Here's hoping, anyway...

OP posts:

music - did he have the rotavirus drops? Its a live vaccine so could cause D&V symptoms. Or could equally be the cough. That said, reflux peaks at 2-4 months so could also be that. Not much help am I?! Maybe see the dr if doesnt improve in next few days. Is he on reflux meds?

DD is slowly getting better at self settling in her cot. She was asleep by 7pm last night & actually self settled for a nap in there this morning. Only 20mins but progress all the same. Now just need to work on catching her before she's overtired & resettling her when she wakes too soon!

Thisisimpossible · 23/02/2015 15:44

Ladydolly I'm bf too and we don't have a routine really. I feed twice during the night usually (once on two rare occasions!) between 9pm and 7am and I have no idea how often during the day. Whenever his lordship dictates! It seems to depend on whether he's having a growth spurt or not.

The last two weeks have been particularly hard. DS has been very grumpy and unsettled. I hope he's probably having a growth/development period, Otherwise I'm a crap mother who's getting it wrong constantly!

We also moved DS into his room and cot this weekend. He's got the Moses basket in his cot for the moment whilst he gets used to the new room, and I'm sleeping on the single bed in there with him. He's nearly outgrown his Moses basket. 12 weeks this week and just over 14lbs. Where did my tiny baby go?

It's the first time we've used the monitor having always had him with us before day and night. I had to keep creeping in and out of his room to check he was ok when he was quiet - I can't quite bring myself to trust it fully yet.

Annarose2014 · 23/02/2015 17:01

How long are you planning on sleeping in there with him?

I've decided I'm too lazy to either stir from my own bed or cross a cold landing so I'm going to have him in our room until he sleeps through. So he may be in with us for a couple of years yet!

Though the last two nights he's dropped his 11.30pm feed and slept 6.30pm-12.45am instead, taking an unprecedented 5oz then. On the one hand I'm very VERY excited by this, but on the other I'm not sleeping till 1am as I'm constantly on the alert for sounds of stirring from about 10.30 onwards just in case.

Then this morning he fed again at 4am and afterwards kept groaning and moaning and sighing despite me shivering beside him rocking him for ages. At 5.30am I just gave up and came downstairs and he went mad in his baby gym.

So basically I only slept from 1-4! How do we keep functioning?!

Arkkorox · 23/02/2015 17:08

I had a night like that on Saturday anna Dd fell asleep at half 10 but I didn't get to bed till 1, she woke up at 2 and was up till 5:30 then back up at 7. How I got through yesterday I have no idea!

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 24/02/2015 02:45

Well we have gone from sleeping reasonably well 4hrs then 3hrs and then hrly with rare occasions of 6-7hrs at first stint to a v crap few nights of 2-3hrs then 2hrs n hrly it's like having a newborn again!

Tends to be screaming for food in day then not feeding, refuses breast n has never really fed from a bottle n refuses all bottles we have.

Bedtime feed is having good feed n feeding really well in night now!!

Going to try n persist tommorow n get him to feed

He does have reflux it's more silent reflux n you hear it come up n go back down but it doesn't seem to bad at / night he is on meds for it.

Thisisimpossible · 24/02/2015 09:25

Anna probably for the next 3 months or so until he's going through the night. I really miss sleeping with DP (we've swapped rooms because DS's cot's in the spare room) but he's like a bear with a sore head if he doesn't get enough sleep. And as he's the one supporting us all at the moment we agreed I'd do the night shifts so he could function during the day Grin

omama · 24/02/2015 14:53

We had a rubbish night last night too! Thought bedtime would go ok as she'd napped pretty well yest but it was hard work, then I lost count of how many times I got up to her in the night last night - fed twice but the rest were resettles. She was up for a good hour after her 5.30am feed & consequently has had a monster nap today from 11-2.30 so hoping this doesnt upset tonight!

amy83firsttimer · 24/02/2015 17:14

Excellent day here after a bad night. Up about 4 times in the night but finally went swimming this morning ( Catg)
Big success. He loved it and I even dunked him. Decent nap after that and then another one in the pram this afternoon. DH has been off today and it's been nice to have a successful day with him around because normally he upsets my rhythms with baby. He's currently sat on sofa with him playing guitar. Cute.

Floopledoop · 24/02/2015 17:43

Well the swing crib in our room is a success and he had a nap in the cot bed yesterday so that is great news. He was up for an hour and a half for his night feed last night (woke up at 3:30) which is very unusual - hope it's better tonight.

Went to baby yoga today and then went out for lunch with most of the class which was lovely. Even better, he slept from when we left yoga till we got home so I got to eat lunch with 2 hands and I can't remember the last time I did that!

happypotamus · 24/02/2015 22:55

My baby also has a cold. Not sure where she got that from as the rest of us don't have one and we haven't been round anyone else. She has got a gunky eye too, and, although I am not sure whether it is related to the cold or not, has seemed much more refluxy the past few days. She has a hospital appointment tomorrow. Confusingly, I don't know what it is for. The appointment letter says follow-up appointment but she has never had any previous appointments so I don't know what they are following up! Will be interesting to find out!
I intended to go to the baby group at the children's centre today, but at the time we needed to leave she was having a long feed, I hadn't had lunch or made DH his lunch so it just didn't happen. Maybe I'll be more organised next week.

MusicAndBooks · 25/02/2015 19:48

Thanks Omama HV reckons the sickness is made worse because of his cough and might be the reflux returning too and should get better when he's weaned, don't want to wish the time away though!
Just wondered if anyone could recommend a thermometer? Is the Tommee Tippee one Amy good? Thanks

Strawberryfield12 · 25/02/2015 20:31

Been few days off the thread. I think DD has just gone through the 11 week dev. leap. She has started to move around by pushing heels against the ground. Especially when I change her - she moves away and I am chasing her with the nappy until eventually I get it around her. She has started to shout even more than before also, lots of new sounds coming out as well.

Floopledoop · 25/02/2015 20:37

strawb we've had lots of new sounds over the last few days too, had some almost laughter today-I am looking forward to full on giggles!

Took 30 mins, a mini feed and 3 settling visits and the Hoover but got him to nap in the cot bed for an hour this afternoon so feeling very proud! Meant to do all sorts of productive household jobs but read my book instead!

omama · 25/02/2015 21:27

Yay floop! We managed a cot nap today too - only 30 mins but at least its something. She's settled much better at bedtime tonight too.

We are also having lots of new sounds over the last few days, lots of shouts, oooh oooh's and cooing - its lovely. Today she has grabbed at & waved around a toy for the first time, has laughed at it when I cheeped it at her & has noticed a toy by her feet & kicked it with them. She is also twisting to the side a bit when I change her nappy - beginnings of trying to roll so I think I need to give her a bit more floor time/tummy time now if she'll tolerate it.

music sorry we only have an underarm digital thermometer & its crap! Must get one of those in ear thingy's so will also welcome any recommendations.

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 26/02/2015 05:54

Well after several days refusing daytime feeds and breastfeeding group peer supporters not having any idea the breastfeeding specialist hv came for an hr yesterday his latch is to shallow as although he had his anterior tongue tie cut at 8weeks it extends posterially and would benefit from having been cut further. He is 14 weeks now and she is emailing consultant as his March clinic is full and by April due to age he may say no.

She got him in a better position and showed me how to do deeper latch which is hard work as he is huge 16lb at 12weeks so I struggle and she was much more forceful than I had been about pushing him into to breast when screaming not his head but his shoulders she said guiding but def pushing n he did feed.

Still been up loads tonight and haven't worried about position will work on that in the day.

Got eye clinic with him later this morning as has a slight squint.

Annarose2014 · 26/02/2015 07:56

Gosh that sounds hard work! Sad

We had a crap night. All was going well till at 2.30am DS was wet through and we had to change every stitch. So of course he thinks its playtime! Full of smiles. Adorable, but bloody frustrating. He didn't go back to sleep for half an hour and only after a bottle.

Then PING! Up and awake for the day at 6am. Ugh.

catg83 · 26/02/2015 11:36

amy so chuffed it went well for you. I missed swimming today as we both slept through our alarm so hopefully will be able to go this weekend.

Well done on those of you getting in good naps. We have been away from home for the past 5 days and it has completely disrupted day time naps. Night time has been good but he has been a grumpy bugger during the day as he wouldn't nap. I think we thoroughly put off my brother having a baby when he grizzled the entire time we were with him.

amy83firsttimer · 26/02/2015 12:55

Annarose2014 that's nothing!!!!!! Milo was awake from 2.30 til gone 5! Then 45 mins then I can't even remember?! I think I lost my mind a bit last night. Took him to baby bliss at 9.30 and he's slept from 10.30 til now. I on the other hand have not. Hhhmmm. If he doesn't sleep tonight I might need to hand my notice in.....

Annarose2014 · 26/02/2015 13:15

Oh God thats awful!

What time is everyone going to bed/actually managing to fall asleep?

My problem is despite going to bed at 9.30 most nights, I don't fall asleep before midnight. This was OK when he had a feed at 11.30 as I'd fall asleep straight after, but now he's shifted that to 12.45am. So at midnight I'm still awake and know there's no point trying to sleep for 45 mins.

So its about 1.15 before I fall asleep every night!

amy83firsttimer · 26/02/2015 13:21

I.go.upstairs anywhere between 9.30 and 11.00. I.try to sleep straight away but often MN instead. DH is at the football tonight so I'm going to go to bed when baby does which is normally around 7.

ladydolly · 26/02/2015 14:16

dd goes to sleep between 7 and 8, I normally join her about 9 and am asleep at 9.01. Seriously though, I've always fallen asleep easily and it has made motherhood much easier. She then needs feeding 2 or 3 times and doesn't even wake up before my boob is in her mouth. Sometimes I wake up with my boob hanging out and have no idea how long she fed or how long I've been like that.

ladydolly · 26/02/2015 14:20

Sleep consultant at baby group yesterday, I don't know why I went, I knew it would make me feel bad. She said by 8-12 weeks babies should be sleeping 8 hours without waking, should have 3 naps a day and all should be over 1.5 hours, at least 1 should be 2-3 hours. Routines should start at 2 weeks. Should have a feeding routine of every 3 hours etc etc... babydolly is not up for ANY of that!!!

catg83 · 26/02/2015 15:35

ladydolly I am so tempted to tell you to ask her how many babies ACTUALLY do that. We are all SUPPOSED to do things but it never works out that way. Please don't feel bad. From what I read on here we are all doing our absolute best. Chin up. Thanks

catg83 · 26/02/2015 15:37

Annarose DS comes to bed with us about 9.30. He falls asleep about 10.30 and I do the same. I could fall asleep standing up though. I actually go to sleep listening to audio books so maybe that helps?

Strawberryfield12 · 26/02/2015 15:59

ladydolly I think it's b....ocks, or to be more polite a lame sales pitch. Once she stated all those things it indirectly implied that she is the one to sort everybody's babies out. Let's be proud our babies eat when they are hungry and sleep when they are tired, not because it's a routine. It just means that we are really cool mums, we haven't messed around with their ability to listen to their bodies. They will grow up and will be healthy adults who will know their bodies and will be able to help themselves before there is a need for doctors or something. :)

anna DD used to go to bed around 10- 11pm with 2-3am and 5-6am feeds, but since last week she has been tired and grizzly around 8pm, so been taking upstairs around 9pm and she has been flat out in 5-10 minutes. And now she is waking for feeds at 12-1am, 3-4am and 6-7am. So it's less uninterrupted sleep for me unfortunately as I don't go to sleep at the same time, but abuse Netflix and Kindle for couple of hours. She feeds very quickly and goes back to sleep immediately without rocking, but every time she makes "feed me" noises I am in disbelief if this is again the feeding time.
