Happy Birthday to Joey!

Aww poor Joey, hope you have all recovered from the shock. I'd have been cross with dh for not letting me know too.

Mb - have you moved to a new house. We had similar trouble with the banks/other financial organisations sending stuff to the wrong no.s because it was a new estate and for a while the only house no. registed under our postcode was no. 7, so when the organisations put in the postcode their automated systems just gave the no.7 as an option and the morons inputing it didn't bother to check our letters properly or just thought there was only a no.7 so it must be that, cos obviously we don't know what no. we live at [mad]. Took ages to sort them out. Fortunatley our postman/people at no7 must've been used to it cos afaik we did get everything we should have. Very frustrating though.

Apart from a couple of attempts the day after we have had no more escapes from the cot. Phew.

And after resisting for a few days I have finally given in and got my maternity jeans on. Oh the relief - I can breath again. We are telling our parents at the weekend. If we don't tell people soon they're going to guess anyway!!!

mawbroon · 01/08/2007 22:49

Nope not a new house, it's been here for over thirty years DLAMIS. They are just bloody useless. The gas company are still insisting that they owe us £500. I checked that the calls were being recorded and said ok send me the money, but I believe it is incorrect. So, they can send it and whistle for it when they want it back. Did you buy new maternity gear or did you stash it away after you had ds?

Poor Johnny has a bit of a tummy bug I think. Really soft very pale yellow poops (sorry if tmi) and rank smelling farts. I don't know if it's the breastfeeding that's stopping it becoming full blown diarrhoea but thank goodness it's not!

ELF1981 · 02/08/2007 19:48

MB our house has been here for 20 years, but up until 2 years ago we didn't have a road sign, nor were we on the "x road leading to y" list. We weren't on any of the address systems so all our stuff went to number 1 x road rather than number 1 y road, x road if you see what I mean!!

Was a nightmare getting bills and items delivered. Nightmare!!!

Evelyn has a new word... she says "Wimrose!!!" every time she sees her little Primrose teddy (from FiFi) lol.

stinkymalinki · 02/08/2007 20:39

Aw how cute Elf. Joey can't quite manage Primrose yet, but he gets very excited when Bumble comes on screen and shouts 'Bee!' at the top of his little voice.

I've been painting Fifi all afternoon - i'm doing a massive wall mural on a sheet of MDF so that when Joey outgrows it, it can just be removed or replaced, rather than having to paint over a whole wall. Its got Fifi, Thomas the tank engine, Pocoyo, Peppa and George Pig, and Postman Pat on (all Joey's current favourites!), and i'm hoping to have it done ready for his birthday. He immediately recognised all the characters, so i must have done a fairly good representation

ponto · 02/08/2007 21:53

Hi all, not been on the thread for a while, busy with work and getting ready to move house. Nice to hear what all the other babies are doing - though they're not really babies now are they?

Alice has had a sudden leap forward in talking - she has been using single words for a few months but in the last week she's suddenly learnt how to put 2 or 3 words together and now there's no stopping her - I get a running commentary on everything! She's not content to just tell me things- every phrase has to be specifically acknowledged "Yes, Alice, it's raining, yes, the ground's wet, yes, the dolly's asleep, yes, the dog's gone". The novelty is wearing off rapidly, especially as I know if she's anything like her big sister she will never be quiet again now she's found her voice!

We're off in our campervan for the weekend tomorrow, we've only had one night in it with both children before and then they only slept 11pm-6.30 am. I predict tired and grumpy children (and parents!) by Sunday night!

Elf - is Evie back to normal now after her hunger strike?

ELF1981 · 03/08/2007 08:20

wow stinky, you should rent those talents out!!! Evelyn gets so excited at FiFi, we tape it on Sky and she watches it while I'm getting dinner ready rather than getting all the stuff out the cupboard.

ponto - Evie is back to normal following the hunger strike, eating like there is no tomorrow, bless her. Hope you have a good time in the campervan

mawbroon · 03/08/2007 16:12

Nice to hear from you again Ponto. You're brave going away in a camper van with two kids!!
And Elf, I'm glad that Evies hunger strike is over.
of your talent stinky. I was drawing things for johnny one time, and a couple of them were so bad that he had no idea what they were supposed to be!!
I must be the most lentil weavery person on this thread. Johnny doesn't get to watch tv at all and we only watch it when he's in bed. He would have no idea who any of these characters are, and in fact, neither would I!!!
DLAMIS, how many weeks are you now? It seems to go by much quicker when it's someone else's pregnancy.

ELF1981 · 07/08/2007 08:38

MB - you lentil weaver
There is an interesting threat on TV at the moment.
Evelyn watches FiFi when I'm cooking but although the TV is on in the evening, if we're in the living room with her, she's playing and not watching, though I have noticed that she is listening to the music as on certain adverts she'll stop adn dance (Sheila's Wheels being her fave!)

Yokefleet · 07/08/2007 09:51

Morning all. Hope you are all well. I aren't getting much time on here as I Thomas is into everything at the moment and isn't really talking anymore yet, just screaches at everything which is rather draining.
Have you got any plans for our little ones birthdays yet?

OP posts:
mawbroon · 07/08/2007 10:56

Ha, yes i have just stuck my oar in on the tv thread. It's the kind of thread that I normally stay away from tbh because they often descend into a riot but I must be feeling brave or foolish today, not sure which....

I was at the nurse today for a routine appointment and saw a poster up looking for volunteers for breastfeeding buddies, so I am going to call and offer my services. I met my new health visitor and she mentors the breastfeeding buddies, so i am gathering that she is a supportive HV rather than the boxes of frogs that some MNetters encounter.

ELF1981 · 07/08/2007 12:47

MB I have stuck my oar in too, though hope you dont think I was having a go at you!!

YF - no plans yet on the birthday, was going to do a get to gether at my parents but with dads health at the moment I am not too sure. Also, DH's step mums sister is having her 50th that day and we have been invited, we're not going, but even if we did a tea, all Dh's side of the family would be at that party instead. I hope Thomas stops screetching soon, it gets very draining

mawbroon · 07/08/2007 13:45

Crikey, birthday plans already??? I haven't even given it a thought it seems such a long way off....

I called the number about the bestfeeding buddies and they will call back when they have six volunteers and they will start training us. Quite exciting really

Yokefleet · 08/08/2007 16:49

Sorry thinking about birthdays as it is my nieces mid-september so we plan to go up to Yorkshire for an extended family tea party for both their birthdays just after that!!
mb the buddies sounds like a great idea, I wish there had been something like that here when I was trying to bf Thomas x

What do you guys think of this?

It all came about when i showed a friend my cartoon mural for Joey's wall. Although selling the murals commerically isn't really possible (all the copyright laws!), they suggested i used my talents for something that could be marketed, so this is what i've come up with as a start! It feels very strange to be doing something so 'arty' again - it got suppressed by my ex-H then motherhood got in the way! Joey's enjoying being able to paint too, although nowhere near my work!!!

mawbroon · 09/08/2007 21:15

at your artistic abilities stinky!! I am so untalented in that department!

Elf, I see the tv thread is still rumbling on! And I got accused for the first time ever of being PFB

I have decided to take the ttc a bit more seriously and am going to start charting my temperature. I am having AF but I don't think I'm ovulating. Is that possible? I really am not ready to wean Johnny and he's not ready for it either!

Johnny has developed an obsession for The Very Hungry Caterpillar book. He goes around signing "caterpillar" "hungry" and "butterfly" all day long. We have read it on 4 different occasions today, twice through each time. He was given it as a present and it's the flimsy book along with a colouring book and crayons all in a little case. I can't let him loose with it by himself as he would just rip the pages so I might have to go and buy him the chunky baby version of it so that he can look at it all day long without harassing me to read it to him non stop!!

mawbroon · 09/08/2007 21:24

Oh and when he sees the caterpillar egg on the leaf, he signs "sick" because I have drummed it into him that eggs will make him sick. He brought me an empty meringue tub the other day and went mmmmmm pointing at the picture of the meringues. I told him that he wouldn't be able to eat meringues, they would make him sick. Then the next day, he brought me the same tub and signed "sick". The wee soul, I feel so sorry for him, but I think he understands, so hopefully that will minimise accidental exposures.

ELF1981 · 10/08/2007 13:27

MB - I brought TVHC for Evelyn from Waterstones, the chunky hard one. She lurves it, and gasps every time I tell her that the caterpiller turns into a butterfly.

She loves that book, along with a "Thats not my fairy" and a version of "There was an old lady who swallowed a fly" where the hole in the tummy gets bigger with each turn of the page, showing another animal inside!

ELF1981 · 10/08/2007 13:28

about the "sick" (do they think he will grow out of it?)

Also, forgot to mention - I did [gasp] at the PFB comment!!

mawbroon · 10/08/2007 13:43

Oh I like the sound of the "there was an old lady.." book. I think it's the sticking the fingers in the holes of the book that he likes rather than marvelling at the caterpillars ability to metamorphasise into a beautiful butterfly.

He probably will grow out of the egg thing. Average is around 4-5 but his cousin didn't outgrow until age 8, so I wouldn't be at all surprised if he was the same.

Here's the latest on my complaint about the Ribena

ELF1981 · 10/08/2007 22:48

MB here is the book www.waterstones.com/waterstonesweb/displayProductDetails.do?sku=3817702

ELF1981 · 10/08/2007 22:49

Well done on your Ribena reply btw

mawbroon · 11/08/2007 12:55

Thanks Elf.

I got the chunky Hungry Caterpillar yesterday. Guess what, he brings it to me whinging until I read it to him...... In fairness, he has a bit of a temperature this morning so he's not himself. Normally he just pootles about doing his own thing and doesn't bother me much.

We went to see DH today who was over in another part of the town doing some work and as we walked past all the parked cars, Johnny pointed at DH's and said "daddy". I'd be bloody hard pushed to recognise it!! Must be a boy thing

ELF1981 · 14/08/2007 12:08

Evelyn can pick out my car, she's a nutter!
She can also pick out my dads and shout "pop pop car!"

Its quiet here, is everybody okay?

mawbroon · 14/08/2007 13:08

I told DH about the car thing and he wasn't surprised at all. Apparently DH and Johnny look out the window and DH says "daddy's car", "mummy's car" so now I am not surprised either.

Bloody hungry caterpillar aaaargh. Johnny was eating beans the other night. He normally shovels them in, but on this occasion he had to say "pop" as he ate each bean, I can only assume it's because he thinks the beans look like the caterpillar egg. Lovely

stinkymalinki · 14/08/2007 20:55

Anyone else's LO going through a mega-clingy stage again?

Joey's practically been surgically attached to my hip for the last week, and if i 'dare' to leave a room without him, he throws himself to the floor in floods of tears saying 'Mummy' over and over again till i rescue him! Even DH (usually the favoured parent) won't do, and he thrashes himself around if anyone other than me tries to pick him up. Very wearing, not least because of my poor back

Still, his words are coming on in leaps and bounds, and he's saying several words together now as sort-of sentences but without perfect grammar IYSWIM (eg. 'Thomas bus ball there' meaning 'Thomas and the bus with a hot-air balloon there' [in the book/on TV]).

So much for the summer - we've got manky rain down here now, so poor Joey can't play in the garden for very long. He just sits nose-to-glass at the conservatory window looking very miserable and saying 'out?'. Hope everyone's ok, must go and do some more painting. SM x
