Hope you are enjoying your Spa day Fate, I am doing the same tomorrow with a friend with DH has a day with DS (probably watching star wars, he has been threatening to introduce it to him since he was conceived haha).

I haven't really started weaning DS yet either. He is over 6 months now too but I keep putting it off. I have puree in the freezer though, so hopefully this weekend. He has grabbed crackers and bread sticks off me though, so he has had some solids, but not much.

No luck on the cat napping here Apples, and he only seems to nap on me or in his pram through the day. I can't complain though as he does sleep through at night in his cot. I just get used to moving him into the rooms I am in and letting him watch me do housework.

Topsyloulou · 12/03/2015 15:01

DS has three naps a day, two at 40 minutes & one of about 90. If we're at home he naps in the cot, if we're out then he naps in the car seat or pushchair. He quite often needs resettling after the first 40 minutes of his 90 minute nap but usually goes back to sleep ok.

We haven't started weaning yet either, waiting until DS is 6 months. He is very interested in food now so we gave him a small piece of avocado on a spoon which he liked once he worked out what to do. He also had a piece of bread when we were out for dinner & he knew what to do with it straight away.

We now have teeth, well the very beginning of them poking through the gums.

Zanashar · 12/03/2015 23:39

Thank you Apples, my running really isn't up to much but my mud wading and crawling has been suitably honed!Wink
My next thing will be to do the local halF marathon in October, hopefully.

Dd tried to grab my breadstick at lunch today!! GrinGrinGrin Gave her a tiny taste of all my food too.......including the rather divisive olives!!!
( she's no child of mine if she doesn't like olives, hummus and Marmite ??????)

We couldn't concentrate on upstairs napping today as we were out all day visiting a friend who lives about an hour away, so she managed her usual thirty min nap x2
So the day she lasted two hours sleep must have been a fluke ??

I'm sorry but can we talk about poo...again?!

Since weaning started, DS went five days with no poo. Lots of tummy massage, water and banana later we had a poonami. Since then, I cannot stop the poo! It's changed to that horrible actual poo now rather than baby milky poo and it's ALL the time. Every nappy I change there is some poo. Will this last? Or is it his digestion adjusting?

Also, they seem to take some effort to get out. And why oh why is it at every meal time, which then seems to interrupt him actually enjoying his food. He goes from content and eating to straining and unhappy and wanting no more food.

Any words of wisdom?

holls2000 · 13/03/2015 19:24

honey - b took a while to settle down in terms of poo. he is now doing human poo (rank) 4 or 5 times a day. he also strains during meals - sometimes I stop midway to change him and then he continues with his meal as if nothing happened!!!

cookielove · 13/03/2015 20:10

E still does a mixture of adult and baby poop! Although it all stinks, and he does struggle more frequently! I try to up his water intake!

topmammy · 13/03/2015 20:17

Human poo lol! That tickled me.

When I first started weaning Jessica she looked as if she was straining a bit too and would poop small amounts of solid poo pretty often. It sorted itself out eventually... although she has just had 5 days with no poo and then 2 or 3 big poos per day for the last couple of days! Shock Her bowels also start up during meal times, I think it's a normal physiological reaction to chewing and swallowing food. Quite inconvenient though isn't it haha!

Zanashar · 13/03/2015 20:38

Lots of smelly adult poos here too. We average 3-4 per day now. Most are thicker than milk poos but usually (thankfully) still quite soft despite her v low water intake . Now and again there'll be what I call a ghost poo, bit firmer, leaving minimal (almost none) residue on her bottom ( sorry if TMI) .

I've also noticed that having food tends to bring on a pooping episode. DD is still on single basic purees at the moment ( she didn't like the lentils peppers and rice I tired the other day, made her gag) and they're so pongy. They're only going to get worse. ConfusedConfusedConfused

IAteSomeofthePies · 13/03/2015 21:11

I'm so dim that I kept looking at the other thread and thinking that you all were very quiet! I'm glad to have found you.

Kitkat we're doing BLW too. DS hasn't really got the hang of swallowing, but two weeks in and he's getting really good at cramming things in his mouth, having a suck on them, then spitting them out! We waited til 6 months for the weaning, too, and still only offer one meal a day. Our GP said they didn't need solid food before they'd figure out how to eat themselves. We don't wait three days between foods, either. I think very little actually gets down him. Peanut butter toast fingers have been a hit the past two nights.

He still has milk poo, thank goodness. I'm not sure when that will change. He had a bit of a virus two weeks ago and still is tending a bit toward diarrhea. Apparently it can take a while for things to get back to normal.

IAteSomeofthePies · 13/03/2015 21:13

Oh, and Acorn we were struggling with eczema, and our first gp gave us hydrocortisone, which helped a bit. But most recent GP gave us Oilatum Jr for the bath and Doublebase lotion to rub on after. What a difference! It all almost cleared up in a week.

Honeybear30 · 13/03/2015 21:58

Thank you for the comments! I also think 'human poo' Holls! Isn't it silly? :)

DS doesnt seem bothered that the poo is in his nappy mid meal, he has never been bothered by a dirty nappy, so I don't think changing him will help. It's just all the effort that seems to go into it which upsets him and stops meal time. I guess a nappy change might sufficiently interrupt him that we could start again with the food though.

I will live in hope that the frequency will slow if nothing else!

DS loves banana. Loves it! Tonight we had banana and some sweet potato mash for dinner. But I made the mistake of offering the banana first. So when I switched to potato oh my goodness he had a full on melt down. how dare you put that in my mouth mummy, get me the BANANA it really was quite comical.

holls2000 · 14/03/2015 07:10

acorn, b has eczema and doc gave diprobase which didn't work but he now has zeroderm which has cleared his face up. we have hydrocortisone for when.it flares up.

TeamEponine · 14/03/2015 07:56

Aveeno bath oil, and other Aveeno products, are great for babies with eczema, and without the steroids in hydrocortisone. You can get it on prescription or from boots. I use it on my skin after being recommended it by a relative who was prescribed it for their baby!

holls2000 · 14/03/2015 09:17

Team - I tried Aveeno for B, and it made him worse…however, I have really dry skin and it's been great for me!!!!! The hydrocortisone seems to sort of clear it up - I thought the levels of redness were bad yesterday but the doc said it didn't need h.c. and to keep zeroderming it until it really flared. I am tempted to try oilatum. I think it's really a case of just keep trying things till you find what works…v much trial and error in this house!

OP posts:
Acorncat · 14/03/2015 09:38

Getting nowhere with be eczema. Went back to gp yesterday as the bits that had healed have flared up again and it's also spread up his belly and round his neck Sad . Saw a different doc and we now have aveeno cream, oilatum plus, fucidin (antiobitic for infected bit), mild hydrocortisone for his face and synalar (stronger steroid) for worse bits, and to use piriton for itching. Now given he's already on ranitidine and omeprazole for his reflux I'm feeling like he's being totally over medicated! And wary of synalar as says not for under 1s Confused . I Wonder why they haven't suggested the zeroderm, double base or diprobase like you guys have had. We're seeing the paediatrician next week for his reflux so hoping she can help or at least refer us somewhere. I can handle a bit of eczema but it's just the rate it's spreading that's scary, he's going to be literally covered in it in another week if it progresses like this Sad

On the poo subject, still most baby poo but a little firmer. Tho it's been 3 days now with no poo so don't know if he's constipated or just building up to a massive poonami

holls2000 · 14/03/2015 10:22

Acorn, ours started on face - diprobase no good at all for him, then spread to tummy, so bought aveeno which made it worse, then started getting patches on legs. saw doc who gave us the zeroderm and that has cleared face pretty well. iam sure that the swimming pool is exacerbating it but gp said to let him swim. dh has a bit of eczema and gp said she reckons ds will grow out of it. It doesn't make it any easier though. I have started a food diary to see if I can pinpoint any flary foods but I really just think its the pool.

Sorry to hear about all the babies with excema. I'm afraid I don't have any advice but hoping they get better soon.

RE: Poo. We have nearly finished the transition to formula, and I think that more than solids (given that she's barely eaten any) has affected her poo. It's still baby poo but lighter in colour and thicker. Plus she's pooing a lot. Twice already this morning!

IAte I'm struggling with weaning. We have offered Jessica loads of different foods now in both a pureed way and BLW way and she's barely eating / liking anything. Just plays with it if BLW method and clamps her mouth shut if we offer her anything on a spoon (with the exception of butternut squash and sweet potato mash which she likes). I know it's very early days though so am trying not to stress too much about it but struggling. Here's a pic of Jessica playing with some spaghetti Bolognese though!

topmammy · 14/03/2015 14:31

We were doing ok with weaning but the last few days J clamps her mouth shut to everything except yoghurt! Little scamp! It sure isn't easy this weaning.

TeamEponine · 14/03/2015 15:47

First attempt at proper food seems to have been quite successful here! I don't think much was actually consumed, but she seemed to quite enjoy exploring the taste and texture. She was so cute and funny!

I'm working on the idea that, as long as she isn't consuming less milk, any solids that actually go in are just a bonus. For now I'm treating it like a bit of a game to get her used to different tastes. At some point she will work out how to actually eat what I'm trying to shovel into her.

I've been feeling so much happier and calmer over the past couple of days, and funnily enough so has DD. I'm sure she feeds off of my emotions!

lilone1234 · 14/03/2015 18:29

We started weaning today. Started with baby rice. Did manage to get quite a bit in Molly's mouth - not sure if she swallowed any! Don't think she was overly keen on the taste but seemed happy enough with the experience!

She's not very good at all at holding her cup though or drinking - she's not keen on water. Any others had trouble with this? Any tips?

holls2000 · 14/03/2015 18:56

Lil it has taken four weeks to get b vaguely interested in water...hang in there!

OP posts:
cookielove · 14/03/2015 20:32

To get E interested in water I offered it in a bottle first he takes several oz this way have repeatedly offered in a cup and he is doing better with it now we have been weaning since 5.5 months and he just turned 7 months.

We gave up on baby rice early on E was definition meh about it :)

FATEdestiny · 14/03/2015 23:01

Hi all

DD had a cheese sandwich for "lunch" today. Some roasted parsnip batons for "dinner". In actual fact she just squashed, sucked and played with them into a sticky mess. Some eating may have happened, but consuming isn't the point for us. Also gave her a beaker to play with Grin

Happy Mothers Day for tomorrow!

Ten around the table for dinner here.

TeamEponine · 15/03/2015 05:42

Strangest thing has happened last night!

Remember a few days ago I was trying to get DD to sleep without swaddling, it was all going horribly wrong so I gave up?

Well... Last night I swaddled her for bed as usual, normally she objects to the process of the swaddling being put on, but instantly calms once it is done. Last night that didn't happen. She got really upset, almost like she was angry, and took ages to settle to sleep. Through the night she was really unsettled and kept getting really upset. DH and I both had the gut instinct that she was objecting to being swaddled, so took it all off, dug the sleeping bag out from the bottom of the wardrobe and tried her in that. Instantly she was calmer! Put her into her cot, she rolled onto her side and fell blissfully asleep!!! Shock

Now, she's not slept amazingly without the swaddling, but she's not slept too bad! It just seems like she suddenly decided that she's a big girl and doesn't need that babyish swaddling! I'll try not swaddling her for her naps today and she how she gets on. All quite strange Confused

She's now having her morning sleep on mummy. Bliss!

Happy Mother's Day everyone Flowers

lilone1234 · 15/03/2015 08:19

Happy Mother's Day all!

I'm currently having breakfast in bed and DP has got Molly dressed and fed.

First Mother's Day without my mum though, so quite bitter sweet for me.
