Thanks Anna it's actually the dogs nickname but I love it!

Did my first session of the Davina 7 min work out today. Managed warm up and 1 work out before more food was required by his lordship. Hoping to fit in abs once he is done. Really need to shift some more weight and c section apron.

catg83 · 19/02/2015 12:58

Regarding Christening etc. We are both atheists and so is all my family. OH's grandmother and all his aunts are CofE and I have enjoyed the Christenings as a welcome to the family. We are going to just give DS a big 1st birthday party as a welcome to the world party too. Don't want a ceremony or anything but do like the celebration of family etc.

MusicAndBooks · 20/02/2015 03:17

Omama bad reaction to 2nd lot of injections here too, lots of bad nappies and been clingy and upset all week-literally can't put him down for a second. The nurse there were worse side effects on this second lots of injections, so I'm hoping things will start to settle down now.
Napping is hard in the day here with DS1 not giving me any time to put DS2 down in his basket so only get a nap in when DS1 is asleep for his afternoon sleep and then he'll only sleep on me. On the two mornings DS1 is at nursery I can get him to sleep an hour after his wake up time but only for about 20mins-need to dedicate some time to it I think

Floopledoop · 20/02/2015 09:23

Second set of jabs due week after next so not looking forward to that. Realised this morning that babyfloople is now too big for the Moses basket. Got a swing crib downstairs so going to bring that up and try him in that as neither DH nor I are ready to put him in his own room overnight. Have been putting this off for a few weeks tbh because he's spoilt us by being a good sleeper and I'm loath to change that.

Also need to get him napping in the cot in his room as he is sleeping on me during the day and want to nip that in the bud now. Sense next week is going to be tough!

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 20/02/2015 09:52

Well done cat nuk was only one baby would tolerate in mouth still won't drink from it n will tolerate a vittal breast like bottle. But again not drink from it

catg83 · 20/02/2015 13:25

Thanks east . It really did feel like a break through.

We are driving to London tonight and then Kent on Monday. By far the furthest we have driven with DS. I have packed a bag of plenty of snacks for us, audio book for me, snuggle blankets for DS and his favourite toys. Any body got any more advice on doing a 5 hour drive with a 12 week old?

Annarose2014 · 20/02/2015 13:52

Floople We moved the swing crib (which is marginally bigger) upstairs and actually popped the Moses basket in it so he'll get used to the swinging action whilst still being in familiar environs.

The swing crib is ten times better - I can just pop a toe out of bed and give it a nudge and it swings away! Bloody Moses basket rocker used to travel across the carpet, ugh.

ladydolly · 20/02/2015 14:36

Same here cat, we're off up north for the first time, normally 3 hours, definitely the longest trip for us. Babydolly has a stinker of a cold too. Tips also welcome.

Doea anyone have their dcs in the cot yet? dd is still in with me, she was napping in the cot but now we're focussing on getting her to self soothe then we'll move onto getting her into the cot. Thankfully, despite the cold, she does seem to be learning to get herself to sleep and did it 3 times yesterday incl bedtime and again today twice. I'm still feeding her first but this is still a huge improvement!!! So proud of her!

Floopledoop · 20/02/2015 16:29

anna thanks for the tip re swing crib. Like yours, ours is marginally bigger than the basket so it will probably only last another month or so, can't believe how fast he is growing!

After he's too big for the crib he is going to have to go in his own room as we've got a cot bed and it won't fit in our room. Hopefully, getting him used to napping in the cot bed now will help. He's got a baby sheepskin in the cot bed that he likes to lie on so I hope that helps with the napping.

lady excellent news on the self settling!

moggle · 20/02/2015 18:10

Haven't been on in a while- sounds like our little babies are starting to grow up! Hiya floop!

Had a lovely afternoon today- DD laid for 90 mins on the floor taking great interest in toys and a water bottle with glitter and beads in. Amazing! Makes up for her being awake for 2 hours in the middle of the night talking to herself, grr! But can't complain at all, amazing how quickly we've got used to her sleeping through the night. We've had a grizzly couple of weeks and it's been quite difficult - hoping that we're at the end of it now. Not sure if it was a reaction to second jabs, a growth spurt, or what.

My only tip for a long drive would be a spiral toy or similar that can go round the car seat handle and give them something to look at. Especially if there isn't anyone in the back with them. DD loves grabbing at the dangly things while I'm driving (though she usually is asleep for 90% of any journey...)

Lady dd has been in her cot in our room for a couple of weeks now. She took to it without any problems, it may help that my parents got her a really good mattress and a mattress topper so it's very comfortable. I put her down in the cot at about 7 and put the video monitor on until I go to bed about 10/11. I do still occasionally go and check that she's ok but the monitor is really clear. I know you're supposed to keep them in the same room as you but she only just fits in the mosses basket now (she's 14 pounds now) and she won't settle downstairs with all the noise. I've just got to crack getting her to have a sleep in the cot during the day, she doesn't like it at the mo.

omama · 20/02/2015 20:13

Welcome floop & Music!

Music - ah that explains it if nurse said worse side effects likely this time. Although poor dd has also caught a cold from ds, she looks dreadful, is snotty & barking like a seal Sad. Yesterday she barely slept & was a screaming wreck by mid afternoon.

I'd been feeling like a really rubbish mum as ds has spent most of his half term week sitting quietly while I try to deal with a very unsettled dd, when we should be out having fun. Anyway today dh took the day off & we had a lovely family day out, dd slept most of the day so I was able to have quality time with ds - really made up for the rest of the week.

lady we put dd in the cot in our room for the first time last night. She slept in it no problem (just settled her with my hand on her) & hoping tonight will be the same if she ever nods off! Like Caz I think she actually settles better for being away from the noise & its also nice & dark up here so no distractions! Now to work on daytime naps.......

ladydolly · 20/02/2015 21:04

I'm really hoping she'll take to the cot. I'll stay in the room with her at first (in bed of course). She's got herself off to sleep again tonight which I know is what I've desperately wanted but now I feel really sad that she doesn't need me. I'm getting so clingy with her and I always swore I'd be relaxed and rational. Damn hormones!

She's got a rotten cold and gave up at baby sensory after about 15 mins and just wanted to cuddle. She then slept on me for 3 hours this afternoon (followed by a 1 hour feed) I thought I'd be in trouble tonight but she obviously needed the rest bless her.

Right I'm off for an early night so I can be with my baby

Floopledoop · 21/02/2015 07:13

Swing crib was a success last night. He slept his usual 5 hour stints with a feed inbetween.

Got my first proper night out tonight, 50 shades at the cinema then out for a meal. Got a fridge full of breastmilk that I've been expressing for weeks. Surprise surprise though, DH is taking babyfloople round to his parents. They are lovely so don't mind on that front but sort of wish he'd stay in with the baby on his own so he knows what it's like. I know he is capable of looking after him as he's a great dad. Going to the in laws feels a bit like a cop out cause MIL will have him the whole time he is there.

Floopledoop · 21/02/2015 07:20

ladydolly I know what you mean about wanting them to be more independent and then being sad when they are!

V hard to be rational and relaxed sometimes

ladydolly · 21/02/2015 07:46

floople I text my sis for more reassurance about being irrational!
I have the same thing with dp, whenever I leave them for an hour he either takes her for a walk or a drive. I'd like him to see what its like being at home with her really. Although he often says he doesn't know how I do it so at least he doesn't think its a walk in the park.

Well I got what I asked for, she needed me, all night, feeds every 90 minutes. We were due to leave at 7 and at 6.35 she was still on the boob after over an hour. Best laid plans!

omama · 21/02/2015 21:10

Awww ladydolly ikwym about them needing you - I had exact same discussion with dh yest. I like the snuggly cuddles but the impracticality of having her fall asleep on me wins out. I can't keep doing it with ds to look after too.

We are having fun & games getting dd settled in the cot. She just won't. bloody. well. give. in. If I stay with her she doesnt cry but her arms are flailing, legs kicking, head shaking, dummy in, then out, then in, grabbing at me etc - takes 1-2 hrs for her to fall asleep. I've tried an earlier bedtime incase she's overtired (naps have completely gone to pot unless we go out - max 10mins in the cot Hmm) but still the same. Anyone else have this?

Meant to say the other day was surprised how many mentioned their dc's are playing with toys/have a favourite toy. DD has shown zero interest in her toys whatsoever yet - so far her favourite thing to do is watch ds or smile at/interact with us. Am now wondering if because I havent the time to spend playing with her like I did with ds, or that she's not quite developmentally there yet. If she'd come when ready she'd only be 10 weeks.

For those of you who ff - how long are your lo's going between feeds & how much are they having? DD is going around 4hrs now but is still only having around 4oz per feed & it doesnt seem much to me. Hmm She has 1 bigger feed of 6oz at night, sometimes another smaller feed of 3-4oz but if she has that then she wont feed in the morning. So different to my ds who guzzled tons!!!

Annarose2014 · 21/02/2015 22:25

Mine feeds every three hours and tbh sometimes starts whinging for his feed at 2.5 hours. Not ideal at all, but I just can't see him ever stretching to 4 hrs. He takes 4 or 5oz per feed during the day and about 2 or 3 oz per night feed (there are three of those).

So he feeds little and often. He's massive now, he's long legged too so he looks like a bloody toddler.

Btw, if DS doesn't settle in the cot I do a bit of PU/PD. Pick him up, tuck him under my chin and rock back and forth until he calms down, then as soon as he does pop him back down (on his side always - they seem to resist it less and he flops backwards when in deep sleep). Then if he still doesn't settle, repeat as often as required. Usually works pretty quickly here.

utopian99 · 22/02/2015 07:46

A is bf still so no help on the ff front I'm afraid.
I was pleasantly surprised by his sleeping a couple of weeks back, compared to ds1 he was going down at 8 ish and doing 3 hr stints but with the jabs and Yet Another cold he's now doing 2-2.5 hours at the start of the nights and reduced to hourly wakeups from coughing/snuffles from 4.30. Nlergh.

We have his passport though! He looks almost identical to ds1 on his (similar age.) It seems a bit random having a photo passport so young as obviously ds1 looks pretty different to his now!

amy83firsttimer · 22/02/2015 11:18

DS is bf but seems to be spacing his feeds out to 3 hourly now. Night feeds are at about 3 then about 5.30. He does go down at around 7.30 though.
Naps have become a bit of an issue here tbh. Yesterday's lack of nap resulted in half an hour of inconsolable crying (in public, with SIL who's an amazing mum to two girls). I'm currently trying to feed him to sleep upstairs with EWAN on to try and replicate bedtime routine.
Toy-wise he's getting really into the playgyms and also Freddie the firefly bought on Annarose2014's recommendation. He seems to be tracking the developments in the wonder weeks app pretty accurately. Proud mummy! Now if he'd just nap we'd be sorted!!!

Floopledoop · 22/02/2015 11:28

Babyfloople is not really bothered by toys yet. He just likes to look at stuff. Ikea the other week blew his mind!

Bf on demand but he sleeps from 10 till 4 then wats again about 7:30 and would then sleep till 10 idealy. Naps are as and when, going to start (trying) to get him to self settle in the cot bed next week. Not really looking forward to that but would like to use nap time to get some house stuff done.

catg83 · 22/02/2015 11:52

floop DS loves Ikea. We have been twice with him and the light section had hum shouting and singing to them. Conked out for about 3 hours afterwards.
lady how was the journey? We ended up stopping half way to feed in Starbucks (deffo not for a sneaky latte) and he slept the rest of the way.

We are staying with my dad at the mo. DS is coping well and sleeping OK in the travel cot but yesterday didn't have more than 20 mins cat nap here and there. We had a bit of a screaming fit at about 6 but calm apart from that. x

ladydolly · 22/02/2015 15:11

Great news catg! babydolly also slept the entire way yesterday so we didn't stop. Today she had a little scream after an hour or so we stopped and I fed her, gave her her bunny and put on rock n roll lullabies cd (guns n roses edition) and she's fallen asleep again. She's been fab this weekend, passed around family and friends patiently, let us have our hotl breakfast in peace. Last night was tricky, she took ages to go to sleep, woke up loads because of her cold. I gave up at 4.30 and spent the next 3 hours with her on my shoulder pacing the room. Am so very very tired now.

Bf feeders, I have no feeding routine whatsoever, generally around 2/3 times per night and then anything between 1 and 3 hours during the day. Anyone else got a routine?

moggle · 22/02/2015 22:04

We had a routine of sorts for a week then she started sleeping through which meant she feeds quite a bit more often and for longer during the day and timings are all over the place.

We had a nightmare drive today! She's always so so good, sometimes having a bit of a grumble but falls asleep very quickly. Today she just escalated to awful sobbing screams, we had to pull off the motorway to a holiday inn- I think she had wind, she wasn't really hungry. Thought that'd fixed it but she started up again immediately and screamed the rest of the 2.5 hr journey, except when I twisted round to pt my finger in her mouth. Ow!! It was pissing. It down with rain, traffic was abysmal and we couldn't stop again as DH had to do a job application this evening. The only thing that stopped her for a bit was when I put a random video on my phone and she just stared at it. Don't think she likes it in the dark and needs something to focus on.
Anyway at least we're home now.

Massive pats on the back for those who've taken their babies to ikea! Just the thought of that brings me out in a cold sweat!!

MusicAndBooks · 23/02/2015 07:49

Another one with a bad cold here. Although I still don't know if it's a reaction to the injections, v snuffly and a bad cough so v clingy and upsets easily.
Omama same here, baby hasn't shown a preference for toys at all yet because I'm generally holding him facing outwards (where he's happiest) while I play with and give attention to DS1 so the poor boy doesn't get the same level of interaction. Keep telling myself he's gaining plenty from being around his sibling and friends!
Anyone else with reflux? DS2 is exclusively bf and had bad reflux. At 8 weeks it all got better and stopped but last 3 days has been sick a lot and don't know if it's reflux or because of his cough-can reflux just start again? He's 13 weeks.
