16 months is young
My dd was trained at 18 and ds1 at 20 but have been more 'chilled' shall we say (lazy!) with subsequent babies!

NotAnOtter · 23/11/2006 20:52

Did read in 'junior' magasine that in the 1970's - the average age of a child being dry was 18 months - now it is 36 months!

mustrunmore · 23/11/2006 20:54

'I understand it can often take several attempts over a fair few days for an exclusively bf baby to get the hang of things on a bottle... '

This wins my prize for understatement of the week If you knew the trauma and the expense of trying 100 different bottles...
Ah, you sweetie!

mustrunmore · 23/11/2006 20:55

Oh, and MIL thinks you're a bad parent if you're not 'holding them out over a newspaper every time you take their nappy off from 3 months' WTF???

CantSleepWontSleep · 23/11/2006 20:58

hub - it took 15 weeks of constant screaming, no sleep (that's when I changed my name!) and horrendous nappy rash to work out she was milk intolerant - poor wee mite indeed.

Please don't tell me the sleeping through won't last - it's only been happening a few weeks, and then only when she's not teething etc.

Was last Sat her first attempt at a cup (we're bypassing bottles altogether now - they are so passe )? Err no, we've been trying intermittently since she was about 12 weeks old . She's a stubborn mule - not sure where she gets that from .

hub2dee · 23/11/2006 20:59

mrm - Did you try a Dr Browns then ? At least he wouldn't be sucking on a vacuum !

CantSleepWontSleep · 23/11/2006 21:00

hmm - looks like we had similar reactions to hub's bottle remark then mrm!

OP posts:
CantSleepWontSleep · 23/11/2006 21:01

I tried Dr Browns - she wouldn't even put it in her mouth.

mustrunmore · 23/11/2006 21:02

Talking of inherited traits... ds1 was great in the jewellery place today, before the poo incident...
'do you like this one mummy?'
'I dont like that one mummy, you need something a bit shinier'
'this one is a nice colour, you like purple, dont you?'
'Is this one too long, or is it ok for your tops mummy?'
'Do you like it mummy? Well, lets buy it then'
'Can I have a hair clip mummy?'

It was a great place too; all jewels £1!!

hub2dee · 23/11/2006 21:03
  • the milk intolerance can be hard to pinpoint. Sorry it took so long.

We had angel sleeper until TEETH and THE PASSAGE OF TIME AND RANDOM EVENTS kicked in.

at trying for MONTHS to get babbas to take bottles !!! Blimey.

3k · 23/11/2006 21:03

Oooo, Oooooo we have a man mumsnetter!!! That's so cool!!! We can get "daddy's" views too. Hub you have to stay!! 9

MRM - PMSL at your poo and pee incidents today and could actually visualise you walking round the house with antibac attached to your belt!! Bet I wont be laughing when DS gets to potty training though

hub2dee · 23/11/2006 21:05

csws - but wouldn't it have been the case that at that moment she wouldn't have taken any teat IYSWIM (esp. as she wouldn't even contemplate sucking it IYSWIM)...

3k · 23/11/2006 21:06

MRM - my MIl covers the floor with plastic sheeting and the changing mat with DS's nappy comes off!!! They are very house proud!!!!

CantSleepWontSleep · 23/11/2006 21:06

3k - I'll repeat my statement from the other day - you need to MN more!!
hub isn't the only male mumsnetter you know (though obviously he's the best ).

OP posts:
hub2dee · 23/11/2006 21:07

I can't stay - you all talk too much and type too fast and I'd get nothing done. Anyway, I have my own antenatal thread, LOL.

mustrunmore · 23/11/2006 21:08

Yeah, right 3k! You wont be laughing when its your turn to get poo out of the spiral binding on a Leap pad book!

Hub; we've settle on Nuk bottles, thanks to Amiable's suggestion (and her actually brining one round!) They were the best of a rejected bunch, but he'll take it if he's hungryenough now. The only downside is that he likes to squeeze the teat (gives you an idea of why I'm cutting down the bf!!), and the milk squirts out of the bottle quite forcefully into his face!Am also thinknig its time to wind down daytime bf, as its getting way too cold to get your bits out in the park, and I'll then be forced into spending too much money on coffee just to get a warm place to feed!

CantSleepWontSleep · 23/11/2006 21:08

Ah no hub - the TT 'closer to nature' and the nuk teats had already made it past her lips by then, and poss the MAM too, but not sure if that came before or after - I've lost track somewhere along the way - you do when you turn your house into a bottle (and now cup) factory.

OP posts:
hotmama · 23/11/2006 21:09

Don't even start me on getting a bf baby to take a bottle. I thought I had cracked it with the Tommy Tippee Closer to Nature ones - but now dd2 just rolls the teat in her mouth and smiles! .

DD2 only very occasionally has a bottle anyway so I don't think I am going to bother to persevere. She is fine with water in a sippy cup so I am hoping she will be fine with taking milk in one.

Dd2 messes about with feeding in the day anyway - so is practically down to first/last thing (although I do try to feed her in the afternoon and sometimes the morning - but generally isn't bothered).

So when I go back to work I will just feed her am/pm and she can have cows milk or water during the day!

Can't believe that I am still bf a nearly 10 month old - just wanted to get to 6 months - but now it is so easy and less time consuming - esp when dd1 is around!

3k · 23/11/2006 21:09

There are MORE men on here????????? Blimey, I do need to get on here more often. I only know of Hub and Mr CSWS (who hasnt made an appearance for a while you know!)

Oh Hub - you have to stay now!!! We are a friendly bunch you know.

mustrunmore · 23/11/2006 21:10

Hub, you just need to type faster and have less of a RL ^Do stay on here, its nice to have you!

CantSleepWontSleep · 23/11/2006 21:12

3k - they even have a mens room topic these days you know!

at those of you managing to reduce breastfeeding. I started a thread on this earlier, here .

OP posts:
hotmama · 23/11/2006 21:12

Mustrunmore - why do they do the sqeezing nipple thing! My dd2 tries to do this as well - hence she is having very few daytime feeds. Dd2 would rather just look around the room than feed or try to twang my nipple - NOT! [why icon]

mustrunmore · 23/11/2006 21:13

Hotmama; I bf ds1 for 3 weeks, so this is a miracle for me

Closer to nature were nothing like nature for ds2.

As a rule, I've only ever had male friends, so its very nice that there are a few on here, but girls aren't that bad either Have even met a few mums that are worth seeing without the kids!!
Maybe i'm happy with the male quota now i've got my little family back together ; dh and lodger! (who I apparently must not shorten to dl for fear for misinterpretation!)

hotmama · 23/11/2006 21:14

Bloody hell CSWS - how do you cope with 10 feeds a day! I feel like I am forcing my norks on dd2. [sympathy icon]

mustrunmore · 23/11/2006 21:15

Ah yes Hotmama, the staring-round-whilst-leaving-your-nipples-exposed-for-the-world-to-see-scenario

csws; mens room threads are very dull. Its all technical with a bit of golf and tits isnt it?
