Family Stress www.mumsnet.com/Talk?topicid=7&threadid=359966&stamp=070723084233

mawbroon · 23/07/2007 20:26

Oh Elf, I don't know what to say to either of your problems. I don't really have any helpful advice. You must be so stressed about all of this. Hopefully our fellow MNers will be a bit more helpful than me

ELF1981 · 23/07/2007 21:06

Trust me to be having family stress, as usual!!

No food for her again today, sigh.

stinkymalinki · 23/07/2007 22:16

Sorry to read about your current troubles Elf - makes my ongoing back/work situation tame by comparison!

Incidentally, Joey has suddenly stopped eating too, although i'm sure it's more a combination of heat and new teeth coming through in his case. Toddlers are quite resilient, and Evelyn won't starve herself. With Joey, i'm just offering him more milk and fruit which seems to be doing the trick.

Started my physio today, now i ache like anything, even despite a hot bath immediately post the session. Ah well, no pain, no gain i suppose...! SM x

stinkymalinki · 23/07/2007 22:17

Also, a scary thought - in just over 2 months, my 'baby' is going to be 2!!!!!

stinkymalinki · 24/07/2007 20:09

How's Evie doing Elf? Any more luck with her eating? Hope everyone's ok. SM x

ELF1981 · 24/07/2007 20:30

Yesterday she had a small bit of banana, today she had a full banana, a youghurt, some raisens and a tiny bit of tea, so better than the past five days!!

Yokefleet · 26/07/2007 10:16

ELF how is Evie doing hun? x

ELF1981 · 26/07/2007 13:07

Well she seems to be a bit better but still not eating how she used to. This morning she told me her mouth was "ow" and said yes when I asked if it hurt, but she was pointing to her front teeth, not the back ones?

She took a long time to eat brekkie yesterday, CM said she really had to work on her! Lunch she had mash and sausage and ate most of it, as well as fruit and youghurt. No tea though.

How is everybody else?

mawbroon · 26/07/2007 15:12

Glad to hear that she's at least eating something now Elf. I remember you saying she used to eat like a horse, which is what Johnny does, so I know how worried I would be if he suddenly stopped eating!
We've had two of Johnny's cousins over this morning and for lunch. Poor Johnny is the only one who still naps and he was not impressed at being taken away from all the fun at naptime, and then he only napped 1.5hrs as if he knew he was missing all the fun!
I haven't been to any groups yet since we moved, but tomorrow I am going to a LLL group specifically for older babies and toddlers so they won't think I'm a freaky weirdo for still bf It might be full of lentil weavers though and I might be refused admission as he will be wearing a disposable

mawbroon · 27/07/2007 13:26

FFS, me and my big mouth. Guess who didn't eat his tea last night
He's dribbling and chomping on anything he can get his hands on, so my guess is teething. These will be the last four teeth and then the teething as an explanation for grumpiness is finished!

The LLL group was nice. There were around 10 mums, some tandem feeding, a couple pregnant and still feeding toddlers too so I was quite dull in comparison just feeding one child . I got twitchy when the biscuits came out though. Crumbs everywhere and Johnny quite willing to pick them up and eat them, or take some off another toddler. I didn't have to look at the label to know they had egg in them. Poor wee Johnny with his rice cake. It's just not the same!

ELF1981 · 28/07/2007 13:24

Hope the eating picks up soon MB.

Weighed Evelyn, she is still just 24lbs so I dont think she has lost anything as such.

Hope everybody is having a nice weekend, dare I say that the weather looks nice?

mawbroon · 28/07/2007 15:13

It just seemed to be a one off Elf. He doesn't seem to eat as much at teatime these days. Now that we live nearer DHs work, we all eat tea together at 5.30pm and I think he is too tired by that time to put in a good effort, but it doesn't seem to be affecting his sleeping or anything.
Johnny seems to have come on in leaps and bounds this last couple of weeks. This morning, he brought me the baby wipes and then lay down on the floor so I could change his nappy for him and he makes his own way towards his bed at naptime. Today, he helped me get the washing out of the machine and handed me the pegs! It really was helping, not "helping" IYSWIM

ELF1981 · 30/07/2007 08:16

MB - what a cutie pie you have, esp with the peg thing!

It makes me giggle when Evelyn brings me wipes etc. She'll come over and say "mummy, poo" and then get all the stuff out the bag and lie on the floor waiting for me!

I was told thats a sign that she's ready for potty training, we made a good start, but since that week of being off her food and a bit clingy, we didn't force the issue and we seem to be back to to beginning, but we'll be trying again soon.

Oh, DH was at work this weekend and I was bored - so I went shopping with Evelyn to Mothercare and brought the things she "needed":

A pillow
A duvet cover & pillow case
Some new sheets for cotbed
Two pairs of pj's
Some underwear (optimistic on potty training!)
Some socks
A FiFi dining set which she was so excited about
3 books

It cost me one hundred pounds!

That will teach DH for working at the weekends!!

mawbroon · 30/07/2007 13:35

Your poor DH Elf. You're probably spending faster than he's earning it!! Is it time for a pillow? I have no idea about these things!! Sometimes when Johnny has a cold and trouble breathing, I have tried putting his head on a pillow to help with his breathing, but he just slides off. I have no idea what he does in the night, but he only seems to sleep in the very corner of the cotbed. Honestly, a carboard box would probably do him for all the bed he uses!! He is still in a sleeping bag for the wiggliness too.

Johnny said his first Dutch word the other day!! He brought me one of his Dutch books and said "kijk" which means "look". [proud mummy]

stinkymalinki · 30/07/2007 13:45

Your shopping trips sound like mine Elf - i go out to just get a few bits for Joey and come back with tons of stuff, all of which seems absolutely necessary at the time but most of it usually stays in the packaging However, i have just sold some of our excess stuff on eBay , so i have been using the cash for Joey's bedroom redecoration ready for when he goes from cot to bed in September. He's having a Thomas the tank engine themed room (his choice!), and i'm getting almost as excited by the idea as Joey

Mawbroon - Joey's been using a really flat pillow since his last cold (sometime mid-spring). I think they can be used from 12 months onwards. mind you, i still find him rotated 180 degrees and sleeping on top of his teddies some mornings! SM x

DontlookatmeImshy · 30/07/2007 14:44

Aw bless at the lo's fetching the wipes. Ds just tugs at his nappy and gives me a meaningful stare.

Glad to hear Evie is starting to eat more again. Hope Johnny gets through his teething soon.

We are going to have to get ds into a proper bed asap. He climbed out of his cot last night. He's still in with me at the moment and I was woken up by lots of puffing and grunting and turned over in bed to see what was going on just in time to see him disappearing headfirst over the side He seemed more shocked than hurt and soon stopped crying after a big cuddle. I think I was more upset than him!.

ELF1981 · 30/07/2007 20:27

MB - DH was moaning about the spending, he said "couldnt you have got it cheaper at Argos"!! Not sure if I could have done as she's got a cot bed rather than bed. The pillow was expensive tbh, it was £12.99 but its a hypoallergenic type one (well, more than I spend on pillows anyway!!!)

Stinky - oooh, Thomas themed room. I daren't ask Evelyn, I know it would be either FiFi or Bob the Builder!! I think we are going to re-paint the room pink but at the moment it is cream/beige and I think it might be easier to "sell" that way iyswim

DLAMIS - Evelyn "fell" out her cotbed a while ago, she soon settled down but I was traumatised!

mawbroon · 31/07/2007 09:11

DH modified our cotbed a while ago as it was looking like Johnny would possibly climb out. He lowered the supports and now the mattress is at the bottom of the sides IYSWIM and Johnny's chin is about level with the top when he stands up in bed. If he manages to get out of it in the near future then I will send him for Olympic training
Our weather has been lovely so Johnny has enjoyed running in and out and in and out and in and out from the garden. I can feel myself wanting to say "you're either in or you're out" but have so far resisted the urge. It's such an annoying parent thing to say He also stands peering through the fence longingly as if he never gets out. This is the boy who goes out at least twice every single day as well as having cousins and pals over to visit....

DontlookatmeImshy · 31/07/2007 14:22

lol mb I found myself saying something similar to ds in the park this morning, "Either get on or stay off" when he couldn't make his mind up whether to go on the roundabout or not.

Just found out another girl in our RL post natal group is 14 weeks pg. I nearly had to clamp my mouth shut to stop saying stuff that would've given me away too. Roll on 12 weeks.

Grrr and I've noticed someone else on MN has nicked my dontlookatme name idea.

stinkymalinki · 31/07/2007 21:05

Horrible, horrible day - whilst I was at the cinema seeing Harry Potter with my Mum (my first 'proper' afternoon away from Joey for ages), DH was sat in A&E with him, as Joey had an accident in his pushchair (from what i can ascertain, DH had left Joey in the chair whilst he was turning around to pick up some cardboard off the drive to put in the car, the pushchair brakes apparantly failed and Joey went hurtling off down the drive and ended up face-down on some concrete before DH could get to him). He's got a massive egg-shaped lump on his forehead, with a big cut in the centre (a bit like Harry Potter's now i think of it!) that the A&E staff had to glue in lieu of stitches. Even worse was the fact that DH decided not to ring me on my mobile to let me know, as he didn't want to 'ruin your afternoon', and was even trying to sneak him up to bed before i got in and saw. I am so, so, incredibly upset with him, and i've made my feelings clear that if anything like that happens again, i want to know about it ASAP. I'm his mother, it's my call. Still in shock about the whole thing now, and i've been home nearly an hour.

Thankfully Joey seems ok in himself, and he's gone to bed ok once i gave him a big cuddle (and had a little cry!) but i still feel like a terrible mother for not being there for him (albeit unknowingly!)

mawbroon · 01/08/2007 08:58

Oh stinky, how awful. I'm sure Joey will be fine, but it must have been awful for you. I don't suppose your DH said "it was entirely my fault and I'm sorry you are so upset". Bet he didn't, they never bloody do!! How are you feeling about it all today?

Johnny was hilarious this morning. he was playing on his wee trike this morning when he stood up to do a poop. Then he wouldn't sit back down on the trike, preferring to run around with the trike between his legs. I don't suppose I would want to sit in poop either!

ELF1981 · 01/08/2007 12:53

Aw Stinky, that's not good

How are you today?

stinkymalinki · 01/08/2007 13:26

Well i've calmed down a bit, and Joey's large bump has mostly gone down. However, it makes the cut show much clearer, and its really deep - the type that will definitely leave a noticable scar

Still, he might find it useful in attracting the ladies when he's older, with tales of his heroism and showing off his 'battle scar'

Hey ho - i'd prided myself on the fact that he'd never been to A&E yet. Still, i suppose he managed 22 months without a visit, which seems a rare thing these days!

mawbroon · 01/08/2007 13:49

Stinky, I've never tried it myself, but I have heard people rave about Bio-oil for scars. Once he's healed, it certainly wouldn't do any harm and you never know, it might help a wee bit.

I am banging my head with frustration trying to sort out admin stuff from our house move. Our gas supplier insists that we are hundreds of pounds in credit (which we're not) and I am getting passed from one call centre person to another and I can feel my blood boiling. This is as well as the bank who are sending statements to random numbers in my street and also to my old address despite me phoning them three times
