Hi all, welcome to thread 2!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

My boob keeps leaking while feeding from the other one. Today I've gotten through 2 tops and a bra. Boob pads obviously not doing their job. Tried to pump but it doesn't seem to get much milk in the container- most stayed I. The pump/ on my boob Hmm

YellowWellies · 29/10/2014 18:37

Munday there was a great tip on the FB group the other day but if you want to stop leaks from the boob you're not feeding with - prod the nipple sharply with your finger Smile

Me23 · 29/10/2014 18:59

Thanks for the link to the ergo cocoon yellow quick question can you use it as a sleeping baby with their arms out straight away or are they supposed to be a certain weight? Just in case violet doesn't take to having her arms trapped!

BadgerInBury · 29/10/2014 19:07

Munday Have you looked into breast shells? May as well collect the milk you're leaking - I do this for the first morning feed and get about 25ml then express to 50ml, which is a good start to the day's stock...

Rookie question: what are people doing at bedtime? At the moment DH goes up about 11pm and I stay downstairs watching TV and feeding until she goes to sleep about 3.30am. Then I put her in the Moses basket, leave her another 15 mins or so to make sure she's really asleep, then eventually bring baby, basket and stand up to our bedroom. Not sure if I'm doing it wrong though and making it harder for myself...

MundayCakes85 · 29/10/2014 19:08

Thanks Yellow I'll try that later on. It wasn't a little leak- I could have fed a herd of babies!

MundayCakes85 · 29/10/2014 19:10

Badger we all go up to bed about 11ish or earlier. I then feed DD while DH gets off to sleep. If she's behaving it's lights off before midnight for a few hours kip. Had a few rough nights- think maybe due to Infacol containing sugar keeping her up all night!!

YellowWellies · 29/10/2014 19:23

Me Lilla is wee - 7lb 8oz at a month and she is fine to have hands out Smile . The neck hole is v small so there's no danger of them disappearing inside.

Badger infacol only works if you are sure its wind issues - otherwise it can bring up great bubbles of stomach acid and totally screw sleep by hurting their throats. With our family of refluxers I daren't touch it again.

Our bedtime is cluster feed from 7pm til she drops off for the night. If she's not tanked up enough I'll strip and change her mid evening. She usually pops off like a fat little leech about 11. Grin Some nights its gone 12.30. It settles down.

I'm still on a sleep deficit from our OOH trip on Monday night when I managed a grand total of 2.5 hours - hope I get a decent stretch tonight.

YellowWellies · 29/10/2014 19:24

Sorry Badger that should say Munday

CellyD · 29/10/2014 19:44

Thanks goats for the advice on how much to express. Thanks to badger for the suggestion on breast shells, I have extremely leaking boobs, I've been through nearly 2 boxes of lanisoh breast pads and my DD is only 16 days old.

ohthegoats · 29/10/2014 19:55

I go to bed at 9 ish, I faff for half an hour while boyfriend has Pip whether ashe's shouting or not. He brings her up when she's clearly desperate for food. That starts my night. Boyfriend sleeps in another room, I've no idea what time he goes to bed cos I'm asleep!

We've started doing a bath time routine around 7pm, bit of massage afterwards, feed her then nap - then boyfriend going to do expressed feedat at 10.30 and puts her in the bedside crib. When that starts to work properly, I'll go to bed at 9 to get sleep and ideally not get woken until 1am or later. Her feeding frenzy time is 3pm - 7 ish, at the moment anyway. I'm not naive enough to think it'll work perfectly, but it seems to suit her natural rhythm so far, and gives us time eat dinner while she naps after bath time feed.

YellowWellies · 29/10/2014 20:48

You know you're a sleep deprived new parent when you read an ad for half price Lanson champagne and your head translates it as Lansinoh!!!! Grin

binkybunny · 29/10/2014 21:31

Thanks everyone for your encouragement earlier, had a lovely day in the end. Lazy morning , mw signed us over to hv and we managed a lovely short woodland walk this afternoon followed by dh making hot choc with marshmallows. Smile

Badger, we're starting to get into a routine for when dh goes back to work. he's doing 9pm ish feed while I get ready for bed, I get up and do the 1am ish feed then we''re hoping she'll start sleeping til 5am so dh can feed when he gets up for work. Let's see how it goes though and if she's on the same timetable!

mrsb87 · 29/10/2014 22:41

Glad you had a good day in the end binky try not to worry as it will all work out, you're bound to be exhausted and emotional at the moment but it will pass Smile

Turn out my boy thoroughly enjoys the vacuum cleaner noise on the white noise app. That's not proof to MIL that I did clean in my pregnancy, he clearly recognises the sound :-) also trying the water bottle Idea tonight in his crib. Fingers crossed!

Sorehead · 30/10/2014 01:43

mrsb good luck with the hot water bottle.

Think DS is having a bit of a growth spurt- our feeding routine has gone a bit to pot this evening/ tonight. He lulled us into a false sense of security over the last three nights, thinking we had some sort of a pattern. He's currently asleep on my chest so hopefully he transfers to Moses basket ok.....then I can kick DH to stop snoring (the noise is doing my head in but I feel bad disturbing him to stop him whilst I'm still forced to be awake)

binkybunny · 30/10/2014 02:28

Good luck mrsb hope it works and you get him settled!,

I've just done the 1am feed and spent an hour winding. I can hear wind in her tummy but couldn't get anything out so I'm now laid her worried about her throwing all her milk up! Should really be getting back to sleep Hmm

Sorehead · 30/10/2014 03:14

Well tonight isn't going as planned.....

DH is really tired and so is getting grumpy- double baby shift for me! Need Brew

mrsb87 · 30/10/2014 04:49

Well it definitely worked! We're up feeding now and currently on boon 2. Boot 1 was so full bless him he almost drowned, I was sure 1 would be enough.. clearly not. He is wide awake too which worries me, I think it's going to be a problem getting him back to sleepConfused

Don't you just hate it when after a good feed and then sitting up holding them upright for half an hour, whilst they settle perfectly in your arms, the wee buggers then do a massive poo and need a change, which of course makes her want a boob to calm her ruffled feathers! Envy

FrauEnglischLehrerin · 30/10/2014 07:59

Yellow - have I understood you right - are you encouraging cluster-feeding in the evening? Ds seems to want to cluster-feed from late evening and his longest phase of sleep is probably in the afternoon atm.

fedupofrainydays · 30/10/2014 08:09

I would encourage it! As can 'tank' them up for the night. We do it here too. And worked for my ds1 just not working here yet!!

ohthegoats · 30/10/2014 08:54

Yeah it's a bit annoying that Pip prefers to do her big eating beteern 3 and 6pm really, but it does seem to work out that it makes her sleepier by bedtime. I'm just having to get my head round that time of day being totally unproductive for now.

I worked out that I've had 8 hours sleep since 10 last night - how come it doesn't feel like that at all? 2 hour slots just isn't enough in one go?

fedupofrainydays · 30/10/2014 09:12

So I've booked a doctors appojt ment this morning - just want to check I've not got thrush in my boob. Dreading it though as have to take ds1 with me too

BadgerInBury · 30/10/2014 09:26

Thanks for sharing bedtime routines. We're going to try getting her down in the early evening tonight with bath and white noise time to see what happens.

Poor Baby Badger had a massive growth spurt yesterday. We had our first excursion into town on the tram - all fine until she woke up from a nap with the hunger of 20 babies upon her. It's only a small town centre but it took four hours to make it across and back home after having to make multiple long feeding stops to calm frantic hungry crying. Once we got in it was 40 mins or so between feeds right through until the small hours. She is totally sparked out now!

hefner · 30/10/2014 09:48

We don't seem to have much of a bedtime/night routine yet, every night has been different. The last few nights ds has been going 3 hours between feeds and settling fairly easily which is lovely. I think the unsettled nights might have been from my antibiotics making his stomach sore.

Unfortunately I think I might be getting mastitis back again, on the other side this time. FFS I only finished the last lot of antibiotics on Monday. My temp was 38.9 in the night but ds had a good feed from the sore side and my temp seems to have gone back down this morning. Still v sore but I feel less fluey so I think I'll hold off calling the Dr for now, really don't want more antibiotics if I can avoid it.
