Our babies are rocking and rolling, crawling and climbing into the second half of their first year.

Let the fun continue...

I can't wait to have another baby :)

TeamEponine · 17/07/2015 17:21

Only planning on one here! But we decided that before even trying for DD. If we were younger, had a bigger house, earned more and if my job wouldn't suffer so much from time out, we might have considered a second one, but we are very happy with what we have Grin

It feels like it has been a very, very long week!

We have started phase two of sleep training. So far, so good.

cookielove · 17/07/2015 20:41

Omg E took his first steps tonight Grin so so proud!

FATEdestiny · 17/07/2015 21:35

tell us more about ur sleep training, team

ApplesTheHare · 18/07/2015 12:50

Aw Cookie that's amazing!!!

Well done on the sleep training front Team, we do a bit of it from time to time if it seems like dd's going backwards and it helps no end.

Acorncat · 18/07/2015 20:11

Back from a week away with no phone signal, didn't think parts of England still had that problem! Amazing how reliant you become on the Internet. Still, it was nice to buy newspapers, read books etc. Luckily the apartment was reasonably baby friendly so apart from pulling over a floor lamp and crapping on the carpet we had no incidents.
Absolutely no sign of walking here, even if we try and encourage it he immediately drops down to crawl. Can't blame him really, more effective that teetering then falling.

Undecided on another baby. I see so many families with squabbling and fighting children that it puts me off. If I knew they'd get on I'd be more keen! Plus I can't afford to work and pay childcare for 2.

Acorncat · 18/07/2015 20:18

And a happy holiday shot

Team tell us about sleep training,,, i have no help what soever right now on the night wake ups, but dh will be done with a deadline mid Sept and I look forward to start doing something about the sleep but not sure what...

Is anybody else getting expert in changing nappies in all different positions like crawling, cruising , rolling and standing? Any tips apart from toys and talking and singing which helps for about 5 seconds?

Nazly · 18/07/2015 22:16

Oh & I am in the same boat: would have loved to have two but left it too long for the first &:

  • ds was such a difficult baby , don't know how I can go through that again
  • if I leave it for a few years to forget this one then it would prob be too late
  • if I don't leave it for long then it would be a nightmare scenario of having two tiny babies; I honestly can't handle that and don't know how some can
  • cant afford two in nursery
  • can't afford to provide good opportunities for two probably

But- never say never... I keep saying that and am keeping the baby stuff that I really like too !!!!

FATEdestiny · 19/07/2015 13:05

Not so much nappy changing, but I find getting baby dressed a lot easier once they are standing. Much easier to sit child up to put a top on or stand them to put legs into bottoms. So while nappy changes are more wriggly, the pay off it easier getting dressed.

I don't have any answer to the wriggly nappy changes, I just tend to get faster. Get it over with as quickly as possible.

Regarding more children, without meaning any disrespect to the first time parents here, second, third, fourth children are a lot easier. They tend to thrive on shared attention rather than sole attention and are often much more content as a result.

With hindsight I think I enjoyed by third and fourth children best as babies. I made lots of mistakes with DC1 as a baby and then with DC2 went too far the other way. By the time I had DC3 and DC4 I'd found some happy middle ground.

acorn What a cutie...and so many teeth !

cookie Amazing news !

nazly Nappy changing times are a bit of a nightmare here too. The only thing that keeps J on the floor on his back is giving him a pack of (sealed) wipes to play with, and doing the change ultra fast. I think he likes the crinkling of the packaging, and will gladly spend a minute rustling the packet. Plus he probably knows he's not supposed to have them Smile.

No more children for me, although I keep thinking how weird it will be to take just one out on a trip. Not that having two was easier - they seemed to irritate eachother more than occupy eachother. I do have visions of J being a lone figure, sitting on the beach making a sandcastle on his own whilst huge families with hundreds of children play games around him. As much as they dote on him, my twins are just a bit too old for J to have a proper on-level sibling relationship with. But there is no way we will have more.

KitKat1985 · 19/07/2015 20:31

Lovely picture Acorn.

I used one of these the other day and was so good I'm thinking of getting one for nappy changes with Jessica as she's a nightmare for wiggling: www.nappy-time.com/

Topsyloulou · 19/07/2015 21:16

Love the idea of that kitkat but I have visions of DS crawling around the room with it strapped to his back, he's so determined to be on the go all the time! We also use the wipes as a distraction tool Jay. A few verses of old McDonald gives me a minute or two too. I'm frequently chasing him round the living room trying to do the last popper up, of course he thinks it's a great game!

lilone1234 · 19/07/2015 23:29

Oh the nappy time struggle! I remember when she just used to lay there and smile at me but now nothing will stand between her and the wipes! The edges of the packs are sharp though! She's given herself a fair few scratches.

How's teeth brushing going for you? DD was good to begin with when the first couple on the bottom came in but now she's got 3 in quick succession coming in at the top and has a massive kick off when I try and brush them now! Because she thrashes about so much I probably just prod her poor gums rather than brush any teeth!

We've been teeth brushing since 4 months but it's becoming more a challenge now. He'll sit for a couple of seconds but likes to stick his fingers in his mouth and then of course in his eyes. I don't want it to turn into a struggle but its difficult not to.

ApplesTheHare · 20/07/2015 16:28

DD loves brushing her teeth but I never brush them for her, only give her the brush with a bit of paste on and praise her loads for doing it!

FATE I'm sure you're right about subsequent children being easier. DD always seems easier when she's in a group with her older cousins.
