Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

(Sorry wil, maybe don't read this one...)

You're not going to believe this, but E just woke up for her first night feed and as I was picking her up I saw a massive spider on the bedroom floor. Had to get dh to feed E while I dealt with it. It was so big and so fast I couldn't squish it or get a glass over it. In desperation, I emptied the bin onto the floor and whacked that over it. I've put a heavy book and a boot on top of it. I can't get out right? Urrrggghhh, I can see it from the bed. I'm normally OK with spiders but that is no normal spider. I think it's on steroids.

minimooo · 25/08/2015 23:11

I dunno, I was wondering if it was a sign of teething dulcet. Or maybe a sign that she's gearing up for solids? I'm not sure. I'm getting her weighed tomorrow so might ask the hv.

That sounds relentless dulcet, you poor thing, you must be frazzled. I'm sorry I can't give any advice, I don't really know enough about breastfeeding. I think I read somewhere that it's extremely rare to not produce enough milk, so I'm sure you're fine on that front. Maybe he's just a hungry boy? Or perhaps a growth spurt? Or maybe he's suckling for comfort? Hopefully one of the others will be along in a mo with more helpful advice than I can offer!

Pisghetti · 26/08/2015 00:50

B licks or chews on anything that comes within reach. We've started referring to it as marking her territory. She's been doing it for a little while but no teeth yet and we're not at weaning age yet.

Both children sleep with their eyes open a little. I don't though so not sure where it comes from Confused

Does he take a dummy Dulcet? If being out of the house distracts him enough to stop it then it probably isn't hunger as a hungry baby often can't be distracted for long. Is he in a pram or a sling when you go out? If the pram, is he tilted or flat? Have you tried white noise in the house to settle him?

DulcetMoans · 26/08/2015 01:38

Shouldn't have mentioned the 5hrs out loud - just had 2hrs when the first sleep time is normally more like 3-4hrs now. Jinxed it!

I know they like to explore stuff with their mouths when teething mini, but not sure about licking. Guess you can't see anything in there?

Is the spider still there mini?!

I think it isn't hunger and I try and stretch out the feeds to distract him but he really looks for it. He does take a dummy but it doesn't fool him long when he's after food. Dummy works well when we are out but not so well at home. Not tried white noise pis but will as the Hoover shut him up earlier for a bit. He's in a pram when out that is flat, how does tilted help?

ZylaB · 26/08/2015 05:21

popz if they were all on one side it'd only be able to go in circles! 2 on each side... (Sorry wil)

WilHarlot · 26/08/2015 06:15

Shock Shock Shock stop it!!!! Envy

I think the licking thing is just an exploring thing. Their tongues/mouths are very sensitive.

I agree it's unlikely, although not impossible, that you're not producing enough milk Dulcet. Is he any better if you put him in the sling round the house? You have a bf group you could ask at?

My body failed me and woke me up at 5.30 when both children were still asleep. But then the baby woke at 6 and woke the toddler. I wish we could have kept her in a cot forever so she couldn't get up heself.

ZylaB · 26/08/2015 07:26

wil can you put a bed guard on her bed?

Minion · 26/08/2015 07:28

Fuuucccckkkkiiiinnnnnnnnggggggggg sssslllllllleeeeeeeeeeepppppppppppp

That, dear readers is the end product of a 12, 2, 3, 4;30-now wake time.

WilHarlot · 26/08/2015 07:53

Oh dear.

Zyla She'd just scoot round it.

Mm baby fast asleep in my bed but I need to get up. What to do...

ZylaB · 26/08/2015 08:03

Poor min Brew

wil LOTS of bedguards? ;)

On major countdown for holidays...19 days to go. It'll be great, mrZ and both our mums are coming, so I'll be able to hand her over for someone else to have, we can share having her on our knees when she's had enough in the high hair at meal time, and I can still insist on having her for a snuggly feed when I want her. Can't wait! The only problem is, looking forward to it so much is making the days draaaaaag. I need a break.

RPopz · 26/08/2015 10:15

MiniP puts everything in his mouth! Or tries to shuffle himself so he can bite the edge of things... He's been doing it since about 12 weeks. It's just how they explore the world I think.

Just echoing the other's sentiments Dulce - it's really unlikely that you don't have enough milk for him. How old is he now? Growth spurt? Clusterfeeding lasts a good while unfortunately. Plus babies are a lot like adults - I think they eat all day at home because it's just there, they can smell it and they can - boredom maybe? Like, even if you've just had a big tea, you smell toast you want toast, right? Minipopz still does it now! He can go hours without boob if we're out but at home he's "hungry" every hour. Glad you got a big sleep at least!

RPopz · 26/08/2015 10:16

zy - That's why I was laughing at your lopsided spider! Grin (sorry wil)

Indigoblue2 · 26/08/2015 10:21

Speak for yourself popz - what's to say the rest of us aren't that greedy?? GrinGrin shuffles off to make toast and lather it in butter

ZylaB · 26/08/2015 10:46

Oh god I want toast now! I've had 4 slices of bread in over a month..... :(. (And I want kfc, but have lost 11lbs in 4 weeks so should stick to it I suppose!)

WilHarlot · 26/08/2015 11:24

You're doing amazingly Zyla!

Hi Indigo, welcome to the Grad Grads! (Maybe you've already posted here and I've forgotten).

Pisghetti · 26/08/2015 11:44

Just speculating on what might be different about out vs in Dulcet Smile white noise is worth a go. B isn't fussed on Ewan but loves a freebie app Hmm

Hi indigo

Mmmm toast.... Lost 3lb last week and have another 24 to go so no buttery toast for me Sad

Pisghetti · 26/08/2015 11:45

Meant to add well done Zyla!

ZylaB · 26/08/2015 12:17

pis 3lb is great for a week! Yay you. I've got another 3st 4lb to go :/

minimooo · 26/08/2015 12:42

Wow, well done on the weight loss pis and zyla! I still can't fit into my pre pg jeans Sad Doing loads of walking to try and shift the flabby bit above my cs incision and desperately trying not to think that it might never go away

Thanks for reassurance on the licking. I'll put it down to exploration.

She was weighed today and she's almost tripled her birth weight! That explains why my back and shoulders ache so much from carrying her around.

Ginormous spider is still under the bin in our room. It looks even more terrifying in daylight. I'm going to have to hoover him Sad I feel bad, but it's so so fast that there's no way I'm going to be able to catch him and put him outside.

Hi indigo!

Oh min that sounds horrendous. Hopefully she'll nap at some point today so you can have a rest.

Made my very first mum friend today, yay!

WilHarlot · 26/08/2015 12:50

You'll get there zyla, full of admiration for you.

Yey for mum friends - they do come in handy.

Does constantly rubbing eyes/face mean anything in babyworld other than tiredness? She's at it all the time and keeps scratching herself.

Minion · 26/08/2015 12:52

In ours it is her teeth itching wil, looks like she's rubbing eyes but it's top lip areas

minimooo · 26/08/2015 12:56

I mean obviously you guys are my first mum friends Grin
She's the first face-to-face one!

SnapdragonAzZ09 · 26/08/2015 13:41

Hi Indigo!

Dulcet could it be the movement of the pram lulling him to sleep? And the extra stimulation of fresh air and sunlight tiring him out? I've been told that very small babies can only concentrate on one thing at a time so lots of external stimuli makes them shut down. MiniSnap usually falls asleep within minutes of going outside.

Wil not sure about rubbing eyes other than tiredness. Over stimulation maybe?

Indigoblue2 · 26/08/2015 15:37

Waves! Hi guys Smile I don't think I posted before? But maybe I did, the last few days are somewhat of a blur Wink

LaLaLaaaa · 26/08/2015 16:15

Hi viroids!

This is me only just getting a chance to post today. MiniLa decided today that sleep was just not his thing. He's tired, he's not grouchy or anything, but just won't sleep. Just lies there in sleepyhead with eyes open. I've ended up leaving him to self settle, sticking dummy in and walking away - it seems to be working as his eyes have now closed but I am watching carefully as at any minute that dummy's going to come out and he might wake up again. How can a four week old child be this awake? I've tried him self-settling a few times and he seems to do it OK if the dummy is in.

OK - so I will finally get to catch up:

fleur how is your boob? Mine are getting pretty engorged because I'm now block feeding to try to sort the over-supply issue and also stop the green diarrhoea looking nappies.

min is mini any better?

cookie thank you for the room temp/clothing guide! I've just been putting him in a sleepsuit/baby grow (one with feet and long arms) and a cellular blanket. I tried him with the short sleeved vest and 1 tog bag at 23 degrees and he was sweating buckets. Strange baby.

mini when did you start giving E toys? I've not given B anything yet because he seems to not realilse that it's there if I hold it up. I do play with him on his mat and he likes the dangly animals. There are a lot of cuddly toys in his nursery eager to meet him but I haven't wanted to put any of them in his crib yet as he's too little. Hooray for mum friends! I love my fit mummy lot, they are my lifeline. Im' struggling a bit with the NCT lot. I'm kind of keeping in touch with them out of politeness, but it'll not be long until I just don't bother I reckon. oNe of them is lovely but the others are just a bit young and not really 'me'. (translated as - I'm a radge and they are all quite polite/don't swear/religious etc.)

Stop killing spiders you evil lot! They are good - they eat the flies in your house. And a four-legged spider!?! You should have kept it and put it in a show, people would pay good money to see that! ;)

RE: sore bums - I've been using metanium but its still a red bum with little sore patches. He poos and wees so much we just can't keep up with it! Sometimes once an hour. I guess we just keep whacking on the metanium and giving him no nappy time.

I no longer thing B has reflux or colic or anything else sinister, other than just normal old baby wind. Now that we've got the hang of winding it seems he's fine as long as he gets burped. If I get the burp up then he seems pretty contented. If I don't get the burp up then he is uncomfortable, wiggles around and squirms and cries. The 5am groaning and writhing in pain is still happening but I think it's normal infant bowel movement stuff. I put him on his belly on my chest and he goes straight off to sleep. I read it's because they are too young to relax sphincter muscle at same time as straining to push poo out, so it's all a big drama. I am still giving him infacol though as he's very difficult to wind and it seems to help, and we are doing all the massage techniques and leg bicycling (thank you mini for the pictures - we've been using them!).

We've also worked out that the problem has been us not spotting when he's tired and just needs to be put down. I kept still responding to his 'food' cues and trying to feed a tired grumpy baby who then got stressed, wouldn't latch on and screamed. Now Ive started just putting him down it seems to be making both of us much less stressed! (until the next thing comes along - I've long realised that there are many hurdles in this parenting thing!)

Yesterday we worked really hard spotting when he was tired and just needed to be put down, and also trying to do the EASY method. We had a brilliant day! He hardly cried at all all day and slept well. But today - not so good at the sleeping bit.

We are still going to see osteopath tomorrow to see if there is anything from the birth that needs to be corrected. I'm excited about it! I find it really interesting.

He's a difficult baby to get to sleep during the day. He is pretty good at night, we keep everything quiet and dark. But last night when he was a bit overtired it ended up with me holding his arms and closing his eyelids and dh simulatanously holding dummy in and phone to his ear playing white noise. It looked very cruel but remarkably it worked really quickly!

dulcet I very much doubt you're not producing enough - it's probably a growth spurt plus smelling the milk on you. I have to use a dummy when I'm on my own with B. He is just so food orientated so if i pick him up to rock him he starts doing food cues and staring at my boobs and just won't sleep - that's what's happened today. If dh is not here then I've started putting dummy in and walking away. He seems to fall asleep by himself if I do that. They will make food cues even when tired - it's likely J is tired but just doing the food cues anyway out of habit/greediness. If you take away the need to suckle with the dummy he should settle. Also white noise app is amazing! I have it full blast net to B's head.

Does anyone combination feed here? I'm looking to start giving him bottle of formula at night as he's such a massively guzzly hungry baby and I want to fill him up at night. I'll still bf too, but just top him up with the formula. Also when would you start expecting them to sleep a bit longer at night? Longest B has gone was 4 hours but its usually 3 hours between feeds, sometimes a bit less. Last night was 10pm, 1am, 4am, 6:30 which is pretty standard. Then after 6:30 he's just awake and that's when he is difficut to get to sleep until the afternoon.

B has started smiling and I had my first laugh today :D it was gorgeous. It's a bit unnerving though, as he smiles at my boobs! They get much more smiles than me, it's as if he's greeting an old friend. Anyone else have a child who smiles at the boob?

Oh god and I put him in the sling today and he threw up in it! All down himself, me and the sling - yuck! I had to pull a stinking child out and bung both our clothes and sling in the wash!

Hi indigo! How are you?

This was long. Sorry guys! (he's still asleep - shhhhh...)
