Here's hoping, anyway...

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Strawberryfield12 · 17/02/2015 20:35

Today it's been 2x45 mins naps, but yesterday she slept most of the day. I honestly don't get what is the pattern, if any, here.

lady we got cleared with the murmurs on Friday, been a while since i felt so relieved, despite not being able believe she might have any probs. The waiting room of the clinic, however, made me realise how lucky we are with the DD being healthy and perfect. So many obviously very ill children there waiting their turn... Congratulations on the house, hope that the surveying and legal bit goes well and smooth till the exchange of contracts

catg83 · 17/02/2015 20:37

He usually has 2 long naps (between 45 mins and 3 hours) and then about 4 shorter naps during the day which can be between 30 mins and an hour or so. But when and where they come is very variable. x

happypotamus · 17/02/2015 21:31

Looking on the bright side of my miserable posts: we haven't had to get up at 6 for mammoth trips to pre-school and back because DD1 is ill. Every cloud...

Great news ladydolly and strawberry.

Re naps: we have no routine. She falls asleep when she is tired. Occasionally she will fall asleep on her own in her bouncy chair or on her playmat when she wears herself out playing. Otherwise she falls asleep feeding. Usually she will fall asleep quickly in the pram, so on days when we take her sister to pre-school she long naps at about 7.30-9 and 3.30-5 and a couple of short naps in between.

My mother has started sending me emails about the fact I haven't found time to sort out a christening yet. I am pretending not to have read them (possible as our internet was down from yesterday evening until this afternoon, I had to do night feeds without MN!)

Strawberryfield12 · 17/02/2015 21:45

Oh caz that sounds quite cruel about waking them up, I would be really peed off with anybody waking me when I am tired even in my solid age.

Anybody has any trick how to bleach baby bottles? The thing is DH put most of them in dishwasher together with sauce pan he had made tomato sauce for pizza and now they are all nice and orange. Is there any known and harmless way to get them back to normal colour or that's it - DD is going to have funny shaded bottles from now on? I guess this is how you can spot me now, a woman feeding baby from an orange bottle Hmm

Annarose2014 · 17/02/2015 22:37

We booked our christening for July i.e. As far off as we could get away with just cos I couldn't be arsed doing it any sooner.

Now we've realised Dad most likely isn't going to be around for July so cue much agonising about whether to bring it forward. But we've decided to leave it where it is. We have waaaay too much on our plate at the mo, and no matter when we rescheduled Dad probably would be too weak to go so why put everyone through it?

If everyone's too upset to do it in July then we can push it even further back, fuck it. I honestly don't care at this stage if the child will be old enough to be chewing steak at his christening lunch.

Nap are very odd here right now, whether its a growth spurt or teething or what. Basically his routine goes feed -> one hour later he has a nap -> playtime -> next feed. But today he's been suddenly refusing feeds as if the bottle is made of poison and screaming for a nap even though he's only been awake maybe half an hour! So we rock him to sleep with mucho difficulty and then he misses his scheduled feed entirely.

Its bloody confusing! Yet another Baby Mystery......

Strawberryfield12 · 18/02/2015 07:51

Oh dear, I completely forgot about christening! This will be fun... Will have to look for the most open minded church in area as I am (on paper) Protestant, DH - Anglican, but both of us really aren't overly religious.

How everyone is doing with regards nurseries? Have you already registered your LOs for when you go back to work? Or maybe you are using different childcare options? We have visited two nurseries, one of them fully booked till summer 2016. I guess I had to register after 20 week scan to get place in time... The most convenient although most expensive would be to get a nanny, but I am not overly excited about leaving my child 1:1 with unknown person. In the nursery at least there are many people around so no-one actually is unsupervised by others in most of the time.

CazY777 · 18/02/2015 07:58

Strawberry, yes it does sounds cruel, it suggested opening the window in the car but I'm definitely not going to blast her with cold air to keep her awake! I think as long as they nap at some point it's ok isn't it?

Arkkorox · 18/02/2015 08:05

No idea with nurseries, I'm seriously thinking about leaving where I work now (they aren't paying me maternity) due to the recent things I've found out. I don't feel like I would be safe there and to be honest the school is going downhill more and more every week. I think I would prefer a child minder rather than a nursery. Need to have a look and see what's about. I won't be going back to work full time anyway, simply can't afford the child care!

Awful awful mummy yesterday? Took my eye off DD when she was in her bouncy chair while we were making lunch in the kitchen, she's desperately trying to sit up and propelled herself forwards and managed to tip the chair over and go head first to the floor. Cue blood curdling screams and a bruise on the forehead :( she's been fine since but oh god the guilt.

I'm taking the 3am poonami as payback for that.

ladydolly · 18/02/2015 08:35

No christening here since I'm not into it at all. My family are anti religion, dmil catholic and actually wrote some fairly offensive comments on dm's facebook page when dm posted articles questioning organised religion. So far the christening topic hasn't come up... (hides behind sofa at the thought).

We're going with a childminder, hopefully my neighbour but I should be looking into back up options by now really.

Colleague told me she joined the waiting list for nurseries here when she was 7 weeks pregnant and still didn't get her 1st choice!!

Annarose2014 · 18/02/2015 10:17

I'm hoping to avoid childcare entirely, gulp! DH can work from home one day a week & I can do agency nursing that day. If that doesn't work out.......well we've no Plan B actually as we've no family that could do it. Oops!

catg83 · 18/02/2015 10:50

Going back to work is a massively discussed issue in our house at the moment. I don't loose out on any maternity pay etc if I don't go back and me working full time would just be working to pay for childcare. I think we are probably looking at me going back between 16 and 20 hours a week. It would have to be fixed hours for childcare. I think I would prefer a childminder but that hasn't been worked out yet. At NCT meet up last week one woman was saying she had put her DS down for 3 nurseries when she was 30 weeks pregnant and was on the waiting list for all 3. Who are these women booking these nurseries so far in advance?

catg83 · 18/02/2015 10:52

Also... ark DS deffo doesn't have a scratch down the side of his face where my nail caught his cheek, feeding, during the night. Had to explain to OH this morning when he said "oh look he must have scratched himself in the night". So tempting to lie and tell OH it was DS' s scratching in the night.

ToniWol · 18/02/2015 11:27

We don't have a pattern for naps either. She sleeps when she feels like it. Only sleep we know that happens pretty much everyday is the one when we go to bed.

We've booked the baptism for Pentecost - 24th May. But the family aren't going to like it as it's a 9.30 service. Still deciding about afterwards though.

Arkkorox · 18/02/2015 11:42

We aren't having DD christened much to my grans disgust!

weeonion · 18/02/2015 12:55

afternoon folks!

we're having a humanist naming day at the end of july. both dp and i are atheists, my family pretty much are too and dp's family - well we dont really care what they think tbh.
dd1 had one and it was a really lovely special day totally focused on her and our wee family. we ar in the process of deciding who will be her "odd - parents" ( instead of God -parents) and have 4 in mind. dd1 had 4 aunts and uncles and dd2 will be getting the coolest / closest of or friends.

once i found out i was pg with dd2 - i bookd my nursey place in the building where i work. she will be 2 doors away and they are cool about me heading in at lunch time to breastfeed. eases the pain a little. with dd1 - it was a nightmare trying to get childcare and we hada few changes to plan to try and accomodate it.
not looking forward to the fees - eek but it is only for a few/ couple of years.

Nurseries here are £1100 a month Sad

Just took dd to the cinema, feel a little embarassed that her first trip was to see 50 shades... but it was nice to go and felt very relaxed given it was full of noisy babies!
