps or teething. I have equally night nannied for ff babies who haven't been sleeping and need gentle sleep training.

This little monkey went from sleeping really well last week to 2-4Times a night this week it's this bloody cough he has and once he has been awake coughing he needs boobing back to sleep.

haventgotaclue1 · 15/10/2015 19:59

Re sleeping through the night, Greenstone you're right (again!) - until last night.... DD is a very good sleeper (normally) - goes through the night and I'm BF her 2-3 times during the day (nothing during the night).... But this was the baby that required NO sleep in the first 10 weeks of her life - we worked it out that she was averaging 6 hours in any 24 hour period...It seemed that as soon as we put her in her cot bed in her own room she slept much better.

happypotamus · 15/10/2015 22:01

After failing her HV assessment yesterday for not pulling to stand or walking, she pulled herself up today and stood there. I wa at work so not seen this yet. If only the assessment could have been tomorrow instead!

My rubbish sleeper disproves the theory. She is either breast or bottle fed, depending on whether I am at work at bedtime, but it makes no difference to whether or not she sleeps.

MrsAukerman · 16/10/2015 06:56

Keep falling off the thread.

happypotamus · 16/10/2015 07:23

SHE SLEPT ALL NIGHT!!! Almost. I don't know why or how, but she woke up just as I got into bed, I fed her and she went back to sleep until 7am!! Best night's sleep ever. I don't expect it to happen again but it was a nice surprise.

haventgotaclue1 · 16/10/2015 10:25

Woo hoo happy Grin!!!! Go baby happy! DD also just started to pull herself up on things (or at least trying to!)

We also had an improvement on Wednesday night - she slept from 7-12.30; was awake for 2 hours then slept til 6. Has now been napping for 1.5 hours, so must be trying to catch up on lost sleep Smile

ladydolly · 16/10/2015 10:40

Yay! happy times for happy!

We had a better night, down at 7, long feed at 2.30, up at 5.30 and fell asleep in bed with me twice after then but I woke her up with my cough.

Thanks strawberry - actually working in events prepared me for motherhood, looking after 400 helpless delegates is very similar.

Yes greenstone, first flight! Straight in with an overnight 7 hours!! I'm going with denial rather than preparation for it.

arc We went for the Maxi Cosi pearl. Complicated but we needed a seat for 3 different cars (mine, DP and CM) that we can get in and out easily so this seemed the best option.

Arkkorox · 16/10/2015 10:54

Woohoo go babyhappy!!!

Crap night here but that's to be expected as it is apparently impossible to have two consecutive good nights Grin

Shall I call my HV? I've not heard a thing since dd was 12 weeks!

ladydolly · 16/10/2015 13:10

ark same here, but I wasn't expecting anything until 12 months.

(I don't even know where the red book is)

OP posts:
haventgotaclue1 · 16/10/2015 19:25

"I don't even know where the red book is" Grin Grin Grin - brilliant ladydolly!!!

Ark we've got the Britax dual fix car seat which can be either forward or backward facing - it's a swivel one as I've got a very dodgy back and am only going to find it increasingly more difficult to lift DD into her seat.

MrsAukerman · 16/10/2015 19:58

Ooh we had a 9m check and assumed it was standard.
We went for the AxKid MiniKid after consulting with www.securatot.co.uk over the phone. It's rear facing to age 4.

omama · 16/10/2015 21:10

hi ladies, mumsnet not working very well on my phone since the app went so I keep falling off the thread!

DD will be 11 months on Monday - where has the time gone?! She finally started crawling last weekend and has 10 (almost 12) teeth already! She's saying a few words - hi, ta, bye, mama, dada & is generally a little ray of sunshine Smile

She had her 6-12 month check with the HV today. DD can't stand yet unless we support her round the waist, so she got a big black mark for gross motor skills. The HV said she will call me in 3 months just to make sure she'd made some progress, but that she wasn't concerned one bit, so I'm not worrying. If you ask me, expecting that of all 10 month olds is bloody ridiculous anyway. They all develop at their own rate.

Anna - my DD is also more or less down to 1 nap. She generally sleeps 9.30/10 - 11.30/12 so usually 1.5-2.5hours. She sometimes looks like she could do with another sleep at 3.30/4 but we're always out on the school run so she never does & I won't put her down that late at home or she doesn't go down at night. I've been trying to shift her nap a bit later as she's getting up fairly early now (5.45-6am) but not managed it yet. Remember this stage as pretty horrendous with DS (early waking & fighting naps) so hoping it won't be so bad this time around!

Car seats - we've not bought new & intend to re-use the maxi cosi tobi seats we had for ds. Am I the only bad one not using ERF? She's too small to go in yet though, still only weighs 18lb 6oz so will prob wait til she's 15 months & bursting out of her infant seat before we put her forward facing. DS weighed that at 5 months! Grin

happypotamus · 17/10/2015 10:51

No repeat of good sleeping. She ended up in our bed at 5am after she had been awake nearly 2hrs.

I forgot to tell you the rest of my HV's advice on how to get Dd to sleep. Apparently, I should give her a potato-based dinner every night. I wonder what the magic sleep-inducing properties of potatoes are Hmm

Yesterday my baby, who had never even pulled herself up until the previous day, waited until I turned round for a moment then climbed the step more than 6inches high into the hall. Our house is a death-trap for babies with the rooms on different levels with a step between them to fall down.

Also, on Wednesday we saw the paediatrician re the CMPI. I told her we had occasionally given DD bits of dairy with no problems, so she said to continue with that. There was a junior doctor there too and the consultant got her to ask us development questions (to test the junior doctor's knowledge rather than because she was concerned about DD's development). She wasn't concerned at all about the poor gross motor skills that DD had failed on that morning.

haventgotaclue1 · 17/10/2015 11:04

So I'm after tips and advice having been lucky enough not to have been in this position before. ...For 2 nights in a row dd has woken up after exactly 5.5 hrs. Both times have tried to resettle her with reassurance / rocking but 15 mins later she's crying out again. In the end we've had her in with us where she's been "playing" around for almost 2 hrs with so much energy it's really not funny at 2am... I've bf her then managed to get her back to sleep in her own bed (2 hrs after she's woken up). Thing is, I don't think she's hungry as she doesn't cry when she comes in with us, she plays! I think when she does feed it could be for comfort or, she's burnt up so much energy over the previous 1.5 hrs she is now hungry!

Anyone else experienced this? Any tips?

happypotamus · 17/10/2015 12:58

Argh, she's found the bottom of the stairs! Time to go out and panic buy more stair gates! I can't do anything. Every time I turn around she has crawled off and is at the bottom of the stairs or somewhere else inappropriate and dangerous. Unfortunately, I desperately need to find DD1's homework then make her sit down and concentrate on it.

ladydolly · 17/10/2015 14:12

We didn't get a rear facing seat because I couldn't find one I could move between cars, this one does rear facing to 15m I think.

Flight was absolutely fine, in fact a woman in the row behind commented on how 'good' dd had been. She moaned a bit at first but was asleep by take off and then slept for 5 hours with one brief wake up. She was laughing and flirting with other passengers for the last hour, then slept in the ergo from customs to taxi and then another 3 hours nap when we checked in. I even managed a couple of glasses of wine and a couple of hours kip myself on the flight. Couldn't have asked for better. We've spent the afternoon in the pool now dp has taken her for a walk while I have a lay down.

haven't We have the same thing, seems to be a developmental thing when she's on the cusp of something new, not much advise other than keep the lights off and stay boring if you can. If uts getting to me I do a mini bedtime routine, change nappy, put on euan, rock in the chair and feed...

OP posts:
haventgotaclue1 · 17/10/2015 19:37

Wow lady that sounds like a dream flight! Grin. Thanks for letting me know it's not just us - think you're onto something re it being a developmental thing as I reckon DD is so close to crawling / pulling herself up on furniture - she seems to be making huge "improvement" every single day...am really hoping it happens soon and it results in her being a good night time sleeper...

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 17/10/2015 23:05

Just been for eve out with friends and home to crying baby been up 45mins husband had tried water cuddles putting in cot n leaving n would only sleep on his shoulder so having feed now guessing sleep training is out at the moment!!

Annarose2014 · 18/10/2015 08:04

havent we're suddenly having the playing thing too. Head wrecking when you hear the little decker GIGGLING! Angry

Annarose2014 · 18/10/2015 09:49

Fecker that was! My phone is trying to make me polite!

haventgotaclue1 · 18/10/2015 19:02

Absolutely Anna - I get that after she's prodded me on the nose / pulled my hair / pushed her fist into my breast etc etc, obviously hilariously funny at 2.30am.... Hmm

omama · 18/10/2015 19:04

Ooh ladydolly gone anywhere nice? Flight sounds like it couldn't have gone any better - yay for babydolly! Have a fab time.

Havent - we're having rough nights atm too, teething is causing night wakings & she's been getting up at 5am the last couple of days. Yesterday she had half hour nap in the morning on the way out for the day, didnt nap again til 5pm and then because of the late nap I couldn't get her down til 8pm. She was still up at 5am again this morning argh! We put her in our bed with the lights off but she just wants to crawl around!
