Frozen mars bars are pretty tasty.

cuphat · 28/08/2015 11:01

Fingers crossed that social services are right.

Agree with Rae though, I wouldn't be complaining about the Mars Bars (too sweet for me but I'm sure DH would eat them).

RueDeWakening · 28/08/2015 22:10

Hope your neighbour gets looked after properly Bean, sounds tough all round.

We've got back from 2 weeks away to find the electricity tripped the day after we left (smart meter shows when it went off). Spent all day emptying and cleaning a big fridge and 2 freezers. Wheelie bin completely full of manky food, towels sacrificed to help mop up the grim. But, ugh. Need to phone the insurance too, not looking forward to that one.

M has had a growth spurt while we've been away - new words have come thick and fast, and he's grown 3 centimetres in 2 weeks! He slept for 3 hours yesterday afternoon, then went back to sleep for 12 hours overnight - if he's broken, I'm not complaining :o

AlohaMama · 30/08/2015 18:35

Gutted about the fridge rue. Hope the insurance proves to be relatively pain-free.

So it appears that DD is deciding to forego the afternoon nap. Unforutnately ever since we have taken the side off the cot she has not napped. But she is obviously tired and previously was sleeping a good couple of hours. I'm hoping once we get into the normal term time routine she might get back into it. Urgh, I need that time!! it probably doesn't help that she had a sick-bug a couple of weeks back and her poos still aren't back to normnal so she'll end up pooing a couple of times which obviously doesnt' help with sleeping. Please tell me she hasnt' given up naps for good Sad

SunnyL · 31/08/2015 20:22

So using the website on my phone is shit - lost all my previous post.

Apparently going on holiday with grandparents is a good way to fix a broken child. She now sleeps in til 7.30-8 - in fact i was late for work today because she didn't wake me up!

She also took up rock climbing on holiday which worked well until grandpa got distracted and failed to catch her when she launched herself into the air off a rock. Thankfully it was sand as the nearest A&E was a 5 hour ferry ride away!

RueDeWakening · 03/09/2015 22:48

Shock God, sunny, how's grandpa?! Bet he's had palpitations thinking about it ever since!

Hurrah for the first day of term, big two are back to school so I'm gradually getting back to normal around the house. And playgroup started today as well, which was nice.

How's everyone else doing?

SunnyL · 04/09/2015 15:33

Yes I think it was a bit of a heart stopping moment. Thankfully i didn't see it.

I'm turning into a hormonal mess. We went to see In the Night Garden Live today and I cried when Iggle Piggle came on in his boat. He looked so cute!

PeekABooPinky101 · 04/09/2015 19:15

grumble grumble I finally logged in and have sort of caught up. Is the new app up and running yet?! I can't cope without an app.

In other news two year check here next week, how many questions do you have to fill in for it?! Never ending!
Dd has been doing pretty good. She hates the potty. So that's a no go at the moment.

I'm still refusing to acknowledge that a big bed is just around the corner. I know it won't be long. But it's not happening yet. I need to decorate her bedroom, been meaning to do it since we moved in. So that's next on the list and a big bed will come with that I think. sigh

HungryHorace · 04/09/2015 21:24

DD started pre-school on Thursday and appears to like it so far (though she cried when she had to come inside from playing outside on her first day and set the rest of the kids off too. Oops!).

That does sound scary, Sunny. I doubt the lack of attention will happen again!

What do you mean by pre school HH? Nursery but short days?

I am packing for our holiday. 150 sodding nappies. Ten days. Both children can knock through a dozen on a bad day.

My life is ruled by absorbent material.

Can't be bothered truth be told. Juno is rocking her four month sleep regression and thirteen straight days of 'quality time' with Polly is overwhelming! Very much same shit different place:)

HungryHorace · 05/09/2015 07:16

Kind of, but it's not child care as such as it is more of an educational setting to an extent. And you can only go from 2 years' old too.

I don't know what nursery is like so can't compare really. I imagine you're right in that it's the same but shorter!

She's going 9.15 - 11.45 on two days.

I couldn't be arsed with flying somewhere with these two. Kudos to you for doing it!

I think nursery and preschool have to follow the same early years curriculum, but nursery takes all ages but preschool is just for starting at 2-3 depending on school. E is starting two mornings a week from this week. I originally was going to wait till Jan, but seeing as little brother is due jan I though it was better to get her settled this term. She always loved it when we dropped DS off (cried when we left) so let's hope she loves it without him being there. DS starts school Monday. Can't believe it he's all growed up.

BeanCalledPickle · 05/09/2015 20:46

Ah ok, so no meals or sleep there etc? Are you paying for it? Nursery is 730 to 630 though she's there 8-545 most days. All food etc is included.

Did make me smile when people were talking about short days to settle into reception. Mine won't need that. She's used to ten hour days. School will be a breeze!

HungryHorace · 05/09/2015 21:03

They have snack time where the food is provided. If they do a full day and stay for lunch it needs to be sent with them.

I've no idea about sleep. I'd think there's nowhere to do this, so no chance of full days for DD, she'd not be too happy with that!

And yes, we pay £5 per hour, so £25 per week. I'm using childcare vouchers which are rather useful. :-)

BeanCalledPickle · 05/09/2015 21:30

Oh you'd be surprised. At ours they just whip out a load of mats on the floor. My child who never goes to sleep without a fight merrily curls up and passes out for two bloody hours!

SunnyL · 05/09/2015 21:36

Lily is the same. Nursery cured her of the horror of nap times. Used to take me ages to fight the little horror to sleep. Nursery are miracle workers.

HungryHorace · 06/09/2015 07:32

I'd merrily kill anybody who let DD sleep for 2 hours in the day as she'd never go to bed. An hour, tops, depending on when she goes, is enough!

We didn't ask about naps as it wasn't relevant (and is why we chose the morning session as she has lunch once home and then her short nap).

OP posts:
BeanCalledPickle · 06/09/2015 09:39

Peer pressure is an interesting thing. I know kids who've totally dropped their nap at home and yet still sleep two hours at nursery.

Today is the first day ever where there is no scope for a Polly nap at all. What will happen? Will she explode? Or ideally, sleep on the plane?

HungryHorace · 06/09/2015 13:59

She'll explode. On the plane!

AlohaMama · 06/09/2015 16:06

If she's a normal child she will very cutely fall asleep in your arms at the perfect time. If howe've she is like E, she will get progressively more hyperactive, fight all tiredness, and then take ages to fall asleep even when she gets to go to bed. So. Good luck, and have the gin handy.

Raeside · 06/09/2015 18:45

Hullo Hullo! Sorry been far behind and trying to catch up, life returning to normal after the grimness of a failed attempt at upduffness......I start a new contract in Bristol tomorrow so will be away for 3 days and as gooda s 3 nights per week. Doing it for the filthy lucre, at least three months but possibly for 5-6 and am dreading so much time away. In theory two nights a week in a nice hotel room sounds blissful but I know from experience they get really boring really fast.

Joe starts at his ridiculous nursery next Tuesday - 915-1215 three mornings a week, so 12 hours in total, and having been in receipt of the Autumn term invoice you'd think they're serving them solid bloody gold for snacks! Anyway they won't take them for a 'full day' (915-315pm) till they drop the afternoon nap but he still logs 1.5-2.5hrs at least 5-6 days a week and am very reluctant to drop them. Having said that on the days he doesn't nap he manages to stay up fine so I'm thinking next term will ask for him to go 3 full days and he can just deal with it - it's becoming a value for money decision!

Good luck on the travelling Bean - you'll be fine. You've licence to booze unreservedly and inadvisably on holiday and my experience is you must. We are going to Stockholm for 4 nights/5 days first week of December and can't decide if we've made a good or stupid decision to bring J along with us. Guess we will find out.

How is everyone else doing? Are you caring for small humans with massive opinions but without the intellect or logic to back it up? I hope so, in order that I feel better! having said that, J is reaching new heights of cute and I am a sucker for the random hugs and (really quite sloppy, has a very poor technique) kisses that come my way, but am sure I'm just being a sook cause I'm about to abandon him so badly.

RueDeWakening · 09/09/2015 16:15

See what happens when I leave the room for 2 minutes?! Argh, there goes my nice peaceful evening...

June 2013: Here come the terrible twos!
HungryHorace · 09/09/2015 17:22

Oh no! No chance of DD doing that!

OP posts:
SunnyL · 10/09/2015 18:56

So tomorrow I have a child free day. DH has taken her south to see his grandma.

So what shall i do with myself? Have a lie in, meet some friends for brunch, go for a spa day, go swimming, get my hair done?

No instead I will go to work on my day off and probably stay super late. Why was I so keen for a second??

AlohaMama · 11/09/2015 11:42

Sounds very indulgent sunny ! I have a child free morning this morning. DS is now in school full time and DD has gone in for her first full morning at prescool. So far all I've done is a bit of shopping (but goodness me that is so much easier without kids) but am going to treat myself to a pregnancy massage in a couple of weeks. Can't wait!
