thisis am definitely with you on this one Sad. We had screaming for a couple of weeks and did resort to calpol a few times in case it was her teeth. I also got a bit worried about how long we could continue to give it to her so in the end checked her temperature and if it was ok, no calpol. Did quite a lot of rocking to sleep during that particular phase. ...

ladydolly · 22/05/2015 06:46

How is this baby still up at her normal time when she was awake for 3 hours in the middle of the night??

Pass the matchsticks please...

Thisisimpossible · 22/05/2015 07:20

Haha Ladydolly, I sympathise. DS was up at 5.30 despite doing the same.

Haven't, thank you for the sanity check. Two weeks....arrrrgh....but at least it stopped eventually!

haventgotaclue1 · 22/05/2015 08:18

Definitely thisis & like everything else, it stopped as abruptly as it started Smile

catg83 · 22/05/2015 09:01

We have started BLW last night. Dinner was fajitas so he got some cooked peppers and pieces of avocado. About 15 mins of squishing it round the highchair tray and then he did lots of gumming the peppers. Not into the avocado at all.

Melon this morning. Again very similar, lots of smooshing for 20 mins and then he worked it up his body into his mouth.

It is so fascinating watching him learn how to get it to him and taste it for the first time. x

happypotamus · 22/05/2015 09:40

She slept! Probably only because I had no resolve left and let her sleep with me nearly all night, but I feel like a different person after more than 2 hours sleep in a row. And, because she wasn't feeding all night, she ate lots of breakfast that she usually isn't interested in.

moggle · 22/05/2015 12:48

DD is also very much just smooshing, smearing and wiping her food! The only things that get extended time in or near the mouth have been rice cakes, tomatoes, peach, nectarine, melon, pear, mango, cheddar cheese. She likes things that dissolve in her mouth so carrot and a lot of other veg don't seem to do it for her at the moment. Last week she liked broccoli but not this week! I have managed to get her to take the wellbaby drops in a spoon of Greek yoghurt so am trying not to worry about what she's actually consuming! And of course she still has lots of milk.
Finding it hard to do dinner with her as we usually eat quite late and if I eat early with her I need another meal before bed! am wondering whether to try making some recipes for her but I feel she won't actually eat any and I'll just get irritated with the waste of time! Not too fussed about the waste of food as I personally think it's all a part of learning about the textures and I can already see how her dexterity has improved in just the two weeks since we started solids. Plus I just keep putting the gummed bits back on her high chair tray until they've been mooshed into nothing!

moggle · 22/05/2015 12:50

Ooh catg you've reminded me that DD liked roast pepper last week, maybe I'll try some of that later.

happy glad you had a good night. Sometimes you just get to the point where it's whatever it takes to get a decent rest... Plus I think it's much easier to tackle sleep stuff when everyone's had an ok night. If we have a bad night I tend to spend the rest of the day pushing DD round in the pushchair as I know she'll sleep and we can hopefully start afresh for the next night.

Arkkorox · 22/05/2015 13:02

Helloooo!

Sorry been Awol with all the drama this week. Haven't caught up quite yet but sounds like everyone's tucking into food nicely except my child who I'm sure will still be on just formula till she's 10

My best friend finished work for maternity leave last Friday, we planned a nice few days of lunches, spot of baby shopping and General relaxation. However was not to be as she went into labour on Tuesday morning and had her little boy at 5:45pm that day. We got to hospital at 4:15!!! However he's 2 weeks early and has an infection, the last couple of days have been hectic with possibly meningitis then possibly seizures but both ruled out thank god but he's in SCBU Sad

So Ive been ferrying her DH back and forth to hospital. If alls well they could be home Monday next week.

DDs sleep has gone backwards a bit, I honestly do think she needs more food but she's so not interested in solids at all yet. What do we think About a bottle of hungry baby milk before bed? She's draining an 8oz bottle when she wakes at 3 and that's with a top up at 10:30 Confused

TwigletFiend · 22/05/2015 13:20

Ark, hope your friends LO perks up and they make it home Monday. I'm sure they're very grateful to have help at such a stressful time, pat on the back for you! Will your DD take baby rice if you mix it up fairly runny, so it's not really a 'solid'? That might help keep her a bit fuller? I've never tried the hungry baby milk but worth a go, definitely sounds like she's peckish!

Can I ask how everyone is getting meat into their DCs? HV said to try giving DD meat at dinner as protein takes longer to digest and might help her sleep longer. But I don't know what form to give it in? No teeth as yet so she can only suck/gum stuff Confused

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 22/05/2015 13:40

Twiglet protein has def been what improved ds sleep he has chicken or fish pureed with veg so fish pie, chicken stew, roast dinner and as we are doing bit blw too he has fish on his high chair my husband makes fish goujons so easy for baby to hold and 4yr old loves them, will also try fish cakes. Cod loin is expensive but often on offer on Tesco fish counter if u r not good with skin n worry about bones, my husband is happy as he chops it to search out and bones I am not a fish fan so touch it as little as poss. Pollock and coley are cheap and make good goujons.

Baby still has this nasty cough and sore throat but not unwell enough for docs no high temp but having calpol as obv in discomfort.

haventgotaclue1 · 22/05/2015 14:00

Think dd wins the award for velcro baby today Confused - can't even turn my back and she starts grizzling...Hmm

catg83 · 22/05/2015 15:14

haven't we had that yesterday. Seems to be better today but god it gets tiresome!

haventgotaclue1 · 22/05/2015 15:34

Yup, I feel shattered catg83 Confused

MrsAukerman · 22/05/2015 15:52

No meat here at all! I'm veggie since birth and dh eats meat so we've decided to wait until he's vocal at least. He's had lentils or cheese or egg most days. Yesterday he tried fried egg, baked beans and cheese on toast (Blw fry-up!)
Sleep seems unchanged really since starting solids (Still crap)

Annarose2014 · 22/05/2015 20:09

I tried to give a bit of shredded chicken last night but he didn't really know what to do with it. We are offering finger foods like peppers and bread, but we're actually feeding him a mixture of pouches and things like sweet potato.

So we're getting protein in via the pouches. Lamb roast dinner, etc.

In the mornings we do porridge/Weetabix mixed with apple or pear.

We actually haven't tried eggs yet - I might try them tomorrow, good idea!

Annarose2014 · 22/05/2015 20:13

Sleep has definately improved here since DS stopped feeding after midnight. He is still waking twice or three times but only momentarily for the dummy.

I have hopes that now that he's not hungry at night he'll start sleeping through in the next month. We'll see!

But it took a month of two solid spoonfed meals a day. I think they have to eat quite a lot for it to make any difference.

MrsAukerman · 23/05/2015 07:14

I agree, one of my local mum friends is full-on blw too and they're 6 weeks ahead of me so very useful as a heads up. She reckons about week 5 he really startec packing it away. Her boy is a proper chunk though and much less active than mine.
Off to a local music festival today and tomorrow but sleeping at home. We've all had a crap night and I'm getting a sore throat so it should be interesting! Ds has little ear defenders to wear while at the festival - should be cute!

DD has been having baby rice once a day since Sunday, 3 days later and she has gone mad about any food and has lost interest about the baby rice. We are mainly giving her small bits of our food. So far she has had salmon sandwich, fried fish, chicken, creme fresh, bacon, strawberries, veggies and fruit. I am positively shocked how in few days she has gone from not having interest in food to chomping on everything she can get hold of. We basically been giving her bits of meat and fish of size of half penny and it goes all down.

Annarose2014 · 23/05/2015 12:56

Ooh dreadful reaction here to jabs. Horrendous night, he got a temp so lots of Calpol and cuddles, up at 5am for the day, and very clingy and tearful today. And naps every other hour. DH has now taken him out in the sling for a walk to give him some distraction & so I can have a shower and actually get dressed! Poor baba. He seems to be a lot better now though.

But its the Eurovision tonight so even sleep deprived I'm all excited!

Annarose2014 · 23/05/2015 12:58

Btw everyone, don't forget Aldi Baby Event on Thursday!!!

They have long sleeved feeding bibs! I got one on Ebay and its a lifesaver so I'm def getting more.

omama · 23/05/2015 15:53

BLW ladies do your dc pick food up off the highchair tray? I am putting stuff there for dd but she seems completely uninterested in picking it up/touching or squishing it. She will grab it if I hold it out to her but otherwise looks at it & chews her bib. Any tips?
Also how do you manage breakfast cereal eg porridge/weetabix? Do you preload the spoon or let them get stuck in with their hands? or are you opting for dry foods like toast/porridge fingers?

Anna yes we are in leap 6 at the moment. Maybe that is why her nights are so unsettled at the moment but i'm not entirely convinced! Still think the dummy is the culprit. That or she wants me to bring her in our bed.

On the plus side her naps finally seem to be extending. She's generally doing one nap of around an hour & another of 1.5-2hrs. Today excepted!

haventgotaclue1 · 23/05/2015 18:57

omama interested in your comment that your dc naps are becoming longer. In the last week since we've been following a new sleep / nap routine, dd has been napping in her cot bed for the first time since she was born Grin. But,IicI've got no idea what a "decent" length of time is for a nap nor how many she "should" have per day. The last week has been 4 naps per day of 30-40 minutes each. Is this what others have / are experiencing? (Dd will be 6 months at the end of May).

MrsAukerman · 23/05/2015 19:30

We have 2 or 3 naps of 40 mins. Back from first day of festival. Discovered this morning that we have a tooth!

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 23/05/2015 19:40

Sainsbury also do long sleeve vests in clothes section £3 each or £4 for gruffalo one but 25% off til Mon.

I recommend aldi nappies they do big cheap boxes at events.

Anna how come jabs are so late??

Omama we have been weaning a mth started at 5mths and ds now picks food up off highchair initially mushed it up or took if held out to him.

We also do some puree lamb and apricot tagine was a hit this evening, his fav has been fish pie I used expressed breast milk for white sauce.
