Oh yes! So you were! Given his nocturnal wanderings, we will want one before we go on holiday in a couple of wks... I'll email you Smile

HungryHorace · 21/08/2015 06:28

Hmmm...I'd like one of these self-changing toddlers please!

DD's having a hellish time with her final molars and / or nightmares at the moment as she's waking crying a few times a night. She's told us her teeth hurt, but I think she's just going through a huge developmental phase and she always gets nightmares then. Poor baby. :-(

Well I think the side-of-the-cot-removal-debate is officially redundant now seeing as E can get out of bed with it still up. Yesterday mornign she joined us in bed, having managed to unzip her (inside out) sleeping bag, take it off, climb out, open her bedroom door and come upstairs. And tonight i've just put her back in her bed for the 4th time, sometimes she's taken off the sleeping back and sometimes not. We'd been trying to contain her physcially but now it's just going to have to be a behavioural/obedience thing. Hmm

SunnyL · 21/08/2015 20:41

Ha ha. that actually makes me feel better as we were saying we regretted taking the side off too early today. given my child's wayward ways i think she'd have been a similar pest to yours Aloha.

Pooped tonight after a day at the museum of flight climbing in and out of planes. Grin

AlohaMama · 22/08/2015 06:39

Well to update on last night's activities. After putting E back in bed for the 4th or 5tt time we decided to take the side off the cot, so at least she could get back in the bed herself. She faffed around for a bit but did eventually settle down to sleep in her bed by 8pm (bed time 6.30 so not too bad). At one point she'd got out, rifled through her drawers, changed into a new nappy and changed into a new outfit! And this is after me laughing at Sunnys post the other day and asking DH - what 2 year old manages to change their own nappy??!

The downside is of course that at 6.10 this mornign she woke up screaming and came straight out of her room. Definitely need to get a stair gate for her room as she's downstairs with access to kitchen, bathroom etc. We'll see how we go today for naptime - wish me luck!

SunnyL · 22/08/2015 06:42

I've just ordered a grow clock to see if that might persuade her to stay in bed in the morning.

Course last night i had a visitor at 1.30 to tell me she couldn't find her blanket. Before I knew it she'd climbed into bed, nicked my pillow and had despatched me to get her blanket. she's still snoring next to me now Angry

Biscuitswithtea · 22/08/2015 07:35

Oh, let us know how you get on with that Sunny! DS is still waking up early, though not as early as before when naps were longer. But he wakes up ravenous so I'm not sure we can do much about it until this patch passes.

I had to go into work yesterday & take Ds with me. He was marching around the department, exploring all the rooms. He conveniently weighed himself on some NHS issue scales (bang on 10kg). I hope they're wrong (Hmm ) cause take into account his clothes and shoes and he's probably lost weight since his last check 5 months ago!

cuphat · 22/08/2015 08:32

Sides still on here, and no desire to remove them. DD is very laid back and has never attempted to get out.

DD has had a full three hour nap every day this week but she's slept in longer each morning?! We had a 7am lie in this morning (both of them woke up at the same time!).

Interest in the toilet has reappeared. For now. She keeps asking where her special seat is. I'm making DH read the book today.

BeanCalledPickle · 22/08/2015 09:59

Think we are shelving potty training for now. After a 'poo on my hand!' incident and then last nights obvious need for toilet, getting herself into terrible state, refusing to go on potty or toilet and then weeing straight away in bath. Impressed with her ability to hold on though!

Two children destroying me at the moment. Juno is as routine driven as her sister, stick to it and she will reward you by sleeping well. Last night she woke at 1030, 1230, 430 and 6. This is because I went out for lunch and she only got minimal naps in a hot carry cot and accordingly was an overtired mess today. How I would love an 'I can sleep anywhere' child.

cuphat · 22/08/2015 10:53

That was DD, bean. It was a right pain.

DD still does soft poos (unless she hasn't been drinking much) so toilet training could be disastrous.

SunnyL · 22/08/2015 20:13

Humph. she's insisted on going to bed cuddling the grow clock except the cable doesn't stretch that far so currently it is a very expensive plastic teddy! Angry

Biscuitswithtea · 22/08/2015 21:12

But if she stays in bed with it until 7.30am then it still works Wink

SunnyL · 23/08/2015 07:58

Well she kind of stayed in bed til 7.30. Trouble was it was my bed because she crawled in at 5.30 to show me the damned grow clock!

HungryHorace · 23/08/2015 11:16

Oh no...I'm sure it will improve, Sunny!

OP posts:
AlohaMama · 24/08/2015 07:00

Ah sunny thats kind of cute!

Well cosidering the kid of girl E is, having the cot side off has been very successful. She has got out but the main thing is that she can get herself back in again to sleep. We have put a bedguard on so she doesnt fall out but it leaves a gap for her to climb up.

HungryHorace · 24/08/2015 07:20

I think they just get to the point where they don't want bars, Aloha.

DD sleeps way better in the single bed and goes to bed with far less fuss.

OP posts:
BeanCalledPickle · 24/08/2015 08:39

Last night was the first night in the proper full size single bed. Note the bed guard at the side, the bottom, the cot bed mattress underneath as a crash pad and the limited bedding!

June 2013: Here come the terrible twos!
HungryHorace · 24/08/2015 09:14

How did it go, Bean?

We have a side guard too, though a normal duvet / pillow.

OP posts:
BeanCalledPickle · 24/08/2015 09:28

She's been in a toddler bed for a few weeks so it's just a bigger version. She was fine. Too hot for a duvet at the moment, it gets very stuffy in there. So she's just got the duvet cover. Because of her tendency to try and suffocate herself with bedding it's best to keep it to a minimum!

HungryHorace · 27/08/2015 06:56

Somebody kill me now...DD's sleep has gone to pot the last couple of nights and she's been waking crying at least twice in the early hours. And DS has been tag teaming, so whereas DH would normally be the one that gets up, we've both had to get up to deal with them. I'm so tired. :-(

OP posts:
BeanCalledPickle · 27/08/2015 10:49

I am also dealing with two waking and being annoying at random times. Unfortunately those two are me and the baby. Juno is hitting the four month sleep regression in a BIG way. Waking at stupid times. Shouting. Refusing to nap. Leaving me minutes away from putting her out with the recycling. And then there is me. Also waking up all over the shop, sleeping badly, can't get back to sleep when she finally does. Hate it all right now!

And we have fucking rats in the garden. Thrilled about that.

cuphat · 27/08/2015 13:21

Pretends I haven't seen the bit about a four month regression.

Hope it improves soon for you both.

And the rats are just what you need, bean. Are they hard to get rid of?

It's our cats that are driving me mad. I feel bad but I can't cope with their constant need for attention at the moment.

BeanCalledPickle · 27/08/2015 17:01

I think everyone is struggling with broken babies at the moment. Mine isn't that broken she just wakes up twice instead of once at the moment. It's just me not being able to get to bloody sleep that's the bugger!

Rats- the council are coming to have a look tomorrow. They live next door and have burrowed through. I just feel like Polly shouldn't be in the garden until resolved though....

HungryHorace · 27/08/2015 17:21

Are they in the garden much? I don't know how likely they are to bite / attack. It's a difficult one though.

What have your neighbours got going on that's attracted them? Hopefully Environmental Health can put a stop to it, whatever it is.

OP posts:
BeanCalledPickle · 27/08/2015 17:45

They aren't likely to bite or attack and are most likely to run away if they hear us. But they do carry disease and are likely to have left poo and hair in the garden.

Next door is a whole other thread. Guy has dementia and is in his eighties. Has a live in carer who casually mentioned the rats when dropping off a parcel?!? Now it's my problem as they've clearly not addressed it. His declining mental health means he likes to shout obscenitys over the fence and on occasion has taken a running jump at it. And one day threw frozen mars bar at us over it. I'm trying to not let this get to me. Social services tell me he is unlikely to stay in his own home much longer.
