Would be great to get to share stuff with other new mums. Couldnt see a thread out there for this already.

So hows it going? What you expected? Feeling like a zombie most of the time? I still cant believe I've even had a child - am i normal?

He stands up while holding onto your hands and loves trying to bounce up and down.

he can say mama now!!!

chatee · 18/09/2004 08:34

your bubba is doing more than mine.....he's so placid just likes to watch the world go by......he was born on 26th Feb!!!!

Hello all!
My DD is a pudding too. 7.5 months and just lies there with no intention of moving but gets really fed up that she can't move IYSWIM?? She sits up beautifully and loves to spend a lot of time taking toys out of her little box, watching me put them in again, and then taking them out again.
She is entering the 'clingy' phase. Howls if I so much as look at the door. She will play quite happily if I am in the room but seems to have a built in radar so I can't even creep out.
She is huuuuuge ... have no idea how heavy but I have biceps like Geoff Capes and she is wearing 9 12 month clothes.
Technically she sleeps through in that I haven't needed to feed her for months but she cries for her dummy about 4/7 nights.
She's lovely ... and scrumptious (although a bit grumpy these days - sure her first tooth is coming soon) ... and I love her to pieces!

pixiefish · 18/09/2004 09:50

My dd was born on 31st Jan so technically a Jan baby but the thread doesn't do much. She's 7 1/2 moths and started crawling a week before 6 months. She's very light and still in 3-6 month clothes... started walking behind her walker the other day. has 3 meals a day and is still bf BUT I'm having problems getting her to eat the purees etc that I've frozen for her. She'll eat them for my mum who has her 2 days while I work but won't eat them for me- she'll eat from jars though, no probs. Have tried cutting back on milk feeds and she doesn't have milk after 9.30 nap now but it's making no difference. Am getting to the end of my tether as I really don't want her to have too many jars etc.

fernyburn · 20/09/2004 20:44

Hi my dd was born on the 17th feb - got 2 teeth at 4 months, and has got 4 more poking through - poor little mite is having a bad time of it .

shes a pudding too - 3 meals a day - abaout 21 pounds in weight, and wants picking up constantly.

I understand what you mean about a moaning baby she has been moaning for about 3 months constantly, nothing really keeps her amused for more than a few mins she is combat crawling now -- and even moans at that (just like her dad LOL.
But she is totally adorable, and I love her to bits she still reduces me too tears because she is soo beautiful.
I just know that all babies are different -- I just wish that she would stay a baby a bit longer !!!!

cuppy · 20/09/2004 21:05

Hi everyone,

Great to hear youre all doing well. DD is now 7 months(14.2.04) and is lush!!!!!!!
Will sit steadily, moans like hell when on her front, shows no signs of crawling and WILL NOT put any weight on her legs at all. Has 2 teeht and has just started to clap. Will do so when asked, not just shown, so of course I'm constantly trying to get her to perform (go on darling, do it for mummy)
Wearing 9-12 months clothes also at 21 pounds - shes round and cuddly and I adore her.

Hi to all Feb 04 Mums. Just thought i would join this thread. My Ds was born on Feb 8th after a very long labour (3 days by my reckonging as the early stages were regular contractions and still hurt enough for me but only 12 hours established labour of which 3 hours were pushing as he was in the posterior position throughout). I breastfed for 5 1/2 months after a very traumatic first four weeks for ds feeding constantly but not re-gaining birth weight. Stopped breastfeeding when i returned to work when ds was 6 months.

My Ds is an absolute star (as i'm sure they all are). He now has two teeth through which fortunately were fairly straightforward - we had one night where he wouldn't settle for a couple of hours and a few where he took longer to settle than usual so i guess thats pretty lucky. He isn't crawling but kind of shuffles along and combined with rolling gets surprisingly far - nappy changing has become a bit of a challenge as a result though! He's a sturdy sitter and can stand when holding on. He's apparently clapped at nursery but seems to keep it as his nursery secret! (he's grounded as he knows not to do anything new at nursery!! . he eats three meals a day - although is now eating savoury stuff with less enthusiasm - still find the whole solid thing confusing but we're muddling through it. Apart from that being a mummy is fantastic and he still amazes me every day and i think just how lucky we are to have him in our lives.

Titania · 02/10/2004 14:21

has anyones d got teeth yet? my ds2 seems to have been teething for ages and still not got one!!!

BabyHare · 03/10/2004 20:13

Hi

My DS has two teeth at the bottom but is still teething badly - more to come soon me thinks!

Sarah and Bertie (16.2.04)

WidgetWB · 05/10/2004 20:25

Ok - well we are suffering like I never thought possible, and when I say we, I really really mean we! DS has been teething or a good month and a half so far, and although we have in that time produced 2 teeth at the bottom, the screaming, whineing, clinginess continues - what a nightmare! The last two nights we have had a maximum of 4 hours sleep ALL night and right at the end of the night. I have now dosed him up with lots of medicine along with every kind of homeopathic stuff you can imagine, in the hope that we might actually get into bed before 4am!

Anyone else experiencing some of this? All my friends have had no problems at all.

8.30pm having gone down at 7pm waking already - and here it begins! I am so so so tired I just don't know what to do. It gets to the point where you just let him play to stop the screaming but I am told thats a really bad thing to do as then they will start to enjoy not sleeping at night. Any ideas waht you are supposed to do with his children whilst they are screaming all night?

tabitha · 10/10/2004 12:36

Hello everyone,

WidgetWB, my dd is suffering from teething too, unlike her older brother and sisters who seemed to sail through it relativly painlessly. She has two bottom teeth already in and four top ones in various stages of coming through at the moment. Also, since starting nursery she has had a constant cold and runny nose, so all in all she isn't a happy bunny particularly at night - during the day as long as she has plenty to take her mind off the pain, she's not too bad.
Wish, I could offer some advice about sleeping. DD is better than she was when I first went back to work when she started waking up about 3-4 times a night screaming and I was practically falling asleep at the wheel when I was driving - I drive a lot for my work.
Generally, if she wakes up screaming and she's in pain, I try the usual, ie calpol, teething gel, cuddle and then put her down. After that, I leave her to scream for a bit and usually she manages to get off to sleep herself. If it goes on too long, then I'll give up and feed her, but to be honest I hate doing this as I know from experience that it's just going to make things worse the next night.

pixiefish · 10/10/2004 13:51

Widget WB- My dd teething at the moment as well- it's been fairly horrendous since Aug really- she's finally got 2 teeth. I find the Nurofen for babies better than calpol myself- spose the ibuprofen is good for reducing swelling- I'm also using ashton and parsons infant powder as well as bonjela.

cuppy · 10/10/2004 14:10

Sounds like its all go at the moment then!

DD is dribling all the time and constantly has a cold - her eyes are always red and I feel so sorry for her! Still only has 2 teeth but am sure more on the way. I'm just using good old bonjela so far seems to do the trick.

Just started gymbabes with her this week - the baby class of tumble tots. She's really become aware of other babies and loves their company.

Cant believe she's almost 8 months already. Where has the time gone? Anyone pregnant again yet then??

fernyburn · 11/10/2004 16:20

Hi Cuppy - Im activly trying for another baby.
My DD has 7 teeth also, 4 at the top, 3 at the bottom, and nighttime has been horendous, especially as DH manages to sleep through her screaming. It has got to the stage where I now look in at her, and if its not a pain scream / cry, then I have to leave her.
I absolutly hate doing it, but leaving her to cry it out is the only option left. I have done everything else, read all the books, and taken all the advice.

I go to Jo Jingles each week, and its not that much fun, She is so clingy, that she wants me to hold her constantly, and cries if I dont, I think I will try the tubletots though, there are classes near me .
I have had to put the cot down to the lowest level, as she can pull herself to stand, and does so at every oppertunity.
Took her for the 8 month checkup, but she cried all the way through, so the HV will be coming out on Weds to redo it all.
She is such hard work at the moment, but totally adorable in every way.

WidgetWB · 22/10/2004 21:55

Think - and always regret saying this as it always backfires on me - but I think that we might have sorted it out! Feel like a very bad mother as got the controlled crying down to a fine art, and then suddenly on the fifth night, having only had to go in once the night before, he woke up all night screaming, and then the next a bit better but still crap etc etc. This carried on for about four/five nights and then I gave up and decided that there must be a reason for the very strange things that were happening, like he was sleeping but crying during the night, and sometimes during the day etc which was odd, and he was clingy, whingy etc during the day. So off to the doctor with mothers intuition and asked him to find something - anything! Bingo - mothers intuition was a week too late - he has an acute ear infection in both ears to the point that both ear drums were about to burst!! Such a bad mother! And worse than that, the day before we went to the doctor I decided that he must have been bored and that was why he being horrid, so I took him SWIMMING - hello!?! God its awful - I feel so bad! Anyway, doctor who did point out, helpfully, that mothers intuition took a long time to work that one out, gave him antibiotics and thankfully I now have my boy back! And on top of that, we have sorted, almost sorted anyway, the reflux situation. He is on Losec and gaviscon and it seems to be going well.

We have two teeth, and frankly after it all, I am dreading the next one, and the next one!

He has just worked out that he can move in his cot so is all over the place screaming because he is stuck against the bars, a bit slow I think as others have been moving for months! Or maybe lazy!

Other than that, all well - anyone else?

Anyone pregnant yet?

Uhu · 01/11/2004 12:48

Hi everyone

I did not know this thread existed! My twin DS were born on 21st February,4lb 12oz and 3lb 1oz. They were due in April but due to the smaller one not growing, they had to be delivered early by C-section. They spent 3 weeks in SCBU which gave me a chance to recover from the operation and gain some strength.

The first few weeks with them at home was difficult because I was not getting much sleep. They required feeding every 2-3 hours, even at night so I was like a zombie. I tried solely breastfeeding but could not produce enough breastmilk, even through expressing, so they were mixed fed.

The smaller twin has recently started wearing 3-6 month clothing (now weighs nearly 15lb)and the bigger twin is fast approaching 17lb so DH and I are so happy with their progress.

They are now at nursery 3 days a week and doing well. They are not sitting yet but twin 1 likes to lie on his side and twin 2 on his tummy. The HV says that they are behind in their development but that is because of their early birth. We're not worried because we know that by the time they start school, they will have caught up.

Sallie · 02/11/2004 17:05

babyhare - my dd was born on 16 Feb too!!

cuppy · 08/11/2004 21:29

Welcome Uhu. Your little ones sound adorable. Ive always thought I'd love to have twins - although it sounds really hard work.
Hows everyone else....??
DD is still trying to crawl - still has two teeth but has finally begun to put weight bear. She is loving gymbabes and is really so much fun. If you laugh she will copy you . I love her.

Hello February mums and babes. Can I join you? Ds born Feb 3rd, 7lb exactly. Just moved house so in new area, don't know anyone, so this is great (only just discovered mumsnet). Ds loving new house as we've child-proofed it properly so he has loads more freedom - crawling everywhere, cruising around furniture etc. Still showing no signs of growing any teeth (or hair for that matter) but happily chomping on fingerfoods. He has gums of steel. Anyone else with no teeth yet?! Have stopped weighing him at the moment as he was always in 25th %, and the HV bugged me about it. He eats loads, still has plenty of milk and is absolutely full of beans, so I'm not worrying. He's just started being v enthusiastic about his pointy finger - points at everything and anything, but is most frantic if there's a button to press with the pointy finger (phone, stereo, xbox, radio - you name it, he'll press the buttons). He is the light of our lives.

MarsLady · 22/11/2004 22:45

Hi, I'm a Feb '04 Mum as well. The twins were born by c-section on 11th Feb. They were lying sideways and their position was not stable, which is why I had the section. Kenya came out first, she shoved her placenta in the way so that Max couldn't come out first. K weighed 4lbs 5oz and M weighed 5lbs 14oz. M was taken to scbu for 3 hours, which made me laugh as he was the big one. They both crawl and pull themselves up on furniture. M lets go and stands for a couple of seconds. Just bought a playpen so that I can pee in peace or have a cup of tea. lol. Just given M a haircut as his hair was rather long. They make each other laugh and they crawl all over each other. They adore their older siblings. They are happy babies and M smiles the most. K likes to take the situation in before smiling.

tabitha · 26/11/2004 15:00

Hello Feb mums and babies and welcome to Marslady and bee3. Anyone else got a baby that just isn't interested in toys? Dd has tons of toys but ignores them all, prefering to chew magazines, wrap herself in electric cables and torment the cat who is so stupid that he lets her up to a point, and then...
She is now 'cruising' round the furniture and has discovered climbing the stairs, which she loves. unforuntatley the design of the stair banister means that I can't fit a stairgate at the bottom but I have borrowed a playpen so at least I can put her in there when I need to do something (like pee or have a cup of tea lol Marslady) Unfortunatley she hates it so I don't get much peace
I laughed at the bit about your twins crawling over each other - whenever I pick dd up from nursery, as soon as she sees me she makes a beeline for me, crawling over whatever other babies are in the way and the other kids are just the same

Titania · 26/11/2004 15:05

my ds2 started crawling 2 days ago!!! now going at a fast rate!! great fun when your trying to pack to move house the next day......NOT!!! lol

hazlinh · 06/12/2004 08:49

oh hello!! didn't know this thread existed!! can i join?
dd was born feb 11, about two weeks early, at 2.83 kilos.
she still doesn't weigh much, i think, compared to other babies her age- she's now about 7.4 kilos (having lost 0.5 kilos two weeks ago after a bout of bronchiolitis).
but she's very active!!!!!!! started crawling around 5 mths and then cruising at 7 and a half months or so, so it's quite a challenge trying to keep an eye on her, she loves telephone lines, electric cords and chewing newspapers and mags to shreds!!
she nearly choked on some tissue she'd pulled out of the tissue box once, (a long time ago, way before we knew to put that darn thing away on a high shelf). thank goodness i managed to pry the tissue out of her mouth.
she's also started to try and eat the earth in our plant pots recently, so we'll have to move those out soon.
she absolutely hates the playpen so we've never used it. thank god sil gave us otherwise that wouldve been the biggest waste of money ever.

ghostofchristmaspast · 06/12/2004 09:07

Hello everyone!

DD just turned 10 months (DOB 3/2/04) and has just learned to bumshuffle. She looks really sweet doing it but it is a nightmare for poos Wink!
Don't think I am strange but I am sure she is saying 'Mummy' and 'Daddy' ... When I am in the room she shuffles around singing, 'Maaaaammmeeee, maaaaaammmeeeee' and then when DH walks in she goes, 'Daaaadddeeee, daaaaddddeeee'.
I don't remember when DS started speaking so I can't compare, but he was speaking sentences by 18 months ...
She has finally started sleeping through. She goes to sleep with 3 dummies (yes 3!!), one in her mouth and one in each hand. When I go to bed I make sure all three are near her head and when she stirs in the night she just puts her hand up and finds one of them and pops it back in! I have not had to stumble in and find a dummy in the dark for 3 weeks now!!
She is very cuddly and says, 'Aaaah' when she wants a cuddle.
She is still huge (10.8 kilos at 9 month check) which astounds me as she doesn't eat that much and doesn't drink that much milk (15 oz a day, max). Must be genetic as DS was a big baby too (but he was a human dustbin).
We had a lovely week last week as DS started school so DD and I have finally begun to have a bit of quality time together.
Love G
