It's that time again. This thread is going to explode with squishy babies. Which is nice.

Plonky I'm hoping that festival is only roughly in my neck of the woods, and not actually right bang beside me as we're having some fairly impressive thunder storms here today, and are due to have a month's rainfall in one big deluge. It's lot of fun.... from the safety of the dry side of the window.

Shatteredmamma1 · 15/08/2015 10:47

Good question plonk. I think that they are fairly similar as babies so far, but DS1 is not the toddler I would have predicted from how he was as a baby IYswim? Will be interesting to see if DS2 is as crazy as DS1 is when he's a toddler!!
How is everyone?

yummychocolate · 15/08/2015 19:27

shattered I know what you mean. I always thought ds will stay calm and quiet like he was as a baby now he is just the opposite. If you think about it how much of it is all normal child development and how much of it is personality?

yummychocolate · 16/08/2015 11:27

How is everyone getting on with potty training? We have had 5+ accidents this morning. I think ds isn't ready yet.

StormyBrid · 16/08/2015 12:11

Fartypants is insistent that she's staying in pull ups for now. Nothing I can do to force it so pull ups it is.

One thing I like about having a niece so close by and so close in age to FP is seeing them developing the same skills but in different ways. Like talking. The littlest niece has been doing long strings of English-sounding gibberish, and more and more recognisable words are popping up in there. FP, on the other hand, never did the strings of gibberish, she just used the few words she knew over and over and gradually increased their number. It's fascinating.

Just constructed an oaty crumble. Will report back this evening on whether it works.

SomethingBeginningWith · 16/08/2015 15:57

DS is doing really well with potty training. We've had a few days of no accidents but today he decided to mark his territory at the top of a slide. He doesn't want to wear nappies or pull ups anymore so there's no going back. He loves showing off on the potty too, wants everyone to watch Grin

BettyBitesBums · 16/08/2015 19:10

We're not potty training yet, madam just isn't ready. She won't tell us when she needs a wee and she hates sitting on the toilet or potty. At nursery they ask her every day but she always answers with a very polite "no thanks, I want to wee in my nappy" and that's that. I've decided to just leave it until she decides unless we're still here this time next year when I'll try to force the issue!

I'm down at my parents in the glorious East Midlands for a few days waves to plonk and something while DH revises and we stay out of his increasingly grumpy way! I'm wondering if I can stretch the remaining one outfit and 5 nappies until Wednesday as we were meant to go home today and have already failed at that. Oops.

Stormy let us know how the crumble is. I bloody love crumble. The only problem is I tend to have more custard than crumble and often a small ice cream topping too. I Still can't be totally sure why my waistline is ever expanding though!

Eco I'm trying to book somewhere in Norfolk for 4 nights in September with madam and dog, preferably a cottage/house/static caravan I think. People keep saying around Wells is incredibly dog friendly so I'm aiming for there but if you have other ideas please give me a nudge in the right direction!

StormyBrid · 16/08/2015 19:15

Sounds very familiar, Betty. FP will try the potty at nursery, but at home every suggestion is met with, "No thanks, I need to wee in my pants." There's not much you can say to that, except praising the manners!

Crumble was delicious. I am extremely tempted to have another bowl. I've made two crumbles today, my brother made two on Tuesday, I made one last weekend, and the bush in the front garden is still covered in brambles, and it would be a dreadful shame to waste them...

yummychocolate · 16/08/2015 22:26

something ds doesn't like nappies now after the freedom of wearing thomas pants this morning. He keeps bringing me a nappy to change him into even though his nappy is slight wet.

I forgot to tell you all my horrible story. 3am in the morning when everything was silent and windows were open I heard my neighbour having sex. They were at it again at 5am. I need to sleep with cotton wool in my ears tonight. Shock

Plonkysaurus · 17/08/2015 07:46

You've just made me glad I live next door to old folks Yummy Grin quite alarming frequency, that. Maybe they're furiously ttc?

Well hello Betty. Something and I are going for a walk this morning. You should come!

Potty training isn't really happening here either. He sits on the potty now and then, sometimes does a wee and gets a ridiculous amount of praise, but mostly he's not ready. Shame as at this rate I think I'll have two in nappies but so be it. I'd rather do it once and be done and dusted in a couple of weeks because he's actually capable of doing it.

Had a lovely weekend without dh (haha). I went to Birmingham to see old friends and had a huge meal and some very yummy ice cream. I really want to move back there. But now I must away to the shower.

StormyBrid · 17/08/2015 11:17

I believe yummy has just discovered the reason I've lived next to single mad cat ladies for the past nine years!

BettyBitesBums · 18/08/2015 15:16

Shitbags, I didn't check back in Plonky, I could definitely have come! Next time!

I've converted the cot into a toddler bed today and am terrified. If she gets out of bed and wanders the upstairs there's alsorts of damage she could cause herself. What do the rest of you do about this? I don't really fancy a stair gate on the bedroom door but worry about the bath/lamps/plugs/heavy stuff/golf clubs and everything else that's in the other upstairs rooms with doors that can be opened with a decent push!

StormyBrid · 18/08/2015 16:03

We do the stairgate on the door thing, mainly so she doesn't go falling down the stairs and interrupting my beauty sleep. Not sure we really need it though, she took to the big girl bed so well. The test was last week, when she had to sleep in a normal bed at her grandma's. Didn't get out of bed at all! Every night we reiterate the "must stay in bed" message, occasionally enhanced with the "no dicking about or I'll be very very cross" message, and by some amazing stroke of luck, it works.

So this Pilates thing. Turns out I'm actually supposed to have muscles lurking somewhere beneath my vast rolls of stomach! Who'd have thunk it?

yummychocolate · 19/08/2015 07:43

Happy birthday for yesterday plonky. Did you have a good day?

Plonkysaurus · 19/08/2015 11:02

D'oh Betty, we'll have to be more organised next time. How's DD getting along with the bed?

We don't have a stair gate upstairs at all. Except the one that's been sat in a box for 6 weeks waiting for DH to set it up. I'm a bit panicky with a drill so it's up to him, but he's very good at not doing some housey things. Anyway, DS's door doesn't close properly because it's ancient and about 5mm thicker with paint than it should be. Most nights he appears at my bedside with all the soft toys in the world, but I actually find this preferable to standing in his cot shouting, as I just lift the duvet a bit and he gets in.

Thanks Yummy. It was ok. Birthdays are a bit meh when you're not five anymore, aren't they? DH had to be reminded to fetch cake and I was totally insane somewhat hormonal. Always nice to get scribbly cards and sloppy kisses from DS though.

We've decided to cut naps right down. Days he sleeps an hour plus he's up at 5.30 am and a bugger to get to bed in the first place. Days he sleeps 30 mins he's straight down at 7 and up at 7. Nursery have been totally on board with this - Yummy was it your nursery who wouldn't wake a sleepy toddler? Ours said DS was one of the few his age on unrestricted naps until this week!

Oh and just seen midwife. Bungle's a big 'un....uhoh!!

BettyBitesBums · 19/08/2015 21:27

Plonk and Stormy, I just noticed that both of your names are on the hacked list of mumsnet names (the thread is on chat). I think the general gist of what to do was to change your password and make sure if you use the same password for anything else to change that too. Stupid hacking wankers.

StormyBrid · 19/08/2015 22:11

Yep, we both were made aware early this afternoon. I've spent far too much time since then changing every password I've got just in case. Plonk checked for us all I think, and it was only us two, but still, a timely reminder to us all to keep our internets secure. Will be a bit paranoid to be posting on here for a while though, probably. It's rather uncomfortable, knowing someone with malicious intent has had full access to my account for an unspecified period of time. Confused

ecofreckle · 21/08/2015 00:26

Gah. I missed loads then couldn't log in for ages then couldn't reset password then couldn't find thread for first time ever Shock

stormy and plonk that sounds rubbish. And I'm sad about Worse.

I'm not in my own bed tonight. Again. Sigh. But will try to resume normal service soon. I do hope you're all okay.

My news can be summarized as "we have been frozen" and I'm fed up of the "you be Anna and I'll be elsa" game. More sighs.

OP posts:
Plonkysaurus · 21/08/2015 06:52

Eco it's all good - Anna's way better than Elsa anyway.

BettyBitesBums · 21/08/2015 20:01

Why sad about Worse? What have I completely failed to notice missed?

suffolkpunch85 · 26/09/2015 23:04

Ive been following this thread as a silent participant since it started, my boy was born 01/03/13- have I missed a new thread? Promise I will be more active rather than silent stalker!

Lavri · 28/09/2015 20:30

Me too Suffolk but only posted a few times under a different name. Have been wondering if I missed something too!
