Another one who allowed a 'lick' of chocolate over Easter. He seemed to like it, so he definitely takes after me, preferring bread and chocolate over fruit and vegetables!

Weening is still going very slowly here, he isn't a fan of puree, prefers to use his hands. But still not keen on food. But I will just keep persevering, he will get there eventually. And he is getting plenty of nutrients as he hasn't dropped any milk yet.

Weather is lovely here too. Which leads me onto a question of sun block? Does anyone have any recommendations? I burn in spring sun, even when its cloudy, so want to ensure DS is well protected.

Topsyloulou · 07/04/2015 17:47

Cumbrian I used boots soltan baby factor 50 when we went to South Africa. I applied it every couple of hours & DS was fine. We kept him out of the sun as much as we could as it was 35 degrees some days.

ApplesTheHare · 07/04/2015 19:53

Wow so much to catch up on! Hope you all had a fab easter. We went to the in-laws and had a lovely time with all the kids running around. DD was endlessly entertained. It was bloody great Grin

Team LOVE the shoes! Smart but edgy enough to give the mum uniform a makeover any day. You've inspired me to finally go shopping...!

Who was asking about boobs after breastfeeding? I've just stopped and my boobs are very soft, but I don't think smaller than before. I've also just started on the pill though, and in the past that's worked wonders in the chest department.

Ella How come your DP's nephew is going on hols with you? You're very generous to take him away seeing as you'll have a 1-year-old as it is. I'd takes nieces and nephews away, but not atm.

Have posted in aibu about this but we got invited to an all-weekend wedding today and I'm a bit scared. It's 3.5 hours away, 'outdoorsy' in October and may or may not involve camping, as well as being the longest wedding ever. Oh and DH is best man!

ApplesTheHare · 07/04/2015 19:54

KitKat I've a friend with 3 kids and the middle one wasn't really into her food until she was about 9 months. I'd try not to get disheartened if she's getting enough milk, as she'll be getting her nutrients that way Flowers

CumbrianExile · 07/04/2015 20:18

Thanks Topsy I will go and get some of that, if it can cope with South African sun it should be fine in Manchester Grin

Wow Apples that sounds fun. Although not sure I would be up for the camping pre DC never mind with a 1 year old (assuming DD is invited?). Could you stay in a hotel?

holls2000 · 07/04/2015 20:59

I bought the soltan one today.

B a bit grouchy at the mo. He is down to 2 bottles now so I probably need to up his feeds and give a decent snack at 10/3. He is v dribbly tho so teething also an issue!

Re: Boobs. I have not breastfed any of mine...but my boobs go massive during pregnancy. From a tiny B to an F/G. Following the twins, when my boobs shrank to normal, they dropped a little and turned really soft and squishy. I was desperate for a boob job...but over time appreciated them again. What I learned was most women who have kids, regardless of breastfeeding or not, have a less full squishy version. So those of you that have noticed a change, you are not alone Smile .

Kitkat - apparently I wasn't particularly interested in food until I was 10 months! I think that as long as they haven't dropped any milk feeds, then any food you do get in them is a bonus.

My mum has come up with the idea that babies get interested in food once they have teeth. Not sure if this is madness or not, but she says it was true with me and my siblings. Was just wondering if this seems to be true for any of you?

Coconut yogurt has gone done very well! I mix it half and half with fruit puree. She also loves having tiny bits of toast crust. I'm considering giving her a crust to hold and eat herself, but that scares me a little. Won't she just bite of a big chunk and then risk choking? I might also need to buy a different bread as I love seeded bread, but not sure she could manage the bigger seeds.

Glad people are liking the shoes Grin

I've done four days in a row now of the seven minute workout too Grin

Nazly · 07/04/2015 23:07

Team not for us, it is not true; all on solids here with only two night bf and no teeth yet; his corrected age is 7months

I would say those of you with babies who are taking milk very well but are slow in taking solids are better off than me with a baby all for solids and no milk!!! At least you know you will slowly get there and there is no issue with nutrition values

Team ds has been having toasts for quite a while now; but I don't toast the bread and give him softer bits with spreads (cheese, yogurt, etc) he loves if; he some times go for it in such a hurry and has big big bites, but was never even close to choking on bread because gag reflex helps massively... I definitely recommend trying it....

Nazly · 07/04/2015 23:10

Ooh just saw that team; I would not go for anything seeded just yet...

FATEdestiny · 07/04/2015 23:29

Team - She will just suck and squish the bread/toast, not bite. She may rip bits off, suck on them and spit out. Maybe she'll actually eat bits too. It'll be fine Smile

DD is bucking the trend along with Nazly's DS and is absolutely loving her food. For every meal she polishes off the equivalent of two jars of puree (one savoury, one sweet), plus finger food of whatever we are having - for all three meals.

Offering diluted fruit juice in a bottle is working to get her drinking - probably around 300ml per day for the last 2 days that we've used the bottle. Much better than the 50ml (most of which was spat out) from the beaker. Working on the beaker though.

We are now down to 3 or 4 milk feeds per day of about 7-8oz, so it fits with the pint of milk a day they used to recommend.

Been playing 'chase the hoover' today. Works nicely alongside 'dive on the dog' (who's getting a bit old for this game now) and 'reach for the cat' (who always sits out of reach). I have discovered though that the best entertainment for a lazy mother who wants her baby entertained are older siblings. Thank goodness for school holidays! DDs big brothers and sister are great with her.

ApplesTheHare · 08/04/2015 09:16

Haha Team I love hearing mum theories Grin My mum thought reflux was caused by newborn babies secretly stealing pieces of food Confused

Anyway I'm not sure if there's anything to your mum's theory but dd has no teeth and is on 3 meals per day and down to 4 6oz bottles per day. I did start early with her due to reflux though, and she's 7 months so she's had a while to get into food. She loves toast/bread with cream cheese/humous/taramasalata/jam/yoghurt/eggs/fruit/veg purée and tends to suck then chew, so no choking. Give it a go!

Ella maybe your nephew will benefit from being around your boys, as they sound lovely. Perhaps some of it will rub off...?? Agree though it sounds like she's too busy feeling sorry for him to parent him.

ApplesTheHare · 08/04/2015 09:19

For those of you struggling with spitting out water, we've started to give dd the sippy cup then immediately take it away when she's had a sip so she swallows it. Previously she'd chug a ton of water then spit it all over herself. It does mean endlessly wafting the cup at her but I'm hoping she'll get over the spitting thing if I don't give her chance to do it...

KitKat1985 · 08/04/2015 09:24

Re: sippy cups, how much water should a baby our age have a day? I reckon Jessica only has about 50-100mls most days, although as I say she does have a lot of milk at the moment. x

TeamEponine · 08/04/2015 09:41

Apples - is your little one still on ranitidine? I have a feeling they might be. If they are, are you doing anything different with weaning as a result? I'd like to start DD on some chicken and fish, but DH isn't keen. He thinks that ranitidine suppresses stomach acid production, and therefore meats may be harder to digest. I'm not sure whether I think he's mad, or whether he has a point!

I have a sippy cup with a silicon tip that means she has to suck to get water out. A proper sippy cup just lead to a waterfall and entire outfit change at each meal. I'm also having to take it away quickly. She's fine with swallowing a small amount of water, but if I don't take the cup away she just fills her mouth right up and then spits it out like a fountain.

Had a funny night last night. She needed settling about once an hour, but wasn't too interested in having milk. Over the past week she's gone from three to two bottles over night, but last night it was 1.5 bottles, and very begrudgingly. I get the feeling that something is changing with nights, hopefully she's going to start sleeping a little better. Wishful thinking?!?

Loving the gorgeous weather. We spent yesterday afternoon in the garden and it was lovely Grin

FATEdestiny · 08/04/2015 10:26

KitKat - she's possibly getting enough fluids from milk. Sloppy foods (like purees) are also a source of fluids remember. I'm not sure how much they are supposed to have, I guess it depends on size and metabolism. I am lead by the state of poos (sorry, TMI) and generally assume that harder poos means not enough water.

Three bigger kids just gone on a sleepover at my Mums. Idyllic couple of days just me, DH and baby.

FATEdestiny · 08/04/2015 12:58

First tooth has appeared today. Smile

holls2000 · 08/04/2015 15:57

B loves food. However, today there is a lot of grunting and groaning to poo. Have done the Orange juice in water thing, puréed prunes with yoghurt, and still nowt. Add to that dribble monster and a glowing red check and my little man is a bit sad.

TeamEponine · 08/04/2015 16:32

Holls - maybe try mango? I've been told that is very effective Grin

No hint of teeth here yet.

ApplesTheHare · 08/04/2015 17:09

FATE Grin to a tooth, very jealous as we have none here!

Team dd's not taking any meds for reflux now. Weaning has almost entirely cured it, though we did find fruit used to set it off. She's better with fruit now and I was worried about heavier foods like meat but it's been fine. She'll get a touch of it occasionally but 5 mins with her dummy (which she has zero interest in usually until it's nap time) really helps. I see your DH's point about ranitidine, but thought it worked by bringing acid production down to more normal levels, which are presumably better for digesting food, rather than reducing it to a level whereby the baby can't digest food. I think you'd be seeing if if she was struggling to digest certain things.

Ella bloody well done you! Taking those first few steps are the hardest but before you know it you'll (probably!) enjoy sweating in public. Exercise does make you feel so good... In fact I'm so inspired by your motivation that I'm going to walk the dog this evening in the sunshine Smile

holls2000 · 08/04/2015 17:21

I find banana makes b a bit reflect. Having a month off then will try again.

Still no poo.

However we have played with water in the garden and he is now in the middle of our fat boy beanbag where he can sit safely as surrounded by beans and is happy as Larry for the moment

OP posts:
holls2000 · 08/04/2015 17:21

refluxy. Not reflect. Obvs.
