Apparently the other thread is closed. How're nappy explosions going?
Baby bought up a little bit, but I thinks it's because she had a total of 9oz in an hour.

I have the britax b agile and it's huge! It was new and I spent 300 quid on the pushchair, 100 on the car seat and 60 on the base for the car.... So quite a bit! Ds doesn't really like going in the buggy anymore either so could be an expensive and useless product! I really like the pushchair, my only niggle would be that it doesn't fold down small, but so far has served me quite well. Problem is Ds loves to walk everywhere, will literally walk for miles, but at 16 months I can't rely on him not getting tired once in a while so can't really go for a buggy board etc. I think that will be the plan by the end of the year though!
Hope everyone has had a good weekend. I have a meeting with my boss tomorrow... Arghhh! Not looking forward to it! Then I'm in work for training on Friday. With both of those and Dd's 16 week jabs on Thursday, I can't say I'm overly excited about this week Hmm

September60b · 19/04/2015 20:56

We have an iCandy, which was pretty pricey but some relatives kindly wanted to buy our travel system. The wheels are big and it's sturdy but it's fairly lightweight and quite narrow. We tend to use it with the car seat most of the time (dd much prefers to be able to look around!) but when we switch to the next seat it can be parent or world facing.

We've done some reasonably long journeys in the car this week which I was dreading. Dd seems to have coped pretty well and slept for most of the journey other than the odd wake up to feed her and let her have a stretch. I do tend to sit in the back with her though so I hope I'm not making life difficult later down the line.....

Bigfam I wish my little one would crash out on my lap. She just won't tolerate anything other than being held upright whilst being rocked, especially now her wind has returned with a vengeance!

bigfam · 19/04/2015 21:03

As soon as I try and move her onto her side or back so has a complete melt down, normally she's happy on her side so tonight might be a battle of wills. She did make a huge effort to roll over the other day and although not there yet she's not too far off, which is pretty good going as she's not even 12 weeks yet. She's also ridiculously ticklish aswell which I love. Grin

Eventful day. DS had his 2nd set of jabs plus his hip scan which was all good. I had my hernia check and i've been referred to see if I need surgery. Then my washing machine blew up. Literally. There was smoke coming out of it. Had to call fil and get him to help me move it out of the house. Shock

Re pushchairs I think the quinny was £400 ish but got that for DD1 so about 5 yrs a go. The city mini was £180 ish I think and the double my best friend has kindly lent me so saving me hundreds as I think they're around £500 new.

bigfam · 22/04/2015 13:38

Hope everyone's good?

Oh dear about your washing machine Eliza, I always get that sort of luck as well just when you really need it for the lo's clothes. How was your lo after the jabs? Baby must be due hers any day now, waiting for the letter. Still lovely and sunny here but think that's due to change over the weekend

How is everyone's else's babies with naps at the moment? This week naps have become awful! I had him in a lovely routine for weeks where he would get up at 7 and go back down at 8.30am for 45 mins while I ran around getting things ready for the day, tidying kitchen etc but this week he's refused point blank to nap in his cot and screams, literally screams for 30 mins until I give up and get him up. I try pick up/ put down, shush pat, letting him fall asleep in my arms but as soon as I lay him down he wakes up and goes beserk! He's then awake for 4 hours straight until he does 20, 30 min naps if I'm lucky. He's gone from 4 naps a day to 2 little cat naps. He won't sleep in the sling anymore or in the pram. Will only cat nap in the car and that's it!

Is this part of the 4 mth sleep regression or something??

I put him to bed at 6.30 tonight and he's still crying on and off. He just doesn't want to sleep this week!

Maybe the reflux mummies can answer me this.... Does ranitidine cause sleep problems? Does the reflux get worse before it gets better (as his reflux has become even worse since starting it last week) and does it cause dihorrea? His nappies have been explosive!

Sorry all me me. How is everyone else? Sorry to hear about your washing machine eliza. Sounds like you had a nightmare with it.

Dec1314mummy · 22/04/2015 19:49

Hello all. What beautiful weather this week!
little dd is terrible at napping and it came to a head last week! It was awful. It's got slightly better again this week but I can't say it's great!
Dd has her 16 week jabs tomorrow and then I'm in work on Friday. Erghhh!

September60b · 22/04/2015 20:38

Naps are absolutely awful here Little, I thought it was something I was doing wrong! Dd refuses to go to sleep and screams for anything up to an hour before each nap until she's exhausted. I've tried everything but nothing seems to calm her down at the moment. I'm hoping it's just a phase?!

Touch wood it hasn't affected her night time sleep yet, even if it does take three hours to get her off to sleep......

Pesto11 · 22/04/2015 21:33

September sounds like my life!

Elizadoesdolittle · 22/04/2015 21:51

Naps have been tricky here the last couple of days too. He will fall asleep when out and about in the buggy or car but as soon as we get home he wakes. He was so tired earlier that he fell asleep on his playmat but DD2 soon put a stop to that.

littlepink He's been on ranitidine a little while now hasn't he? It really should have taken effect by now and certainly shouldn't be making things worse. Re the sleep it does sound like an allergy could be an issue. I can't remember if you're bf or ff but have you tried removing dairy from his diet? And if things aren't getting progressively better I would say you should see the pead again and get different medication.

LittlePink · 22/04/2015 22:04

He's been on ranitidine a week now. He's ebf. Dh spoke to a paediatrician at work today about him who said to up his dose from 0.5ml to 1ml three times a day so going to give it a try. I've been considering cutting out dairy but dairy is basically my whole diet!

Alyx80 · 22/04/2015 22:19

We have a Bugaboo Cameleon again, I had one for DS2&3 too as I love them, I got it second hand for £300 as it was a limited edition colour. Will attach a photo of it today when Q was napping in the garden.

Q is quite hit and miss with naps, we don't have any routine at all so he just naps as and when. Today has been quite good, he had 2.5 hours from 11 and an hour at 6pm plus another 2 or 3 very short catnaps of 10-20 minutes after feeds. His long naps only tend to happen if I can lie him on his front in his pram or basket, he's now sleeping all night on his back but doesn't like napping on his back!
I've had his appointment through for his 16 week jabs on 7th May, am looking forwards to getting them out of the way for a while although my 3 year old is due his boosters soon and I'm dreading those!

Can't believe Q is 15 weeks tomorrow, am trying to enjoy every second with him being our last baby but it's just going too fast! He's managed to roll onto his side today which my older sons are very excited about lol. I did wake one night on holiday to find him on his side and 90 degrees from where he started off but he can't do that here as he's in his hammock.

Jan 2015 new year new babies new thread AND EXPLOSIVE NAPPIES!
Alyx80 · 22/04/2015 22:25

Oh and he either feeds to sleep or is rocked, no self settling at all. He wont even fall asleep in his pram (well he has done twice this week for the first time so hoping that it's going to continue), I've been having to carry him for a while until he falls asleep and then put him back down which is a bit ridiculous! He also screams blue murder in his car seat before eventually falling asleep so trips out aren't very peaceful lol.

Pesto11 · 22/04/2015 22:26

£300 for bugaboo- nice!
We have no routine here either- I just follow her lead!
And dd almost got to 90degrees yesterday. Bit lazy with the tummy time here. Do about 1 minute if I remember (not good)
She can lift her head and look around now. But yesterday surprised me by turning her body too!
First baby so surprised by everything and amazed by it all! 15 weeks this week- wow!

Ikkleme · 22/04/2015 22:44

Just a quick one, has anyone started weaning or thinking about it? Before DD came along HV said we could give solids from birth but wouldn't be recommended.
DD is 13 weeks and gave her porridge yesterday and she loved it!
Anyone think this is too soon?
I've been reading up and everywhere says not to before 17 weeks... Just read this after I gave her it! Confused

bigfam · 23/04/2015 01:21

I was wondering about the weaning thing too, they seem to change the guidelines for nearly everything daily. When dd2 was born only 3 years ago, you were supposed to space feeds out roughly every 3-4 hours (ff) my hv said this time around to demand feed even with formula. I never did space it out with any of them though. Does anyone know the advice on when we need to stop sterilising everything?!

OP posts:
September60b · 23/04/2015 02:43

Sounds as though the sleep thing could be age related then. Must admit I am slightly relieved to hear that it isn't just us going through it and that it could be considered 'normal'!

Haven't started weaning here yet. The hv's and midwives I have spoken to up till now said definitely not before 6 months so to be honest I hadn't really given it much thought. I do let her have a little sniff if I'm eating something intersting though like a strawberry or some chocolate!

Dec1314mummy · 23/04/2015 09:00

I think the recommendations are to wean at 6 months and stop sterilising about the same time. It's said not to wean before 17 weeks. My paediatrician told me to wean bang on 17 weeks with Ds to help the reflux but it only got worse as we found even more allergies! I'm unsure when to do it with dd. I was discussing things with my nan, as she worked at an orphanage when she was in her late teens and has been a nanny since then so has looked after loads of babies. She said they had no such recommendations when she was doing things back then and the babies all turned out ok! I say just go with your instincts!
Dd won't be lay down now in the day, she wants to be in her walker or sat up!
My Dm saw a too too inline for sleeping of waving tissue paper across their face to get them to sleep. I have been making sure that dd is not awake any longer than 2 hours and have been trying to figure out her routine (not achieved if yet) and then using this method. Youtube it if needs be. It's not worked everyone but she sure has been better than before. Also went with the advice to make sure you don't miss the tired ques for the first nap of the day (I have figured it's an hour after waking) as if you mess this one up then the whole day is messed up! It's by no means perfect but it's definitely helping. I have also stayed in for a few days to get her really settled. It may not work for everyone but I had to try something for my own sanity! Grin

Pesto11 · 23/04/2015 09:38

The youtuve video of the dad waving a tissue down baby's face to put him to sleep?
Saw it a few weeks ago
Seemed more peaceful than the walking around rubbing back shushing feeding business that I'm doing!
Have you tried it with dd?

bigfam · 23/04/2015 11:09

Oh dear what a night. Lo decided to wake at half 12, then stayed awake until half 3 this morning. I'm struggling to stay awake and I've got dd2 here as she hasn't got nursery today and ds1 stayed off today. I'm stood tired, I'm just going to youtube that video now, sounds odd

OP posts:
Alyx80 · 23/04/2015 11:39

We won't be weaning until around 26 weeks as I've done with my older boys. I find weaning a huge faff so put it off as long as possible and none of mine have shown any signs of wanting food any earlier!
Lovely and sunny here again today so going to sit in the garden, dh is away from tonight to Monday night, not looking forwards to being on my own all weekend!

Dec1314mummy · 23/04/2015 15:57

pesto yer that's the one! I have tried it but with a muslin. It has actually worked as long as I've put dd down at extactly the right time! She's had her jabs today. Ds managed to walk into a chair and cut his lip at eactly the point dd was screaming, so between the two of the screams were loud enough to scare anyone off! It was like a comedy sketch!
The weather has been so gorgeous again today. We have been outside some of the day but it's got so hot we've come in to cool down for a while. I get it's going to be beautiful tomorrow too and I'm going to be stuck in a meeting all day. I've just had a reminder to say that the dc have a dietician appointment tomorrow as well, but I didn't actually get the letter and it's too late to change them. Dm is going to take them but u feel awful not being there. Sad

bigfam · 23/04/2015 19:55

I watched it too, then proceeded to watch a few more. I had to stop after I'd watched a really messed up one with (obviously) a pretend baby doll in. I've noticed the baby has cradle cap, I hate it with a vengeance but just put some oilatum on it, left it for 15 mins and washed it off. I honestly wasn't expecting much but it actually removed the majority of it, love the stuff!!!

LittlePink · 23/04/2015 20:16

I'm wondering about early weaning because of ds's reflux. I need to speak to the HV and see what they recommend.

I had a breakthrough with the morning nap that hes refused for the last 3 days today. I warned him beforehand that sleepy time was coming up. Then put him in his gro bag in the dark bedroom, put him on his side with some rolled up towels behind his back and faced him towards the wall (sounds so cruel!), gave him a muslin to hold (as he likes to hold them and suck them) told him its sleepy time now, night night and left the room immediately. He didn't even cry and went straight to sleep for 40 minutes. I couldn't believe it after the trouble ive had the past few days with this first morning nap. Perhaps me being there, stroking his head and patting him was over stimulating him and what he needed was for me to just go away and leave him to it!

I have the Alison Scott-Wright no cry sleep solution book which I used with dd and I dug it out again and went with what she said to do (as above) and it seemed to do the trick. I hope im not counting my chickens though and tempting fate! Im mixing this with a bit of "she who shall not be named" and going to put a bit of her routines into play and see how we do. The best part will be trying to space his feeds from 3 hours to 4 hours, not sure I fancy my chances with that. Hes bang on every 3 hours and a right old grump if he doesn't get his milk on demand! How often is everyone elses babies feeding now?

Im such a routine person being a nurse. My whole training is routine so I don't do well without some structure to the day. I know it should be baby led but I need some idea of whats coming next or I get myself in a tiz.

How are you feeling bigfam after your awful night last night? Early night tonight? Have you survived the day? I hope it hasn't been too bad!

bigfam · 23/04/2015 21:13

Thanks little, I don't even know how I've kept going today to be honest, she had a big nap today from 3-6, so I'm worried about tonight now. Argh ds1 has just come down crying with stomach ache Sad I've been completely exhausted lately, falling asleep at 8pm.
