Apparently the other thread is closed. How're nappy explosions going?
Baby bought up a little bit, but I thinks it's because she had a total of 9oz in an hour.

Ah the giggles. I love them! Ds likes being bounced on your knee and giggles away. He's very sociable and is a big hit with the older ladies. He flirts with them which I love. It's very funny to see his smiles and looking all coy and cute.

Had a breakthrough with naps today. I don't know if this is a bad thing, prob is for self settling purposes but his mattress ive found is bouncy due to the springs. So I put him on his side with rolled up towels front and back so he can't roll anywhere, shawn the sheep, muslin to hold/ suck then firm voice "it's sleepy time now alex, night night", hand on his shoulder and gently bounce him off to sleep. He woke 20 mins later and I was up the stairs like I had a rocket up my backside, hand on shoulder again and bounced him back off to sleep with a bit of a shush, shawn back on again and he slept for another hour! I'm working hard on the naps as we've had some horrendous times recently with over tiredness and him staying awake for four hours and being so wired that he gets himself worked up into an absolute tiz and is a nightmare to calm down. It can't go on like that, he needs to learn how to do longer naps and more frequent. And it's almost like whatever works to get the naps in at the moment, even if bouncing won't help him learn to self settle! How's everyone else with naps lately?

Alyx80 · 29/04/2015 23:19

Q is fed to sleep 80% of the time and then cuddled/walked to sleep the rest of the time. Occasionally he'll go to sleep in his car seat but not usually. He's no where near self settling but my older boys didn't do it until past one and managed with very little input from me so hopefully he'll get it one day!

DS2 would only sleep in his cot and tbh it was a nightmare! Much preferred the only napping in his pram that I had from DS3!

Nesspot · 30/04/2015 04:42

Ah, ladies, it sounds as tho your los are coming on leaps and bounds! No giggles yet from DS but he is a serious wee thing at the best of times so even smiles are few and far between!

He had been sleeping really well - generally 8 - 7 with a quick feed at 4am but this has gone to pot over the last few days. 5am is NOT an acceptable getting up time in this house but he persists in trying!

As far as nappies go, we are using mainly cloth ones which I love! I'm a complete convert. On the occasions we use disposables tho, it's Aldi ones we use. We use their sensitive wipes too - they're lush compared to all the others!

Nesspot · 30/04/2015 04:48

Oh, and Bigfam, I'm formula feeding too after an epic battle with thrush. I ebf for two weeks then introduced one bottle a day. This carried on until seven weeks when I gave up. Poor ds had oral thrush from 11 days - 11 weeks old and I had hoped that switching would stop the cycle of us passing it to each other. It kinda worked although I do miss bf.

Elizadoesdolittle · 30/04/2015 09:14

nesspot I remember your epic battle with thrush. You did really well to bf for as long as you did.

LittlePink · 30/04/2015 12:03

Talking about thrush. Mine is back. And I've got mastitis. It came on suddenly yesterday so I went to the doctors this morning. I've got a really sore yellow ulcer on the nipple and a large hard, hot area on the right breast. I'm trying to feed through it but it really hurts when he latches on. He's fussing around that boob too so he's on and off. Bfing was going so well I could cry. And the thrush, what a pain. Back to the cream and wiping it away before every feed. Arghhh I'm so annoyed!

bigfam · 30/04/2015 12:39

Oh no little Sad Hope the mastitis clears up and doesn't get any worse.
I'm so tired again, but it's my fault because instead of going back to sleep after the 5am feed I decided to have a bath, then dd1 woke up and she had a bath, then ds1 and then dd2. I then started with some washing and dusting, now I can't be bothered to move! |-O

Hi all, checking in cos I've been AWOL for a few weeks. I can't believe how time has flown! We had our first swimming lesson this morning which was fun. DD is becoming so active, grabbing everything and desperately trying to roll over (but not quite managing yet). She's almost certainly teething, too, so her hands are CONSTANTLY in her mouth, and saturating her clothes wth drool. Poor poppet.

September60b · 30/04/2015 14:57

Hi everyone. Sorry to hear about the thrush and mastitis. I still live in fear of getting either!

Sleep has totally gone to pot here. Dd absolutely won't go to sleep unless she is being walked around in what I can only describe as a bouncing swaying motion that only I and not dh can do! Last night I was pacing up and down for an hour and a half, only for her to wake up again at 9pm (10 mins after being put down!). She woke at 1am, then 4am and then 5.30am up for the day, for the third time running. Daytime naps are hit and miss but she often falls asleep in the afternoon for 3 hours (probably exhausted from the night before). I know she isn't getting enough sleep but not really sure what to do about it! I feel like I spend most of my day trying to get her to sleep...

Ahh well, bank holiday weekend this weekend so fingers crossed for some good weather!

Nesspot · 30/04/2015 17:27

Ah, Little. Thrush and mastitis! I can't even imagine the pain. The thrush alone was more than I could take. Poor you. While I really miss breastfeeding, stopping was definitely the best thing for me at the time. And this way I get to have an occasional gin too (while absolutely not reason in itself to stop, it's definitely a happy byproduct!).

Chi, I took ds swimming the other day. Loved it! So much fun and he looked mega cute in his wee dragon swimming suit! I can't wait to go again.

chiruri · 30/04/2015 17:40

DD has been awful sicky since swimming this morning. She's quite refluxy anyway, but it doesn't bother her much. She's vomiting more than usual though. She settled otherwise so I think her tummy has just reacted a bit to the water.
Talking of gin, I'm a terrible mummy as I am partial to a wee glass even though I'm still EBF Confused. I'm thinking about introducing some formula in the coming weeks as I have a couple of commitments where I'll be leaving DD with DH for an extended period of time and I am concerned that if I start expressing again I'll just be asking for engorgement/leaking and possibly mastitis again. I feel awful for introducing formula for such selfish reasons though Blush

Pesto11 · 30/04/2015 21:35

Think I'm getting mastitis again :(
Poor you little and thrush too- ouchie
Hope you are recovering well

Must be a 16 week thing... Cz dd was sleeping so well and now we are back to having up and down, yup we are doing the bouncy walking thing too! And yup just me while dh watches TV downstairs!!

And I know she will be up at 1am cz she has hardly drunk anything this evening- too busy screaming to be bounced around! Ohhh

LittlePink · 01/05/2015 08:30

4 mth sleep regression pesto! I hope it doesn't last long. Ds was up at 10.40 for an hour last night screaming. I've no idea what was wrong. I couldn't settle him. Dh managed to settle him which made me feel like a rubbish mum! I spent ages trying to calm him down and Dh did it in a matter of minutes and got him back to sleep. Ho hum.

I feel really unwell today. The night was bad. My boob is killing and ive got a sore throat which I guess is a symptom of the mastitis. I'm so run down and tired and not able to look after myself very well at the moment. I wanted to check my temp yesterday but I just didn't get the chance. Was too busy seeing to the two of them and now it's off on the school run and I feel like poo with a throbbing, tingly boob and scratchy throat. Dd decided she wanted to potty train 2 days ago so it's been full on with that. Every time I'm feeding or trying to get ds to nap she announces she needs the potty which is blatantly an attention thing as she knows everything stops for the potty.

LittlePink · 01/05/2015 08:31

Sorry for my pity post. How's everyone else?

Elizadoesdolittle · 01/05/2015 09:26

littlepink sounds tough. You've a lot going on. I hope you manage to get some rest at somepoint. I feel bad as DD2 showed signs of wanting to potty train about a month a go but I encouraged her to stay in nappies as the timing was really bad. She'll probably be a nightmare to train when I want her to do it now Grin

Alyx80 · 01/05/2015 10:02

DS decided to train two weeks ago too. Luckily he's a bit older (3y2m) as I put him off when I was pregnant but it's meant he's got it quite quickly really and has gone straight to the toilet rather than the potty. Q has had to get used to being plonked down while I sorted R!

I think we had the 16 week growth spurt from last weekend as he was feeding an extra couple of times in the night Fri and Sat and squeezed an extra feed in last night too.

DS1 returns from his residential today so looking forwards to collecting him later Smile but first I need to spend the day washing and cleaning I think!

Alyx80 · 01/05/2015 10:06

Hope your feeling better soon littlepink. Is it a milk blister on your nipple? kellymom.com/bf/concerns/mother/nipplebleb/ As they can cause mastitis.

September60b · 01/05/2015 10:49

Pesto our little ones sound identical! At least we are burning off some of the baby weight Wink.

Lots of respect to you ladies that are potty training alongside a newborn!

bigfam · 01/05/2015 10:53

We've only just passed 13 weeks so looks like I've got the 4 month regression to look forward to. People are commenting how she's suddenly got a lot bigger and chunkier too, but I love chunky!! She's become very vocal over the last couple of days a coo's when I ask her to talk, it's adorable!

Hope you're better soon Littlepink, mastitis really does run you down.

Chi, don't feel guilty about introducing a bottle. You need to have a life too! In my case, introducing the bottle to DS was brilliant. It meant dh could take a feed and I could do other things without needing to be on boob duty all the time and it gave my thrushy nips a chance to heal. Having said that, I wailed the first time he had a bottle because I felt so bad! Soon got over it though!

chiruri · 01/05/2015 12:32

Thanks, Ness. I know I'm being silly but it's difficult to see past the pressure to EBF (unless medically necessary). Went out and bought formula and a dispenser today Smile. I'm sure DD'll guzzle it down - she's such a wee fatty!

bigfam · 01/05/2015 20:41

The baby wouldn't settle, I tried cuddling rocking, the pram, she didn't want a bottle. Brought her up to bed and within 5 minutes has settled down, she absolutely loves the bed!!! Good luck with the ff chi, you shouldn't feel bad at all, we all love our Lo's unconditionally but deserve a break now and then Grin

OP posts:
Nesspot · 01/05/2015 21:29

I don't think you're being silly at all Chi. It's so frustrating. I've been really surprised at the number of people I barely know asking me if I'm bf. I then feel I have to justify why I'm not, meaning that a whole load of folk know all about my thrushy nips! I hate feeling like I have to defend my parenting decisions!

Nesspot · 01/05/2015 21:30

Bigfam, ds is the same. 6 nights out of 7 he'll go to sleep perfectly in his crib but every so often only the king size double will do!!!!

chiruri · 01/05/2015 21:56

Ness I know what you mean about the questioning. EVERYONE asks me how I'm feeding her, even people I barely know! Thanks for the support Smile. I'm so glad that FFing is working out so well for you!
I'm secretly super excited about being able to go out wearing a proper bra again, too.
