Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

donkir Did you take him to the GP and asked to be referred or was it during the routine check that your GP referred you? LO prefers to look left too and we only noticed it yesterday, but didn't realise it was a major issue. Hmm We did switch his mat to make him turn his head the other way, so today I'll be checking him out.

His nappy rash is now really nasty after all sorts of creams (nappy rash, antifungal, antibiotic) and unfortunately he's having a growth spurt (the last couple of days he had 8 feeds as opposed to 6 to a total of almost 44 (!) ounces), so poonamis during every.single.feed do not help. Shock He is trying to sleep in between all this, bless him, but I believe his bum stings a lot now so most probably he is using feeding as a soother (vicious circle begins..etc. etc.) :(

tweety89 · 19/04/2015 11:10

memphis DD had the hearing test while at hospital (2nd of 3rd day), whilst this time LO was checked by the HV on his 2-week check.

Memphisbelly · 19/04/2015 11:16

Oh tweety your poor LO it must be so sore. Hope it clears soon.

Both of my boys had their hearing tests in hospital and both came up as not hearing but went back a few days after and they were clear, they were just initially blocked up with fluid, ds1 does now have a problem with hearing due to glue ear eventually damaging his drum but luckily he isn't going to need hearing aids

donkir · 19/04/2015 12:27

Tweety I'd noticed it myself but didn't really worry. I then had an extra hv appointment for PND and mentioned it to hv who has referred him. She's suggested to move mat like you've done and only communicate on the other side to encourage him to turn. Also at every nappy change just gently turn his head back and forth a few times. Physio in 2 weeks but I've already noticed a huge difference just doing what hv suggested.

Mimosa1 · 19/04/2015 15:01

Hi Memphis, she did have the hearing test at birth and passed it but just doesn't seem to react to noise yet

Grinningcat · 19/04/2015 16:47

Sorry to have not posted for a little while. Had a hectic few days.

LO and I went to visit my Dad on Thursday and he collapsed while we were out with a chest infection none of us had any clue he had ( my DBro has seen him everyday). Cue me spending the afternoon and evening in A&E with LO with limited supplies. Thankfully Dad was put on iv antibiotics and U.S. slowly improving, but won't be out any time soon. Good old paediatrics though for helping me out with a feed for DS.

DS now had gastro-osophagial (sp?)reflux and after an emergency appointment on Friday is on gaviscon infant. It is helping, but he is still coughing and spluttering during feeding. However he is keeping most of his food down now so that is good.

My AF arrived on Thursday and is very heavy. Has anyone else had this! On Friday I was changing pads every 45 mins and I'm pretty sure I'm now anemia again. I was just feeling better following my anemia post birth and now I'm back to feeling light headed and short of breath again.

Anyhow had a generally crap few days. Feeling very shattered now what with asking around hospitals, gps, pharmacies, and probable anemia again.

Grinningcat · 19/04/2015 16:48

Asking!? Meant dashing around.

freneticfox · 19/04/2015 18:15

Grinning, that must have been scary, and awfully stressful! Hope things are OK now.

Donkir, I hope you're doing better?

Went to a newborn floatation class today, LO loved it and grinned most of the time. The instructor said we'd be most likely to notice LO sleeping a lot this afternoon, and have we? Have we balls... I on the other hand am completely wiped out!

Feeling a bit weighed down by anxiety at the moment, going to try and get out more this week, even if just half an hour in the garden.

tweety89 · 19/04/2015 19:45

I hope things are better now grinning. Your dad, LO's reflux, your anaemia. Very scary indeed.

Wish I could fast forward the next couple of weeks and have things magically sorted out in the meantime (anaemia, nappy rash, sleep). But then again, he is my last baby Star so I don't want to miss a second of him being so small and cute. Grin

Addictedtocustardcreams · 19/04/2015 19:55

Grinning- hope your dad is doing ok, sounds like a horrid few days.
Frenetic- hope the anxiety levels aren't too bad, the forecast says sunshine here for the next few days, hope it is the same everywhere and you manage to get out & about.
Had a lovely afternoon yesterday at a friend's house just sat out in the garden with kids playing around. Today I told DH he needed daddy-daughter time & left the house with LO & went to a cafe & read the paper. It was lovely, I felt really recharged afterwards. Even though I was feeding a baby I felt I still had a bit of me time as was nice & quiet & I wasn't thinking about the washing or the dinner!

gemsie23 · 20/04/2015 04:28

Tweety89 are you bf or formula? My dd had a really nasty (looked even blistered) bottom for 3-4 weeks after birth and it didn't clear up with cream, changing to naty nappies or anything until 2 days after I stopped expressing it was completely gone. Someone said they reckon I had thrush and was passing it on to lo, no one at the time even mentioned treating me though, which i guess would have fixed it!

Also to those about hearing, my dd failed 3 hearing tests and on a couple they said don't expect her to react to me clapping on the side she wasn't looking etc as she would be expecting me to make noise at some point as she knew I was in the room. After a referral to audiology, she has slight glue ear in one ear due to be congested from colds pretty much all her time since birth. They have said this should go by her next check at 8 months.
Thank you to those who gave me info on bedtime routines too, hope everyone is having a good night. I thought my lo was waking half hour ago so made a bottle but it seems she isn't yet....I guess I should be asleep really!!!

Grinningcat · 20/04/2015 08:24

Thank you all for your good wishes. Dad is still in hospital and I don't think he'll be getting out for a little while. Thing is I'm not too sure about visiting a respiratory ward again with a 7 week old who hasn't even had his first jabs yet. I could ask my PIL to babysit, but Dad doesn't live nearby and it would mean being separated from DS for best part of a day which I'm not too sure about just yet to be honest. I guess I will see what the doctors say today.

On another note, I am feeling better today and even though Ds is still coughing and choking over his feeds, at least he is keeping them mostly down now Smile.

Going to visit DH at his work later this morning.

Memphisbelly · 20/04/2015 09:34

Grinning hope he improves soon, your dad is in the best place I am sure if visiting will be hsrd with LO your dad will understand.

Lo was so off yesterday, I took ds1 to a party and came back to him looking so poorly and screaming (he never really screams) nothing soothed him we did all the usual tricks, when he did calm it was only for a few minutes. This lasted until bed but then slept as normal through night with no tears and slept from 6 until a few moments ago and is now chatty and smiley again, so weird.

Got his letter for second jabs next monday

Mimosa1 · 20/04/2015 17:45

Likewise grinning, thinking of you and your dad. Fingers crossed he is on the mend soon.

tweety89 · 21/04/2015 00:18

gemsie I stopped bf'ing 15 days ago and he started having the nappy rash before I stopped, so not sure what's going on there...
Today I was at a birthday party and one of my friends saw his nappy rash while I was changing him and she couldn't believe how bad it was. She suggested bepanthene as well (GP had suggested metanium and/or bepanthene), so we've started using this cream now as metanium seems to be painful. :( :( Let's see what the GP says tomorrow...And let's hope we sleep better tonight!

GeekyHybrid · 21/04/2015 03:04

grinning I hope your dad's on the mend and you're not hospital visiting for too long. A few years ago OH's grandma was in for 6 months, we got to know the local hospital too well Hmm
tweety that sounds like a mare of a nappy rash, fingers crossed you're getting some sleep and the GP is helpful tomorrow.
Mr inconsistency made it to 2.30 tonight, I think that's a new time for him Shock Maybe we can make morning from here Hmm

trukevoli · 21/04/2015 08:47

OH is off with a headache which means for the first time in 9 weeks I can have my coffee on my own whilst LO is still in bed with him......this actually is rather nice!

LO had his first business meeting yesterday and two more today. Thank god for understanding clients.

grinning - hope your dad is on the mend. It is amazing what hospitals can do.

For nappy rash my mum recommended leaving the baby nappyless as much as possible and just sitting them on a towel. The air works wonders.

Memphisbelly · 21/04/2015 09:58

Tweety have you tried egg white on the bottom? You let the air get to it and paint it on it creates a protein film that helps soothe also Weleda did wonders for ds1 when metanium didn't its not as thick and hard to rub on as bepanthen.

We LO only had 10oz all day of milk and then 20 through the night Shock he really isn't very happy. Speaking to some mums at school they all seem to think his teeth are just on the move then will settle before they pop through gum

Going to the baby group today its a 6 week course they teach something new every week like weaning etc then do s baby related craft, today is foot and hand prints.

jenmcspen · 21/04/2015 10:06

Have been absent for a bit as LO really hasn't been himself since his 12 week jabs. Sad Up a LOT at night, mainly for comfort not really to feed, screaming.
And a very grumpy boy for most of the day. Feel exhausted and sad.

jenmcspen · 21/04/2015 10:07

grinning hope ur dad gets better soon. Thinking of you x

tweety89 · 21/04/2015 10:09

Thanks geeky. Hopefully he'll get better soon.
truk I am leaving him nappyless a few times a day but I'm not sure how long is long enough. Hmm I'm sure I'm doing something wrong...

I am worried about the jabs today, especially the new jab for rotavirus. I've heard that it makes them have really nasty poo. Is this right? If it is so, it will definitely affect his nappy rash. Can you please lmk your experience after the jabs? DD had her jabs 4.5 years ago (no rotavirus jab back then) and she was fine with all of them. But she's quite resilient and strong anyway. Mummy's boy on the other hand looks more fragile...

tweety89 · 21/04/2015 10:15

memphis I had heard about the egg white but didn't know how to do it. I'll definitely give it a try after he sees the GP. Do I just leave it like the nappy rash creams? My OH will freak out as he hates eggs! lol

Memphisbelly · 21/04/2015 10:43

you just dip cotton wool in it and paint it on, let it air dry to form a film thrn pop nappy on

PeppermintInfusion · 21/04/2015 11:05

Had my 2nd HV, 'luckily' DS was in loads of pain with his wind when she arrived so she saw what he is like so she told me to phone the GP then and then she went on and got a prescription for infant gaviscon as she thinks it is reflux. The times I had him at the GP he wasn't that bad so he wouldn't give me anything for him. Fingers crossed this works!

Also I was shocked to hear he is now 9lbs4oz at 6 weeks after only being 6lb10oz when he was born (and overdue)

jenmcspen · 21/04/2015 12:58

tweety we haven't had any particularly bad nappies after jabs but have had a friend who's LO did have rather explosive poos for about 24hrs so think it is the luck of the draw with the rotovirus.
Hope for ur LO'S sake that he doesn't. is so hard to see them uncomfortable or in pain Sad
