Oops, pressed 'send' too soon! I also meant to say, Well done Evelyn for using her potty SM x

ELF1981 · 19/03/2007 20:59

we're not actively trying to teach her (well, I'm not, I am not sure what DH is doing while I'm not here!!) but she will sit on it when its around. I think I'd rather wait til she can wipe her own bum

mawbroon · 19/03/2007 21:08

Well done on the pottying folks! I have been sitting Johnny on the trainer seat on the toilet, but he's never done anything. BUT the other day, I was on the toilet and he was pointing at the toilet all excitedly then the next thing was that he had filled his nappy, so I am of course reading his mind and assuming that all the pointing meant "mother dear, please place me on the toilet so I may empty my bowel"

He had great fun today with my mindees, however I am seeing the very beginnings of squabbling over toys. Johnny kept moving the toys a little and he had a "that's mine" look on his face. I think "share" is going to become a popular word in this house soon!!

ELF1981 · 19/03/2007 21:25

Share is not in Evelyn's vocab! When other kids are in her "area" she'll pick up whatever they have picked up. But when she goes elsewhere, she'll also pick up what they want.
She's a bossy madam!

mawbroon · 20/03/2007 11:53

Well what a fun morning Johnny has had. We went to drop off DH at the airport. There was all the hussle and bustle in the airport which Johnny loved and then we went to watch the planes. He sits there almost with his mouth open as the planes come by and signs "aeroplane" virtually non stop. He doesn't do the sign quite right, and it looks as though he is waving to the plane as it takes off. It is so funny! He nodded off in the car on the way home and when I went to unbuckle him when we got home, he came to with a jolt and immediately signed aeroplane! He must have been dreaming about them!

ELF1981 · 20/03/2007 12:32

aw bless!!

mawbroon · 20/03/2007 20:28

My wee aeroplane boy is going on a plane for the first time tomorrow. DH was going to Holland this morning to say goodbye to his Grandfather who was at the end. DH made it in time and his Grandfather died shortly after he got there. Johnny and I are flying over to Holland tomorrow and the funeral is on Friday. It is all terribly sad, but he was 90 and all the usual cliches that people come out with were true in his case. You know, had a good life, lived to a good age etc etc. I have been asked to play a couple of tunes on my fiddle at the funeral and I am wondering how on earth I am going to hold it together.

The care commission phoned me this morning to arrange my inspection tomorrow. I hope that the message I left cancelling gets to the right woman. I'm sure she will fail me straight away if she shows up and I'm not here!!

ELF1981 · 20/03/2007 20:59

Sorry to hear about your G-FIL MB

Yokefleet · 21/03/2007 21:31

MB sorry to hear your sad news, hope all goes well on Friday.

ponto · 24/03/2007 23:10

Hope you are ok after the funeral MB.

Anyone else got a climbing toddler? Alice has taken to fetching the step from the bathroom, carrying it to her bedroom and using it to climb up onto the chair, then her changing table and is having a good go at getting up onto the windowsill (no luck yet as she hasn't managed to move the lamp out of the way, though I feel it is only a matter of time - the window is locked and key hidden). I blame dd1 for setting a bad example, she's like a monkey and rarely falls off things, but Alice copies everything she does.

Interesting to hear about your house-selling Elf. We've just accepted an offer on our house so are becoming desperate for somewhere to move to. Saw a lovely house in a nice area today but it's right on the junction of a busy road (which is why we can afford it!) It is a perfect house in every other way though, I'm really torn. think we might have to go back for another look.

Good luck everyone with the hour change tonight!

stinkymalinki · 25/03/2007 13:30

Hope the funeral went ok, mawbroon.

No major climbing here - the nearest is when Joey forgets his little step-stool and tries (v unsuccessfully) to hoik his leg over the side of the sofa to climb up. So funny

Tis DH's 40th birthday today, and i am officially "world's best wife" (his words!) as i gave him a playstation 3 as his surprise present. Must be off...more birthday stuff beckons...take care, SM x

ELF1981 · 25/03/2007 21:22

So tired - both Evelyn and I have colds.
My car has been written off so sorting out the insurance company now. Sigh.
RE the climbing - Gawd, Evelyn's a right little spider woman!

Yokefleet · 26/03/2007 20:25

MB Hope all went well
Ponto We have a climber here too, Thomas can climb onto the printer table, stand on the printer and climb from there onto the desk Hope the clocks changing didn't cause any problems for you.
SM when my dh saw your post he said he'd like you as a wife too
ELF Hope you are both feeling better soon.

Thomas is poorly again, we have had an awful weekend with him, it started on Friday night, we had had a lovely day with him, went to bed as usual but within 10 mins he was screaming the house down so went into him to find that he's been sick, he was covered head to toe. He has been like this all weekend, not eating, hardly drinking and really sleepy all the time finally saw the Dr this afternoon after more then 1.5hr wait sat in the waiting room and he said that Thomas has another throat infection and has percribed Penicillen again plus something to stop him being sick so hopefully they will kick in soon and I will have my happy little boy back. I don't think many people like the "eau de sick" perfume that I seem to have had since Friday
Better go and get the next load of washing on!

Hi all. Thanks for all your kind wishes. Our trip to Holland went well, Johnny did perfect behaviour almost the whole time. On the plane, I had planned to breastfeed him on take off and landing to help his ears but I couldn't prise him away from the window! He also looked out the window for over an hour on the train and he loved seeing all the wind turbines and windmills. I was so pleased to have the hipseat at the airport. I don't know if any of you have been to Schiphol but it is HUGE and I had to walk about a mile before I could collect the buggy from the baggage hall. I was worried about taking my fiddle with me. It has to come in the cabin, but I was worried about only being allowed one piece of hand luggage, so I stuffed as many nappies into the fiddle case as I could and then stuffed more into every pocket!! I had piriton for Johnny's allergy and I had to drink some of it at security.
Anyway, they do things with regard to mourning and funerals quite differently over there. There were eight great grandchildren at the funeral and we had been told to just let them behave as they wanted (within reason of course) so Johnny was crawling about looking at people and looking out the window. He got a bit grumpy, so I breastfed him. DH's grandfather always said "the bar is open" when he saw a baby being fed and he announced to the whole room at a party once whilst pointing at me feeding "that is the best food in the world" so I'm sure he wouldn't have minded!
So, it all went well except I came down with a fever on Friday night and now I have an ulcer or blister or something on my throat which isn't much fun. I have been taking paracetemol and some of Johnny's Nurofen. I asked in the pharmacy in Holland for some Nurofen for children and he offered me suppositories . Turns out it's really common over there for kids to use them. DH and I were ROFL at the thought of Johnny agreeing to one of those!!

Anyway, sorry typing one handed, Johnny snoozing/feeding in other and haven't previewed!

mawbroon · 29/03/2007 11:13

Heeelllooooo..... anybody there? Did you all run away and start a new thread when I was gone??

stinkymalinki · 29/03/2007 13:19

Hi Mawbroon, as far as i'm aware, there's no new thread - we've all just been really quiet recently!

Cr*p morning - took Joey to the toddler group, and he played up the whole time we were there, screeching at the top of his lungs, crying, snatching toys from the other children, and pushing! I told him off on 2 seperate occasions, and warned him that if he carried on, i would take him home. Well, unsurprisingly he did it again, so i had to carry out my threat and remove him (i don't want to be seen as backing down, and undermining my own authority - he was given a full explanation as to why his behaviour was unacceptable, and fair warning of the consequences of doing it again!). Some of the other mums were giving me evils as i bundled him out of the door, and i just got a text from my friend that was also there asking if i was ok as some of the other mums felt i was a bit distressed! FFS! They'd have been more distresssed if Joey had walloped one of their little darlings! To be fair, Joey is normally such a placid little boy, and this morning was very out of character for him, but i will not tolerate bad behaviour. Just wish i didn't feel like such a Bad Mummy now. Rant over...theres always next week.... SM x

stinkymalinki · 29/03/2007 13:22

Mawbroon - i hope your throat is feeling better, and glad to hear your trip went ok x

mawbroon · 30/03/2007 08:56

Hi Stinky! Oh dear, sounds like the terrible twos are starting for you. My sister said the other day "oh that's my least favourite age - one and a half to two and a half". Gee thanks, how to really make me feel confident about what's to come eh? Johnny is just starting to hold on to toys rather tightly when there are other kids about. I have seen him turn away too, but there haven't been any temper tantrums about it just quite yet, but it won't be long. Also when we got back from Holland, he rushed in and systematically played with every single toy. I think he was making sure that they were all still his.

YF - I hope that Thomas is better now. It's so crap when they are ill, isn't it.

Elf - I hope both you and Evelyn are better now and that your insurance wasn't too much of a headache. My one and only insurance claim took forever to sort and they just didn't seem to have any sense of urgency about it at all.

No climbing going on here just yet. Johnny is really not that fussed about walking. He can now walk pushin his walker, but of course he is faster crawling and can also crawl and carry things with him, so I don't think he's in any hurry to walk.

My Care Commission inspection went ok last week. I was expecting that they would be looking in cupboards etc so I had a cleaning frenzy, but all she did was talk to me!! I think I should get an OK report out of it.

Yokefleet · 30/03/2007 10:13

Hello all! Thomas is on the mend, still clingy but the sickness has stopped thankfully. I started with diarrhoea last night and feel crap but luckily dh is on holiday from today for a week so is looking after me
mb Glad to hear your care commision inspection went well.
sm I think you did the right thing!

mawbroon · 30/03/2007 13:01

I hope your DH is super nice and kind to you YF as it's quite likely that you will be looking after him next week when he gets your bug!!

ponto · 30/03/2007 23:16

SM - hope today went better for you.
Both my girls have come down with chicken pox today - dd1's best friend had it recently so I've been looking out for it. The local Asda has run out of calamine lotion, apparently there's an epidemic at the moment. Managed to get hold of some from another chemist, so I can look forward to a week of being confined to the house, dabbing at itchy spots. Wish me luck!

DontlookatmeImshy · 31/03/2007 21:16

Oh no! What a poorly lot we all are. Dh and I have just recovered from our second lot of sickness and diarrhea. Fortunately ds escaped it this time, but dh and I got it at the same time so we couldn't really helpeach other out. I ended uptaking ds to a soft play place Cos I knew I could collapse on a big soft seat while he entertained himself in the ballpit for 2 hours.

He has just discovered 'throwing'. Everythingis being thrown(including teh water out of teh bath aarrgghh.Sofar we are ignoring most of it unless it dangerous etc,and hope the phase passes sooner rather than later.

He was so funny at toddler group this week. Dh has his hair shaved with a no.2 thingy on the shaver and ds loves rubbing his hand on it. There was a little boy at toddler group with a similar cut and ds kept putting his hand on this boys head(probably cos it was like daddy's hair) Eventually this littleboy got a bit fed up and got up to walk off. Well ds started following him so the little boy started running. Ds starting laughing and running after him with his hand stretched out. Half way across the room this little boy stopped, turned round to check he was safe, saw ds still coming towards him and legged it out of the room looking terrified with ds still chasing him with his armout. I should probably have stopped ds sooner but I was toobusy laughing.

ELF1981 · 01/04/2007 21:25

Sorry been quiet, been car hunting this week as I really haven't coped well without mine! Dad has lent me to money til the insurance company pay out (they're in no rush, so it looks like nothing changes MB!) Plus its our busiest time at work the next coming weeks (Year End) so its going to be manic!!

Evelyn has been so naughty recently! The CM has told me that this past week she has kept climbing onto the TV unit despite being told not to. On Friday CM eventually put her in the pushchair and she went to sleep. When I went to pick her up on Friday, she had a scratch on her cheek and one of the girls came to apologise to me for scratching her. this girl is probably about three, and she and Evelyn do fight a bit. On Friday the poor CM had to keep separating them. In the car their car seats had been together and Evelyn had kept leaning over pulling this girls hair. So the CM separated their chairs, but it continued in the house and ended with the scratch. Then when I was there, Evelyn was sat near her changing bag, this girl went near the bag, and so Evelyn stood up and pushed her over! Cue lots of tears from this girl, me saying sorry, another of the girls telling me that Evelyn had pushed her over earlier in the day, me apologising some more... I was exhausted!! (In fairness, although it was Evelyn doing all the fighting on Friday, its usually the other way around!)
Anyway, we were going to walk to the bus stop and catch the bus home, but she was a little madam!! At one point I ended up dragging her across the road (serves me right for not attempting the pram in rush hour) and in the end I lost my rag, took her to the local park so she was 'contained' and called DH to pick us up. She'd bit me and scratched me just because she did not want me to hold her.
So, I believe the terrible "one and a half to two and a half" have started!!
Today she has been as good as gold, and yesterday she was good too, aside from a twenty minute screaming fit in the afternoon as she was tired, so hopefully she'll be good tomorrow at the CMs!

Anyhoo, took her to have her feet measured, she's now a 5E.

stinkymalinki · 01/04/2007 22:31

Hi Elf, i'm kind of relieved its not just Joey that's suddenly turned into a nightmare! He's actually behaved himself since our fateful trip to toddler group. Just bracing myself for the next time now....

Hope everyone's had a nice weekend? Unfortunately i'm on nights at work, so DH has been primary parent for a change! SM x

mawbroon · 02/04/2007 12:29

I'm bracing myself for all this behaviour to come..... Johnny is so chilled out though that I really can't imagine it, but I know it will start soon enough. He does tantrum a teeny tiny bit, but they are such pathetic tantrums that I just have to smile really. He just whines a bit and lies on the floor. Too lazy to scream and thrash I think!! I am wondering if he will start when he gets walking because he will be able to reach so many things and will probably hear "no" a bit more often. But walking doesn't seem to be on the cards any time soon. He is still on rolled over, out-turned feet in that bum sticking out position!!

Hope everyone who was feeling ill is recovered. We had a nice day yesterday for FILs birthday. We all went out for a meal, but the service was bit rubbish and we had to wait an hour for our food. But we didn't let that spoil our fun. We are going away on Thursday on our holidays to England. We are visiting friends near Worcester and then going to visit my sister and uncle in Epsom. Probably my last time in England before the smoking ban comes in there too, so we will just avoid the pubs I think. You guys are going to love it when the ban starts!

Johnny and my mindee are both asleep {grin] so I must get on with the chores.

Hope everyone is well and getting some of this nice weather that we have here.
