So, so sorry Anna, that's so very hard.

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 03/10/2015 20:02

Sorry to hear your news Anna

haventgotaclue1 · 03/10/2015 21:35

Oh Anna, really sorry to hear your news Flowers.

Puts my 6.5hour drive back from Cornwall with 3 massive poo-explosions and 3 complete change of clothes and then a 30 minute full-on screaming session before DD fell asleep exhausted, into complete perspective...

Annarose2014 · 03/10/2015 21:38

Thanks all. It was in her sleep so what you would wish for someone. But I only visited her last night with DS and she was fine, laughing at his antics, so we were totally blindsided this morning. Devastated. Horrific. Thought it was a lie but knew it wasn't.

DS was with us the whole time as there's no-one to mind him and he was amazing. But when we brought him into the room he got all excited at seeing his Nana and started waving at her like mad and then was all confused why she wasn't responding. Christ Almighty!

Anyway, don't want to derail. This isn't the place. But its impossible not to share in a place you share so much, iykwim. Might be offline for a while. Thanks for all your good wishes.

ladydolly · 03/10/2015 22:32

Oh anna, my heart goes out to you. Even though she was unwell it must have been such a shock. Big hugs. X

Anna use us to offload as much as you need. We're all here for you. That must have been utterly heart wrenching not being able to explain to DS why nanny couldn't wave back. Xx

Arkkorox · 04/10/2015 07:21

havent three!!! That sounds like journey from hell! Dd was a moaning Minnie yesterday but fair enough cause she's just cut her top front tooth! Bringing us to a grand total of three!

haventgotaclue1 · 04/10/2015 20:14

Yeah, it wasn't the best Ark, and I'm really hoping it's down to teething...she's been producing horrendous nappies for the last few days - but is still eating and drinking ok, temperature is ok and is her normal (fairly) happy self so don't think it can be anything too wrong...

happypotamus · 05/10/2015 08:23

anna so very sorry to hear about your mum. Flowers it's understandable that you will want to be offline for a while, but talk about her here if you want to. Like you say, we have shared a lot here not just about our babies. Thinking of you

happypotamus · 05/10/2015 08:37

I wrote about first birthday plans the other day but the internet crashed and lost it.
We are having a family party, jointly for DD2 and my sister who will be 18 2 days before (it is also my birthday 2 days before DD2 but I am not a cute baby or celebrating a special age). My mum decided we should have this party, I wouldn't have bothered. DD2's birthday is in half-term, so we will go out somewhere but DD1 will probably appreciate it more. We took DD1 to the sealife centre for her first birthday, and she enjoyed it but it is crazily expensive. Now I just need to decide what presents to get her. I only have 19 days while you are talking about putting up Christmas trees etc on your baby's birthday!

happypotamus · 05/10/2015 09:03

I decided to do separate posts about different issues rather than one long one.
I worked 2 night shifts again last week, and my mum stayed the night to be here to take DD1 to school so she witnessed DD2's terrible night's sleep. Her theory is that DD2 wakes up so much because she is hungry. I don't know if this is the case but we can try and solve it. She usually eats 2 good meals but there is often one meal she won't eat much of. She's never really had snacks so I should consider introducing them. What (dairy-free) snacks do you give your baby? She has fruit for pudding after nearly every lunch and dinner so doesn't need more fruit for snacks (or does anyone have any idea what else I can give her for pudding?). Her appetite has increased recently, probably because she is having less milk. My mum reckons she is going through a growth spurt, but, without dairy, isn't getting enough fats. I wish we had been able to see a dietician so I could agree or dispute her ideas.

ladydolly · 05/10/2015 09:33

For 1st birthday (how are we already at the 1st birthday stage?? We just had them??) I’m getting an illustration commissioned – sounds impossibly twee but I wanted something she could keep but not something that is only suitable for babies. So it’ll be a picture of the 3 of us. I also got her a 2nd hand little tykes car at the weekend for £15, she loved the one at baby group and now we have a garden it’ll be nice to have a toy to play with. If you have NCT sales near you I highly recommend volunteering, I did 3 hours of set up and got early access to the sale and I cleaned up! Inch blue shoes for £1, osh kosh jeans with tags for £1 and loads of toys still in their boxes. She’ LOVES the vtech laptop (£1.50) and a few other bigger toys I’ve put away for Xmas (musical keyboard mat, very hungry caterpillar floor puzzle etc). I spent £80 including the little tykes car (£15 but never been used outside) but I easily got £500+ worth of clothes and toys.

Sleepwise she seems to have gone back to 2-3 wake ups per night, I can handle that. The thing is… now she’s sleeping better dp is back in with me but he wakes me up a couple of times a night too, he wants to cuddle every time I get back from feeding, he talks to me in the night, he wobbles the bed when he’s getting in and out – I sound such a cow but it’s really annoying!! I suppose being able to DTD will be an upside!!

Snacks – I also struggle for healthy, non-fruit snacks. She eats a lot of cucumber slices, although they’re not filling! How about some soya yogurt? The alpro plain soya is quite sweet even without the fruit. Crumpets, toast with almond butter (‘good’ fats, protein and carb – should help them sleep), hummus wrap roll ups, rice cakes, you can make little omelettes in a muffin tin and bulk them out with peppers, onions, mushrooms, sweetcorn. We recently gave her malt loaf which she loved.

Ladydolly I am selling at next nct sale slowly sorting the clothes and toys n labelling it all trying to price it cheap so it sells. I have only ever seen crap or over priced stuff left when have been near the end of a sale.

First birthday as mid Nov thought maybe an early evening fireworks party, ds1 an Aug birthday and we had little party on the green at front of our old house only 6 house round the green

Bday present wise ds2 is getting some toot toot bits as one of the few things we haven't already had, will ask family to get a push along ride on thing and a toddler slide ready for next summer.

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 05/10/2015 11:00

Oh happy snacks for dairy free baby are cold pasta twists, cucumber sticks, boiled egg cut into quarters, rice cakes, peanut butter in quarter of a wrap folded so it's flat if that makes sense, bread sticks, organix spicy tomato star crisps, oatcakes, any stoned fruits cut into quarters, pear n Apple.

Strawberryfield12 · 05/10/2015 16:46

happy you are born on the same date with your sister?! Wow, how your parents managed to get that ready?!

DD has been on and off of lots of food and snacks, but organix carrot sticks have never been out of fashion. I am now giving her a package so that she picks them herself instead of giving individual sticks. Every time she first shakes her head as if to say "i'm not picking them!", but eventually she ventures into the packet. Any other organix snacks are fine as well but nowhere near as popular.

haventgotaclue1 · 06/10/2015 14:05

And that's what I love about this mumsnet business: we're all struggling with the same things and can share ideas Grin. I'm another one trying to think up non-fruit snacks....there's only so much nectarine that one 10 month old can should take - she absolutely loves them! So we're currently on apple rice cakes / biscotti / raisin bread has gone down really well as has raisin and cinnamon bagel. I've tried the boiled egg suggestion, but she doesn't like it at all - have tried egg in loads of different forms: hard boiled, scrambled, omelette, eggy bread....all get the "yuck, what on earth are you trying to feed me" look....

I've also cut down BFs to 3 a day now (yesterday she slept through one so only had 2), and she doesn't appear to be missing the 4th one at all. I'm just trying to figure out whether I need to be giving her a snack instead...sometimes I do, sometimes don't...

Anna, if you're reading hope you're ok...

ladydolly · 06/10/2015 16:10

Ok I don't want to be one of those mumsnetters who come here to scare everyone with their 'knowledge' but did anyone see that stuff about avoiding rice? And rice cakes? DD eats LOADS and I'm not sure how I'd substitute them...

OP posts:
ladydolly · 06/10/2015 16:17

haven't when are your bf's? I'm sure dd is losing interest...

DD has a long feed at bedtime which I sometimes top up with formula, then once briefly at around 1am, at 5.30 she has another long feed, again when she wakes up (but that's getting shorter, probably because of the long 5.30 feed) and then one when I get in from work at 5ish which is also getting shorter. During the day at the cm she's down to 1 bottle. I guess I'll just follow her lead as to how much and when she wants it as we move towards the magic 1 year marker.
Dp would like me to stop but I want to keep going, maybe I'll just keep the bedtime and morning feed... (although those are the most inconvenient really!!)

Lady dolly alot baby rice stuff is scare mongering check whether the research is valid.

Got baby some really cute boy leggings with stripes and cute elephant print on bum great on own on cool day and will be good under joggers when really cold like tights.

Had our 10-12mths dev check on Fri all good they will ring in mth to review gross motor skills basically ask me if he is walking or standing yet.

Oh n our first proper word other than da da, ba ba and bahhh (what he calls ds1) is "boo" think we play peek a boo too much.

Nursery has gone better today they said he has been really happy and laughing the lady who only seems him on a Tue said was lovely to see him happy to be there although still cried on drop off so we are in week 5 and getting there.

haventgotaclue1 · 06/10/2015 19:55

Ladydolly at the moment she's having her 1st BF around 6.30am, or whenever she's woken up; 2nd one around 1.30ish; 3rd one at 6pm before bath time. She's just over 10 months and I was finding that she was getting pretty dis-interested with 4 feeds... My hope is that when she starts nursery (beginning of Nov) she'll be down to 2 feeds a day (1st thing after waking up and before bedtime) and by the time I go back to work (beginning of Dec when she'll be a year old), I'll either stop completely or go down to one feed, before bedtime.

Oh, and I haven't heard about this rice thing....how can that be?! Everyone says to start weaning with baby rice???!!! Oh well, maybe next week it'll be something else...

Strawberryfield12 · 06/10/2015 20:51

What is it about rice? Never heard anything.

Morning! One quick wake up and a 0515 start. Can't complain. Operation night cold turkey appears a success.

ladydolly · 07/10/2015 08:56

Great news MrsA! How do you feel?

We had a weird wake up at 10ish where I fed her then DP gave her a 5oz bottle which she necked. Then at 3 she was up for about and hour, I just bf her but she was coughing lots every time I put her down. Finally had to wake her up at 7.10 this morning! So really, only 1 x 1 hr wake up which I can totally handle compared to the hourly wakes up we were suffering only a week ago! (I'll get some sleep now to prepare for the next sleep regression in 8 months...)

I got home from a crazy day at work at 9.30 last night, and DH had only just got DD to sleep. Well, he had got her to sleep repeatedly but she had woke back up screaming every time he put her in the cot. My work with coming home late at night and working night shifts isn't doing anyone in my family much good. Now DD has another horrible cough and cold. She coughed and cried in her sleep for hours last night. I kept getting up to see about the crying but she was asleep. I am at work all night tonight and DH isn't expecting to get much sleep :(

Apparently, she ate well at nursery yesterday, breakfast, lunch, snacks and snacky tea, then had almost a whole omelette and a banana at home, and had most of a large bottle of milk at bedtime, so definitely wasn't hungry last night. Thanks for the snack ideas. I do sometimes get the baby rice cakes for her so will try those more often and she does like organix 'crisps' which I haven't bought recently. She usually likes boiled eggs, but doesn't really bother with toast at home (eats it at nursery and baby group though). Will try some of the other ideas.
Another theory is that, because of the number of night shifts I have done, my milk supply has reduced and I no longer have as much milk as she would like and was used to overnight on the nights I am home. That would explain why I feed her and she still wakes up crying for more milk soon after. I don't know how likely that theory is, and it didn't seem to be a problem with DD1 but then she didn't feed all night by the time I went back to work. I don't really know though. I half consider the need for proper sleep-training for all our sakes, but they say not to start that when the baby is teething or ill, but she always seems to be teething or have a cold or cough or something.
Only 2.5 weeks until half-term when I have a week off work, and don't have to be rushing to get DD1 ready for school every morning. We won't necessarily get more sleep, because DD2 will still wake up early in the morning and all through the night, but hopefully the days will be more relaxing.
