I suddenly realised I didn't have a silly Christmas name!

Easily rectified!

SparklyfestiveYellowFeathers · 11/11/2006 18:27

Thats fabbo Eeny
I tell you its bloody hard work with 2, espeically at the age Madison is at. But it can be oh so rewarding.

and no you havent missed X Factor. Dont think I want any of them to go tonight!

The nintendo is small but there are 2 screens. If you imagine this screen but narrowed. You just have to scroll down a bit more

sarahlou1uk · 11/11/2006 19:10

Well it's just took me about 40 mins to catch up with all the gossip! I'm now feeling left out and want a xmas name! Will have to try and think of one . Glad to hear lots of you are enjoying babies. Sal - nice to hear from you.

Molly is now nearly 12 weeks (on Monday) and last Monday weighed 13lb 8oz. We've got to go and see a childrens dentist in 2 weeks time because of the tooth she was born with and the other one that appears to be growing upwards and outwards! Not looking forward to that because you have to pull her bottom lip really down to see the tooth. Don't know what they can do, but I hope they can do something. The tooth that's already there and growing is now causing an ulcer on the bottom of her tongue, hence the clinginess and constant dribbling. HV said it's because her tongue is still very soft and hasn't hardened up yet as teeth don't come until around 6 months. Have bought some teething gel to put on but can't get it exactly on the spot . Will have to keep trying.

Hope everyone else ok. Eeny - I'm glad Alex likes his swing. Molly seems to have grown out of hers at the moment - more happy being in the swing (in the house) or in the pram when out and about.

olivhohoho · 11/11/2006 19:42

evening all! dd fell asleep downstairs just before bathtime so i've left her and am sneaking some 'me time'! the bath can wait....! she looks soooo cute sucking her thumb !

great to hear from those who havent been around for a little while.

eeny - no chance of me making it over the england i'm afraid, wont be making any trips we havent already paid for - i'm skint . my maternity pay has now come to an end too

am very of the nintendo YF!

eenysugarplumfairy · 11/11/2006 20:24

Olivo love the name - Sarahlou you must think of something festive! If I think of anything for you I will let you know!

Olivo its a shame you couldnt make it over here but I thought it was a long shot! IT wont be the same without you adn Pink

Sarahlou, I hope everything goes well with DD's tooth. Poor baby!

Yellow did you watch the X factor? Who do you like? I like Leona.

SparklyfestiveYellowFeathers · 11/11/2006 20:39

Arghhh I hate Leona. No offence Eeny but she is trying to hard to be like an American singer, a la Christina or Mariah. I hate that. I wish she'd sort out that blummin wobbly lip of hers.
I loved Eton Road and Robert

sarahlou1uk · 11/11/2006 22:29

I like Ben (goes all dreamy eyed and wanders off on a cloud with Ben.......) Sorry, back to earth now. Good job dh is busy watching some volcano film on sky! I have taped the show and the results because it clashed with dancing on bbc1. Yes, I know I'm sad but I like it!

I like Robert's voice as well but agree with YF re Leona - sounds too much like Mariah for my liking. All that up and down really annoys me. Why can't she sing properly as my nan would say?! I hope the McDonalds have gone this week. God knows how they got into the final!

Still trying to think of a nice new name!

PinkTinsel · 12/11/2006 13:49

i'm gutted that i won't be able to come too eeny but am in the same boat as olivo, just don't have a penny to spare til god knows when. dp's got another job interview this week and if he gets it we'll have to move house (right before xmas, eek!) and if he doesn't we're going to have a f*#king miserable xmas

very of the ds too feathers, have been dying to get one.

sorry to hear molly's tooth is causing her grief sarah, hope the dentist can help. is it likely to have to be pulled? seem to remember reading babies born with teeth usually need them removed. hows the course going? are you still enjoying it? must be lovely to have a day of you-time, even if it is work!

SparklyfestiveYellowFeathers · 12/11/2006 15:27

I think you should all aim to get a ds.
Then we can all download msn onto them and chat in bed lol
I paid £135 altogether for a ds lite, brain training and the browser to do the internet. All from Amazon.

Sarahlou, poor dd! Is she quite grizzly with it or is she coping ok?

Pinky, fingers crossed for your dp. Hope he gets the job. Sending positive vibes over to Ireland!

I'm not so sure if we'll be able to make it to the meet up. Because I dont drive, I soley rely on dh to take me everywhere and because he works full time too, I think it would be a bit much to ask to get him to drive to Birmingham on his day off. I have asked him and all I can say is that I'm still working on him

Ellis has started to laugh today. Its so cute
I've been holding his hands and getting him to clap while screeching yey and it seems to do the trick lol.

I know its still a way off yet but has anyone thought about weaning yet? I know you mentioned it SBoo.
I quite famcied the idea of BLW but not sure if I should with the reflux and all.
Just a thought.

eenysugarplumfairy · 12/11/2006 17:27

just about to read and catch up on the thread but wanted to post this, I have just copied and pasted it from a thread I started:

I have posted about this in the past and also called NCT and LaLeche about it - for some reason my baby (almost 14 weeks old) does this thing where he kicks and screams RANDOMLY during BFing. Its as if there is no milk. So I take him of the breast, give it a little squeeze and it squirts across the room!! So I know there is at least SOME milk! So I put him back on and the same thing happens again. He gets SO distressed and really cries and twists around and squirms. So I have broken down and given him a bottle (formula, not EBM) and he takes it like he is STARVING to death. It is so horrible and upsetting to see him so distressed like that.

This started many weeks ago but now it is a daily event. Usually only in the day time feeds.

So today after yet another distressing feed I made the decision to cut out his day time breast feeds. I will BF him for his first feed of the day and also his bedtime feed because I cant bear to let it go altogether and so far he has never kicked off during THOSE feeds. The rest of the day he will have formula as I cant possibly express all that it takes me about 30 mins to get 2 ounces out.

I am trying to console myself that he has been primarily BF for over 3 months AND he will still have 2 breast feeds a day. Anyone have a similar experience to me? I plan on BFing him til he is about a year old if I can.

Sorry so long!

PinkTinsel · 12/11/2006 17:39

oh eeny

caleb does that and it wrecks my head. i either take him of and try when he's calmer or use his dummy to get him sucking and do a quick switch.

if you want to use formula go for it but if you really would rather not they do grow out of it, its just a phase when they start to get ,ore aware of their surroundings. it also has to do with them losing the instictive sucking reflex. up til now anything that touched the roof of his mouth triggered it but now he has to to it of his own accord and when they're tired or cross they don't understsnd why the milk isn't coming out as they haven't yet gotton used to choosing to suck. HTH babe

feathers, i'm going with blw this time as it sounds great not pureeing! with dd i weaned at 4.5 months due to the reflux but tbh it didn't make a scrap of differance til she was one chunkier food at 6/7 months and was drinking less milk. thats just my experiance though and lord knows dd is awkward about everything so ellis might react differantly!

eenysugarplumfairy · 12/11/2006 17:42

just caught up!

Pink I am REALLY crossing my fingers for you!

I know what you mean about Leona actually but I think she is best about seeming to sing with some feeling. Sorry Sarahlou but Ben annoys me he just seems to shout a lot! I dont like the scratchy voice thing. Anyway you keep on dreaming about him though! Its funny because I hate all the singers like Christina and Mariah etc. so I dont know why I like Leona. I wouldnt buy her CDs or anything!

Yellow I would love a DS that would be cool! We have thought of weaning - we got a highchair on Friday even though its a long way off! We wont even consider weaning him now til he is at least 4 months - I have a brilliant healthy recipe for baby's first food - or rather I am about to get it off my SIL - when I do I will post it on here. Her DD was weaned on it and she is healthy as a horse! So cute at Ellis laughing, its brilliant isnt it !

eenysugarplumfairy · 12/11/2006 17:43

Sorry what is BLW?

eenysugarplumfairy · 12/11/2006 17:44

Pink the thing is I really can not get him to BF. He just wont do it he just gets more and more distressed til he is in a total state.

PinkTinsel · 12/11/2006 17:45

baby led weaning. it means waiting til 6+ months and letting them wean themselves on finger food and stuff. theres ppiles of threads on it if you search archives.... the experianced moms who'vew done it explain it better than me!

PinkTinsel · 12/11/2006 17:47

yeah, caleb does that. if he really won't feed and the dummy trick doesn't work i just stop and leave it a good while til hes calm. its bloody frustrating though, for all her difficulties dd never went as mad as he does!

PinkTinsel · 12/11/2006 17:48

sorry about even worse than usual typing btw left handed typing as caleb is asleep on my other hand

eenysugarplumfairy · 12/11/2006 17:54

If me and Alex we more successful at BFing I can see us waiting til 6 months but as it is I dont know if we will. We'll have to wait and see. I am sad it hasnt gone better.

PinkTinsel · 12/11/2006 17:55

{{{hugs}}} for both of you, you've done brilliantly babe

eenysugarplumfairy · 12/11/2006 17:58

thanks. I wish it was for me the way it is for you and other BFing friends I have.

eenysugarplumfairy · 12/11/2006 18:03

unrelated subject but does anyone else get paralysed with fear of sids?

sarahlou1uk · 12/11/2006 18:10

Eeny - it's what every parent worries about!!! I use to panic if I couldn't hear Jack breathing - I use to wake him up so that I knew he was OK!!!

With Molly, I'm more relaxed but still cautious. If she's slept through the night, I can't help but wake in a cold sweat and wonder if she's made it through the night OK. Sometimes I dread going into her room to check. But then I hear her on the monitor and I breathe again, or I hear her snoring when I go in the door. Sometimes the monitor doesn't pick up everything and you start to worry. It's only natural so don't worry yourself about worrying!!!

PinkTinsel · 12/11/2006 18:21

i did with dd but less so with caleb, although i have my moments when he's just being too quiet iykwim!

eenysugarplumfairy · 12/11/2006 18:36

I know its every parents worst nightmare. I just feel like having Alex is too good to be true and I will lose him... I feel like that sometimes.

SparklyfestiveYellowFeathers · 12/11/2006 18:44

Do you know thats one thing I have never worried about with either of my two.
I dont see how it can be a problem if everything is done correctly. I.e. not lots of sheets, feet to foot, nothing in the cot etc.

Eeny, if you do fancy the idea of BLW, I think its Zippitippitoes that has a site about it. It lists allt he foods you can BLW with and what to do with it. Some foods need no prep at all, other like some veg will need to be boiled a touch to make them slightly soft.
I just think its got to be so much easier but having said that when I weaned dd I would spend a good few hours one day in the kitchen making up batches of different foods for her and freezing them. Then I didnt have to worry about it for a few weeks until the supply was down.
I'll have to see though, if ellis shows signs of ready to wean at 4 months or 5 then I'm knacked but if we can hold out till 6 then I',m going for BLW.
