Our babies are nearly half a year! Where on earth has the time gone?

We haven't had the crying when someone else holds him mainly because he hasn't really been held by anyone else! He cries with dh sometimes and holds him arms out for me i suppose so a bit of separation anxiety setting in maybe.

He had puréed carrot for first time yesterday and couldn't get enough of it. He cried when it finished.

How many hours day time sleep do your babies get? It's supposed to be 3 hours but it is impossible to get Ds to sleep that much. He's getting no more than 2.5 hours over 3 naps and the last few days have been a real struggle to get him to settle. Bedtime has become difficult too. He used to self settle....not anymore.

Last night we went to bed at 9pm and he woke screaming at 10.30 so I had to feed him then again at 2.30. Maybe the carrot upset his tummy or something. Who knows!!!

Dh is so knackered at the moment he slept walked the other night and woke up in the bathroom really confused as to what he was doing there. He said it knocked his whole day off and couldn't function properly at work. That's pure exhaustion when you sleep walk. I do feel for the dads having to work on top of sleep deprivation.

jobrum · 15/06/2015 15:16

Little, my dd has never been into naps but up until last week she was having perhaps 20 mins around 10am, a bit more than half a hour in the afternoon and then the same around 5pm with bed between 7.30-8.00. Now she's not napping, is continually waking after being put to bed and during the night. My extensive early hours research has pointed to a growth and large development spurt around 19 weeks which can unsettle everything.

We desperately need to move her out the Moses basket and into the cot (won't fit in our room) but we need to get a chair for her room. She fills the basket and cannot stretch her legs out fully now. I also think she's getting warm I such a snug space so might try a long sleeve vest under her gro bag tonight.

September60b · 15/06/2015 17:44

Naps are really variable. Sometimes she'll sleep for 2 hours (only ever on me) but most likely she will nap for between 30 mins to 1hr. She wakes the minute I put her down regardless of how long I leave it!

Pesto11 · 15/06/2015 20:26

Naps for 15 mins at 11, 1, 4, 6 and asleep in her cot by 9

But all a bit random during the night at the moment. I had that one night of 7 hours straight and back to feeding every 3 hours again now!
I'm so tired!

Dd is in a bigger gro bag now and I have to get her legs out when she wakes up at 5 cz she's boiling!

Dec1314mummy · 15/06/2015 21:30

Wow everyone else's days sound like mine! Muddling through trying to guess what she wants next!
Dd only naps for 30 mins if that each time and has 3 a day. She has a bath at 6.30 then bottle and bed. She likes a cuddle and won't self settle and then is up a few times in the night. She starts her day anywhere between 5 and 6.15 which is exhausting me. She won't last any longer than 6.30 at night for her bath, it just ends up in a screaming fit! She feeds really randomly throughout the day. It can be anywhere from 1 hour to 4 hour gaps and anything from 1 to 5 oz. she's a right chunker though so is gaining fine.
She screams when you go out of her view and will go to someone for a couple of minutes and then dcrrM blue murder until I cuddle her! She then smiles a lot as if to say 'ha ha I've got mummy now!'. So cute! She's really funny too as she shouts at the top of her voice, more of a screech, and it can go on for literally an hour at a time! Ds got annoyed with the noise earlier and his teddies that made noise turn off at the foot, so he ran over and started squeezing her foot and shouting 'off off' (one of very few words he has). Made me chuckle!

Pesto11 · 15/06/2015 22:35

Haha that's so funny that he was trying to switch off her noise button!!! Love that!

Dd is squealing like mad too
At first I was worried that something was wrong but today she had a loud squealing conversation with the ceiling for an hour!
Keep yourself busy love- you just chat away!

September60b · 15/06/2015 23:05

That's so funny dec!

So we came to bed at 10.30 and dd has just woken up for the first time already. Don't even get a 3 hour stretch anymore, it's so exhausting!

bigfam · 16/06/2015 05:27

Baby went down last night at 7pm, and have just woken for a quick feed and now sleeping again. I can't even have a giggle at her separation anxiety because it's so bad, she won't even go with dh. If anyone touches her she gets so worked up she stops breathing, yesterday she was in her jumperoo and was getting a bit annoyed so the oh decided to give her a cuddle- huge mistake Shock

She started babbling properly, full on 'babababa' Its adorable, and when Patsy gets into a mood and screams (bad temper that one) the baby looks at her, gets absolutely furious and scrunches up her face and screeches at her. I was crying with laughter the other day!
I can't say I'd like Apple and pear custard, she likes baby rice and she loved mushy peas with gravy when we have a Sunday roast. My personal favourite is farleys rusks with milk warmed and mushed up Smile

LittlePink · 16/06/2015 14:14

So Ds has been diagnosed with asthma now. Whatever next. He's got a dreadful chest and sounds wheezy and like a kettle boiling on a stove. It started on Saturday when I said to dh I need to take him to the Dr and he said what are they going to tell you? That he's got a virus. I said you're not a doctor how can you just say it's a virus. I should have listened to my gut instinct and I'm angry with myself for not being stronger when my instincts told me he wasn't right. It's got progressively worse and he's got antibiotics and inhalers. He's happy in himself and no temp but his chest sounds awful today. Feel so guilty for leaving it 3 days. I tried to get an apt yesterday and they told me it would be a very long wait and dd wouldn't have coped with that so my hands were tied with no one else to look after her. Should have made dh come home. Feel so shit now.

September60b · 16/06/2015 16:42

Little there's no way you could have known it was anything more than a virus so don't beat yourself up! It would have been really stressful if your dd had got bored. Poor ds. I hope the inhalers and antibiotics kick in soon.

bigfam · 16/06/2015 19:18

Aww little, you can't blame yourself. Now you know you're obviously doing everything you can.

The baby has blisters/sores on her little toes, I'm really confused as to how they got there. The only thing I can think of is from rubbing her feet on the carpet in the jumperoo, anyone had this? I was thinking of taking her to Dr's tomorrow.

Pesto11 · 16/06/2015 21:23

Oh little don't blame yourself
Hope lo responds well to the inhalers and antibiotics so that the chest noises aren't too bad and not in pain. (Hugs)

bigfam could the rubbing in the carpet... Baby doesn't do anything else with feet I suppose... Maybe get it checked out.
Dd's feet get so sweaty in socks these days.

bigfam · 18/06/2015 07:46

Well this is going to be a long day, dd1 has started a relentless bug that's going round in circles, she collapsed after school the other day and was sick then yesterday I was in agony with my stomach along with ds1 who was sick all day yesterday so has to stay off today, dd2 is home and has been a complete horror since 6am and oh is upstairs dying with the bug (apparently though his is worse than anyone else's Hmm) so he's turned into the 5th child today. Grrrrrr

September60b · 18/06/2015 11:33

Oh bigfam what a total nightmare! It's one thing looking after poorly children but when you don't feel so good yourself... Is there anyone that could come and give you a hand for an hour or two?

Hope your ds is doing better too Little.

bigfam · 18/06/2015 19:32

Nope, I had the day from hell too. Oh god good I can't wait to get into bed. I feel better just stressed so much!

Dec1314mummy · 19/06/2015 18:35

Sorry to hear you had a rubbish day bigfam. I hope today has been better. Well Ds has decided to punish me today for going to work the last few days. He has literally cried and tantrumed at everything and anything! Sad he is also going through the 18 month sleep regression.
On a positive note dd has decided that food isn't actually poison and has instead is really enjoying it. She's only having very small amounts, which we will start to increase in a week or so when she is 6 months. Gosh that's crazy to say!
Hope everyone's ok.

OP posts:
Pesto11 · 19/06/2015 22:33

She won't sleep
Aaagghhh
I'm going crazy!
She's still wide awake
Hasn't slept/napped since 6pm
Screams when I attempt to feed her and now she's in my bed trying her best to roll over!
Go to sleep!!!

Pesto11 · 20/06/2015 03:20

And I'm still awake with a screaming baby who is sooo tired but refusing to sleep
Dh however is snoring away next to us! Grr

Dec1314mummy · 20/06/2015 03:25

Oh pesto that's rubbish Sad sorry to hear you're having such a rough time. Hope you get some sleep too.
Hayfever is keeping me up, after baby has been awake, now I can't sleep. Anyone got any miracle cures as I'm struggling so much.

OP posts:
bigfam · 20/06/2015 05:24

Hope you got some sleep in the end pesto, and that you're feeling a bit better.
Dec I get the worst hayfever, I get a huge rash that looks awful and I rub my eyes which makes them swell up, I rubbed my eye so badly last night it still looks odd now and I'm sneezing atm but trying not to wake the baby. Our bedroom is like a furnace, the boiler is in here so even if we're not using it, the room is still hot. It's hard to get comfy and sleep, the baby only seems comfy in a nappy with thin sheets.
Rolling has become annoying, as soon as I put her down she'll roll then get stressed and rubs her face all over the floor!

September60b · 20/06/2015 06:30

Dec my dh gets awful hay fever and swears by beconase (not sure on spelling) nasal spray. It's the only thing that works for him, but I think it depends on what you are allergic to. Apparently at this time of year it is grass pollen. Hayfever can be so grim, you have my sympathy!

Hope you managed to get some good sleep in the end pesto?

I'm currently sat up holding dd after a feed and wondering if I can put her back to bed for an hour....

Alyx80 · 20/06/2015 09:28

Hope you managed to get some sleep pesto.
My sister swears by eating locally produced honey to help her hayfever.

Q is doing ok, he rolled front to back yesterday for the first time in about 6 weeks and is trying to roll back to front but can only manage onto his side at the minute. He's not napping very well during the day but still sleeping brilliantly at night so I can't complain at all. I know he'll change at about 6 months though as all my other boys have :(. Need to enjoy it while it lasts lol.

He's 23.5 weeks now and very interested in watching us eat, can't believe we'll be starting the hassle of weaning soon! I hate it! We'll be in Spain in 3 weeks so will be weaning him onto Spanish food lol.

Pesto11 · 20/06/2015 10:48

The worst night since January!
Finally asleep at 4am! I'm shattered!
All smiles now tho so who knows what last night was about?!?!
It's like she was allergic to me and everything I had to offer!! Dreading weaning now!
Anyone got the beaba babycook machine? Is it worth the expense?
I have a regular steamer for the hob and a hand blender- a bit faffy... Wondering how much time I'll save with an all in 1 machine

My sympathies to all you hay fever sufferers.

Dec- how was being at work?

Alyx and bigfam- how are you still functioning after 4 kids?!
Massive respect to my mum- must ring her and tell her I love her!! 3 kids in 3 years!

bigfam · 20/06/2015 11:29

Sometimes I don't know Dec, but they have their angelic moments. I bought a tommee baby blender which was £20 which is quite good pesto, it's doing all I need it to do.

Ohhh I'm so jealous alyx, Spain!! Hope you have a lovely time Grin

I use lortadine (sp) for hayfever but also have to apply steroid cream when the lumps make an appearance Sad

MomentOfWonder · 20/06/2015 16:31

Pesto, sorry about your dreadful night. It's always worse when there's someone snoozing peacefully beside you...
