Madameplatypus all I can say is think VERY VERY carefuly please. Ive had a realy crap weekend as far as lo is concerned. Ive had my big ds's here for the weekend and they have been so good and helpful. But Edward has been a pain in the bum. He seems to have been on my boob the whole weekend and if hes not hes been crying. We went to ds3's friends birthday party yesterday and I sat on the sofa for 2 hours feeding him. Very seriously thinking about buying some formula tomm. Anyway rant over. I will look through the thread properly when I get the chance.

jmcmugwump · 26/11/2006 17:02

Hope you have all had a good weekend.

pmoore sorry about your granma - at least she will have had a chance to see your LO even if it is for a short while

Am doing the one handed typing thing at the mo as everytime I put Ellie down she wakes up again which is a pain in the bum during the day, but at least at night she seems to sleep when all the lights are out, even if shr is not quite asleep when I put her in her basket after a feed she seems to settle herself - makes both of us chuckle listening to her gurgling and squeeking - sometimes I am sure I have given birth to a guinea pig!

She seems to be doing less of the fussy marathon feeds now, so maybe it was a growth spurt, or maybe her tummy is a bit bigger!!

We have 6 vweek check tomorrow so will finally find out what she weighs - she hasn't been checked in 3 weeks but has progressed to 0-3 babygros as although she isn't chubby she is quite long, and I don't think they will last much longer.

Looking forward to the December meet, will need to do a practise on public transport - trains and tubes - will need to make sure I am having a brave day - how long does it take to get to canary wharf from Kings X - will have to start expressing now unless I want to have my boobs out all day on public transport!!

totallyfloaty35 · 26/11/2006 17:12

Hi all, well dh and i finally got out of bed today at noon(no naughties, just sleep)baby slept from 11pm-8am,fed for 40mins and then slept til noonSo no shortage of sleep here, but nipples really sore again from almost non stop feeds in the evening. She was latched on badly yesterday when we went for lunch and i was trying to feed discreetly in packed restaurant. In fact they hurt so much yesterday i was crying so gave her a formula feed, think this my be why she slept so long. She feeds loads in the evening and seems to get very cross, sucking for a while then screaming and trying again,im sure i must run out of milk by 9pm as boobs feel completely flat and pancake like and i cant get anything out when i try expressing.I have also been bursting into tears most evenings and am feeling guilty about not giving enough attention to my other 2 DDs,they are older and are being very sweet and helpful, but i find myself snapping at them when they ask how long til dinner or can i help with homework and all the while the baby screams for food or is being fed
I hope all those with back injuries are feeling better,Gingeme how is your babies weight gain going?
I would like to come along for the meetup if thats ok? just have to sort out getting to it from Brighton

Gingeme · 26/11/2006 17:32

jmcmugwump can I ask how often your expressing and when in the day do you so it? My evenings sound very much like totalyfloatys what with feeding lo forever and feeling guilty for not spending enough time with ds3 and snapping at him for the smallest things. Would like to start expressing so I could atleast make dinner properly.
Havnt had him weighed yet totaly. Will be goign to the clinic Wed afternoon. Should be interesting as hes been feeding for England this weekend. When do you give your lo a formula feed? At night? Think Im gonna get some tomm.

agrimum · 26/11/2006 18:57

4 1/2 weeks and it feels like a lifetime! It has taken me several days to catch up on the thread, and then I have ended up only scanning most, as hard to concentrate with screaming colicky lo. Did pick up on the cot theme. Anna has been in her cot since we came home from hospital at 4 days. She sleeps in moses basket or carry cot for naps downstairs during the day, but is in big cot next to me at night.

Think we have turned a corner this weekend as have introduce 2 formula feeds. LO had lost 1oz at week 3 and only put on 3 oz last week and still not back to birth weight. I am still bf as much as possible and expressing to try and keep up production but 10pm feed and middle of night are bottles I'm afraid. But I have got over the guilty feeling, as long as I can continue to give her at least some breast milk.

Gingeme - I was interested to see that your lo has been given BCG, I want anna to have it, but paed in hospital and HV have told me no need. However we live on a livestock farm in a TB rife area and I want her to have some protection. Do you mind telling me on what basis your LO was vaccinated? I am going to press the GP at our post natal check up.

Sorry for such long post, but feels like loads to catch up on.

Take care all

marthahm · 26/11/2006 19:49

thank you for all your kind messages. feeling better now. still a bit wobbly at times like when dh had to work half today, but not bad.have realised needed to call in all the extra can get. have had combo of friends and family doing the 12 til 2 walk so have had much more sleep .
whiffy glad you found a good osteo, i think i remember him. what's the story re fleeces. i am a little worried now as we have been given two and we even have one in her moses basket. couldn't use the address you typed.
am looking forward to the meet up, any chance of making it more central than canary wharf? we could try a more central pizza express or starbucks? i'm pretty sure there is a pizza express at kings cross.

Gingeme · 26/11/2006 20:32

I live in North London agrimum. New Southgate,Arnos Grove way thatw why babies born here automaticaly get a bcg. Terrible isnt it realy?
Yes I think a central London meet up would be easier for me too rather than Canary Wolf. Wouldnt have a clue how to get there for a start.
Been walking round since about 7pm with lo in the sling just so I can get things done. Dh took my bigger boys back to their Dads by car and lo didnt stop crying unless he was on my booby so I plonked him in it. Got dinner made, washed up and bathed ds3 without a peep. Feels a bit like Im pregnant again but without the heartburn......

marthahm · 26/11/2006 20:41

snap gingeme! did the dinner and the washing doing the swaying/bouncing dance unique to women wearing baby carriers! have just finished takeaway curry successfully without getting it on lo's head and have optimistically put her in her baby seat.
i was so pleased the sore nipples went after first week or so. sadly the feeding frenzy long sessions have left them really sore again like so many of you. anyone found anything to make them less sore. have tried lansinoh cream, different breast pads and slightly mad lady-walking round the house with them out to 'air dry' after feed as recomended by mw.
anyone know where you can get xmas outfits for babies-reindeer/father christmas etc...?

Gingeme · 26/11/2006 20:46

Oh praise the lord Im not the only one then. Just took him out of it because he was getting rather warm in it. Backs hurting a little now too. onder if hell stay asleep long enough for me to have a bath. Dont hold much hope on that one and Ithink the sling might get a bit wet....

Swizzler · 26/11/2006 21:13

Well, W just got off to sleep after 2 hrs feeding, crying, bouncing etc. etc. - glad to hear he's not the only one! He is tired, keeps yawning and rubbing eyes, but will he settle? Ho no. DH and I frazzled but crossing fingers that he'ss stay asleep! Trying EBM for next feed in diff bottle, as he's not keen on the Avent one.

Supper reading so better go!

jmcmugwump · 26/11/2006 21:20

Gingeme - I try to express usually in the morning as the boobs seem fuller then, particularly as at that time of day Ellie seems satisfied on one boob, but later in the day she seems to want both of them and last night she had both of them twice before she went off to sleep!! Having said that have just expressed some now as boobs are getting really sore again, but will probably end up feeding it to her tonight - it seems to be a vicious circle at the moment trying to get into a situation where supply exceeds demand so that I can always have at least one bottle in reserve - OH wanted me to go out with him last night, only for 2 hours, but she is still so erratic with her feeding and I didn't have any expressed milk stored so I wasn't able to go with him

Agrimum - Can I suggest that when you do feed the bottles (if you are feeding formula)you express whatever is there at the same time, or otherwise your supply is never going to catch up with the demand - that way you should produce as much as your LO needs - easier said than done.

I find taht I am still getting quite sore nipples even though she seems to be latched on much better - is anyone else finding that? the HV says that they shouldn't be sore at all if she is latched on correctly no matter how much she feeds, but I am beginning not to belive her and if she is right I really don't know what to do to get her latched on better as we have now had several weeks of incorrect latching before the tongue tie was fixed to try and remedy.AArgh no wonder infant mortality was so high when they didn't have all these HV's telling you what to do - they probably starved through impropper lathcing on LOL - sore nipples are really starting to get to me now....maybe some ice cubes will numb the pain....

taffy101 · 26/11/2006 21:32

Hi everyone

omigod - lost 3 yo dd in woolworths today . Was looking at clothes and she wandered off to the toys. Was frantically running up and down the aisles with LO in pram shouting her and who should witness this spectacle but my local friendly HV. Oh the shame and irony of it At least she could look after my LO whilst I sheepishly went to collect DD when an announcement came over the tannoy to say she'd been found. Fortunately some kind person had stopped her wandering out of the shop by herself (thank you - whoever you are!!!), so no harm done thank god.

Well that was my first trip out with the two of them maybe the last!!Used to have the luxury of putting DD in pushchair (bit old for that now I know) but have hands rather full now. need to invest in buggyboard, or handcuffs or superglue or something.
BTW martha think they had xmas outfits in woolies (didn't get chance to look at sizes tho).

Does anyone elses LO's suffer with catarrh at night? Mine seems to at about 3/4am after feeding and takes along time to settle. He lies there grunting for about half an hour. DD had this too and HV told me to tilt crib by putting big books under the legs at top end. Hasn't worked in either case. Ithink she grew out of it after a couple of months.

Martha + ginge - how energetic are you. Must admit am getting fed up of my messy house.

prettycandles - when i first read your post I thought you were pregnant - my heart went out to you!!

Anyone fancy a northwest meetup sometime??

taffy101 · 26/11/2006 21:39

jmcmugwump I've heard cabbage leaves in the bra are good for sore nips!! If you're desperate you'll try anything .
Think savoy is sposed to be the best...

pmoore · 27/11/2006 07:56

Morning-

marthahm- mothercare do some outfits for christmas- very cute and start from newborn. The reindeer one is really cute.

I'm getting really upset at looking at LO and how fast she is changing and growing up. It goes by so quickly.
Another good night though LO slept from 9pm to 5.30am. Not bad just need to try and get her to bed a bit earlier so that DP and I can have some time alone. Be great to watch a DVD or TV together again.

taffy101- LO seems to suffer the suffling thing at night- when I sit her up she is fine but the book under cot legs doesn't work. HV told me it is where they are new and all the fluff from new blankets and toys etc gets in their airways.

Wow have just used my electric [ump to do some expressing and got 2 oz in 15 mins. Is that good......x Just thought Id share that withyou just hope he likes the bottle now

jmcmugwump · 27/11/2006 11:45

well - managed midnight until 5.45 this morning - yay - except couldn't get back to sleep never mind.

Millee ikwym about them growing so fast less than 4.5 nonths of breast feeding and sore nips to go!! Ellie also seems to spend a great deal of her time exercising her scowl and frown muscles - although we do get the odd smile - usually aimed at her dad - i am sure she is thinking that the grinning lunatic will go away if i just do what he wants

Swizzler · 27/11/2006 12:48

W is quite smiley in the mornings, but v grumpy towards evening. He also does a v good worried look - think he's started to realise that these loons are his parents and here to stay

Gingeme: I usually get 2-3 oz from an expressing session. Tried the NUK bottle last night and W took it well, then slept from 12:30 to just after 4 - this after a sleep from 9 to 12 . Hope he continues to like this bottle as it does help with spacing out the night feeds.

Used Milton tablets to sterlise bottles yesterday, but expressed milk now smells chloriney - do you think it's OK? Rinsed everything again to get rid of some of the smell, tho it says on the packet not to.

Martha: glad to hear you're getting some help, esp now your DH is back at work. How are you feeling?

Meet-up: if Canary Wharf is a problem, what about going back to the Pizza Express off Oxford Street? Plenty of room for buggies. We need to decide on DATES: get out those packed social calendars !

Mellin · 27/11/2006 12:52

So this breastfeeding thing is really hard work, is anyone else finding the same? dd is 4 weeks now and seems to spend most of the day wanting to feed and waking every 2 hours at night as well. I'm knackered. God I hope it gets better/easier.

Gingme - I am interested to hear how your expressing goes as I would like to try it soon myself. How old is your bub? I was told by mw to wait until 6 weeks but am worried she will hate the bottle (she refuses a dummy). I just can't get my head around how I can express and store for the future when dd is drinking every oz I have and my boobs are flat as pancakes by about 4pm!

youngmum21 · 27/11/2006 12:57

hi all,

oh rite guess we not doing to bad with the sleeping then but then again i am bottle feeding! !

Well i did put lo in bed with me this morn after dp went to work and she seemed to love all the space!!! i was scared that id squash her though so didnt realy sleep!!!

totallyfloaty35 · 27/11/2006 14:12

I had probs in early days expressing enough milk, but find that if i feed her from one boob then express from the other i can get about 3-4oz in 10mins,which is great as in evening cant get any out.I gave my baby a bottle when she was 2wks and had no problems,my HV said introduce it before 3wks if you going to or they get too fussy.
Sleepwise she has slept through since she was a wk old, roughly 11-7 so im spoilt really.
She is 6wks old now and i cant beleive how big she is,she weighs 11lbs and is now very smiley, she smiles like mad when she sees her sisters and her toys. They grow up so fast,i had a bit of a cry watching my 11yr old lying next to the baby and singing to her,she looked so big,its hard to imagine that she was once that tiny

totallyfloaty35 · 27/11/2006 14:13

oh,thats when i express in morning, when she has first feed, not being very clear today

catgirl · 27/11/2006 14:16

just want to vent some anger please - bundled B up just as he was dropping off to sleep to go out to a breast feeding drop in help session - not too far away - 5 min walk - of course B does not sleep on the way, but cries and continues to cry. Get in - no sign of breast feeding stuff but someone different talking to a group about weaning and first foods etc - they are with their children who are all at least 5 months old . End up feeding a screaming B and then coming home.

Feel slightly better, not sure keyboard does. Of to read the thread now, am sure I will be back later. By the way B now in the living room, with his dummy, so hopefully asleep. Very tempted just to go the way of formula, but will see what I feel like when I calm down a bit... spoke too soon - B crying, later....
