Just wrote a long message on the old thread only to have it not post because we'd filled it.

We really ought to do less chatting and more sleeping Wink

My plan is go back to college for a year when S turns 3, then uni afterwards. Although I want to do a textiles course which means I probably won't get a job at the end of it so it will be pointless Grin There's nothing else I can see myself doing though.

Toby what kind of thing do you want to do?

TobyLerone · 30/01/2015 12:35

I want to do a midwifery degree. I've been toying with the idea for about 15 years, because I am an unambitious saddo.

I might do a breastfeeding peer supporter course first. Midwifery is super competitive and you need some sort of relevant work experience before they'll even consider you.

What would you ideally want to do with your textiles course? Teaching?

OP posts:
FelixFelix · 30/01/2015 13:07

Midwifery would be fab! I have also heard its a hard course to get accepted on to.

Fuck knows what I can do with a textiles degree. I'd hate to teach but that seems like the only option with an arts degree unless I lived in London (which also doesn't really guarantee anything, just more opportunities). I don't think it's the best idea to be honest but it's what I want to do because I'm good at it Grin

BookTart · 30/01/2015 13:20

I'm planning to retrain too (yet again!) I'm thinking of becoming a counsellor, but I'm not sure I'm the right kind of person for the job. I'm a bit of a git Grin

felix I used to work at several art colleges in London. The textiles courses were lovely. I agree that they don't guarantee a job at the end, but it's be lovely to study it properly.

TobyLerone · 30/01/2015 14:05

My mother is a total git and she's a psychiatric nurse. It's basically a job requirement, book.

I reckon it'll stop me blubbing when people tell me harrowing stuff. I just have to stop myself laughing instead Grin

FelixFelix · 30/01/2015 15:58

Book Grin sounds like you're prefect for the job then!

BookTart · 30/01/2015 19:24

Bugger. Mum's back in hospital with water on her lungs :( Next week is already full of appointments for PND stuff and crèches and playgroups. Aaargh!

TobyLerone · 30/01/2015 21:01

:( book

Don't worry about the Wednesday playgroup, if that's the one you meant. I'm happy to go as an advance party in case it's full of twats shit.

Sorry Book Sad hope you can manage ok and your Mum gets better soon.

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 30/01/2015 22:58

And book hope your mum improves soon. Thanks

FelixFelix · 31/01/2015 01:24

S is awake screaming again Confused She's had teething stuff, calpol and milk. I've sat with her shushing for an hour, she's been downstairs for a while and put back in bed (usually does the trick) and I've ended up leaving her to cry again. I feel awful for it but I don't know what else to do. I went to bed at 10 as I'm knackered and she woke up just as I was going to sleep at around 20 past, so three hours ago. Sorry I'm venting here again but I don't know what to do Sad

BookTart · 31/01/2015 07:14

felix Sad poor you and poor S. I find Nurofen better than Calpol for teething. That said, we're currently alternating the two (not sure if that's okay really) every few hours as she's still waking up in pain. Teething is horrible.

Naturegirl82 · 31/01/2015 07:24

Felix that sounds horrible. As book says try some baby neurofen instead/as well as. It may help as it's also an anti inflammatory.

book hope your mum is ok.

Jealous of all the retraining talk. I keep looking at courses (I just love learning the geek that I am) but I've not found anything I want to do yet.

I'm knackered but Dh is ill which means I have to do all get ups at the minute. I just want to sleep. At a hen do next weekend which is a 4 hour drive away so can't see myself getting any extra sleep soon. Sad

TobyLerone · 31/01/2015 11:58

Crap night here too. BFing all day and awake all night. It's like having a newborn again.

OP posts:
FelixFelix · 31/01/2015 12:00

Thanks, I didn't realise they did a baby version of neurofen! Will get some and see if it helps. She didn't sleep until 2.20am Confused

Nature that's rubbish Sad it's horrible being tired and not knowing when you can catch up on sleep.

FizzypopFireball · 31/01/2015 12:20

The TB secret Facebook group has definitely been resurrected! We had a bad night too, and H is normally a good sleeper. They're all in it together!!!

We use baby neurofen here for teething too. And everything else, as you only have to give 2.5mls instead of battling with 5mls of calpol. In Scotland you can get the pharmacist's own version called Fenpaed for free under the Minor Ailment scheme. Not sure if you get it down south. book we were told it's ok to alternate the two, but you can only give neurofen 3 times a day.

Love reading about everyone's plans to do more training. I love studying, but don't think I'll do anymore as my last course nearly broke me, and that was before H came along! To those who were looking at Midwifery, if that didn't work out, would you consider being a Doula? I get the feeling that with the pressure on midwives these days more women might consider using them.

Hi firethorn, just wanted to say that it sounds like you're doing an amazing job. I can't imagine how tough it is for you all at the moment. I hope you are getting some extra support for Archie and DD, so that you are also given the time to grieve. Do you have a friendly health visitor you can speak to?

book, hope your mum improves soon. Good luck with the counselling, I hope it helps.

Phew, mammoth post! We're stuck inside today as it's blowing a gale and blizzarding. Yuk.

BookTart · 31/01/2015 15:16

No free ibuprofen here fizzy I don't think. Does the dose go up to 5ml at 1 year old? I've kept P on 2.5ml because she's little though.

She's an utter misery this afternoon. No idea why, although I know there is a tooth coming through but she isn't dribbling or gnawing or anything. This could still be MMR as well of course. Whatever it is, it can piss off!

Mum is being kept in for a few days. I can't get up to see her before Wednesday and my brother is cross about that. I have four brothers, two of whom live nearish to the hospital. Surely they could manage a couple of visits between them? Apparently not. Sigh.

FelixFelix · 31/01/2015 16:27

Book that is irritating. Why are you the only one expected to go when they live close?

We have the neurofen now Grin it's 5ml for a 1yr old.

I've had to put a dribble bib on S for the first time since she was about 6 months old! Definitely teething.

FizzypopFireball · 31/01/2015 16:58

We have 2 molars coming in, so I think I'm going to up the dose! Thanks for pointing that out!

Naturegirl82 · 31/01/2015 18:39

I think O is teething too. We can't give her neurofen until we've checked with her consultant though (it has a warning about kidney problems on the packaging) which is annoying so just calpol for us.

TobyLerone · 31/01/2015 19:09

M can't have ibuprofen either because she's asthmatic.

book I'm sorry about your mom, I hope she gets better soon.

Everyone else - obviously our kids are gits. Mine definitely is! We're having to do cc at night, it's too much getting up with him constantly.

I had my feedback yesterday, seriously nothing negative was said. So I don't understand their position, but I'm off until 17th so I care less!

FelixFelix · 31/01/2015 20:42

Million enjoy your time off Smile I have ended up falling in to CC too these past few nights. I even turned the volume on the monitor down last night Shock I feel like the worlds worst mother for it but what else can you do?!
