DontlookatmeImshy - happy birthday to your DS!

I know I'm a bit late in replying but re eating: (taken from Pampers email)

"TOO BUSY TO EAT Toddlers are notoriously fussy eaters. Eating is simply not on the fun agenda of the average one-year-old. You may be surprised that your up-to-now good eater suddenly loses interest in food, will not sit still long enough to take in more than two mouthfuls, and seems to be consuming only a fraction of his previous daily intake. Don't worry. This is normal toddler behaviour. The drive to master the arts of walking and talking is all-consuming right now, and your little one simply doesn't want to give up any of his precious time for the boring task of eating. His growth rate is slowing down, and with it his appetite, and although he uses up a great deal of energy by being so active, his body can make use of the extra fat stored over the past year to top up its fuel tank! Try to get him to sit down for his regular meals, even if it's only for a few mouthfuls, to help him learn that mealtimes are for eating. But in between, let him snack often with small amounts of healthy foods. Make each mouthful count by ensuring that you stick to nutritious choices"

Thanks Elf - that is Joey to a 'T'! We're having sleep issues again at the moment too, i suspect for similar reasons, so i tried dropping his second nap and shortening his first today so he only had about 40 mins in total all day. It seems to have worked - it only took 10 minutes to get him to bed tonight, but i'm so paranoid of disturbing him when i go up to bed (we have seriously squeaky floorboards!), i'm actually contemplating a night on the sofa (NB. DP is on nights!!)

Happy Birthday DLAMIS's LO Hope you had a great day!

Heart in mouth moment earlier, but very funny - DP and i were talking whilst Joey was playing out in the passageway. i called him to come and finish his biscuit and heard a little muffled 'mamma'. I said to DP "why did that sound like he's upstairs?" - DP went to look and said back "that's because he is!" He'd only left the stairgate open and Joey had 'mountaineered' his way upstairs and was sat on the landing with the cheekiest grin! I didn't have the heart to tell him off (tho DP got a mouthful!)

Hello, not been around for a while but am now back on MN researching 'nursing strikes'. Alice has suddenly stopped breastfeeding out of the blue, from 3 feeds a day until Monday, 1 on Tuesday morning and none since. She's not well at the moment, had a high temperature at the beginning of the week and now has an amazing rash all over her front and back. She's still taking juice and milk from a cup and eating small amounts of solids though, so I'm not sure why she's decided not to feed. Apparently this is a nursing strike rather than self-weaning, which is more gradual. Anyone else's LO done this?

Elf1981 · 06/10/2006 06:34

It's Evelyn's birthday today, woohoo!!

Elf1981 · 06/10/2006 06:35

ponto - Evelyn had a nursing strike a while ago, she refused to take the breast at all. But she would take a bit of food and expressed milk. She stopped being so fussy after a couple of days and all of a sudden wanted to breast again.
What has your GP/HV said?

mawbroon · 06/10/2006 08:33

Happy birthday Evie.
Ponto, I saw your other post but I'm afraid I have no experience of it. We seem to be having quite the opposite at the moment with Johnny wanting more rather than less feeds. I am still feeding him morning, lunch and bedtime as well as another 2 or 3 short ones through the day. I'm thinking it "should" be less, but as there are no rules, it is difficult to know!!
I can't believe all these birthdays! It reminds me of sitting at the pc last year with huge bump and all the babies arriving. I don't know where time has gone.

Yokefleet · 06/10/2006 09:53

Happy Birthday Evie, have a lovely day xxx

Sorry Ponto I can't be any help either

ponto · 08/10/2006 22:09

Alice is still not bfing but I'm getting used to the idea now. She wants lots of cuddles though which is lovely, though she has started waking up in the night again and will only fall asleep on my chest - like going back to having a newborn! I'm bracing myself to do controlled crying again as it worked so well before, but with all the bfing trauma recently don't want to upset her.

notsonervousmum · 09/10/2006 10:49

Hi All, hope everyone's ok, and i hope Evie had a lovely birthday, Elf

Interestingly, Joey will only go to sleep on my chest at the mo, and i stopped BF 3 months ago! Maybe it's the change in the weather?!?

Off to Norfork for a few days, will catch up properly when we get back. Take care, NSNM x

mawbroon · 10/10/2006 08:28

Are you expressing to keep your supply up Ponto or are you just taking it as it comes? I have decided to let Johnny self wean but I know that I would be really upset if he were to do it now because I enjoy bf so much.
Not much doing here. Johnny has a bit of a cold. He sounded like a chainsaw last night when he was trying to feed, but was ok until 5am when he decided that he was going to create merry hell until mummy took him into bed. I hope it doesn't last long.
The childminding is going ok with the kids, but the mother's job means she is often late (like 8pm instead of 6.30pm) for pick up which makes things very difficult for me. This is the last week of a 4 week trial period so it's decision time for me and I don't know what to do.

Rodeo · 10/10/2006 09:16

Just popping over from the November thread to say Happy 1st Birthday to the babies whose birthdays it is today!
It's my dd's first birthday today too and I crashed your thread last year as she was 4 weeks early.
Anyway hope they (and their mummies) have lovely days!

ponto · 10/10/2006 15:33

Mawbroon - have decided not to express as I wasn't getting much milk and I think Alice has probably given up bf for good. Have put all my nursing bras away now and am enjoying being back in normal underwear. It will look much better when I've lost the final stone of baby weight though - am on weightwatchers diet at the mo.

Sympathies on having to take baby into bed with you - last night I ended up in the cot myself with her! I didn't want to take her into my room as dd1 was sleeping there while my mum is staying.

Jockey · 10/10/2006 19:56

Hope everyone is well & Evie enjoyed her birthday. We've got ours this Friday.

Hi Rodeo - I remember your baby coming early last year and feeling a bit ! Just wanting to get the whole thing over. Hope everything is going ok for you.

Baby is teething at the moment and gnawing on anything she can get hold of, including my boobs! She's sleeping in my bed - too exhausted to sort it out right now.

Mawbroon, that sounds a difficult situation with the mother who is late - I can understand that causing you problems. I was thinking of childminding myself so am really interested to hear how you're finding it. Hope you manage to sort things out.

Will try and post again soon!

mawbroon · 11/10/2006 07:59

Another difficult night here. JOhnny woke at 2am, 4am, 4.15am and then I took him into bed. He was sniffling away and his cot was soaking, presumably a mixture of snot and tears (yuk). I'm sure he'll be over it soon though.
Jockey, the childminding is fine as far as looking after the kids goes. Johnny is loving the company and crawls around after the bigger kids squealing with excitement. I don't feel that his care is being compromised at all. My top tip would be to keep on top of the paperwork every night and then weekly and monthly too, otherwise I could see it becoming a nightmare. I am an admin geek though and have a filing cabinet with a folder for each child and a good system on the pc for the word documents, photos etc.
Ponto - normal underwear - what's that? LOL it's been so long. In fact, almost as long as since I last had a drink.

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 11/10/2006 08:02

awww just seen this thread!

Happy belated birthday to all you babies!

Becky will be 1 in exactly 2 weeks - scary stuff! She is still my baby!!!

Yokefleet · 11/10/2006 08:40

Teething here too, number 11 & 12 on their way. They are either side of the front top 4, are these the ones that are meant to be really difficult to come through? It hasn't really affected the night sleeping although he is waking about an hour earlier but his he been very grisly for the last few day times.
I weighed Thomas on our bathroom scales today and our little baby who weighed 7lb 15oz at birth is now a 25lb toddler!
Has anyone had a HV appointment made yet? I am sure she said we would have a visit at 12 months but haven't heard anything?
Anyway have a lovely day

Hannah

hi yoke!

Lucky you on having so many teeth - little becky is still my "one tooth wonder"! She has had the one tooth for 3 months now and still no more!

She is a little chunky monkey too - was 20lbs exactly at 6.5 months so dread to think what she is now!

With regards to development checks - here we have them at 6-9 months and then a 2 yr check. THe only thing that happens in between is the MMR at 13 months +

Yokefleet · 11/10/2006 10:13

j&rm Thanks for that. It is good to see you back on the board too.

OP posts:
Elf1981 · 11/10/2006 13:16

we had a review in Aug. After that it's just the MMR and new jabs I'm waiting for, but I was told they'd contact me for that.

Evelyn got a library card last week, how cool is that?!!

notsonervousmum · 13/10/2006 21:08

Hi All, back from Norfolk. Twas lovely, but i feel like I need a holiday on my own to recover from it!

Re MMR jabs - Joey's got his a week on Tuesday! I think they're going to give him that new jab at the same time, the one for the pneumococcal virus. NSNM x

DontlookatmeImscary · 13/10/2006 22:52

Big hugs and sympathy to all suffering with teething at the moment. Ds seems to be between teeth at the moment and he's like a different child, so much happier.

Poor little mites

mawbroon · 15/10/2006 22:10

Teething going on here DLAMIS. Big bulging back teeth, coupled with a cold which is resulting in waking every two hours through the night.

Elf1981 · 16/10/2006 02:04

argh
snotty noses a go go here. bless her.
Hope all teething/poorly babies get better soon and mummies get a bit more sleep!
