How do you ladies find the coil? Im thinking about it, does it have any side effects eg "weight gain" or "mood swings" ? Only been back on the pill a month and i missed it twice plus was really sick, luckily we haven't been dtd ! Cant be bothered worrying about taking it anymore and i deffo do not want anymore kids!

YellowWellies · 15/12/2014 20:41

Stigz I just use the old fashioned copper coil as artificial hormones turn me into a psychotic eater. It makes periods a bit heavier and more painful and I felt bloated with a bit of back ache for the first month but it settled down quick enough. You have to wait at least 8 weeks post CS for insertion and take a pregnancy test beforehand too. The insertion isn't pleasant but removal was very easy.

mrsb87 · 15/12/2014 21:02

I'm looking into the copper coil as my body really doesn't agree with the hormonal stuff plus I'm useless at remembering to take pills!

stigz:i know what you mean! When babymoose does sleep for a decent stretch i spend the first hour completely on edge chantinh "dont wake up!" In my head!
Then i sleep for a few hours, and wake up with " is he breathing? Should i wake him? Is he hungry? Why is he still asleep? I should be asleep, i cant sleep i have giant boobs, should i express? What if he wakes up and wants feeding?" ....i think the sleep deprivation may have made me crazy!

splendide even tho he is starting to sleep a bit better at night he wont sleep at all during the day unless in car or on the boob having a right good chew! Wakes up in a split second if i try and move him!

Btw is it ok to let babymoose sleep through? Hes 9 weeks and bf, hv looked appalled this morning when i said we had to wake him at 6am after going to sleep at 11 :s are there any official guidelines for baby sleeping vs age?

FATEdestiny · 15/12/2014 21:32

Wondermoose - My DD was sleeping 11-7 from 8 weeks, she is exclusively breastfed. It was her accepting the dummy that got her sleeping through at night. The 11 feed is expressed milk from a bottle.

I would point out that DD sleeping through has massively affected my milk supply. She's 11+ weeks now so I haven't done a night feed for 3 weeks. I'm just in the middle of a big focus on increasing my supply with regular extended feeding in the daytime. But a marked drop in milk production when the night feed went so I've needed to work to get supply back up.

ohthegoats · 15/12/2014 21:45

I've had copper coils for 10+ years, they are great. They make my periods hurt a bit more on days 1 and 2, but not longer or heavier. Insertion has varied from uncomfortable to horrible, but it's only a few minutes to never have to think about contraception, so worth it.

Could my child be ill as a result of jabs last Thursday? She's so sleepy and grumpy and generally clingy.

Happytimes31 · 15/12/2014 22:00

Goats, wondering that too. Have had a couple of slightly raised temps and also sick sessions (not a sicky baby) thought it was only first 24-48 hrs but seemingly not!

FATEdestiny · 15/12/2014 22:06

I can't remember who it was earlier in the thread who was talking about blood in poo and fussy baby? Well I have just found this facebook article via another MN thread. Very interesting reading and I thought it might help. Below is the initial section:

Dr.Jack Newman

Here is a story I hear through email quite frequently. We see several such cases in our clinic every week.

“My baby is 5 months old and is exclusively breastfeeding. For the last 2 months or so he has been fussy at the breast, arching, pulling away from the breast, often not letting go while pulling at the breast which is causing my nipples to be sore. His bowel movements have been mucousy and green for the past month or so. He was diagnosed two months ago with reflux but being on medication for reflux has not changed anything. The doctor then thought that he is allergic to something in my milk because he started to have blood flecks in his bowel movements, but I had not changed anything in my diet so why should he suddenly become allergic to my milk? In any case, I have taken dairy products, gluten, soy products out of my diet for the past month with no improvement, though I thought there might be some improvement at first. In fact, things are actually getting worse. Please help.”

Well, what is involved here? Why do babies act like this? The reason, in the vast majority of cases, is that the mother has had a reduction in the milk supply and the baby is reacting to a slowing of the flow from the breast....

wondermoose13 · 15/12/2014 22:31

fate that sounds exactly like babymoose! Ive worried for a few weeks that hes hungry but no idea how i can increase my supply :s especially if him sleeping more at night could be making things worse :s

YellowWellies · 15/12/2014 22:39

Mucous, bloody and green stools related to a drop in supply? Maybe in some instances but not exclusively - given the cost of reflux drugs am sure the paediatrician we see (who's been treating CMPI and reflux for 20 years) would love it if this were the case - when Jonas' CMPI symptoms were at their most severe he was putting on a pound a week because he was comfort feeding - my supply was immense. I could see how Mum's blood could end up in baby's stools if the fussing leads to bitten nipples but my DS had blood in his and never caused my boobs to bleed - the blood was his. I can see how a reduction in supply can lead to fussing but how does it lead to mucous in poo?

YellowWellies · 15/12/2014 22:46

Ahhh have read it again - so he's suggesting babies are getting lactose overload. Interesting! But then topping up would likely just make the drop in supply worse? Fenugreek and oats?

wondermoose13 · 15/12/2014 22:57

I have always wondered if he was having runny green poo due to getting lots of foremilk and not mucb fatty milk. He really wont stay on long at all at the moment, 5 mins max in the day, but first thing when i have gigantic boobs he does a really good feed.. hmm not sure what i can do to either boost my supply or improve his latch. Hes always been a lazy boy and enjoyed the first rush of milk and then cant be bothered to work for the fatty milk

ohthegoats · 15/12/2014 23:07

happy - it would explain her wanting to be close to me in bed as well as everywhere else. Normally happy to go to bed, but not since Friday. She's been napping nicely, but that's weird too, and we're almost back to cluster feeding this evening,

YellowWellies · 15/12/2014 23:09

Moose then by traditional logic you'd need to keep putting him back to the same breast so he can get the hindmilk but then that would reduce supply if done too much. I think you need to understand why he's dropping off after five minutes, have you seen a lactation consultant and had him checked for tongue tie?

ohthegoats · 15/12/2014 23:10

moose - express off the first bit on every other feed or something?

Kirstipops · 15/12/2014 23:15

Moose when I told my HV that H was sleeping about 5 hours in her first chunk (this would have been around the visit at 5 weeks) she said good on her! I think as long as they are putting on enough weight, plenty wet n messy nappies and feeding enough in the day then the longer stretches at night are OK? H is a frequent grazer through the day, every couple of hours at 10 weeks, just stockpiling for bedtime I think.

JeannePoole · 16/12/2014 02:48

Is there any sound lovelier than that of a baby grunting and straining to fill his freshly-changed nappy during a 2am feed?

Why yes. Yes, there is. Hmm

mrsb87 · 16/12/2014 06:10

Dylan has decided 5 hours is enough and that a 5am wake up call us what's needed. I hope he goes back to sleep again soon!!

MundayCakes85 · 16/12/2014 06:19

I too got the 5am wake up- E trumping away, cat crying to go out and DH snoring! Waiting for her to finish up then hopefully back to bed. Not holding out too much hope.

wondermoose13 · 16/12/2014 06:24

We have tried all the traditional methods to get him to have more hind milk. Pumping is practically impossible in the day as he just wont be put down. The article seemed to say it was the slower flow that caused the baby to pull off and ive always felt that after that first bit that he got bored and wouldnt work for the slower milk
We go to several bf groups and non seem to be able to improve his latch because he wont tilt his head back. He had a posterior tt cut at 6 weeks, didnt seem to help.
Im going to bf group today so will be asking her opinion on that article

kirsti how long does she sleep now? They all seem to give conflicting advice, i wish there was a chart that said for each age what was ok lol

mrsb87 · 16/12/2014 07:27

Well we got up as dh had to get up for work anyway. He's now asleep in his chair in front of the Christmas tree (new favourite thing!) Now pumping and have 4oz out of one boob. ... band still going. My freezer is getting full!

splendide · 16/12/2014 07:46

Morning! The boy did 6 hours! We've been up since 5 mind but at least I got a bit of sleep. I wake up at 2am on the dot though, every night. It seems to be when he has a bit of a grunt/ squeak.

It's so odd. He's really very good at night and just horribly cranky in the day. I can't work him out.

clairemiss79 · 16/12/2014 07:49

Hi. I wanted to ask a question about puschairs. Which one do yo all use? I bought a graco evo travel system and I'm hating it. ITs so bumpy over pavements and down the lanes where i live its like pushing a wheelie bin! My dd is rattled about. What pushchair is best for rough pavements etc. I had a bugaboo before abd loved it but cant afford one this time. :)

Me23 · 16/12/2014 08:20

4:30am start today v has gone back to sleep just now but I've got school run to do. Roll on this eve so I can sleep.

I've decided i dot want to go back to work with the cost of childcare for 3 I'll only be making £80 a month and considering how stressful my job is it isn't worth it. Haven't discussed this with OH yet. I may have to repay mat pay if I don't go back to nhs for 3 months if that's the case I will look for another job in nhs I can't do 12.5 hour shifts and nights with 3 kids under ten and pick ups to do.

ohthegoats · 16/12/2014 08:20

We've got a city jogger with 4 wheels. I have used it a grand total of 4 times because where I live it's easier to carry her. I quite like the buggy in terms of its movement and steering ease, but I think it makes pippa sick - it's almost too easily moved so it feels like a fairground ride to her or something.

I didn't even bother putting her in her own bed last night - just too weirdly clingy. Put her down on the other side of my bed facing me and she went straight to sleep. Had a 5 hour and then a 4 hour. Now she's eating like she's never eaten before. Thrashing and growling. Haha.
