Hi ladies, here is a thread to get us started. The support of other 'Maysters' has been so valuable, would hate to miss out on this once babies arrive. I have a feeling we are still going to have lots of questions and experiences to share! Smile

A sleepyhead is a sleep positioner-I have the cheaper version called a ClevaSleep!! Helps ensure they don't roll over Grin

I was saying to DHast night when he commented DD frequently likes to be rocked to sleep that at least we have ways of getting her to sleep!!!

applecore0317 · 14/06/2015 22:49

this is a sleepyhead longest

we bought one as she keeps rolling on her side and it freaks me out a bit...

That looks so comfy, like a cosy little nest. Do they come in adult sizes?!

I wish piglet, that would be awesome!!

It's great Tori, going to move the crib back into our room tomorrow amd try to use it in there. She's currently in the moses basket next to our bed

minimooo · 15/06/2015 09:01

I've heard great things about the sleepy head. Not used it myself, but my cousin did and her baby loved it.

longest I completely agree - i find that rod for your own back stuff quite unhelpful. Babies need to know that you're there whenever they need you. They're completely helpless without us which must be very frightening.

hope everyone had a good night?

applecore0317 · 15/06/2015 09:17

Her in it :) Going to practise moving it from bed to crib today without disturbing her...

Hello ladies! Sorry i am so late to get on this bus, but i had a stubborn little lady that wanted to be 15 days overdue :) She is a week old today and i am in complete awe of her. I am so in love and it is the most incredible feeling in the world......ok BIRTH STORY! AHHH.

So i was told to go into the hospital on Sunday the 7th to be induced. Me and DP were led to the ward and were told someone would be with us soon. (This was at 2pm) After many hours waiting we were finally told at 7.30pm that there was no room on any of the wards and that i was not going to be induced today and that i would have to stay overnight and maybe i would be induced tomorrow. If i decided to go home i would love my bed and space.

At 5.45am on Monday the 8th of June a midwife informed me i had been given the go ahead and i was to have all my obs done to ensure i was well and baby was doing well. I was dehydrated and told to drink lots, but apart from that we were both well. The Propess was put in at 7.30am and the waiting game began.

DP arrived at 9am and we watching some Sons of Anarchy and Game of Thrones to keep us amused and then i decided to walk to the gift shop to see if i could speed things up. At about 2ish i was getting irregular contractions, some 10 minutes apart, some 6 minutes apart. The midwife brushed them off as tightenings from the propess.

By about 5pm i was experiencing contractions every 4 minutes apart so the midwife put me on the ECG monitor and told me what all the numbers and stuff meant. The highest 'number' the contraction could go up to on the machine was 127 and at '0' my body was resting. So for about 30 minutes i visually watched my contractions on the screen increasing and decreasing.

Unfortunately after about 45 minutes the propess caused my uterus to become irritable and i was experiencing contraction on top of contraction. I was watching the numbers on the machine go up to 127 then down to 89 then up to 127 then down to 74...etc. I had no break in between contractions and at this point i was crying and hyperventilating as i could not catch my breath. Midwife tried to perform an internal exam but it was absolutely excruciating and my whole body began shaking through the pain. DP was in tears at this point Midwife removed the propess and gave me some Pethidine at about 6.30ish.

I was coping ok for a couple of hours until the drug wore off and i was in complete agony again, i was crying begging for an epidural and saying i couldn't do this anymore. Luckily there was a space available for me on the delivery suite and at about 9ish they wheeled me down and told DP to pack everything up and meet us in the room. By the time he got there i had fully abused the Gas and Air and found it tremendously fun. I felt drunk and it really really helped with the pain, DP found this hilarious how i went from absolute agony to singing to the radio in less than 20 minutes.

Midwife decided to break my waters at 10pm and informed me that we would just wait and see what happens and that i might have to have the drip at around midnight if things didn't get moving. At 11 she told me to get off the bed, if i wanted, and try sitting on the birthing ball. I somehow managed to get off the bed and sit on the ball, only to have another huge gush of waters go everywhere and almost immediately i felt the biggest urge to poo EVER. I was 100% sure i was about to have a massive bowel movement as i felt like my bowels were contracting. So my partner and mum carried me back to the bed while they buzzed for the midwife who was out of the room making tea for everyone ha!

She came back in and i was screaming i needed to push, this was at about 11.15/11.25pm and she told me to put my legs in the stirrups and she would have a look. 'Ok, well i think baby will be here in a few pushes.' DP started crying as he realised it would all be over soon, i just started to push harder than i ever had and i started to feel the dreaded burn 'down there'. I then stopped pushing and asked 'Was that it? Is she here' to which everyone replied 'No'. Wow i was gutted haha. So i carried on pushing and not much was happening even though the head was crowning. The midwife said she would have to make a cut, to which i just pushed even harder and forced this little head out. This caused me to have 2nd degree tears but i just wasn't thinking at the time. Then i hit the energy wall and started saying i couldn't do any more and that i was too tired. DP told me that he could see her head and that she was almost here, so i pushed soooooo hard and within seconds her little body slid out onto the bed and she let out the tiniest little wimper and just had a little look around.

At 11.46pm she was finally here. Most painful experience but the best thing i have ever done in the world. She is a beautiful little girl and i am so lucky that she had latched on so well and breast feeding is going amazingly. We were discharged exactly 24 hours later as she had meconium in the womb, but all is well!

Sorry for the essay, but i never skip details haha :D

Chookford · 15/06/2015 19:23

leanne wow what a birth story!! Sounds like a bit of a roller coaster but glad Imogen is finally here! (Think Imogen is correct?) enjoy your snuggles they are the best!!

applecore0317 · 16/06/2015 20:27

Wow leanne, that's one hell of an arrival!

applecore0317 · 17/06/2015 02:28

When the batteries run out on Euan... and the stupid design means you need a screwdriver to put new ones in sob

avocadotoast · 17/06/2015 03:14

I am super late to this party but please may I join? DD was born 23rd May (a week overdue) so she's 3 weeks old now and thriving. Feel like I may need something to read/post on when I'm in the middle of early hours feeding frenzy!

applecore0317 · 17/06/2015 09:03

Hi avocado congratulations :)

minimooo · 17/06/2015 10:19

Hi avocado and leanne! Smile

Chookford · 17/06/2015 13:33

Hi avocado congrats and welcome!

longestlurkerever · 17/06/2015 18:17

Welcome avocado!

Dh goes back to work tomorrow and dd1 is at nursery till 3:15 so it's just the two of us for the first time. Can't decide between lazy day in or cafe adventure (either just us or a mums and babies meet up). also seem to have a million phone calls to make. We aare contemplating a loft extension and the admin is putting me off more than the expense and disruption (lazy emoticon)

Chookford · 17/06/2015 21:54

longest my dh goes back to work Tuesday and I'm starting to panic about doing everything by myself! Sad it's been so nice having him to help out do a lot of things I haven't felt up to!
I'm would always go with a lazy day myself! Wink

applecore0317 · 18/06/2015 03:37

Mine had a day back to eork yesterday and then is back properly on Monday. Wasn't too bad yesterday as I had plans, but not looking forward to the first full week.

I would opt for lazy day for the first day Smile

KittyVonCatsington · 18/06/2015 08:29

Hi avocado and congratulations!! Flowers We also have a much busier secret Facebook group. If you fancy joking, just PM me the email address you use to log into FB and I'll email an invite link.

You'll all be fine when DHs go back to work-he thought is worse than the reality! I just make
Sure I have one activity per day-usually a baby class like singing or sensory per day to get me out the house!

KittyVonCatsington · 18/06/2015 08:30

Joining not joking! Blush

Chookford · 18/06/2015 10:45

Has anyone found around day 14 that their baby has turned into a scream machine?! Mabel has been an angel up until yesterday then she turned! I seem to remember Nellie doing this around the two week mark too but I can't be sure, just wondering if it's a common thing or I'm just in for a rough period with her! Hmm

longestlurkerever · 18/06/2015 11:17

chook Beth is v unsettled and clingy today too. She is fine cuddled up with me but won't be put down. Lazy day it is! Have to get dd later and she needs new shoes so that will be outing enough.

applecore0317 · 18/06/2015 12:38

Not so much screaming chook, apart from a couple of occasions, but definitely a lot more clingy. Plus growth spurts are causing random cluster feeds.

applecore0317 · 18/06/2015 17:09

spoke to soon... screaming most of today Confused
