how long did it take before your tummy went back to normal after childbirth? I had DS two weeks ago and basically look a bit like a Vietnamese potbellied pig. the rest of me is skinny but my stomach was massive by the end and now is like an empty handbag..

niceglasses · 21/10/2006 19:29

Well its 6 yrs and I'm still waiting.

foxinsocks · 21/10/2006 19:31

mine was never the same however

about 4 years after my last child, several bouts of winter vomiting disease and a long bout of gastric flu it now resembles my old tummy but is definitely not as flat or toned (ok, it's not flat or toned at all )

Ponka · 21/10/2006 19:55

First time it took about 6 months to go vaguely back but was never really like it was before.

2nd baby is 6 months and I still look about 20 weeks. People still ask me when it's due. I have separation of the tummy muscles and go to physio sessions. If you think you may have this, you could ask your HV to have a look next time you go but midwives generally do look for this when examining ladies after the birth and pick it up if it is there. Doing pelvic floors is a good way to start getting back into shape very early on. Perhaps your HV could recommend some excercises suitable for you?

Tommy · 21/10/2006 20:00

hasn't so far......

What's that, Mrs Darcy? Being asked if you are pregnant or tummy muscle problems?

Are you O.K, Gemmitygem? Not the answers you were hoping to hear, are they?

mrsdarcy · 22/10/2006 18:37

sorry - tummy muscles. Horrible isn't it?

Gemmitygem · 22/10/2006 18:45

hmm... thanks for the replies; I'm REALLY worried now! . Well, I spose all I can do is do a lot of exercise. Like kama, I did loads of ex during the pregnancy and only gained weight of the baby plus tits, so I'm hoping it will go back, but I'm a very unmuscly person (kind of like those Tony Hart characters, was it Morph?), so it could be a struggle.

Anyway at least my lady bits are totally undamaged by childbirth, which I still can't believe, so there is a God... (thanks to perineal massage and a last minute application of Clarins oil in the delivery room!
