Hi ladies, here is a thread to get us started. The support of other 'Maysters' has been so valuable, would hate to miss out on this once babies arrive. I have a feeling we are still going to have lots of questions and experiences to share! Smile

Had a windy smile this morning too - it was lovely, like a little glimpse of things to come. Smile

DH went back to work today, boo, but my mum kindly came round for a couple of hours (and made me lunch, bless her) so I haven't been too lonely. Was feeling really miserable about the end of paternity leave last night, so I'm counting my blessings now Smile

Bazza2 · 26/05/2015 15:44

Hi all. Still on ante natal thread but joining in here too now. Lovely lovely Angus is now five days old. We got home yesterday evening and had a bit of a traumatic night with no sleep (DP's first night with him) but trying to sleep as much as we can while Angus does. The midwife came and weighed him and he's lost 9.9% of his body weight so we are just about ok but I'm having to really get on top of his feeding. He mostly does ok in that department so I hope he gains it back quickly. He's an absolute delight and I still can't quite believe he's mine. Squirted the poor bugger in the eye earlier trying to squeeze a drop out to wake him for a feed and laughed so much my wobbling post-section jelly belly woke him up anyway.

Going to catch up on this thread properly now.

Scottishgal78 · 26/05/2015 17:34

Aw Bazza I know what you mean. I just stare at Innes and can't believe he's mine. It's like he's always been here though!

LinaDee · 28/05/2015 12:46

TMI ALERT!!!

I've totally fallen away from this since DS was born but I'm in desperate need of some help/advice!!
My DS will be 4 weeks on Sunday and all of a sudden I'm having problems whenever I need to go to the toilet. BMs are quite painful - causing a sharp stabbing pain. I remembered some advice about holding a pad against your perineum when you need to go to help and this has helped a little. Could my stitches be infected this long after giving birth or is it likely to be something else??

KittyVonCatsington · 28/05/2015 19:38

I don't think your stitches are infected but best get checked out Lina - my BMs are also very painful-I still haven't got my rhythm back and the stiches do hinder somewhat. I've been taking Lactilose still and using moist toilet wipes x

KittyVonCatsington · 28/05/2015 19:40

Bazza I chuckled reading your post! I too have woken up Sarah by giggling too much-DH often makes it worse by calling out 'milkshake'!!!

plinkyplonks · 29/05/2015 02:14

minimooo Oh my god, just read your birth story. How terrifying! You are so, so brave! lots of hugs

I am slowly catching up with the thread and reading everyone's birth stories! Congratulations to everyone for making it through!

So, so, so very tired right now! Lil beanie though is over 10 weeks old - weigh in day tomorrow, exciting times! Here's hoping she's reached 8lbs!

cuphat · 29/05/2015 08:29

Just to let those of you not on fb know that baby James arrived by ELCS on Tuesday morning, weighing 8lb 12oz. He's doing great and already feeding like a pro (very different to DD!). Absolutely in love with him!

minimooo · 29/05/2015 13:53

Hello! Been awol for a few days, but just caught up with the thread.

Congratulations cuphat! Hope you're healing up well and enjoying all those baby snuggles.

Thanks plinky, it was a truly horrible experience but I'm hoping some counselling will help to sort it all out in my head. Not sure I could ever contemplate a second one though! Good luck with the weigh in, let us know how you get on.

Sorry I can't help lina because I had an emcs. Sounds like it would be a good idea to get it looked at by a gp? Btw, my dd will be 4 weeks on Sunday too!

Hope you've managed to get a bit of sleep bazza. Emmie lost about 9% weight in her first week too, but then she sky rocketed upwards and is now putting on almost a pound a week! So they can turn it around pretty quickly. When's your next weigh in?

Emmie is having loads of awake time now. She's so alert, looking all around at everything. She turns her head if she hears me or dh and she's started following moving objects around with her eyes too. She cries real tears now, and we're seeing a few more real smiles. It's so amazing to watch all these tiny changes happening every day. Feel really blessed to have her in our lives Smile

KittyVonCatsington · 29/05/2015 21:21

Congratulations cuphat Flowers

Anyone else battling the evening blues?!?! Grin

FeelingBlessed77 · 29/05/2015 21:36

I am tonight kitty. DF has gone out and I'm having real problems settling Thomas. xx

catnip85 · 29/05/2015 21:39

Yep Evie is screaming blue murder here. There's just no pleasing this bub tonight!

minimooo · 29/05/2015 23:24

Same here. Emmie has been awake for 3 hours now. All our babies must have synched!

Completely forgot to say earlier: anyone suffering with colicky babies, the Dr brown bottles are amazing. It took about 24 to 48 hours to notice the difference, but my god what a difference it's made. Emmie doesn't have nearly as bad trapped wind now. I would really recommend them.

Bazza2 · 30/05/2015 06:02

Angus is the same, awake for three hours til about midnight. He always seems to get bad trapped wind at that time - and pretty much only that time. We are breastfeeding, so no bottles (yet), any tips? Tried the over shoulder/tiger in a tree/cycling tricks, and they don't really seem to work much.

Scottishgal78 · 30/05/2015 08:52

bazza are you on the fab group. I posted a link to a forum I found. Read what 'Julia' says and try it. Totally works - although I found how she says to hold him a bit awkward so I just hold Innes facing me under the armpits with my fingers supporting his head. Just make sure he is totally straight and then count to 60 or 120. Innes just writhes then burps on his own!

Bazza2 · 31/05/2015 00:10

Thanks scottish! I've been trying to get him to sleep for three hours now. I'll pass out long before he does at this rate.

minimooo · 31/05/2015 04:09

Oh no, bazza, hope you got some sleep eventually. Have you tried infacol? That helps Emmie a lot too.

teachermummy2b · 31/05/2015 06:01

Hi everyone, my boy was born on tues (26th) by elcs. Smile Smile
He is a very sleepy baby, and on our first night at home he would not feed at all between 11 & 6. Since then he's been having formula top ups from a syringe. Hubby and I were arguing last night as he is fed up of syringe feeding and thinks we should use bottles instead. I'm just really worried that if we start giving formula in a bottle I wont be able to bf Sad Sad My milk hasnt come in yet, so I dont want to give up before then...

So, ladies who are topping up with formula - are you using bottles for this? If so, has it made babies less inclined to feed from the breast??

catnip85 · 31/05/2015 09:01

Hi teacher congratulations! Evie had newborn jaundice so since day 3 we gave her some formula as a top up in a bottle. My milk hadnt come in at that point so we only offered her the bottle after each breastfeed so as not to interfere with supply and demand. She took to it quite easily and it hasn't affected breast feeding at all. We just gradually cut down the bottles over the wks as her condition improved and I produced more milk

Bazza2 · 31/05/2015 09:44

mini we are going to get some today I think. It's always that time from about 9/10 til 12/1 that he is like that, he's fine the rest of the time. But the screaming and his poor sad little face. ..... might try gin for us both tonight. Babies like gin, right?

Congratulations teacher!

Scottishgal78 · 31/05/2015 12:11

minimoo ginGrin

Innes us the same. Always that late feed he really suffers. I think it's a build up of wind throughout the day.

KittyVonCatsington · 31/05/2015 18:00

Congratulations teacher Marvellous news!
If it helps, I always offer both boobs to DD first then bottle for top up since day 4. She is three weeks now and still happily has both xx We use the Mam bottles which have worked best for winding (along with Scottish's technique above which is ace!)

Still, not liking what I call the witching hour. Between 7pm and 10pm every night now, DD is just so hard to settle-far too alert!!!!

teachermummy2b · 31/05/2015 20:51

Thanks catnip & kitty that is reassuring! we have the mam bottles and he seems to get on ok with those. Today ive ordered a habermans bottle as this is m eant to be similar to the breast... tbh as long as he is feeding at all that is the main thing really Grin x
