Yay - hot water's back and I can have a shower! The really good news though is the original estimate we had was utter BS and it ended up being the 'hot water diaprhagm' (whatever that is) which is dead cheap and easy to fix - total cost came to £35!

cruisemum1 · 27/11/2006 20:47

Cori - re: your comment about getting it over and done with in 10 mins just to pacify dh... that is how ds was conceived in teh first place!! . I don't have the time, energy or inclination to do much else . With you on the precious moments thing too. Felt v sad when I put away all the new born stuff and still clinging on to the fact that he is still under 3 mths and wearing 0 - 3. Bless his cottons!
Re: bedtime - he is so good the rest of the time that I cannot bring myself to do cc. ACtually, I don't really know how to do it. I know you do the gradual lenghtening of time etc. but that's all I basically know My ma is visiting tomorrow for a few days so maybe I could do it then as she can take care of dd. dh is going off to the far east on business so I can reallyl sort out bedtimes etc. More later, ds yelling the house down

Marls001 · 27/11/2006 22:15

Cruisemum - You're not alone. We def. had problems but gone by 2nd time - made me worried though!

Liquid .... Def. have those feelings about watching The Last One of everything ... but much more of me is psyched that I'll NEVER have someone living in me again! Wonderful news about your plumbing!!!

Still very sick, as is DH. We were worried we'd pass it on to Jameson and DS1 but so far, so good.

Cori - To what refers first test in Australia? ... asks the clueless American.

MunkiBaby · 27/11/2006 23:45

The other day, ds was sucking on his hand (as he's really getting into) and he discovered his thumb! it was the cutest thing to see. mind you, it didnt last very long and he hasnt been able to find it again since. i dont know how i feel about thumb sucking just yet. i know its cute, but part of me worries about dental problems and the germa-phobe i have been known to be kinda worries...but hey, i ate dirt, for crying out loud! germs on the fingers will only up his immunities, right? ((and he's only 9 weeks today so its not like he's playing in the mud and touching anything yet. hehehe

Cruise ~ dh and i had problems the first few times. i didnt even have vaginal delivery of ds, and it still was uncomfortable. and not to mention, the very tender belly where the incision is. eeek! I think the biggest problem was CONSTANTLY reminding hubby that it flippin hurt! and to take it easy! ha!

Coriander ~ my ds has had a spot problem on the face since birth. is this something that will go away on its own? or is there something to use on their delicate skin??

anyone else??

Hello all,
I have a bit of a dilemma, I have a slight feeling that there is a small possibility that I may be pregnant and I am terrified.
Last 2 weeks I have been nauseaus and had headaches (similar to the symptoms I had in early pregnancy with dd)and now I cant help but think there is a possibility.
How can I become pregnant again when dd is only 9wks old?? Dont answer that, I know how.
Im am so frightened it just really hit me today even though its been in the back of my mind.
Dp called from work asked how I was and I told him not feeling very well got a headache and he actually asked me "do you think your pregnant?"
I honestly have no idea what I'll do if I am.
Dp gone to 24hr Tesco to get a pg test for me to do.

Its strange I keep typing things and then deleting them because I honestly dont know what to say..........

I feel so stessed cant even eat, it just keeps swimming around in my head what if I am?
I know im jumping the gun and im probably not pg because we did use protection but there is always a slight chance isnt there?

cruisemum1 · 28/11/2006 07:54

Just a quick one before I leave for the school run.... ds did 9pm - 7.15am last night!!!! He actually fell asleep around 7:30pm but woke twice for a yell and a suck but hey - happy mummy today
Redz - get yourself to the chemist quick!!!!!
More later......

Coriander73 · 28/11/2006 08:15

Oh redz....well until you know there is no point in worrying, cross that bridge when it comes! I can't rememeber but is DS your first?...& yes even if he's only 9 weeks it is possible....

Marls, Cricket!! The Ashes series that we play every two years against the old enemy (in cricket terms that is!!)....we won them back in summer 2005 for the first time since 87.....so we are defending them but we were awful in the first test (which consists of 5 days play each test, of which there are 5).....

cruisemum1 · 28/11/2006 08:50

Redz - you must keep us informed - fingers crossed for a negative eh?

mabel1973 · 28/11/2006 09:42

REdz!! - let us know! I know there's a chance, but it must be very unlikely that you will beX
Cori - i know exactly what you mean. With DS1 I was always itching for him to sit up, then crawl then walk. This time I am trying to enjoy each stage as, even though we have said we may have another, you just don't know what fate has in store.
Well so much for Noel edmonds and his Cosmos! after our lovely 6.30am start on sunday, it was 5.30 on mon and 4.10am today, I know that's still not bad, but just when I see a glimmer of hope, things start to regress!
It is Ds1's 2nd birthday on friday, so i have to bake a 'tractor cake' at some point. We aren't going to have a party this year, just take him to a soft play centre, it was chaos last year with our house burtsing at the seams with adults and children!
I took DS1 to pre-school playgroup on friday for a trial to see how he got on if I left him. He was absolutely fine anyway as he is ultra confident, i felt a bit redundant though and I have to buy some of those name tags that you sew in to their clothes!!! I feel like that's it now - he's growing up!!!

MunkiBaby · 28/11/2006 09:58

hmmmm we havent heard from redz so far this morning... i cant help but to be worried for her.

cruisemum1 · 28/11/2006 11:16

redz - are you ok?

clairemow · 28/11/2006 12:38

Redz, thinking of you...

Mabel, I am so with you on the one step forward, two back thing... After sleeping all night on Sunday, Fraser woke up last night at 4 and nothing would calm him except a boob. so he had his first night feed in over 2 weeks. Is there a growth spurt at 12 weeks?

cruisemum1 · 28/11/2006 12:46

clairmow - 'they' say there is a gs at 12 weeks but who knows?! Maybe he just wanted to know you are still available if he fancies a little top up! My ds sometimes won't even settle for a nap unless he has a little suck before it! Quite worried about the habit forming aspect of it tbh. Any opinions anyone?
Mabel - reading your post has made me sceptical that ds will repeat his 10 hour sleep of last night! Hope your lo gets back on track soon at least you know he is able to go through.

cruisemum1 · 28/11/2006 12:48

Mabel - good luck with the tractor cake - very ambitious! I guess I'll have to get used to stuff like that after 8 years of dd's girly birthday cakes!

cruisemum1 · 28/11/2006 12:54

Cori - yes, dd had chicken pox and they were in her mouth, minnie, bottom and around eyes, poor thing looked so forlorn but it's just one of the rites of passage during childhood I guess .
Munki, so sweet the image of lo's sucking their thumbs/fingers. ds franticallly searching for his but hasn't quite managed to co-ordinate hand and mouth yet! Quite agree about the dental dilemma though. Blessing and a curse isn't it?

liquidclocks · 28/11/2006 13:23

Claire - I seem to recall there being something about a 3 month growth spurt so perhaps it's that? Better luck tonight!

Munki - DS1 had baby 'acne' until he was about 3 months and then it calmed down. The important thing is not to pop the spots as a) they're not 'spots' like we would have and b) it breaks the skin which can lead to infection. It does disappear though so don't worry!

Redz - have emailed you about hands - hope it's not too rambling. Hope the pg test went well.

Cori - it had completely passed me by that it was the ashes! I'm SO stuck in babyworld!

Mabel - you're very brave! we went for an asda picture cake this year with a picture of DS1 on it and he loved eating himself! Glad to hear the playgroup went well and naps are improving - hopefully it will continue to get better from here on in.

Marls - hope you're feeling better soon. How's the cc going? DH is wanting to use it to try cutting out DS2's night feed as he's over 13lbs now but I'm not so sure. Think it might be better to wait until he's 3 months.

clairemow · 28/11/2006 13:29

Liquid, we tried the cc thing last night - F started off just shouting a bit, then yelling, then full on screaming. We left him for 20 mins to see if he'd settle, it just got louder and louder, and would have been quicker if I'd just fed him to begin with rather than trying everything else first... Sigh.

F also had baby acne until fairly recently and now it's gone. He's still got lots of cradle cap, so his head looks like its flaking!

Am struggling to think of things to do with DS1 while F is asleep in the day for his longer nap - usually over lunchtime. I've put F in the buggy today, and he's fast asleep in the garden - hasn't stirred since 11.45... and am trying to get DS1 enthusiastic for a walk outside, but all he wants to do is watch "Zippy" - old editions of Rainbow from the 80s, which I probably saw first time round!

cruisemum1 · 28/11/2006 14:14

clairmow - I can't do the cc thing either. Maybe it is me being too weak but I know what he wants and it seems just as easy to let him have it (usually a little suck does the trick). I'll have to sort it sometime though I guess - just not right now .......

liquidclocks · 28/11/2006 16:06

Claire - Have you got a train set? I find it an absolute lifesaver for occupying (without TV) DS1 and it's not too boring for me either! Or did you mean something more active? I'm struggling with that but DH did some 'dancing' last night with him and he loved that (and I laughed my socks off watching them!)

liquidclocks · 28/11/2006 16:39

Also forgot to say for DS1's cradle cap we used the dentinox cradle cap shampoo and it did clear up really quickly.

Sorry you cc didn't work too - I think that's the dilemma though - you know that at some point they need to learn to go back to sleep without food but for now it's easier to just to feed them. Will join in with your sigh!

cruisemum1 · 28/11/2006 16:58

liquid - ds has terrible cradle cap and I am using the Dentinox shampoo - it is still bad but definitely getting less widespread. My dh calls him crispy bacon head, poor little mite!

Coriander73 · 28/11/2006 17:30

DD had & now Jack has horrible cradle cap. Kept under control with sweet almond oil or olive. We did / do use dentinox shampoo too but it tends to dry out the scalp......so unslightly isn't it?? Poor things!

Redz....????

DS had an ok night last night, I think it was about 11:30pm then about 3am then 7am. I've noticed over the last week, he has become very dribbly especially after feeds - he has trails of dribble all down his chin and today I put him in the baby sling and he dribbled all down my cleavage! His little head is looking a bit misshapen too but he always looks to the left so I guess its just flattened on one side - poor thing.
Pistachio - glad the sleeping is going better. Good luck with the jabs.

We're off to Germany next week to see DH's parents. Has anyone taken their LO's on a plane yet and do you have any tips to make it painless for us all?

liquidclocks · 28/11/2006 19:44

Mytle - plane trips for us with DS1 involve his muslin and milk! That's pretty much all you can do. Don't worry too much about it as they can pick up on your anxiety. DS fell asleep during take off both trips we went on - I guess the motion and noise was nice for him - hope yours does the same!

Has everyone seen the foundation for sudden infant death leaflet about 'sleep on the back, play on the front'? It's about preventing flat-head syndrome. My friend followed this philosophy with her DS2 (DS1's got one of the most marked cases I've seen) and when he was on his back she took care he was encouraged to turn his head at intervals to prevent one-sided flatness and it really did help - he's got no flattening at all to speak of. We bought a memory foam pillow to try and stop it this time and though I think it's helped a bit there's still some noticible changes going on so we're trying to do what she did as much as possible.

Cruisemum/Cori - the other thing that really helps with cradle cap that another of my friends has used is to smear their heads with vaseline before bed or a nap and then to gently scratch it off when they wake up - sound yuck but works!
