Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
petrified · 26/11/2006 10:11

Hi everyone,

I really don't get on the computer enough so sorry I just pop in and out so rarely!!!!

Redz- The whole time that I was pregnant I don't think I ever went to bed before 2am and DS sleeps at night so don't worry that it's your fault. I'm sorry that I don't have any suggestions DS has just done it on his own!

Coriander- where is the local John Lewis and if you don't mind me asking how much did the imprints cost?

Well DS is 8 weeks tommorrow, its strange sitting here thinking that this time 8 weeks ago I was in labour and now I can remember the pain but it doesn't seem that bad!!!!!!

We have injections tommorrow and I really hope it doesn't mess up his sleep as the last four nights he has fed at 9pm, fallen asleep at about 10pm then gone through until 7.30am!!! The last 2 days we have given him formula for his 9pm feed, he seems to like it but I felt so bad when we gave it to him. Last night he took 6ozs (the amount it says on the packet for his age and weight) then screamed till I fed him aswell!!! little piggy!!!

I'm moving house next weekend so it may be a while before I can post again but I will try before I move. My lovely landlady decided to put our flat up for sale when DS was 2 weeks old!!

Anyway hope everyone is ok

HellKat · 26/11/2006 10:13

Hiya all.
Sorry I have'nt posted in ages, rarely have 5 mins to myself.
Katie is now 17 weeks & definitely caught up lol. She's weighing around 14/15lbs, has 7ozs every 4 hours & sleeps through. Any of you having trouble try to remember, routine, routine, routine. I've sworn by it with my other two. Every night she's bathed with ds2 (2) at 6.30, given a bottle & normally falls asleep (he's asleep before 7 too). Sometimes she wakes around 8/9 for a top up but then normally goes through until 6ish. She's mastered the art of screaming hrself silly until she gets held (luckily not too often) but she's incredibly placid & happy.
Hope everyone's well & babbas are thriving!
Love to all.

clairemow · 26/11/2006 13:18

Pistachio, you are so right. For the 1 time the LO is lying in sick and poo (Yum yum!), there are at least 100 times that disturbing their winding down to sleep would put them back to square one...

Redz, maybe you will need to change DD's sleeping times very gradually, maybe try half an hour a night or something so that you slowly get to a stage where she's going to sleep at an earlier time. I don't really know what else you can do (sorry, that's not much help I know )

Petrified and Hellkat, nice to hear from you again, and glad everything's going well. good luck with the house move, Petrified!

F slept last night from 10.30 to 6.15 without waking. Hurray. So the dummy cold turkey wasn't too bad!!!

Just heard a great conversation: DH and DS1 watching the gymnastics on TV:

DS1 "Daddy, has she got a big bottom?"
DH "well, I suppose it is quite big."
DS1 "has that one got a big bottom too Daddy?"

And so on like that for a few minutes. I'm sure since they are all international level gymnasts, none of them has even a tiny bottom...

Coriander73 · 26/11/2006 13:54

You see another good reason NOT to to have b-ding again...what with all these scares!!!!

Hi Clairemow, long time no hear! Good to hear from you too HK!

Petrified, as we're in Suffolk, nearest one is either Norwich or Bluewater in Kent - which we always go to as the JL is much bigger & better! The imprints are £60....a bit pricey perhaps but they do look great!

Well, Jack went from 6.30 till 1am last night...! Then till 5 which was fab - it would have been even better had DD not woken 5 times because of the chickenpox...I'd gone to bed at 10 (& left DH to feed lo) so I would have had SEVEN hours sleep.....aarrgghh!!!!! Well, it does show me that he is capable of going longer now...so that's got to be good!

DH has gone to see James Bond...I wish I could get to the cinema....feeling a bit envious as he went to see the rugby at Twickenham a couple of weeks ago too then up to central London for an evening out...he also had a boys weekend about 6 weeks ago racing at Brands Hatch etc. I know that I'm tied becuase of the feeding etc so there's no point in us both not being able to get out etc but it just doesn't seem fair!!!!!!!

clairemow · 26/11/2006 14:51

Hi cori, know what you mean about it not being fair... DH goes out most Fridays with his mates, and my quid pro quo used to be a long lie-in on Sat morning, while he dealt with DS1 with a hangover - can't do that any more.... and I've got a saggy belly too, and boobs that either feel like they're going to pop, or like empty droopy sacks!!!! Ha ha!!

calvemjoe · 26/11/2006 16:20

Clairemow, I'm at your lo sleeping through. Putting dd on to the bottle has put her right back to square one and she's waking twice in the night again.

Mable, dd an ds both had Aptimil when I was combined feeding and we had no problems.

Cori, that you have your central heating back at last. Hope your dd's chickenpox is gone soon and J's chest infection clears up quickly.

Gizmo, Compo & Princesscarrie, Fingers crossed that in 2 weeks you're not getting any surprises

Well, dd has gained 12oz in 4 days of formula feeding and is getting chubby little cheeks and is nearing the 9lb mark at last. Along with the formula has come lots and lots of dirty nappies so I'm happy that her digestive system is working properly now. HV says she's still to thin for her injections, but in another week she should be nearly there. Both of them have been full of cold this week and dd wasn't heavy enough for calpol until tuesday so I was struggling for a few days. By the time she was heavy enough she was over the worst and didn't need it anymore! I'm impressed with all of you that are managing to bd, not a chance yet over here!

Keep looking after those little ones

Marls001 · 26/11/2006 16:28

Hi all - sorry not too much catch-up Been fighting off another throat illness; both DH & I now on zithromycin So ... the 3 nights DH & I were able to spend in bed together (Thanks, MIL ) ... we were sick as dogs, spending whole night coughing - LOL, I guess ... romance will have to wait!

Myrtle - now reading a new book called "What Every American Should Know About the Rest of the World" - LOL,

PrincessC - actually glad it wasn't just me

Redz - . Ours wakes up at 4:00, when he doesn't need food til 5:30. (And then at 4 I can't fall back asleep!! ) Well, I am taking charge. At least one of us needs more sleep. DH next week will move night feeding up to 10 pm, then let me handle it. Co-sleeper will be put in our closet, downstairs, with 4 doors and 2 white noisemakers between baby & DS/DH (sleeping upstairs). Baby WILL learn to sleep through!! Grr. He can physically do it.

Claire - With you on the body thing. How ironic is it, one of the primary places we women are judged to be beautiful & fit - or not - is lower stomach?? The things we do to bring people into the world ... [sigh]

clairemow · 26/11/2006 17:48

calvemjoe, that weight gain is amazing! You must be so relieved. I expect her sleeping will get back on track once she's used to the changes with swapping to formula.

Marls, sorry to hear you've been ill, hope you're better now? It's hard to tackle the night time sleep when you're hacking away with a cough - always manage to cough at exactly the wrong time and wake the baby up again!

Forgot to say earlier, Munkibaby, I had a look at your pics on Yahoo - that one of your DH and LO is gorgeous! Such a cute pose - are they both asleep?!

Another week starting tomorrow. Does anyone else dislike Sunday evenings??!!

bristols · 26/11/2006 20:17

Have been in France with DS for the past week visiting my parents. DH couldn't come so we made the trip alone and although I was dreading the journey, it was fine. So much to catch up on!

Put DS in his own room to sleep for the first time last night. He did really well. He woke every four hours which was great for me. I think that he was being disturbed by having us in the room with him. In France he took to waking every two hours

Don't have time to write to you all individually but will make more effort next week!

I don't mind Sunday evenings (especially now I'm not at work) but the week ahead does always seem long. Its doing the same things day after day. Am also feeling a bit tied by BFing. Would really love a few hours to myself. I've forgotten what its like!

Have a good night, everyone

Myrtle1 · 26/11/2006 20:19

Clairemow, I don't like sunday evenings because I get used to DH helping with DS all weekend and then monday morning comes as a shock when he goes off to work and its just me and DS again!
I hope everyone gets a good night.

redz · 26/11/2006 23:05

Hi all,
Well I put dd at down at 10:30pm and though yey ive done it!! however as im typing these words she has just woken up crying
Gonna give it 15 minutes and see if she settles back down.

Thanks Clairmow, thats waht I think too im going to try and gradually bring the time forward slowly untill she can go to sleep at a more reasonable hour. Just though I was lucky because she fell asleep all by herself.

Petrified you are so lucky with ds sleeping. I just hope dd grows into it fingers crossed.

Marls isnt it the worst thing when your woken up and cant go back to sleep I normally tidy the house and then find when im finished I could have a nice sleep but of course thats when dd wakes up and wants to have a chat!!

She's settled back down now can still hear her having a moan but at least she's not crying.

Just out of interest (im sure its been discussed before)
How long in general do you all leave your lo's to cry before attending to them?

Hope everyones doing well.x

mabel1973 · 27/11/2006 11:57

hi all not been able to get on for a few days.
Things been abit better with DS1, he is now going to bed ok and I am not having to sit with him during the day til he falls asleep for his nap, which is great - such a relief!
On saturday night both slept through til 6.30am - bliss!
funnily enough (you are going to laugh), I went for a meal with the girls on friday night and we ended up discussing Noel Edmonds new book - about how to get what you want and my friend was saying that he says you have to 'ask the Cosmos' for what you want, she asked to get her tax credits sorted and a couple of days later they were, so I went home and asked if DS1 and 2 would both sleep til between 6 and 7am - lo and behold! So girls you know what to do - put your faith in Noel!
(I am not sure if it works for lottery numbers!)

mabel1973 · 27/11/2006 11:59

forgot to add - I still haven't bothered with the formula - I was intending to get some Farley's to try, but as he's slept through on just breast milk, I am going to stick with it and see, as he doesn't seem to need topping up at the moment.

clairemow · 27/11/2006 13:11

Redz, I think you are lucky that your LO does fall asleep by herself, even if it's at an antisocial time! At least you're not having to fight two battles...

Mabel, I went out and bought some formula at the weekend as well (Cow & Gate - not tried it before, we had Hipp Organic for DS1 but I can't find it anywhere?), but it's sitting on the window sill vegetating at the moment. Whenever we have a difficult afternoon feed (i.e. DS1 is a pain in the a*se (!)), I swear I'll open it tomorrow, and then I don't.

Last night was great - F had his last feed at 10.30 and then slept until 7, with a little chatter to himself around 3.30 - I was just thinking "oh no", but he didn't cry and then went back off. Amazing!

Coriander73 · 27/11/2006 13:22

Clairemow, we used HiPP organic with DD & am now using it for Jack. You can get it at Tesco's, Sainsbury & Waitrose

liquidclocks · 27/11/2006 13:48

Cori - the bad 'gas' karma has come here instead Heating's working but no hot water - going to have to boil lots of kettles so we can all have baths later, going to cost at least £200 to fix so there goes our Christmas presents - at least we're warm though!

Claire - that sleep through's great, there's hope for us yet! DS2's finally started sleeping properly during the day which is great but night times seem to go good night (wakes at 5am only), bad night (wakes at 2/3am then 6ish) alternately - and seems to correspond with DH getting the good ones and me the bad ones - grrr. Good luck with the formula - you've done so amazingly well getting this far exclusively BF, whatever you do now you're a success!

I'm dropping this week from 2 expressings down to one as I can feel my supply tailing off anyway so he'll only be getting 2 bottles of EBM instead of 4. I've started getting my fuzzy head back though which tells me it's time I got back on my meds - and I know when I do I'll have loads more energy so I think it's a good trade off for the boys (still can't get used to how tht sounds!) and me.

Does anyone else who knows they're stopping at 2 feel slightly sad as they're LO's reach new stages? I feel that although it's wonderful I get a sense of loss that I'll never have another LO this small and helpless - and cute - again - weird!

Mabel - LOL at your 'faith' in Noel!

clairemow · 27/11/2006 13:54

for your heating Liquid! Sorry to hear your fuzzy head is back - you need to make sure you look after yourself - the boys would be lost without you! We had exactly the same re. sleeping - F would sleep one night til 5.30, then the next night, wake up 2.30 and 6. Gradually the bad nights got fewer and the good nights more frequent, but only in the last couple of weeks, so there's definitely hope only a short way off the horizon!

I've got that feeling too about stages passing. Fraser is so cute at the moment when he smiles and grins, and I know that stage'll be over at some point. I gave away a load of newborn clothes to a friend the other day, thinking I won't need these again... I'm torn between thanking heavens we'll never have to go through those first 6 weeks of total sleep deprivation again, and thinking my babies are so lovely I want them to stay as they are!

F has his second injections in 40 mins... ouch!

Myrtle1 · 27/11/2006 14:28

Clairemow, good luck with the injections.
We seem to be taking a step backwards in the sleeping stakes at the moment. E fell asleep at 6:30pm and then woke about 7:30pm to be soothed by DH (I was out) who then put him back down to bed at 8pmish then he slept til 11:30pm, had a feed on both breasts and then was up again at 2:30am then wet himself and woke up for another feed at 4:30am, stirred at 5:30am but went back to sleep then up at 7:45am. After changing nappy at 4:30 I tried soothing and putting back but he was having none of it yet when he fed at both night feeds he was taking much and was just dozing on the breast. Does anyone have any tips? Sometimes he seems to wake after a fart or if he is cold but then he won't go back off to sleep without a feed.

Myrtle1 · 27/11/2006 14:30

Sorry, that was meant to say he wasn't taking much at both night feeds, just a few little sucks and then dozing on breast despite my efforts to rouse him a bit.

MunkiBaby · 27/11/2006 16:02

Clairemow ~ dh hates to have photos taken so usually my only opportunity is when hes sleeping. that particular photo, however, i placed the ds ((near feeding time as he was rooting around)) up next to DH while he was waking up from a nap. ((Nap? whats that? hehehe . Fynn stared suckling his nose! ha! and as always, i had the camera on hand.
Thanks!

On the usual topic of sleeping and bfing...bf'g seems to be going well. nothing out of the ordinary. and sleeping, well... im happy to know that im not the only one who's LO isnt sleeping thru or that hasnt found a solid routine. so im just going to chalk it up to us all being in the normal situation. broken sleep with the very very rare night of solid sleep. ((i think ive had it once, if ONly waking at 4am to eat counts.))

so i guess its safe to say that waking in the night around the same time isourroutine. and should the time come that he sleeps thru the night? then i'll be blessing his little shorts and sleeping for joy. im sure my need to have routine will be a bit more harsh or demanding when we have a second child, right??

besides being sleep deprved, how was everyone's weekend? sunday, i let the dh lay in while i bathed, dressed, and fed ds. ((i had motive for doing so... [insert evil laugh here].... i knew dh was heading over to his folks house for a little bit to fix a computer, so i had every intention of sending the lo off with daddy in the pram.)) he was slightly reluctant at first, but i had to remind dh that it would be my first time without ds!i swear that was the longest hot bath and nap id had in months!! ahhhhhhhhh......

cruisemum1 · 27/11/2006 16:37

Hello all! I have been trying to get on a post all day but thigns keep cropping up. Now I am here I don't know wht to say!
Mabel, Marls and Munki - I ahve finallly conquered my fear of putting ds down in his cot if he wakes at 5am (it seems to be nearer to 6am lately . I put him in his cot and he may stir briefly and have a little thrash about but he settles really well and usually re-wakes around 7ish! He still causes a fuss when I puthim down at bedtime though - one step at at time I guess
Pistachio how are the nighttimes with lo going? I do hope you are managing to get some rest. Sleep deprivation is just the pits isn't it?!
Well, dh and I managed to have a roll in the hay last night . I must admit I was quite nervous about it being uncomfortable (which it was . Anyone else had probs? Maybe it was just as it was the first time? Still wondering how to get ds to settle in his cot without fussing and crying. Any ideas?

bristols · 27/11/2006 18:15

Cruisemum - definitely felt a bit uncomfortable the first time and also the second time. I'm sure that's normal given the trama of giving birth!! I can't comment any further since we haven't done it again... Maybe when I have a full night's sleep I'll feel more energetic and in the mood

Must dash, DS screaming the place down. Think its bath time.

Coriander73 · 27/11/2006 19:18

Respect to you too cruisemum!! DH was so in the mood last night but I pushed him away...he felt rejected - & so he might after not paying him one conjugal visit in 11 months!! I'm getting there, really I am but I'm just too tired. When I get into bed I just want sleep not to think, well I could get this over with in 10 mins flat if I try.. There is also a tiny part of me that is worried about getting pg again....not that I should if we use something but as we don't want anymore (well I think not..) I'm more worried all of a sudden - when we just had one I didn't really care about being a bit mroe carefree in the sack so to speak..not that we were but it wouldn't have mattered if you see what I mean??

Clairemow, Liquid, know how you feel about these precious moments etc. I'm enjoying this stage a lot more than I ever did with DD & that's totally due I'm sure to making the most of it this time because we know just how quick this time passes. I put away all the newborn stuff & most of the 0-3 the other day & felt a sudden twinge of sadness...silly really but it all seems so final. Liquid sorry to hear about the hot water / heating probs We have ours back now but the shower broke this morning......it doesn't rain it pours. Cruisemum, tried controlled crying?

DH put J to bed tonight with the formula feed. Last night he got up at 2 to him but by the time he faffed around I found myself making the bottle & DH calming him down! Funny thing was, it was as J knew he was having the bottle at 6.30 rather than me as he kicked up such a fuss. Wouldn't take the teat for ages etc & was geting really wound up. Anyhow, he did take 3oz (only!!) & would only calm down once I went in & gave him a cuddle - whether that was the right thing to do or not I don't know.....but poor DH just looked peed & mumbled something about him being a Mummy's boy!!!

DD still very spotty...& did you know girls get quite a few spots in & around their vaginas?? Just having to treat them makes my eyes water... I'm told that boys can get them under their foreskins so we have that joy to come...hopefully not now. The doctor did say he should still have my immunities until 6-9 months but you never know.

Can't belive how crap we were in the 1st test down under......those aussies have really made a statement of intent wouldn't you say?
