Happy Anniversary YF and yes, it probably is just the occasion to bring AF out of the woodwork!!

ELF1981 · 28/08/2007 12:38

Hi all

On the talking, Evelyn seems to have taken a step back and has "lost" some letters over the past week or so, her "F" now sounds like a W for Waye for Faye my sister and WiWi for FiFi, not sure what has gone off!

Been a busy bank holiday - we drove to the East Coast on Saturday morning and stopped the night in FIL's caravan with FIL and MIL. We spent the Sat in the outdoor swimming pool or on the beach (she still doesn't like the sand) and the Sunday we spent at the fair where she went on all the rides and had a great time! We were going to go swimming yesterday but all the centres were shut!!

Hi Everyone,

My name is Jane and I have a 22 month old daughter called Mia, who was born on the 11.10.05

I also have 3 other children, Madison 19, James 18 & Dylan 5.

I am 43 and I live with my DP of 26 years in Merton Park, London, SW19. My eldest daughter is an Estate agent (LOL) in Wimbledon and my eldest son is at college studying accountancy.

I am quite new to forums, I started a few weeks ago on the buy & sell as I had a clear out and realized I buy far too much for my children and it's taking over the house LOL.

I have now found this one and thought I would come and have a chat.

Mia is now going through the terrible two's stage (it always starts about 18 months, I don't know why they call it "The terrible Two's" She is quite good really, much better than her 5 year old brother, but she does tend to copy him a lot, which is causing quite a few problems, I keep finding her on the kitchen counter tops for example, that's the problem with having older siblings, if you put something up high, they will take it down, you have to have eye's in the back of your head LOL

Anyway I just thought I would introduce myself and I assume most of you have known each other for ages, I hope you don't mind me joining in.

Jane x

Hi Jane

My name is Emma, I'm 25 (birthday soon!) and a mum to Evelyn Boo who will be 2 on 6th Oct. I have some pictures on my thread of her but I need to get them updated, she's really tall now!
I am a full time working mum (eeek) and in my final year of studying to be an accountant (well, the first stage, currently doing AAT and then ACCA).
Welcome to the thread

Your pictures are lovely by the way

stinkymalinki · 28/08/2007 20:43

Hi Jane, and welcome

I'm Janice, i'm 27, live in Kent, and mum to Joseph (Joey) who will be 2 on the 26th September - not strictly an October baby, but my due date was the 7th October, and i'd done all the antenatal chat with the October bods, so i stayed I'm usually a full-time working mum (i'm a nurse), but currently off sick with a prolapsed disc, so i'm having a go at being a SAHM at the moment!

Nice to hear you had a good bank holiday Elf. We didn't do much at all, but at least DH was around to enjoy some time off too this time around - usually he's working!

Yokefleet · 30/08/2007 12:16

We are having distrubed nights here again at the moment Thomas didn't settle quickly last night and was screaming the house down at 3am this morning but as soon as I go in and pick him up he is fine I don't know what is up with him am assuming its his teeth but I'm not sure.
Hope you are all well. x

YF - bummer about the disturbed nights. We managed to get Johnny sleeping through again but he's been having such bother with his teeth that I have been dosing him up with Nurofen at bedtime, so I don't know if that's helping. His wee cheeks were so red and blotchy and his chin was all sore from the dribbles.

The salad spinner obsession is still to the fore. This morning, I went in to get him and between lifting him and latching on (all of 30 seconds), he managed to say "daddy" and "salad". No "good morning mummy" or "is that lazy daddy still in bed", nope, "salad". My neighbour gave us a toy that her boys are finished with. It's kind of like a cross between a shape sorter and a spinning top. It has a plunger on the top to make it spin inside. I found him sitting on the living room floor spinning the new toy with one hand and the salad spinner with the other.

Welcome Jane. Your pics are lovely on your profile. I have one ds born on 21st october. He finally started walking in June and is currently saying one word at a time, except for "shoeson" which I think he thinks is one word anyway

Jane4 · 30/08/2007 15:47

Mia is talking a lot, she is putting 3 words together ie: my feet hurt, mummy sitting there, but I think it helps having Dylan who's 5.5 and never stops talking, he didn't talk as much as Mia at this age, but has soon made up for it, I can tell you, you spend the first few years encouraging them to talk, then the next few years telling them to be quiet, lol. She has really come on over the holidays having Dylan at home all the time, plus I had my cousins 3 children to stay for 2 weeks (13,12 & 9) Dylan is really good with her and sings nursery rhymes to her, she loves wind the bobbin up, sleeping bunnies and horsey horsey.
stinkymalinki - Sorry to hear about your prolapsed disc, sounds painful, I suffer from a bad back, the 4 pg have made this worse (but they are worth it)
Elf - Lovely pics, such a cutie, my son James has just passed his level 2 AAT, he got his results last week, he passed sage level 1, but failed sage level 2 TWICE, he thinks they must have "taught him incorrectly" (likely story!) LOL
Mawbroon - lol at salad spinner obsession, Mia is obsessed with playdough atm, she sits there for hours, sticking eyes, ears etc on a big ball of the stuff, I actually made it for the 1st time ever, it's really easy and doesn't smell like the bought one. Her other obsession is with her megasketcher, does a scribble then erases, it makes such a racket, I have to hide it after about 10 minutes otherwise I'd go mad. lol
Yokefleet - hope the teething gets better, I hate teething, I wish they would all come the same day and get it over with, would make life so much easier.

stinkymalinki · 30/08/2007 20:04

Joey spiked a temperature of 39.4 degrees last night, which gave us a fright

He'd been fine all day, no obvious signs of illness and was otherwise fine apart from radiating so much heat, so i didn't panic too much, but we phoned NHS Direct just to be on the safe side. As he wasn't 'ill' in himself, they said its probably just down to teething (he's getting his back teeth through all together, poor mite!), and to dose him up with calpol and see how he goes.

His temp is still up (38.5 when he let me get close enough to poke the thermometer in his ear!), and he's been a bit grumpier today, but otherwise seems ok. I don't know -i'm a bloody nurse FGS! I'm cool as a cucumber looking after patients, but when its your own child, its a whole different story

Yokefleet · 31/08/2007 07:54

SM - How was Joey last night hun? I hope he is getting back to normal.
Jane- oh it sounds lovely having Dylan telling Mia rhymes My niece goes to the local Welsh school nursery class and she comes round all the time singing to Thomas in Welsh which is lovely! (although she still has a Yorkshire accent at the min so sounds a bit strange sometimes too!)
mb - sorry couldn't help but laugh at Johnny saying salad first thing!

OP posts:
stinkymalinki · 31/08/2007 08:51

He seems a bit brighter, but i have no idea what his temperature is doing as he screams the house down if i so much as look at him with the thermometer!

Jane4 · 31/08/2007 16:56

Stinkymalinki - Hows Joey? Hope he's feeling better.

mawbroon · 01/09/2007 13:17

Hope Joey is doing ok now stinky.
So much for Johnny sleeping through. The past two nights he has been awake through the night. Normally I just feed him for two minutes and he's happy to go back to bed, but the other night, he wouldn't let go! I was trying to take him off my boob to get him back to bed and he would just bury his face further in so I couldn't get at him. He wanted to feed for half an hour!! Yes, it's lovely and snuggly, but it was 3.30am We have been renovating my flat for the past 11 weeks as 6 years of renting out had left the place a tip, so Johnny has been back and forth there every day for ages and he's had to nap there in his buggy a couple of times, so perhaps he's just a bit unsettled. He won't know what's happening when I start taking him to toddler groups and the zoo and the like. It's all finished now and we have a new tenant moving in on monday, so there is an end in sight!! Hooray. It's all been a bit stressful especially as we started the renovation one week after moving house.
Johnny has cried every time he's done a poop for the last couple of days. They were soft looking ones, so I don't think they hurt him on the way out, so I think he's getting more aware of what's going on his nappy. I don't think he's anywhere near ready for potty training, but he does like to sit on the potty and put his toys in it.... must stop that one before there's actually anything in the potty.

stinkymalinki · 01/09/2007 14:37

Joey's much better now thanks.

Mawbroon - Joey also seems to have issues with poo at the moment. In the last month or so, he's suddenly developed an awareness of what he's doing, and seems to get terribly embarrassed about it, to the point that he'll skulk off somewhere private to do the deed, then gets all upset when i have to change his nappy afterwards. He does occasionally sit on the potty, but still seems to have the same issues. I hope its just (another!) phase!

Completely off-topic, but has anyone else been watching Heroes on BBC2? I'm hooked, which is most unusual for me as i'm not normally a 'TV person' (much prefer my books), and Milo Ventimiglia who plays Peter Petrelli is absolutely delicious(drool!!)

Jane4 · 01/09/2007 16:15

Mia was getting nasty red sores, so I left her nappy off for a few days during the day and it's much better now I think a combination of the heat and of course the contents were making her sore, even though I changed her regularly, so while she was nappy less I tried to potty train her, but in a few weeks has only done 2 on the potty, the rest on the floor (luckily I have washable flooring not carpets) she now refuses to wear a nappy or if I manage to get one on her she takes it off, most of her poos are done early morning so we have only had a couple of those to clear up (thank goodness) I know it's really early, but she was showing all the signs and even now she comes and tells me she has done a wee, but of course points to the puddle on the floor
I nearly broke my neck the other evening it was quite dark and I slipped on a puddle and landed on my backside LOL
Anyway I'm living in hope that one day soon she will sit on one of her 3 potties dotted around the house and actually do something on it

ELF1981 · 02/09/2007 15:04

Jane4 - Evelyn was getting quite good a month or so ago - she'd poo, tell us and lay on the floor for us to change her nappy, and she would tell us she needed a wee and we'd sit her on the potty for one.
So DH and I decided she might be ready and we'd try to potty train her.
One day she did all but one wee on the floor, one went in the potty. Now she pretty much refuses to go anywhere near it, she doesn't tell us when she has done a poo, and she always tells us she hasn't if we ask her (when she has!)
Think we're going to leave it for a while. Like you, I am okay as no carpets, but still dont like stepping and falling in it

mawbroon · 03/09/2007 08:07

I am taking the lazy mummy approach regarding toilet training (like I do with everything else ) and will wait until Johnny comes and tells me . At the moment, he does sometimes go and sit on the potty, but it seems to be after the event, so although he's aware of what's going on, he doesn't seem to be aware enough just yet. He had the most horrible poop in his nappy this morning which he must have done quite early on in the night as it was all caked on to his bum and very difficult to wipe off. His bum was red and bleeding and the poor mite was howling . One clean nappy, some nurofen and some sudocreme and he seems ok though. He had some fairly spicy chilli the other night and I'm guessing that it's still hot on the way out. Poor wee lamb.

DH and I were out at the fireworks concert for the end of the festival and it was the first time that we have been out on our own for months and months. The concert is held in Princes street gardens and the fireworks are set off from the castle above and it's a fantastic spectacle. Now that we are not going out to the flat that we were renovating every night and weekend, we will be able to go and enjoy more stuff like this.

Yokefleet · 03/09/2007 09:05

mb sounds like a lovely night for you and dh. Glad Johnny seems ok now hun x
We too aren't planning on toilet training any time soon, want to wait until Thomas's speech is better.

We have got a HV check next week for 2yr old. Have you? I thought someone had told me that they had stopped doing this one? Mind you I don't mind as we haven't seen the HV since Thomas was 8 months old!

OP posts:
ELF1981 · 03/09/2007 12:27

ours is 18-24 months, so I took Evelyn a while ago for the checkup. I know some HV's chase if this one gets missed! Though TBH I dont think there was anything special in it!

Jane4 · 03/09/2007 12:41

In my experience it usually takes longer for boys to gain bladder control, DD1 was potty trained at 17 months and never wet her pants at nursery, DS1 was about 2 and again would never wet his pants, DS2 was 2.4 (the age the HV's recommend) but he still (very rarely) wets if he gets too excited or is tickled (he is 5.8)
Mia just did a wee on the potty after 1st doing a wee in daddy's shoes (she was wearing them at the time lol)

mawbroon · 03/09/2007 12:45

Ours doesn't do a 2yo check, in fact I think the HV said that now it's only the 6 week check and that's it unless there are any worries. As we are new to the practice, she did a home visit but then she said that everything seemed great and that we didn't need her!! Next time they will be in touch will be for the booster vaccinations at around age 4.

Johnny is just not himself this morning. There have been tears and clinginess which isn't like him. He ate a big lunch though - declaring my home made carrot and corriander soup "mmmmmm" and now he's off to bed. My house is a disaster and here I am on MN instead of making use of his naptime.

mawbroon · 03/09/2007 12:48

x post Jane. PMSL about weeing in Daddy's shoes. I think I have heard that about boys before so I'm not in any great hurry with Johnny. Also the longer I can go out and about without having to search for the nearest toilet, the better. I feel that my life will be very different once we start having to hunt down all the loos!

Yokefleet · 03/09/2007 16:23

pmsl at the wee in shoes!!

The 2yr check is done at home here so I will see what happens and report back on Monday.

Johnny sounds just like Thomas has been for the past couple of weeks. He is always close to tears (meaning it doesn't take much to upset him) and is stuck to my leg most of the day!

This thread is nearly a year old! Shall we start a new one again on Joey's birthday?
My boy is exactly one month away from being 2 I can't believe it!!

OP posts:
ELF1981 · 03/09/2007 20:46

YF you can have the honors of starting a new thread, we're near the end of this one, cant believe it has been going for a year!

My friend has told me she is just gone six weeks pregnant, she had her first baby in Aug 05, her second Oct 06 and this one is due April 08. I best pull my finger out!!

Evelyn has also been very clingy, my car failed its MOT (nothing serious, on the ABS sensor, going to cost £150 to fix and not in at the garage til Wed) and so we have been trekking from ours to the bus stop, to the childminders and then me to work on the bus. I take her in the pram (even though she loves the walk) because I have very little time to do it all in the morning, and yet today on the journey there and back, she sobbed because she wanted to sit on my knee on the bus rather than next to me in the pram, bless her.
