DD doesn't really watch much TV. Cbeebies is on for DS after school but it doesn't hold her interest. She wants Thomas but if we watch it she says she doesn't like it. Octonuats go down well with both but again she'll only watch a few min. She's not really a sit down kind of child, much to my dismay.

SunnyL · 17/09/2015 14:07

The only thing we watch is In the Night Garden but bugger me she loves it. I've banned Peppa Pig as the music drives me mad. My mum often has CBeebies on when she looks after her but I don't think she really watches anything else.

cuphat · 17/09/2015 14:26

DD watches it when she goes downstairs with DH first thing in the morning, and after dinner. But not everyday. She'd rather watch a few episodes of one thing than just have cbeebies on (same as us - TV isn't on during the day and we just record what we're interested in).

She does like trains so will look at Chuggington and she hasn't seen Ben and Holly yet either. She did like a couple of episodes of the new Thomas but then saw one where the fat controller's hat was knocked off by a snowball and she won't watch it now!

DD doesn't sit down for long unless she's looking at books. She still loves her books!

Bean, DD loves the swimming pool and beach here. She doesn't know any different. Grin

I wasn't going to bother buying DS anything but had it pointed out that DD would expect him to have presents! Maybe we'll let her choose something.

cuphat · 17/09/2015 14:31

I remember our nephew liking In The Night Garden, though he was scared of something in it (an airship type thing?). That was before we had children and I said then that I wouldn't let mine watch it as it was too weird. Same for the teletubbies, though I don't think anyone watches that nowadays.

AlohaMama · 17/09/2015 14:32

Saying that I'm knackered today and just wanted to sit and have a cup of tea. After attempting 10 programs to which DD just said "don't like it" we are now on 2nd episode of twirlywoos! We watch Nelly and Nora too but that might just be because I love it!

We got presents for DD when she was a baby, mainly to meet DS expectations, but just wrapped up stuff we'd have bought anyway, like next size clothes, with the odd new toy thrown in. Hopefully this baby will be born just after Christmas as it won't have a stocking.

Raeside · 17/09/2015 15:23

Ah. I hear from DH that Joe jumped out of his cot for the first time this morning and came to say 'HULLO! YELLOW!' to his Babbo at 8am on the dot (thank you GroClock) so we are now on the hunt for a new bed.

Is there any safety reason I can't just get an old-school cast iron bed frame? He has some lovely chest of drawers from Aspace but the matching bed is bloody pricey. We are keen to sort his bedroom properly so we don't need to think about it again till he's, like, ten.

AlohaMama · 17/09/2015 16:07

I don't see of any safety concerns once they are into beds. You might just want to ensure a bed guard will fit with it, but I don't see why it wouldn't.

Raeside · 17/09/2015 16:16

Thanks Aloha! I'm struggling to balance what I would like (decor, design) with what J would like once he gets past the stage of wanting to escape. Trying to avoid a whole-room redecorate at aged 5 or 6.

HungryHorace · 17/09/2015 16:29

Top TV here is Hey Duggee, Bing, DipDap and Sarah & Duck. All ok bar Bing who's a whiney shit!

DD loves her kitchen. Asda do a nice wooden one for £40, apparently.

We have a single bed with metal head and foot. I don't see a problem with it.

BeanCalledPickle · 17/09/2015 18:16

Polly is in a full size single with no issues whatsoever. Buy a decent frame and you will never have to think about it again. Unless you get him a double in the long run so he can entertain GIRLS.

PeekABooPinky101 · 17/09/2015 19:32

We've just got sky and dd has found a new love of the Disney channel, princess Sofia and Henry Hugglemonster are now met with a hello.
Before that Mr tumble was yelled at, and duck from Sarah and duck was loved. She also had a thing for Bing and would actually sit down to watch that. I miss CBeebies! (Monsters inc was discovered the other day too, but that had to take a trip to Nanna's, the dvd used to be mine, and skips like anything and I could not bring myself to keep skipping stuck parts)

Her room is next on my list to sort, and that will involve the move into a single bed. I know there will be many a night she scares the crap out of me by suddenly appearing beside me. Mind you I'm sleeping rubbish at the moment, so that'll only happen if I'm actually asleep.

cuphat · 17/09/2015 21:13

Thanks for the recs. I haven't heard of most of them so have written a list and will do some research on youtube before letting DD get hooked on anything else! I had heard of Bing from the stolen teddy thread. I'm liking the sound of Sarah and Duck. Based on title alone!

HungryHorace · 17/09/2015 21:15

Stair gate on door, Pinky...job's a good 'un!

Raeside · 18/09/2015 08:48

Yes Bean I think we will just go straight to a full size single too - I'm looking at platform beds and cabin beds and things with underbed storage as my luxury life of a lot of storage in J's room till now will end with his move to a proper bed.....

I am wondering if I can get away with one of those mid-rise beds that are only a couple of feet off the ground! They say not till 4pm but he's not a thrasher when asleep and with a nice big rail.....hmmmmmm.

As I have itchy feet and want to move and as DH is vehemently against it I have diverted myself with sorting J's room (have any of you come across Mr Fox Magazine? It's great, my mate does it -it's online and you can sign up free to get weekly info and updates - gorgeous stuff and great ideas - has a facebook page and is to be found here www.mrfoxmagazine.com/ - I really recommend it.

I've also decided to paint our standard Victorian mid-terrace a shocking shade of blue and I'm going in with an orange door. Getting quotes now. Neighbours will either be outraged (I will enjoy it) or get on board and do similar (I will like that too).

Raeside · 18/09/2015 08:49

Not till 4pm? Jeez. 4 years of age. Had a shit night of sleep at the hotel last night with some dirty shagger next door going through three (THREE!) girls between 730pm and 4am. I'm done in. As, I imagine, must he be. Two out of the three girls left in tears so I don't imagine their mothers would approve.

Biscuitswithtea · 18/09/2015 08:51

Wow. So much to catch up on!
Fab news on the scan Sunny :)

TV - DS is obsessed with Sarah & Duck. He tolerates 'Beebies' for short spells of time but we're generally not fans of having the tv on for the sake of it. Exceptions to this are if he is poorly and flopped out on the sofa or if he's woken indecently early (pre 6am) and won't go back to sleep. It acts as a way of keeping him in that dopey state. I'm sure reading to him would have the same effect but I'm never awake enough to cope!! Blush

However we took him to the cinema last weekend with some friends. He was brilliant. He sat in his own seat for most of it (though we had to hold it down for him to stop it flipping back up on him!), was quiet and engaged all the way through. Helped that it was a 10.30am screening. It won't become a regular jolly but nice to know he can concentrate for 1.5hrs! Minions on the other hand is only just bearable

SunnyL · 18/09/2015 09:00

Which cinema did you got to Biscuits? DH is on night shift this weekend and I was vaguely thinking about a cinema trip as a test.

I'm halfway through painting 2 single beds I got from my grandpas house - she sleeps in single beds on holiday absolutely fine so can't see it being an issue when we swap her.

Biscuitswithtea · 18/09/2015 13:08

We went to the odeon in town, purely because of meeting friends. Otherwise the one nearer us would have been fine.
Beware though, children's tickets are almost as much as adults so for the three of us to go cost nearly 20 quid. Worth every penny on a soggy day and you're knackered though!

AlohaMama · 18/09/2015 19:51

rae we got DS a mid sleeper when he was about 2.5. The bed and the underneath part are separate so you can start with the bed and then add on the underneath part when you are ready, which we did after a few months. They have a low rail all along the edge so I wasn't particularly worried about him falling out.

Raeside · 18/09/2015 20:31

That is aces Aloha - thank you!

cuphat · 19/09/2015 07:52

Ooh we were wondering when the cinema would be an option. I don't think DD would sit through a whole film at home. Maybe she would in a dark room with nothing else going on. Although I'm ebf, DS isn't the boob monster that DD was so I can leave him for a couple of hours between feeds (first test was the hairdressers a couple of weeks ago).

Sarah & Duck was a hit. DVD ordered. Thanks for the recs. Also ordered Ben and Holly.

SunnyL · 19/09/2015 08:50

Biscuits I'm reliably informed by my sister the pro mother (has had 3 kids) that there is something called kids am at the cinema on sat mornings where tickets are a £1. Fountainbridge and The Fort do it.

Biscuitswithtea · 19/09/2015 22:16

Oh, that's good to know. I doubt we will go all that often but it would be nice for it not to cost a fortune all the same!!

Biscuitswithtea · 20/09/2015 08:59

Moan alert!
I think I might be broken. DS has been getting up at 5ish for the past 10 days. This morning must have been the last straw as have been grumpy since c7.30am!! DH has taken him out for the morning. I'm appreciative of the peace but pissed off that to get the down time I need to bypass a nice trip. Our family time is so precious.
Rationally I know that sleep deprivation is a bugger, it's been a sod of a busy week, DH and I have barely seen each other due to various commitments and the arrival of my period at the start of the week put me in a bit of a grump too.
So what I should do is sit on the sofa, drink tea and paint my toenails. What I'll probably do is lots of much needed chores and drink tepid tea Hmm

HungryHorace · 20/09/2015 13:53

Are you properly TTC now, Biscuits (hence the period grump)? Or is it just a general period grump?!

I'm permanently sleep deprived, but it's partly because I have to get up at 5.30 to go to work. Thankfully that changes a week on Weds when I start my new job.

Has anything changed with DS to cause the early wake-ups, or do you think it's a phase?
