Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
hub2dee · 23/11/2006 17:48

Hmmm re: CRB. Have you had anything processed recently ? It seems all highly computerised now... maybe it's a lot better ???

I know most angencies just want snapshots and then if they like the look of the child they'll get them in for some proper shots, but I'd be happy to do a few for you. I hope you have a big box. Is second class OK for the return ? You don't want them back too promptly do you ?

CantSleepWontSleep · 23/11/2006 18:12

No hub, no CRB necessary for me.

Oh and dd is quite used to the syringe - she has gaviscon from it 3 times a day, and most of the time is happy to take it. I just think she switches off all logic when in pain in the middle of the night.

OP posts:
TicTac · 23/11/2006 18:18

Oh bless her csws. Does she have reflux?

FrivolentDemon · 23/11/2006 18:20

God no - send em by sea if you want!

Last CRB was about 18 months ago (when all the paperwork got "misplaced" - copies of my passport etc ... still not got round to doing it since . SS are gonna get very stroppy with me soon...

hub2dee · 23/11/2006 18:45

Thank you csws. I googled all this a few weeks ago and have been looking again tonight, and as an individual it appears to be v. v. hard to get one of these done - even WITH the CRB Umbrella clearing houses ! V. strange. If you're getting a nanny / au-pair only an agency can check etc. all seems fairly bl00dy daft IMHO. Something different though is a £10 police check where you can make a rquest for any info they hold on you (takes 6 weeks) so that be useful.

Sounds crap re: your lost documents, Demon. Blimey. I presume they were all recorded delivery but the post office messed up ?

csws - is your baby bf ? I take it me banging on about Dr. Browns bottles wouldn't be any use to you ? Did you get that separate pic I e-mailed ? Did you think it was any good or too stylised ?

FrivolentDemon · 23/11/2006 18:55

Social worker took em and lost them somewhere in the office!!!!!!!!!

mustrunmore · 23/11/2006 19:07

csws would prob adore it if dd would take a dr brown bottle... or any bottle properly...[ grin]

Yep, Hub, got the cd, and I loveit Thanks a million! BTW, friend going on about trusting strangers etc did at one point say she should have come and got some done. Double standards, eh?

I thought the new name was Frizbe too...

Well, what a day here. Went to meet up with a friend in Walthamstow for pizza, play area, and market. ds1 excelled himself; did a poo in a jewellery shop (but was suitably repentant; said he had come to tell me he needed one, but it was too late). It was over every bit of his clothing; stripped him in the street, wiped him down, and carted him off to Peacocks to buy new gear. half an hour later, he did a wee in New look, in his new trackie bottoms, so had to go and buy more; Adams had 25%off , so they weere actually cheaper than Peacocks, and better quality. So spent £7.75 on uneccesssary clothes for him today . Now my sink is clogged with poo, as I didnt realise how much solid stuff was in the trousers when I rinsed them before washing Sorry if TMI!
At least he ate some pasta and salad in pizza hut. But friend did give him a huge bowl of that shitty ice cream. Have a deep suspicion that it was to blame for the subsequent goings on, although it was a bit quick to go into his system.

Oh, and he fell in love with the pizza hut carpet, and now wants one for our front room!

Frizbe · 23/11/2006 19:32

Flame! I thought someone had logged on as me talk about confusing
Just a quick one as off to Gym gotta loose some weight......
MRM may I recommend the tommee tippee porta potty for those emergency moments? has saved dd1's undies a time or two.....
Jas, lol you cooker fiend
Hi CSWS n hello Hub, hadn't realised you lurked on here
Hi to everyone else as well, will try n catch you all later or tomorrow am, then off away for dirty weekend, hahahahahah, no kids!! or pox!!!!
(what's the betting I wake up covered in spots tomorrow)

FrivolentDemon · 23/11/2006 19:32

Argh MRM

Sorry for the name change confusion... I am actually really liking the change for some reason - I think it was needed.

mustrunmore · 23/11/2006 19:37

We have the tommee tippee potty; it was in the buggy, with me, at the other end of the shop. ds1 reckons he told me he needed to go, and I have my doubts, but then again he usually says it in a quiet voice regardless of where I am. But with the consistency of that one, I dont think I'd have got it out in time anyway! And I have a suspicion the wee one was just his laziness.

hub2dee · 23/11/2006 19:42

Frizbe - I don't lurk on any threads (almost always post IYSWIM), but mrm stuck my name in and then csws was gossiping about whether my pictures were wonderful or total crud so I thought I'd pop in and say hi, LOL.

LOL @ mrm's: "csws would prob adore it if dd would take a dr brown bottle... or any bottle properly" I see (I take it you've tried dh, csws ? I understand it can be easier than mum sometimes cos you laydees smell so sweet 'n all).

mrm - In the potty world, I take it that your model is the one to get, right ? dw just rocked up with a boots plastic pink thing that seems v. light and flimsy and easily overturned and I wondered if there were travel potties with disposable liners etc. etc. etc.

mustrunmore · 23/11/2006 19:50

Hello! Yep, the tommee tippee is great. A bit too pricey, but I randomly found one half price in Boots (where they put the end of line stock, but it isnt end of line at all), so it was £3.87. It folds down flat, so you can just sling it under the buggy. TBH, we didnt use it too much, only for poos in the few weeks after training, as wees can go down a gutter... the liners are flippin' expensive for what they are! They're like nappy sacks with an absorbant liner ,but of course just a bit bigger than a nappy sack so you cant substitute. Shame, as my Dad gets our nappy sacks free for us! For home, I'd highly recommend the one with high sides and a bit you take out to empty; ds1 much prefered this to the low one (we had one upstairs one down), and its a bit more dignified (if thats the right word to use regarding weeing in a plastic tub?!), as the child doesn't have to be low to the ground with knees all curled up.

And yep, poor old csws will never get Pippa off her! I'm only highlighting that because my competitive streak is secretly pleased that Bram took a bottle first did take him 9 months though.

mustrunmore · 23/11/2006 19:57

like this one Hub

mustrunmore · 23/11/2006 19:58

Woah! I've done 2 links in as many days without doing them wrong! Am a technical genius now

hub2dee · 23/11/2006 20:15

You do know you can click preview and see if your link works, LOL !

Thanks for the potty info. It is a Whole New World for me.

mustrunmore · 23/11/2006 20:21

Ah, but where's the risk in that? I like to live life on the edge I even had one alcoholic drink at the meet up on Saturday.

Poo will soon be the centre of your world, not just a whole new one. You will plan all outings according to the proximity of toilets, you will buy a bigger bag to keep all the spare clothes in, you will get excited by the vast range of stickers available to put on charts, you will be fixed to the spot when you think a poo is overdue, hovering in the background with the potty, and you will walk round the house with a spray gun of antibac permanently hanging off your belt loop in a jaunty fashion.

NotAnOtter · 23/11/2006 20:23

i dont rate that travel potty ...we had it and i prefer to lug the mamas and papas one...
Ahhhh nappies ! How old is DD hub ?

hotmama · 23/11/2006 20:29

Evening girls - dp is out so I have two sleeping dd's and have settled down with a glass of red wine and mumsnet!

Ah - pottytraining - just started this with dd1 (was 2 in Oct) taking a very relaxed approach but she is being a bit of a star with poohs in the potty - wees can be a bit hit and miss (literally ).

How is everybody?

I have done my email to work about returning from maternity leave - and have cheered up a bit.

hub2dee · 23/11/2006 20:30

16 months. (when does one typically start toilet training ? I'm only asking because I can usually tell when a poo is brewing as she has her poo face - not sure I'd catch the gift in time IYSWIM, but I thought it would still be good to start having it around for the assoication etc.)

I see there is competition on the 'potty to end all potties' front. I best start a thread.

CantSleepWontSleep · 23/11/2006 20:35

TicTac - yes, she has silent reflux to go with her milk intolerance (which answers one of your questions too hub).

I loved the other pic hub - not too stylised at all. Looks like something from the 30s! Do you have to pick colour/sepier/b&w before you take the shot, or is it all done with jiggery pokery on your wonderful mac?

Think mrm has answered the rest of your questions for me (but I'd like to remind her that Bram may take a bottle, but he still doesn't sleep through ). Yes have tried dh - result was that she went to bed without milk on Saturday whilst I was at the meet up!

OP posts:
mustrunmore · 23/11/2006 20:38

Ah, but maybe he doesnt sleep through because of our ghosters a feasible excuse! Am going to reduce the strength of his night bottle in an attempt to put him off waking for it! Sorry I answered your questions

Hello hotmama

mustrunmore · 23/11/2006 20:40

16 months is very young Hub. I wouldn't worry too much yet! I can see ds2 doing a poo, doesnt mean I'm going to potty train him

csws; when I do I get to see your pics then?

hub2dee · 23/11/2006 20:44

I hope it didn't take the docs / HVs too long to figure out she had a milk intolerance... poor wee thing.

Re: Pics I can shoot in B&W or with a colour filter, but it's just as easy to shoot in colour and then change the colour settings with a click afterwards IYSWIM.

I'd go for the sleeping-through-the-night instead of a bottle, I must admit, mrm !!!!! (but csws - I'll bet £50 it doesn't last ) - Was last Sat her first bottle though ? I understand it can often take several attempts over a fair few days for an exclusively bf baby to get the hang of things on a bottle...

hotmama · 23/11/2006 20:46

In the couple of books I have read on pottytraining, 'they' say that lo's don't have sphincter control until at least 18 months - you may catch a wee or a poo but they can't control it. Apparently, those in 'real' nappies are often pottytrained earlier because they feel the 'wetness' etc not so with disposables.

DD1 has been showing me the 'signs' since the summer - but I have been living in denial I think the longer you leave it the less messy it is?

hub2dee · 23/11/2006 20:48

Yeah, I didn't think it was quite time for potties... but it's nice to stay one step ahead ! And I do think having an object 'around' can help it become integrated into their psychology IYSWIM. When dd was cutting teeth for example, we'd have the toothbrush 'around' weeks (possibly months ?) Before we actually used it IYSWIM...

Blimey, hanging around you lot takes me back...
