Good afternoon ladies and thanks for all the tips. We went to my parents for the weekend which I was dreading due to lo feeding like a little piggy on Friday but it was briliant. He slept all the way there after a big feed before we letf(about 2 hour journey). Fed when we got there.Lots of cuddles from Nanny and Grandad and fed again about 3 hourly. Had a long feed in the evening which he usualy does and slept till about 4am fed then again about 7.30 fed and woke again about 9.30. Which was all helped by dh sleeping on the top bunk with my ds3. I was in my Mums queen size bed on my own. Got tonnes of sleep. Last night however was a different matter. He spent most of the night with me feeding so all that extra sleep was wasted realy. Been looking on ebay for breast pumps. Gonna get the Avent petal pump. Used that with ds3 and it was brill. The bf lady is visiting me tomm morning. Shes a friend of a friend so only lives up the road so she can pop round whenever she likes. Think things are on the up at last x

Hi
Lo is 3 weeks old tomoz. DH took him xmas shopping last friday while me and DD went to hairdressers. An old lady stopped to look at LO and looked horrified when DH said how old he was - must think I'm a terrible mother for letting baby out with daddy at such young age!
I'd expressed milk for him to take shopping (used medela electric pump BTW). I decided to start expressing about a week before cos with DD I was hopeless at expressing but this time round I seem to have plenty to spare. Although by the time the next feed was due after hairdressers my boobs felt like lead balloons and it was such a relief when I could feed LO again!

MumMe1 · 20/11/2006 17:01

Can I join? DD was born on 26th Oct but I only just found the mumsnet site

Great to hear that other people are in a similar situation - I'm exhausted from the lack of sleep!! Certainly a shock to the system!
;)

jmcmugwump · 20/11/2006 17:01

LO seems to be settling down alot more although still seems to have marathon feeds. We are using the very occasional bottle of formula when she has one of these feeding sessions just to fill her up and get her off to sleep but I have decided not to beat myself up about it as it won't do her any harm and if it makes me less stressed about not being able to satisfy her then it has to be good all round.
Am finally starting to feel that I can see the wood for the trees now which is good as OH went back to work today!
She is a very alert little girl, and really quite contented, I am thinking I am a very lucky mummy at this moment in time

Gingeme · 20/11/2006 20:01

taffy101 Ive just got one of those breastpumps from ebay. Are they any good? Gonna start expressing soon so we dont have another night like last night. Got a dentist appt in 2 weeks too so if it takes ages atleast dh has got some milk just in case.

catgirl · 21/11/2006 08:23

welcome Mumme1 - it is good to hear we are all going through the same kind of stuff isn't it - not that I would wish sleep depravation on anyone.... !

Gingeme - good luck with the expressing - a friend of mind swore by her electric pump.

Swizzler - don't think I will see you at the Rio today, forgot it is baby massage at my doctors, and they will also weigh B, who hasn't been weighed in 3 weeks! He certainly looks and feels like he is putting on weight, but would like to know so that will make me feel good about bf-ing!

A great night last night: gave B a bottle at about 9pm (seem to have little milk to satisfy him at that time), dh then brought him to bed at about 11 pm - he then woke at 2 am, had a bottle, back to bed by 3am - he is still asleep now! Although I can hear some sounds of him stirring. Having said that, yesterday day time was awful, no sooner than I had finished feeding him, been to the loo then he wanted feeding again - I certainly am feeding him all over the place - Education Offices, Library - don't care anymore!

AFter dh having a week off last week and us doing stuff as a fmily, ds1 is now asking if I can pick up him from school etc, rather than the childminder - makes me feel very guilty, but I really want to get ds2 into some sort of routine and catch up on sleep etc! My plan is after xmas to collect him a couple of times a week, but keep our childminder on, as I have to go back to work....

have run out of time to write, ds2 waking...

Swizzler · 21/11/2006 09:07

Well, the growth spurt has hit - up most of the night feeding and trying to settle restless baby . I'm going to dig out that breat pump to see if it helps re mammoth night feedings - W feeding/yelling from 9 to 1am. Keep telling myself it will pass, but getting v grumpy and cross with everyone (inc the baby) at night - he is of course adorable when the sun comes up .

Torn betw going to the film today and tring to catch up on sleep - think the latter might win . Will take W out for some fresh air this morning, tho, and have a stiff talk with him about the need to sleep when it is dark! any tips on this appreciated - we have a routine of bath and bed but he just wasn't sleepy last night...

catgirl · 21/11/2006 14:28

Swizzler - hate to tell you that sometimes they just have bad nights.
But hope you managed to get some rest today. Have you thought about topping him up with an ounce or two of formula at the end of a feed? your dh could feed him, and you could express to stimulate more milk? that way you might only need to top up with formula for one night? Or if he is just sucking rather than feeding, have you thought about a dreaded dummy? We have succumbed to using one - I really don't like them - but used it very successfully with ds1, and it seems to settle B, which is good as my boobs are still getting a bit sore. dh doesn't have a problem using them, sees them as something positive that ds2 will get comfort from and how can that be wrong.

I think your body catches up with a growth spurt quite quickly doesn't it - I didn't bf this long last time, so really not sure!

B fell asleep as I left baby massage, so thought I would treat myself to lunch out -nothing fancy, just a sandwich in a nice local cafe - guess who woke up the minute I placed my order - yep - so I ate one handed as he feed from under my tee-shirt! oh well. Thankfully he was feeding on my left side, so I could eat with my right hand!

Hope you are all having good days! I am off to fall asleep in front of the tv!

Swizzler · 21/11/2006 15:08

Catgirl: we've tried a dummy, but he won't take it if agitated or hungry. Trying to avoid formula as there's a history of allergies i the family. Tried expressing for the first time today - managed 4 oz so far. Any idea how much to give him for an evening feed?

W is being v good today to make up for last night - feeding, napping and now gurgling in his chair

youngmum21 · 21/11/2006 17:49

hi all.

Can i just ask how long is it before everything down there felt better i know everyone is diff just wondered how long it b b4 i felt normal lol well normalish!!!

Swizzler · 21/11/2006 17:56

Youngmum: did you have stitches? Took me about 2 weeks before the pain went and about 4 to feel normal - tho saggy belly is still here!

youngmum21 · 21/11/2006 17:58

no i didnt have any sitches just a tear a 1st degree one is that bad not sure???

catgirl · 21/11/2006 21:19

swizzler - worth trying dummy again, as B wasn't having one a couple of weeks ago and does now - sucks for about 10/20 mins after a feed then sleeps and it drops out. Can see where you are coming from re formula. I give B a 4oz bottle at night time - so start with that I guess! Well done!

Youngmum21 - do you know I have just realised that I feel normal down there - hadn't really thought about it. I had a first degree tear, no stitches too. DS2 is 5 weeks by the way. Worth mentioning at your 6 week check if it doesn't feel right?

Off for a bath now - luxury!

totallyfloaty35 · 21/11/2006 22:34

I still feel a bit weird down below, but i did have a 3rd degree tear, all i can say is when i need the loo i really need the loo!!

PrettyCandles · 22/11/2006 08:56

From my experience, if you only had a 1st degree with no stitches, you should be feeling fairly normal by now. I am (though I haven't tried it out yet IYSWIM ) and I had that this time. But previously I had 2nd degree with lots of stitches and felt almost completely normal by this stage. I certainly had more problems with needing to go, and knowing that I needed to go, the times that I had had more damage and lots of stitches.

Gingeme · 22/11/2006 10:45

Good morning ladies. My friend came round yesterday to give me some advice needed about breast feeding. Feel so much more at ease about it all now. Swizzler when they feed loads it does indeed mean they are going to have a growth spurt. Its called cluster feeding and they are getting your supply up ready for it. She has lent me an Ella Roo sling which is just fantastic. Edward loves it though I was only carrying him around the flat in it yesterday but it was so good cause I was totaly hands free. Gonna try it going shopping today save having him scream round Tesco. Anyway keep up the good work ladies. xxxx

pmoore · 22/11/2006 11:40

Morning- Haven't posted for ages.

Bad news in family my gran has only been given 3 months to live- trying to take LO there as much as I can at moment as she is not going to see her grow up.

On a happy note Samantha slept from 9.30pm to 7am so lots of sleep for me. Going to start baby massage this afternoon.

Anyone have a bottle fed baby on a growth spurt? LO is 6 weeks old and I feel like she is constantly hungry and not sure whether to just keep feeding her. This whole recommendation of weaning at 6 months now is worrying!?
LO was weighed yesterday and is 11lb 14oz already- good weight gain though been steady for three weeks.

On the feeling ok down below thing I am just now beginning to feel kind of normal but did have lots of stitches and LO's hand tearing deep. Got 6 week check on Thursday time to think about contraception- DP thinks this gives him the green light!

Swizzler · 22/11/2006 12:16

Sorry to hear your bad news Pmoore . I know I miss my grandma more now LO is here as she would have been great with him as she was with my nieces.

Re: growth spurt - much better night last night - feeding every 2 hrs as usual but quiet in between and slept from about 7pm so we had a relaxed evening. W lso took 2 oz ebm at 10pm - gld he took to the bottle as I was a bit worried he'd spit it out. He's asleep again now and probably growing...

Gingeme: the sling sounds great. I've been using my Wilkinet sling for short shopping trips and it's so much easier than the pram - just bung LO in and go - no worrying about steps etc.

Got my 6wk check tomorrow - we're using condoms plus bfing for contraception at the mo, really don't want to go back on the pill if I can avoid it.

youngmum21 · 22/11/2006 13:03

well it has only been ten days and still not feeling a 100% down there yet!!

And i dont know bout any one else but im feeling so randy at the min my sex drive seems to of come bak with a vengence, cant wait till i can jump on dp !!

P moore sorry to hear bout your about your gran! xx

Gingeme · 22/11/2006 14:01

Pmoore sorry for your sad news. I know how hard it is when your gran is unwell. Im just so sad my gran didnt get to see my 2 youngest ds's
Wow cant believe you ladies are thinking about sex already! I have been feeling the odd wtinge but have told my dh hes not going near me till a)hes stopped smoking and b) hes atleast booked the appt for his snip! . Knowing my luck all hell do is get 'it out' and Ill get bloody pregnant.
Yes swizzler the sling is brill. I just used it to walk round Asda which is usualy a nightmare with lo screaming and ds3 running around but lo slept all the way round and ds3 sat very quietly and good in the trolley for me which resulted in him having a go on the ride when we had finnished.
Got my pump through the post today. Cant wait to try it but was told by the bf lady not to try it till Edward is 6 weeks old. Not long then. Still hes doing pretty well at the mo with feeding so Im not going to rush it.

Swizzler · 22/11/2006 17:54

Youngmum: I should wait a week or too till you feel you've healed - we waited for about 4 weeks (if I remember rightly -seems ages ago!).

Gingeme: which pump did you get? I'm using the Avent Isis hand pump which seems to work well.

DS chuntering again - he's been feeding constantly for the past hr but obviously isn't done yet - better go!

Gingeme · 22/11/2006 18:29

A medela electric pump. Its a bit noisy though. Might try it next week when ds3 is at nursery just to see what its like. My lady told me your milk is at its most in the morning so Ill try it when lo is having his breakfast. Obviously on the other booby

catgirl · 22/11/2006 18:54

Pmore - sorry to hear about your Gran.

I'm sorry - but some of you are not just thinking about sex but having it?! ohmygoodness - I shall not be telling dh this! Who has the energy!

ds1 being quite teary and challenging at the mo - not sure if he is coming down with a cold or realisation that ds2 is here to stay - probably a bit of both - calpol the wonder drug will be coming out tonight!

Getting on with the xmas shopping - think I may have nearly finished it - have to admit that my family are down next weekend to collect have to get it done by then, rather than 25 December.
