Assignment due tomorrow. One little girl has chest infection. Any chance I'm going to get an extension? Asked at 4am from tutor...

StuntNun · 12/11/2014 08:24

Depends on the tutor I guess Lily, I found most to be very understanding when I needed an extension. I hope O gets better soon.

StuntNun · 12/11/2014 12:22

Nice one lily. Good luck.

Chilled day here after birthday chaos. Although having said that we are off to a birthday party at 4pm Confused

MsJupiter · 12/11/2014 15:19

Poor P Pass Sad L fell up the stairs last week and chomped his tongue which was very bloody. He was sore and bruised for about 24 hrs and then back to normal. Hope teeth are ok.

I've been at the hospital today with my Mum as she has been having a gamma knife treatment for a meningioma. I don't know if any of you NHS types have worked in that sort of field but it seems bloody amazing. The treatment was virtually painless, just a bad headache afterwards from the thing they attached to her head. Hopefully she will feel better after a few days' rest. I feel a bit odd though now it is over, I guess we have all been quite worried for her.

I nearly went to the poppies on Monday too Eliza but decided I couldn't be faffed with tubes and crowds. Such a brilliant installation.

Hope everyone else is well, nice to see you back Kyz Smile

PetiteRaleuse · 12/11/2014 18:59

Wednesday went fine for me until 5 and my two angels turned into demonic monsters intent on pulling each other's hair out.

There are some lovely things about having two toddlers, but some really awful things too. And the awful moments are v draining.

I have picked up LO's throat infection, that she had before the weird face. Fortunately I don't have the mouth sores as otherwise I would be drinking my Wednesday evening wind down wine with a straw.

And that is never a good idea.

Kyz · 12/11/2014 20:16

Hey all,

It's quiet on here today! Hope all is well quiche-wide.

Bless her lily hope she's better soon, glad you got that extension

hope the 4pm party went well Eliza!

sounds like a long day msjj hope your mum is ok now :)

goshes pr hope bed time isn't too far away and hope you feel better soon!

Lots going on here, it's my cousins funeral tomorrow and i've been mentally trying to prepare. As much as you can anyway.

Elizadoesdolittle · 12/11/2014 21:11

Ah kyz I hope tomorrow goes well. As well as a funeral can go anyway. Hugs xx

Both girls behaved remarkably well at the party considering the excitement levels and lateness.

Have a quiet day tomorrow. IT's E's endoscopy on Friday and I have to be at the hospital at 6.30am. Typically DH is on a course now until the end of the week so DD1 is staying at the in laws tomorrow and they are going to drop her at school for me on Friday. They are also going to pick her up from school tomorrow and take her out for a treat so will just be me and E tomorrow. I'm getting quite apprehensive about the procedure now. The anesthetist called me this evening and explained that they will give her the general anesthetic via an oxygen mask whilst she is sitting on my lap so I am feeling better that there won't be any needles involved and it's a very quick procedure (between 15-20mins) so she won't need to be under for long. She will hopefully know very little about it.

PetiteRaleuse · 12/11/2014 21:24

eliza I have had many endoscopies. I think for a child of this age they have no choice but to put them under. Without you have to resist the gag reflex and not move. Very hard, believe me.

It won't be a full general. They will just knock her out for a few moments. Very easy. She will fall asleep and then wake up very quickly and smoothly.

One thing you should know is that they might blow air into her tummy. This will mean she will be gassy when she wakes up.

When I woke up it was quite painful and the nurses said, oh, just fart and burp away, we don't mind Blush

I think that, and a tickly throat, were the worst side effects.

If they don't do the blowing air in she will wake up with no more than a tickly throat.

But they do need to put her under. Really. It is hard even as an adult to handle it, even though it really honestly doesn't hurt. Promise you that.

PetiteRaleuse · 12/11/2014 21:29

I have had them with and without btw. I would never expect a child to go without. Your entire being rejects the tube. If the mask doesn't work they will just pop a drip into her hand and it will be very quick. Promise. I hope the procedure gets you answers or reassures you. It really is amazing what they can see. Last time I watched the whole thing and was able to see the stitches in my stomach (bright blue!)

Elizadoesdolittle · 12/11/2014 22:04

Thanks pr. That's very reassuring. Having to help restrain her whilst they shoved the tube down her for the PH study was one of the worst experiences of my life. I am very glad she will be under a general and have no idea what is going on. I guess it's just sort of hit me that it's actually happening if you know what I mean. Hopefully we are not far away from finding out what is causing her issues.

MsJupiter · 12/11/2014 22:27

Ah Eliza I will be thinking of you and little E tomorrow. Hope it all goes well and like you say she won't be aware of much of it. It must be very nerve wracking for you. Lots of love.

PetiteRaleuse · 12/11/2014 22:31

A GA mask with no drip is referred to as a sedation here. It will be a nap for her and v easy for you. Remember, if mask doesn't work (I vom with the mask thing) it will just be a hand drip thingy. Easy peasy. They can switch it on and off. Very easy :) minutes to do.

I really hope you get answers and will be thinking of you Friday xx Enjoy tomorrow :)

YellowWellies · 12/11/2014 22:51

Eliza good luck love. I really hope it solves the mystery. Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks

QuicheMama · 13/11/2014 03:47

3am. Again. Still, I have had a chance to partly catch up on Quiche Happenings.
All good here Smile J is a joy, but I would rather not be ousted from my bed every night. We have a small double, and being rather cuddly there is not room for the two of us plus a starfish with an impressive kick and head-butt. Thankfully the red racing car bed is quite comfy.

YellowWellies · 13/11/2014 03:51

Hello QM big cuddles! All the cool kids are up at 3am. I've just changed a poonami and Lil is now snoozing on my chest. How's life on the rock? xxx

Lily311 · 13/11/2014 06:04

Waves at qm

O is worst this morning, her temp is up and the coughing is just so painful for her.

Good luck eliza.

PetiteRaleuse · 13/11/2014 06:37

Bollocks. Is it the other way round? Ie just the drip is the sedation and the mask the actual anaesthetic? I actually woke up in the night trying to remember. (Not at 3, but I'm not one of the cool kids Grin )

I'm sure they explained that GA came in two parts - one to Deal with pain and one to stop you moving? Am sure that's a vvvvv basic explanation that they gave to a hysterical patient a few years ago :)

Wandathewindfairy · 13/11/2014 07:22

Good luck eliza fwiw I had GA via a mask last year for my sterilisation as the couldn't get into a vein ( after 4 kids 1 c section and 3 PPHs my. Erin's are wrecked) and it was delicious!

I tried to get on yesterday but my I pad wouldn't let me write. It is feeling old and decrepit.

Good job on your assignment extension lily.

Hope today is bearable kyz Thanks

First parents evening for DS1 yesterday. The teacher was running an hour behind which made everyone cross before they went in. Then DH suddenly morphed Into pushy parent. You can imagine me sat there all normaland pleased while she is raving that dS1 can write his name and knows his phonics and then DH goes. " yes we know that I would like to move on, what provision do you have for languages........blah blah " I turned to him Shock WTF. He is so laid back usually. I was pleasedish, but felt a bit sorry for the teacher. (The language thing is because he feels a it held back by not having great focus on languages when he went to school)

O has a cold. This is unusual actually for him to be properly under the weather but at least he is sitting still.

I have a lump in the arch of my foot. I found it the other day and then had some reflexology on Tues, and she thought about from a reflexologists point of view and then last night I felt it again and maybe felt a bit concerned. GP? Podiatrist ? Does anyone know about feet. (I asked Dr Glogle. It as always that is never wise)

PetiteRaleuse · 13/11/2014 08:21

Never too late to learn a language wanda he could learn one now (your DH that is). It's a real shame that language learning isn't a bigger focus over there, he is right to push on that one imo. Looks like your ds1 has settled in well then? That's great :)

Wandathewindfairy · 13/11/2014 09:28

He really has. And is nice when you are told your child is bright instead of just thinking it yourself.

My stepmother was a french teacher and by all accounts the younger they start the better. when I worked our company gave a number of us language lessons. I was pants at school, I was in a lower group and had a shitty teacher, but with the lessons at work I managed to learn enough to write to the French And even talk to Control Room Engineers in French. And it helped when I was running back and forth to Brussels as well.

Maybe some lessons should be be DHs Christmas present. Hmm

PetiteRaleuse · 13/11/2014 09:59

He could download the Duolingo app. I am using it to learn German. It's free. I agree it is best to start young though.

QuicheMama · 13/11/2014 16:42

Windy!

Waves back at Lily and big hugs for O

Wanda get the to a GP but try not to worry x
