Hooray!! After a week of no phone/internet, we are finally back online. BT then proceeded to tell me 4 times that my phone was working. Once on my 1571, then a phone call to my land line, then a text to my mobile and then a voicetext to my landline. FFS I knew it was working before any of these because I saw the three vans in the street and three blokes peering in a hole scratching their heads and so I went to try the phone myself. Can you tell that I don't have a lot of patience for this kind of stuff??

Johnny is having a miserable time with a nasty cough and cold just now. He was pointing at the medicine bottle this morning "asking" for some. I also exposed him to egg by mistake yesterday which I am annoyed about. I was eating a sandwich with coleslaw in it. I dropped a couple of pieces on my plate so I just picked them up and ate them with my fingers. Then Johnny started chucking his lunch on the floor so I took his arm to stop him doing it. Within a few moments, the part of his arm that I had touched came up in hives. I didn't give him any antihistimine because I wanted to see how bad it was going to get, and it cleared itself within half an hour or so, but it leaves my imaginiation running riot about what would happen to him if he actually ate some egg. What I also figure is that he is more likely to eat egg by mistake when we are out and about and if he reacts by puking then it could be in the middle of a restaurant or whatever which is not pleasant for anyone concerned.
Hope everyone is doing fine and not getting too stressed by Christmas.

Yokefleet · 20/12/2006 17:40

MB Thanks about the kiddyguard info, will look into it I think. Hope Johnny is feeling better soon.
Dontlookatmei'mshy I know what you mean about your lo not being interested with Christmas, Thomas walks past our tree/lights and its like they have always been there! Yet next door have a tree outside the house and he will stare at those for ages! Hope your lo is feeling better soon too.
nsnm Good to hear that Joey had no bother with the jabs, we still haven't heard anything about them yet.
ponto we bought ds a trike just after his birthday for the same reason (niece got a big girl bike for her 3rd birthday) and he loves being pushed around in it, his feet don't touch the peddles yet but he keeps trying!! well worth the money!
elf Hope Evie is feeling better now too.
Thomas is into everything at the moment so I haven't had much time on here recently. My dad has given his hair another trim and it looks like he's been butchered apparently Thomas moved (shock???!!!???) so he had to make the other side of his head match Nearly ready for christmas now, just gotta buy something to eat! My sister has bought her daughter one of those Leapad things and yesterday she was checking it was all set up ready before she wrapped it up anyway Thomas saw it and played with it for a while, when my sister tried to get it off him to wrap he screamed the house, I couldn't move for laughing!! I don't think my niece will get a look in once Thomas see's her open it!
Anyway If I don't get back online before Christmas I wish you all the best!

Love Hannah & Thomas James xxx

Hello all!

Evelyn still has her cough, but she seems to be getting better. She tends to get a really bad cough when teeth come through (we're on to number 11 now!) which then goes away, but as she's cut soo many teeth in a short space of time, the cough has lingered. We're at the HV tomorrow and no doubt I'll get told off about her weight or something. I'm hoping they'll give her the new jab (not the MMR, she's not well enough) to at least get that one out of the way!

I should get online again before Xmas (probably tomorrow, this mumsnet is like a fix!! but if not, have a merry Christmas everybody!!

ELF1981 · 20/12/2006 19:44

MB - sorry to hear about the egg thing. It is shocking how many things egg can be in. Do the docs think it may be something Johnny will grow out of?

YF - lol at Thomas and the toy. Evelyn has a thing about other peoples books, she runs off with them and cries when they get taken away from her.

DLAMIS - I wish Evelyn was a little less interested in Xmas. Yesterday she attacked the wrapped presents under FIL's tree, and several times a day we have to pick up baubles that she has thrown across the room. She never touched the CM's tree though for some reason, I think it must be because my babubles are shiny and she's a magpie like me!!

NSNM - wow, Joey is a brave lad! I hope that Evelyn takes her jabs in the same manner. The last time she had it, my sister took her in and I could hear her screaming on the other side of the clinic!

Ponto - MB - being thick but what is a Hippychick hip seat?!

mawbroon · 20/12/2006 21:15

OK back on own pc so can do links now!!

YF - Kiddiguard here I have seen them cheaper than this. I got mine from another Mumsnetter and paid £40 including postage as we reckoned that was about the going rate on ebay.

Elf - hippychick seat here which hasn't arrived yet. I hope it comes soon as my back is killing me! I was at the chiropractor the other day and she said my rib had popped out. Don't really know what she meant, but it was as sore as it sounds!! Regarding the allergy, normally children do outgrow this type of allergy, but Johnny's cousin didn't outgrow his until he was 8!! I am going back to the consultant with Johnny in February for testing but I might see if they can do it sooner. He had a very mild reaction last time, but apparently that is how these allergies work. There is little or no reaction on first exposure and then it gets worse. Subsequent exposures can then reduce the chance of the child outgrowing it. I talked to the HV about the MMR (as it contains egg) but she said she would check with the GP and they might do it under supervision because at that point, he had only had a mild reaction. I don't think that hives on contact with a trace of egg is mild so I will need to ask her again. Last thing I want is for him to have anaphylactic shock. I know that sounds over dramatic, but it's not impossible. Oh the joys

DontlookatmeImshy · 21/12/2006 20:47

MB - Well I don't think you're being over-dramatic. We have been warning everyone about ds's reaction to try and ensure he doesn't get given anything by accident. I dread to think how he'd react if 2nd reactions are generally worse.
Our GP has written to the Peadiatrics dept at the hospital re. ds's reaction to egg and having his MMR. We're just waiting for a reply now.

mawbroon · 22/12/2006 01:02

DLAMIS - is there any chance that your ds could have unbeknown to you had egg before with no reaction and that this reaction you experienced was a subsequent? Unless you have been vigilently checking every single packet (I do, but I am a paranoid first time mother) he could very well have had it before and remember it's in the most unlikely things, even some toiletries, cosmetics etc. I was surfing the net for info last night, and came across a list of around 20 differnt names that egg products could be listed as which makes it much more difficult as it would be terribly difficult to memorise them all.
I have a sinking feeling that we should be joining the allergy threads.

DontlookatmeImshy · 23/12/2006 23:54

Thats what I've been wondering, although i have been abit obsessive about what we've let himhave. Dh and I both eat alotof eggs though so it's possible he's inadvertently had contact. I don't know if bf'ing has any effect either.
We'll just have to be supervigilant from now on.I know some of our IL's thought we were being a bit anal about what we fed him ,looks like we were probably right to be.

DontlookatmeImshy · 23/12/2006 23:56

On alighter note.................

Have a lovely Christmas everyone

ELF1981 · 24/12/2006 16:25

Wishing everybody a wonderful Christmas!
I am at my mums now and seen the pile of presents that she has - I may still be opening them on Boxing Day for her

Have a good one everybody!

mawbroon · 27/12/2006 09:53

Hello everyone. We survived Christmas! We went to my parents for 22nd to 24th (two hours drive away) and then to the inlaws for 25th/26th. We pretty much managed to stick to Johnny's routine and he was great the whole time. For the first time ever, we tried driving at bedtime and then lifting him into bed when we arrived. It worked brilliantly and there wasn't a peep out of Johnny any of the times that we did it.
His favourite present seems to be a set of little books in the shape of vehicles with plastic wheels on them. Anyone elses LO obsessed with wheels, lights, switches and levers? In particular, any girls or is this a boy thing?
DH bought me an MP3 player, but unfortunately I have to take it back today because it's not working and I also have to go to the dentist to see about my filling that fell out whilst eating toffee....
Hope you all had a great Christmas. Now I am just waiting for my favourite bit which is New Year.

ELF1981 · 27/12/2006 12:26

it took ages to open Evelyn's pressies, the family really did go overboard!!
Evelyn had several faves, which was so funny as she played with one until we opened another 'fave' which got all her attention until we opened another iyswim
They were:
a ball thingy (not solid, made into a ball by curved plastic) that lights up and sings and has smaller balls on the curved plastic you can play with, which the childminder brought her. That held her attention until we unwrapped...

a fisher price elephant that you put the cubes into and makes sounds (kind of like the roll arounds but square ones) from my step bro. She play with this until we opened...

a xylophone from MIL, which she quite happily banged on until she called "mummy!" and showed me the broken stick so I had to take that off her, but she was easily distracted by...

Noddy skittles, which she gasped at, pulled them from the bag and hit me with them (thanks FIL!) which lasted until we opened the talking FiFi doll (also FIL), and this got all her cuddles until we opened...

The fisher price piano. Which she screamed with delight at, and sat all afternoon pressing the keys in a gentle fashion (not banging) which was so sweet, and now my mum wants to pay for her to have piano lessons!

All in all she was Very spoilt, which I'm a bit hmmm about as I really didn't want her spoiling, but it was fun.

MB - ouch on the filling!! As for Evelyn, tbh it isn't switches that gets her going usually, but she LOVES books. She'll sit for hours with her books (or my magazines / argos catalogue / chinese food menus etc!). Tis rather sweet.

notsonervousmum · 27/12/2006 21:31

MB - Joey is obsessed with switches too! He would spend all day pushing the buttons and turning the dials on all my kitchen appliances, given half a chance To try and combat this, DH bought him a toy washing machine, a toy microwave, and toy toaster as part of his christmas presents, which he loved, and spent all day playing with on christmas day (leaving the pirate ship, truck, toy work bench, and generally anything 'manly' untouched!!)

notsonervousmum · 27/12/2006 21:35

forgot to say before prematurely posting , that christmas was lovely. Unfortunately Joey now appears to be suffering from his MMR (i was warned that he'd probably get a mild case of the measles and/or mumps 10 days post jab), and has been a grumpy-grizzle all day, poor thing. He's got a nasty sore throat too, so eating solids has all but gone by the wayside. Oh, and DP goes back to work tomorrow, until post New Year!

Jockey · 31/12/2006 08:49

Hi, hope everyone had a good Christmas. Sorry not posted for ages - Sophie is such a handful these days and seems to be at the accident prone stage. She also has her own cooker and washing machine in the kitchen now so she can play with the buttons & dials (inherited from big sis). She's started throwing tantrums when I'm on the computer as she wants to sit on my knee and bash the keyboard to bits! I'm dreading the terrible twos.

Happy New Year! I'm hoping for more Mumsnet time in 2007 .

ELF1981 · 31/12/2006 18:10

Happy New Year everybody! Hope you all have a good evening
Elf xxxx

notsonervousmum · 01/01/2007 13:32

Happy New Year 2007! I wish everyone a brilliant year Take care, NSNM x

Yokefleet · 01/01/2007 18:05

Happy New Year to everyone! Hope you all had a good Xmas. Thomas was ill from the 23rd for a week, so we had a lot of bad nights up with him etc so we don't feel like we have had much of a break really! dh is back to work tomorrow looking more tired then when he started his holiday Anyway Thomas is nearly back to normal (still off his food/milk a bit) although he has started with the head banging again which I find really hard to cope with but hopefully it will were off again like last time after a couple of weeks.
Anyway had better go and get dh's pack up sorted before I forget as I don't fancy a mad rush round to do it at 6am before talking him to catch his train

Best Wishes for 2007

Hannah & Thomas

Happy New Year to you all. We had a nice time over the festive season. On Hogmany we went to my brother's house for a party. Johnny was all out of his routine and kept waking up every hour or so through the night. I think it was the noise we were making with the karaoke. . He ended up staying up half the night and boy he had a great time!! I was driving so we just went home, and we got to bed at 3am and Johnny was up with the lark at 6.30am.... I stuck rigidly to his routine yesterday and he seems to be back to normal although he woke twice through the night last night.
I love New Year, but I can't wait to get back to normal....

Best wishes to everyone for a wonderful 2007.

slalomsuki · 04/01/2007 11:47

Am I the only one with an October 05 baby who has 4 teeth which arrived in August and nothing since then?

mawbroon · 04/01/2007 17:19

Hi slalomsuki. Not sure about the teeth. I do remember one October mum saying that her baby only had one tooth for a long long time, but I can't remember who it was!! My ds has 12 teeth, but hey, he can't stand or walk yet whilst others are running around. What I'm trying to say is that they are all so different!!

Welcome to the october thread btw. Which date was your little one born?

Johnny has diarrhoea again. Four delightful nappies this afternoon... but he seems quite happy and is eating fine, so hopefully it's nothing like the last illness where the whole household was ill for a week!

slalomsuki · 04/01/2007 18:09

Mine shares the same birthday with me, the 11th. Been walking and talking for about 5 months now and is lovely even if she is in to everything including my hand bag at the moment

mawbroon · 06/01/2007 08:15

Well, fun and games in the Broon household just now. Both Johnny and DH have diarrhoea but luckily I seem to have escaped it (for now anyway).
I gave my mindees mother notice the day before the holidays. She just took the piss one time too many with her lateness, so we finish on 19th Jan. I really like the kids and I think that I will miss them. We agreed not to tell them until a few days before rather than have it hanging over them all this time. She tried to persuade me to keep them on, but I stood my ground. I think 4 months of dealing with her has shown me that she is never going to change. So, ho hum, NEXT.... I think I have earned enough to qualify for maternity allowance next time round though.

ELF1981 · 06/01/2007 21:28

are you planning your next one soon then MB
If you are you should come to my work place and drink the water - it seems to make people very fertile!! In my office, we have one woman on maternity leave, and two women pregnant. It seems like every week there is another pg!!

mawbroon · 07/01/2007 01:43

If I won the lottery Elf, it would be top of the list, but I have to be sure to qualify for MA before I start thinking about it. I don't want to be in a position where I HAVE to work until x number of weeks pregnant as I know with Johnny I was absolutely pooped the whole time and that was without a toddler to look after.
Johnny has shifted up a gear I think. He can now do a couple of shapes from the shape sorter and gets soooo excited when I empty them out for him. He loves watching the 'whirlpool' as the bathwater runs away, and he now does a little whirling motion with his finger at the end of the bath to indicate that he wants to see the whirlpool! He was watching DH make a smoothie today in the blender and did the same little hand signal which was very cute indeed.
