Apparently the other thread is closed. How're nappy explosions going?
Baby bought up a little bit, but I thinks it's because she had a total of 9oz in an hour.

BreastFeeding roughly every 2 hours during the day still!
But sometimes can be after just 1 hour... Maximum 2.5 hours.
Guzzles first 5 minutes then just lies there...falling asleep. Has been gaining weight so that's all good.

Lot of grandparent pressure to formula feed and start weaning... Grr she's 15weeks!

Pesto11 · 23/04/2015 21:24

Poor you bigfam
I hate lack of sleep! I can cope without food and water but I neeeeed my sleep!

LittlePink · 23/04/2015 21:34

I weaned dd at 5.5 months. She wasn't ready before then. When I did try the first time she hadn't lost her tongue thrust so had to wait another few days then she managed to swallow some puree instead of expelling it all out like she did the first time. I hated weaning at the time but looking back it wasn't all that bad. I just didn't know what to expect and thought at times she'd never crack it. She eats like a horse now so I needn't have worried so much. It's quite a lot of fun if you don't stress out too much. Very very messy though! I had a little chart from cow and gate where I documented what I'd tried her on and if she liked it or not and its a nice record for her to keep in her special box to look at when she's older. If you register with all the brands on their websites they send you free vouchers and information packs which is where I got that chart from. So like Ella's kitchen, plum, organix etc. I think we're all some way off weaning yet though!

September60b · 24/04/2015 07:35

It's weird but dd doesn't ever really 'ask' to be fed anymore. I feed her when she wakes from her naps, and depending on how long she's on I might try and feed her again after she's been changed and had some playtime. She's always been a really short feeder too (5-10 mins max) so it does worry me that she seems disinterested in the boob. She's so distracted when she feeds now too , especially if I'm wearing a patterned top! She tends to feed around every 3 hours during the day still but only because I force her.

Naps are still difficult. It's almost like she hates the feeling of being tired and dropping off to sleep. I made a real effort to catch her before she got too tired but it didn't make any difference. The only time she dropped off to sleep happily was in her pushchair when we were out. Such a turnaround as she used to hate it!

bigfam · 24/04/2015 10:30

Same here with the pushchair sept, she would scream until I'd got her out before but now she loves being in there, if I put her in there just as she's falling asleep she'll settle in there I use the white noise for myself now!

September60b · 24/04/2015 12:47

Grin bigfam, I'm quite partial to the white noise too!

littlepink Ranitidine dosages go by weight so as DS gains weight you'll need to up the dosage. I used to remember how to calculate the dosage but I've forgotten. I must have written it down somewhere, i'll have a look. I know I keep banging on about it but if his symptoms don't improve I really would recommend going dairy free. I'm back on dairy now as DS is fine but have gone dairy free. DD2 still is. It really isn't as bad as I first feared as there are lots of dairy free alternatives nowadays. I must admit though cutting out cheese was a killer. I am a big cheese fiend.

Re weaning I will be doing DS at 6 months. I did DD1 at 6 months (baby led) and it was brilliant. Had to do DD2 early at 17 wks due to peads advice for her reflux. They wouldn't let me do it earlier than that. Had to wait 17wks on the dot. As it was early had to do all the pureeing and I hated it. Much prefer the baby led method. I don't mind a bit of pureeing here and there but got so bored of having to do loads of batch cooking of mush. Not for me. Both DD'S are fab eaters now despite being weaned completely differently so I don't think it matters how you go about it. I just prefer the lazy approach Grin

Elizadoesdolittle · 24/04/2015 21:57

ikkleme Do you live in this country? I guess different countries have different weaning guidelines but I am really surprised that a HV would say you could give solids from birth.

Dec1314mummy · 24/04/2015 23:27

Well Ds and dd had dietician appointments today and I was told to start weaning Dd next week at 17 weeks dut to her reflux. Obviously start small and go from there. Puréed veg to begin with. It was the same with Ds. Ds had a lot of reactions to things though so it worries me to try different things!
Dd had her jabs yesterday and seems to have a bit of a temperature today. Will just have to keep and eye I think.
little you need to check the concentration of the renitidine you have been given (most are 150mg per 10ml) which would mean the formula would be 1-3mg x babies weight in kg/150 x 10. So the lowest dosage is worked out on 1 and highest is 3.
E.g dd is now about 7.5 kg so it would be
(1 x 7.5) /150 x 10= 0.5 so this is the lowest dose 3 x a day or
(3 x7.5) /150 x10 = 1.5 is the highest 3 x day.
Don't hold me to this it's just what I was told with Ds.

bigfam · 25/04/2015 06:14

God what a maths lesson just to help out some of your gorgeous babies, lucky there's teachers about Grin
We had a good night last night, 9pm till 5.45am. I'm pretty sure all of my others were sleeping through the night by now Hmm
She just looks so angelic on the nights she decides to stay awake, she doesn't actually cry, just lays next to me kicking like mad and laughing everytime I look at her, so cute. Dreary day here, I love the sun!

Pesto11 · 25/04/2015 07:49

We've had a couple of 9.30-5 nights but back to 10-3 last night!
I think I'll start weaning after dd is 6 months. No point starting the stress earlier if I don't need to!
Can't believe it's jabs time again next week...16 weeks wow!
Rememver Xmas and New Year's Eve and wondering when babies would arrive? Then came along dec's dd!
Did rolling over onto her side a lot more now.

bigfam · 25/04/2015 07:54

My lo was due the 1st of Feb but she snuck her way in at the end of Jan, I was expecting her earlier but I carried her longer than any of the others, if/when I have no.5 no doubt I'll go over!

We've got 12 week jabs Wednesday, I hope the nurse isn't so rushed this time.

pesto you're right! Where on earth has the time gone! Crazy crazy times! I keep looking at Ds and thinking dd will be at that stage in 1 year and then look at dd and think Ds was like that a year ago! It's gone sooooo fast.

LittlePink · 25/04/2015 19:50

Thanks dec. I need to get him weighed. It's been over a month. Think I was there every week with dd. bit more lax with ds!

Tried ds with a bottle again today. No go. He went nuts. Dh tried while I took dd out this morning. When I got home he was still battling and poor ds was in a right old state. Screaming his heart out. I couldn't stand by and listen to it so popped him on the breast and he was happy again. Tried again later and it was the same story. Think I'm going to be bfing forever! I need a little bit of leeway for a break here and there. I wanted to go for a pimms night in a few weeks but that won't be happening if he won't take a bottle and Dh got me a massage at a nice hotel as a birthday present so I won't be able to go for that either any time soon. I feel a bit trapped. Keep trying I suppose and hope he takes a bottle soon!

Pesto11 · 25/04/2015 20:36

Are you trying formula or expressed breast milk in the bottle?

I'm thinking of expressing soon cz I'm feeling trapped too!
I've breast fed in cafés twice now and can't say I feel too comfortable ... It's not too bad, I just get all stressed out that she's gna need a feed any minute, and now she needs a feed, quick find somewhere... I know that I need to chill out!!!

LittlePink · 25/04/2015 20:50

I left the ebm out to thaw for Dh to give while I was out but gave formula instead. So after that didn't work, we tried the ebm later in the day and ds was the same with that too. I got a nuk bottle with a latex teat as that was the only one that worked when dd refused a bottle when she was a baby and I really thought it would do the trick nicely as nuk is supposed to be the best for the most stubborn bottle refuser but looks like my ds is even more stubborn than the most stubborn! Dh seems to think it was a full on battle with dd too but I remember it differently, thinking she took the nuk no problem but he said it was an outright battle of wills even with that. I don't know. I just want a little bit of freedom, not much, just a little!

September60b · 25/04/2015 21:09

I'm going to try expressing and giving dd a bottle soon too as it makes me a bit nervous that she is so reliant on me. I'm not sure I've got it in me to persevere if she won't take it though. Maybe I should leave the house for a bit and leave dh to it!

Alyx80 · 25/04/2015 21:32

I keep thinking I should try Q with a bottle but I'm far too lazy! I have 4oz expressed in the freezer for an emergency though lol.
Q is now refusing to feed unless he's hungry which is a new thing for me! I've always just stuck my boys on the boob if they are crying and they comfort suck or feed to sleep but Q just screams angrily at me!

Bad night here last night, the first in a while so I can't complain too much, just hoping for better tonight. He's just about gone to sleep now so am going to try and put him down then shower and bed for me!

Pesto11 · 25/04/2015 21:40

The midwives said she was stubborn when she was a couple of hours old so I don't know what she will be like!
I don't mind breastfeeding all day and night most days but I just want her to occasionally take a bottle when we go out so I'm hoping she won't scream the house down when we try a bottle - haven't got the energy to try different teats etc
We shall see, gna try next week ...

Boobs are rock hard and painful if/when we miss the 3am feed... What will they be like when I want to stop breastfeeding altogether?!?!?!

bigfam · 25/04/2015 22:08

Am I the only one not breast feeding? Sad I wish I could, I remember how precious the bonding experience is.

Dec1314mummy · 26/04/2015 05:37

I'm not bigfam.
I really feel for you all having to try and sort the bottle thing out!
How much on average is everyone's babies waking? I don't know if we are doing well or not! It's gone abit downhill the last 2 nights again though! All I know is she's better than Ds was at this point, but that's not hard!

bigfam · 26/04/2015 07:19

Last night she was asleep at 10pm, woke at 4am then back to sleep til half 6.

Is anyone using pampers and feel like the quality is crap?! I can remember when they were a decent nappy, but the baby saturates one in a couple of hours, it's ridiculous! The best I've used by far is asda's little angels, what are others using?

OP posts:
September60b · 26/04/2015 07:56

Sleep seems to have gone downhill here too Dec! I attempted a dream feed last night at 10pm, and she was still up at 1, 4 and 6 (and now won't go back to sleep). She's refused food at 4 and 6 too Confused

I'm using Aldi nappies bigfam and I think they're fantastic. They've contained some huge poonamis! I think it can depend on the shape of the baby though as a friend isn't a fan and prefers boots own brand.

LittlePink · 26/04/2015 08:00

Sleep is all over the place and different every night. Last night he woke at 11.50pm then 5. Brought him in with me and he was very unsettled car napping on and off until 6 then he was wide awake. Just put him down for a nap now. With dd running around screeching I'm guessing his nap won't be long!

I've found pampers baby dry is awful. I used to use them with dd overnight and active fit in the day and they were great but with ds i don't know what's happened but the baby dry always leak but active fit gets him through the whole night.

LittlePink · 26/04/2015 08:01

Car napping?? I meant cat napping! I didn't take him out in the car!
