I have a mei tai and love it. As long as you cross the straps as far down your back as possible it's really comfy. Borrowing a connecta when we go to France in June.

Annarose2014 · 24/04/2015 12:44

I've borrowed a couple of MeiTeis from the Sling Library but didn't like them. They kept stetching/dragging whilst on me & DS would freak. I also found the ties too long and cumbersome to fix with a cranky baby on you. They kept tangling around my legs!

Find the Ergo 1000 times better. Piece of piss to snap on in a random supermarket car park & DS likes it. I borrowed this one but we're def buying our own next month.

ladydolly · 24/04/2015 16:43

I love my ergo, one has just been listed on facebook group 'affordable baby slings for sale or swap' for £70 which is a great price if you're ready to purchase?

catg83 · 24/04/2015 17:03

I am borrowing a mei tai from a sling library at the mo. I love it and it is beautiful. DP hates it. Feels it digs in his (not petite) belly and wants ones with clips so we are going to try a connecta or ergo next. DS does seem to like the mei tai but he takes pretty well to all the carriers we have tried before. x

Strawberryfield12 · 24/04/2015 17:48

Got DD for the first time nap in her cot bed in the nursery, it's been a whole hour since she has been asleep!!

haventgotaclue1 · 24/04/2015 21:00

I've just ordered a Kari Me sling having tried out a friend's. We have a BabyBjorn carrier which I really can't get on with - it always seems that DD is slipping further and further down in it...whereas the Kari Me was really comfy (and hopefully easier on my dodgy back!).

Another one here who had 2.5 hours of on / off screaming last night when trying to get DD to bed...may be it's due to the weather - yesterday it was pretty warm in her room (23 degrees) - we're thinking we're going to have to move her somewhere else if it's that warm in April! Tonight has been much better so far - DH able to get her in the cot bed by 6.50; went back up when she cried at 7.50; she downed 100ml of FF in 4 mins and he was back downstairs by 7.59 Grin. Now I'm off to bed - hope everyone else has a good night!

Annarose2014 · 24/04/2015 21:38

ladydolly DH wants to buy a new one with a newborn insert........for the next one, gulp! Blush

Last night DS was awake every half hour.....tonight there hasn't been a peep out of him since 6pm. I'm kinda afraid, lol. This is going to be a very good night or a very bad night!

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 25/04/2015 00:09

Anna the ergo has been on offer recently a couple of times on Amazon so worth keeping an eye on it was something like £90 with insert I think

MrsAukerman · 25/04/2015 01:48

I saw it go down to around £60 if you had prime. Make sure it's direct from amazon or another genuine stockist though as there are lots of fakes which may not be safe.
Keep your proof of purchase etc for when you sell on too.

haventgotaclue1 · 25/04/2015 07:12

Hope you had a very good night anna!
Dd still asleep! Well, she did wake up a few times during the night but quickly self settled herself back to sleep! I, on the other hand, have been awake since 2.10am and completely unable to go back to sleep Sad WHY? ???

happypotamus · 25/04/2015 09:06

I have arranged to go out on Monday evening leaving DH with both girls at bedtime. I used to do a volunteer thing but haven't been since DD2 was born. They are desperate for an extra person next week so I agreed. Remember how last week DH took the girls to the park for a hour, the first time he had spent any time with DD2 without me? Well, on Monday I will be out for about 2.5hrs, and DD1 at least needs to be put to bed in that time, not sure if this is a good idea but they will survive because they have to. We don't know if DD2 will drink from a bottle, and all the frozen EBM had to be thrown away the other day when the freezer was accidentally switched off, so will have to sort some more and see what she makes of it. First to get through DD1's birthdat party with pre-school friends at soft play.

Thisisimpossible · 25/04/2015 09:43

Thanks loads for all the suggestions ladies. I've requested a join on the Facebook group and the Amazon Prime thing was good news.

Good luck for Monday happy and huge sympathy to everyone else who's not getting any sleep. We had another awful night which was gutting as the night before was ok. Oh well.

ladydolly · 25/04/2015 10:06

happy Similar situation here (albeit just the one dc!). I booked a spa day about 9 months ago, we're going ob Monday and dd still won't take the bottle. She'll chew on the teat and some milk accidentally gets swallowed but that's it. Also the longest dp has had her for, he normally does a couple of hours and just walks her in the pram the whole time. I'm kind of looking forward to him realising how hard it is.

At 9.30 this morning he was making me take photos of them in matching football kits and couldn't understand why I had no patience for the lighting not being right. By this point I had been up for nearly 4 hours but hadn't managed to even get showered or dressed. dp meanwhile had been up 2 hours, had 2 breakfasts, had his hair cut (by me), showered and dressed ready for his day at the football... I just felt a little hard done by.

I'll definitely be investing in a newborn insert when next time comes around. I was only 7 months old when my mum got pregnant with my sister... it made me wonder who on here will be first with a big announcement!! (how terrifying!!)

MrsAukerman · 25/04/2015 10:22

Well we're only using Bf as contraception!

Annarose2014 · 25/04/2015 11:53

It ended up being a shit night unfortunately. Every night this week has been the same - awake at 3.10..... And then refusing to resettle for an hour and a half, at the end of which a tearful Mummy doses baby with Nurofen in utter desperation. Then he still only sleeps till 6.15. Thank God DH always takes him then and gives me a couple of hours sleep or I'd be a basket case.

However you can see the effects of this growth spurt - Ds seems huge and suddenly weighs a ton! He looks like a toddler! Yet he still can't sit up for more tan a few secs, lol.

We are going to start trying for a baby in about Aug-Sept. Its not through choice, tbh, its because I'm 40 so haven't the luxury of waiting longer. I kinda dread having two under two but really really really want DS to have a sibling as I'm consious that his Dad will be already retired by the time he's 20! I (obvs) had an older parents - Mum & Dad were over 40 when I was born, and look what happened. Still waiting on a N.H. place for Mum but in the meantime she's a real worry as she's so elderly and wobbly. I couldn't have dealt with it all alone, tbh. The burden of care is huge.

Ugh, the thoughts of being pregnant again! Dread it!

Annarose2014 · 25/04/2015 11:58

Also, I'm a bit baffled by how we can shag enough for conception purposes with a badly sleeping baby in the same room!

We've started doing it again but its still few and far between and only on the living room floor as we don't want to wake the baby! Blush

happypotamus · 25/04/2015 15:01

I just glanced at the fist post on this thread about someone putting a nappy in the washing machine. Nearly 2 moths have gone by, we are at the weaning stage, and one day this week I found a wedge of sweet potato in the washing machine when I took the clothes out!

omama · 25/04/2015 22:31

Hi ladies not posted for a few days & see that everyone else seems to be having a similarly rough time. Shock which wonder week is this then?

DD has finally got over her cold & her teeth cutting, but her sleep this week has been horrific. Her naps have mostly been ridiculously short (like 20 mins max) unless held by me & she is that exhausted by tea time she wants to crash out but if I Iet her then she wont settle at bedtime. At night she has been thrashing around & waking every half hour or so almost all night long.

I went to see the health visitor in desperation for some advice & she suggested 1) had i thought about nursery Hmm 2) weaning her & 3) cutting out her one night feed & give her water instead. I was completely gobsmacked by suggestion 1 since I was hoping for practical advice & not the implication I need to palm her off on someone else because I cant cope. Hmm She isnt waking repeatedly at night for feeds, she has one & goes right back to sleep after it & definitely needs it as her 4 daytime feeds are still only 5oz.

Well last night was much cooler & dd slept so much better that I think a big part of the problem has been her eczema. It has really flared up in the hot weather & i think the unsettledness is due to itching. Cooler again today & she actually napped for 2hrs in her cot this morning so sure this must be the culprit. Back to the gp we go!

Re slings/mei tais - I just tried a hop tye at sling library this week & its fab - would def recommend. Very comfy & supportive as has wrap straps. I've started wrapping dd as not getting on very well with my buckles but think am gonna get a hop tye too for outings as it'llpack up nice & small in my bag.

Awww talking of 2nd babies already!!! I'm trying to savour every moment with dd as she will be my last. It took 2 years ttc & a mmc to get pg with dd & I couldnt face going through that all again.

Floopledoop · 25/04/2015 23:57

New low in motherhood. Away for a wedding, left DS at home with my parents. Enjoyed the night out but forgot crucial part of breast pump so currently hand expressing into hotel bathroom sink while incredibly drunk DH staggered around and keeps barging in!

How is he more drunk than I am after I've had almost 18 months with basically 0 booze! Also, I know he is going to drunkenly try it on and I really don't want to dtd! Looking forward to a whole night without being touched by anyone to be honest. Hope he is asleep by the time I have dealt with my rock hard boobs.

Annarose2014 · 26/04/2015 08:12

Well now you have to tell us what happened! Grin

omama I honestly think that this growth spurt has to be waited out. Cos we're on two meals a day and his normal amt of bottles and its made damn all difference. Actually he drank 3 bottles during the night last night! I suspect that during a growth spurt they need more feeding, not less.

Last night was better just cos it was the first night all week where he didn't decide to be up for the day at 3am. He woke up loads but actually did go back to sleep each time. So.....yay? I guess? Hmm

Met a girl I know yesterday and typical me, offered her a hold of the baby straight away. She did and was playing with him etc but then told me she had a m/c 4 weeks ago! Blush I was so apologetic but she said it was OK cos DS wasn't too small - its the newborns that get to her most. Still - HORRIFIED. I knew she had fertility issues always but she has always loved holding babies as she has a big family. So it would have been harmless normally. But not after a m/c! Shock I was so upset for her. I remembered to not say anything crass or glib and just said "There's nothing I can say but I'm so sorry"

I was actually quite emotional afterwards thinking of her. The worst part is that when Dad died I prayed to him at the funeral to put a word in about giving her a baby at last. I'm not religious but thought it wouldn't hurt. But turns out she had gone in for a D&C that day! I guess it was too late.

Floopledoop · 26/04/2015 08:32

He was asleep by the time I de-rockedy boobs. Thank heaven for small mercies! I had to undress him as he was incredibly drunk which is not much of a turn on! Also, have only dtd once since DS was born.

happypotamus · 26/04/2015 09:15

My Baby is 6 months old today! How has that happened so quickly?

Strawberryfield12 · 26/04/2015 09:57

omama the older my DD grows the more I start to believe that the best I can do for my daughter and myself is to keep us in distance from all sorts of baby experts. Simply because they are directly interested into you and your LO having issues otherwise they will be out of job. If you don't have problems they will create them. The nursery suggestion is worth a million, should we all get night time nannies for the babies who wake up during the night as well?!

omama · 26/04/2015 10:38

Strawberry after that I am inclined to agree! Stupid bloody woman! I havent been to see hv nearly as much this time as I did with ds but hadnt had her weighed for 2 months hence my visit. Think it'll be quite a while before I go again & I think I'll just nod & smile politely when they ask if everything is ok.

I'm not sure we're in WW territory at the mo, dd is just turned 5 months? I'm sure her current problem is itching - her whole torso is red & angry, inflamed & dry & she is constantly clawing at it. Sad We have a drs appt Tuesday to discuss next steps as we are already using hydrocortisone & emollients & keeping her cool at night. She is exactly like ds & the only thing that cleared his up was going dairy free.
