It's that time again. This thread is going to explode with squishy babies. Which is nice.

How's the landscape this morning Wotta?

The endless 'why?' conversations have started here. Anyone else?

OP posts:
Plonkysaurus · 10/05/2015 08:45

Oh dear Wotta, hope things being more cope-able quickly.

I'm a numpty and appear to have purchased two lots of car insurance. Ffs.

Eco no whys here yet thankfully but ds walked into the lounge yesterday and declared it a 'bloody mess' Hmm

yummychocolate · 10/05/2015 09:04

wotta sorry to hear you are feeling down. Hope it becomes more manageable soon for you.

eco we had our first "why" the other day. I said uh oh to myself.

These toddlers are just awesome.

StormyBrid · 10/05/2015 16:52

Still no whys here. I'm sort of looking forward to them, but when they happen I expect they'll rapidly drive me demented.

More good stuff:
Fartypants in a charity shop with the man today. He fishes out a Hello Kitty dictionary and asks what she thinks. Lady behind the counter says, "Oh, she won't be needing that for a couple of years." Fartypants takes the book, opens it, points to and sounds out each letter of the alphabet down the side. The man points at a random word and asks what it is. "A-n-t," says Fartypants, "says ant."

Stuff that sucks:
First stomach bug.

More good stuff: the man has excelled himself in his dealings with the vomit.

yummychocolate · 10/05/2015 20:38

Well done fartypants. I was so happy that ds is a clever clogs when he recognised some letters of the alphabet yesterday but fartypants has excelled herself.

Stomach bugs are yuck but on a positive note at least she is building up her immune system. Keep the bucket close to her ans give her water in a syringe.

How was everyone's weekend?

SomethingBeginningWith · 10/05/2015 20:42

The first time sickness bug has hit here too. He went to bed before 6pm and woke up an hour later. At least he was considerate enough to reach the bathroom. Poor little tyke. He's gone to bed with a cup of water and towels on his bed. Hope Fp is faring ok tonight.

DS is rubbish at all things letters. I'm starting to think his ears may be affecting his speech. It's all muffled, recognisable, but muffled, and DP had ear problems as a child. Might mention it to the hv.

SomethingBeginningWith · 10/05/2015 21:02

Scrap the considerate; that time was in his bed!

wotta how are you doing today?

StormyBrid · 10/05/2015 23:07

We had two complete bed changes due to sick last night. Half the menagerie had to be washed. She got me twice. Ended up curling up on the living room floor and going to sleep at two in the morning, with no Zebra and no dummy. Fine most of the day then she got me again just before tea. Plenty of coughing down the baby monitor but no definite sick sounds and she hasn't started calling for help, so fingers crossed for a better night tonight.

SomethingBeginningWith · 11/05/2015 04:46

9 wake ups so far Sad thankfully no full bed changes but pj changes each time and 1 pj change for me. Gave him syringes of water but they came straight back up. It's horrible to see them so poorly, isn't it?

Plonkysaurus · 11/05/2015 06:56

Hope both poorly babies are feeling a bit better this morning. Calpol is fine. Cot sicks sound awful Sad what a mess to have to clean.

Stormy ds won't have his dummy at all when he's got a sickness bug. It makes him gag and is so knackered he doesn't need it. Same for FP? Just curious really!

Anyone else finding MN to be a really not very nice place to be at the moment? The election result wasclearly divisive but bloody hell...

SomethingBeginningWith · 11/05/2015 07:15

I don't venture much further from this thread, so I wouldn't know Grin

No change this morning. It went up to 12 wake ups and he's now complaining that his bum hurts from all the diarrhea! Doctors phone call this morning.

worserevived · 11/05/2015 08:02

Huge sympathy, sickness bugs are miserable for everyone. Hard to avoid too, so I hope everyone in the house doesn't get it. The syringe technique only works if you give only the tiniest amount at a time, max 2ml, so aim for 10-20ml over 10mins.

Plonky the election result has brought out the very worst on here. I would have welcomed some interested educated debate before the election, but not the vile mud slinging afterwards. Plus half of what is written is utter rubbish. It's becoming a bit like the Daily Mail in that respect.

StormyBrid · 11/05/2015 10:53

I think the problem with the dummy is sucking it creates extra spit, which they swallow. And then it's in their tummies and everything that goes in there comes up again. So I wouldn't let her have her dummy. Protested for a couple of minutes at bedtime then went to sleep without. We had a lot of coughing fits overnight but no sick. She woke at 6am and asked for milk; gave her juice, denied calpol until after breakfast, and gave her her dummy back and said go back to sleep. Next coughing fit woke me at 10.15. Bum is okay but bits are a bit sore from the runs.

This place seems less compassionate since the election. The amount of people saying eg let's cut CB without considering the ramifications because no one should have kids they can't afford. Maybe it's my socialist lefty upbringing, but when did we get so mean?

Plonkysaurus · 11/05/2015 11:04

Yes I think the extra spit just gurgles round in their tummies and creates the whole feeling for them again. It sounds like FP's getting through it though. Hope you had some sleep!

I think tbf there are casualties on all sides. I agree with Worse, the mudslinging is just vile and mostly utter rubbish! I could almost feel my blood boiling when I saw a thread questioning if anyone had actually met any benefit scroungers, and then again on a thread discussing people joining parties (as I just have, for reasons I hope are clear), someone trying to whip us all up into storming parliament with a box of eggs.

But when it comes to CB I agree Stormy - I really think it should be a universal benefit (completely disagree with the cap being there at all). When we're servicing private debt with public taxes we must also invest in our youth - they'll be the ones paying our pensions.

Think I'll take a leaf out of Something's book and stick with the Marchers. Had a quick peek at the Novemberers and there's just so many of them. I think our merry band of mothers is far better Grin

worserevived · 11/05/2015 12:05

Plonky I similarly took a look at the Februaries, and thought Nah. I like our motley crew. We stick together whatever, and the kindness and support on here is kinda special.

Plus when I looked it was all sleepless nights, cluster feeding and general misery, and I'm firmly in the new babies are a piece of piss it's toddlers you need to worry about camp. I felt I wouldn't fit in Grin

New babies are easy though. Take today. The toddle is at nursery, DH is in London, and despite being home alone I have had time to meet with the bank manager, hang washing out, do ironing, drink Brew, MN, faff about and go for a walk. If the toddle was at home I'd have done, well, nothing really.

Speaking of home alone, come next week I'll be starting on the home alone with both phase of life as DH will be working away every week. That'll be interesting.

BettyBitesBums · 11/05/2015 12:05

Hi all,

Thanks for the new all-singing, all-dancing, full of positivity thread!

Eco, that's a great outfit. I think I used to have those very same shoes but completely destroyed them and replaced them with a pair of purple ones!

In the spirit of positivity we have here a gorgeous sunny and windy day great for drying is what I would say if I was, in fact, turning into my mother Grin We have a new cleaner which might just save our marriage. I've started tackling the garden but think I might need some industrial machinery and Madam is bloody hilarious. The other day I was telling her off for pushing the dog off the bed and asking her to say sorry only for her to say 'I can't say sorry Mummy, I left all my sorrys downstairs!'

I hope the poorly babies are on the up. I'm waiting for the first proper vomiting bug to hit here and not looking forward to it at all. I have absolutely no aversion to any other bodily fluid but really don't cope well with vomit.

Today is turning out to be a very expensive day, the car is in for a service and it turns out I've been driving on a sliver of brakes and a wing and a prayer for months Shock and I've just had to renew my insurance which is always a horror as we live in studentville where the burglary rate is horrendous because they all bugger off out with doors and windows open!

Happy Monday everyone.

StormyBrid · 11/05/2015 12:15

The CB thing I agree should have stayed universal, not just because it's for kids, but because it's for mothers and their NI contributions are made while they're on it. In some cases it's the only money a woman has, if her husband's a douche. And it means no one's penalised in their old age for staying at home with children. Eminently sensible thing. But take away the universality and it's just another thing that has to be cut to ensure the feckless are even less comfortable.

Anyway. Good stuff: no sick yet today. Hope I haven't just jinxed it.

Plonkysaurus · 11/05/2015 12:43

Worse I think my sister's experience has left me very jaded. And I don't want to read about slings and pushchairs and blw all over again. Those things seem so important at the time don't they! Tiresome though when that's not the headspace you're in.

Stormy I fink we have arrived at very similar pov's despite my very righty background. Can only assume that we both relied heavily on programmes like Captain Planet for entertainment as nippers. I wouldn't know what an environment was without that.

Betty cars can just eff off. I forgot to un-renew my insurance until I got an email thanking me for renewing. After finding a cheaper policy elsewhere. Grumble. But you're right, it's a sunny day here too so we'll be off for an amble in the park after lunch. Are you doing anything pretty to your garden? I've taken the lazy approach this year - my veg patch is getting delivered as a box of already grown mini plantlets that I just stick in the ground Grin

Shatteredmamma1 · 11/05/2015 12:55

Hi ladies Grin
Wow lots on. Sickness bugs are horrible so hope the poorly toddles are improving fast. Having said that I'm impressed that this is the first for some of you- we've def had at least 3 I think. And the toddle is snotty and grumpy today, think the pesky molars are reading their ugly heads again. He screamed the house down when I took him for an early nap but was asleep within minutes. Poor love.
nice outfit eco! When's the wedding/event ? can't remember which Shock
That's a good sentence betty! As well as being cute. You wonder where they get things from sometimes don't you?
I've also looked at the current post natal clubs and decided not to join. Similar reasons to you plonk/worse.
yummy when does the new job start? Is it the same job you were doing just full time?
Right. Off to post a couple of photos on FB if anyone wants to guess why....Grin

Plonkysaurus · 11/05/2015 18:48

WottaMess · 11/05/2015 20:08

Yy to poker face Shock! Grin

Ds wants an earring (like his dad). Reckoned on a few more years before that came up Wink!

yummychocolate · 11/05/2015 20:11

Congratulations shattered. I was at work when I got a notification of a pic you posted on fb and I was pleasantly surprised to see a beautiful baby. I have soo many questions for you so when you have a chance tell us all about it Smile

Get well soon to the ill toddlers. Bugs are grim.
