re sleep - Evelyn over the weekend will sleep from 10:00 til 11:00 in the morning and 4:00 til 5:00 in the afternoon. Of a weekday she tends to only have one sleep, for at least an hour, because she is all eager to play with the other kids and gets herself distracted!
Re food - great at finger foods and attempting the spoon which tends to go everywhere but she is trying bless her(I do spend a good five mins cleaning up afterwards though!)
She pinched her ear the other day and bruised her ear, and I think she fell or bit herself or something as she now has a split lip I hope that people know I'm not beating her up!

DontlookatmeImshy · 05/12/2006 22:05

We have got our tree 'fenced'off with the help of a babydan playpen and a sofa although ds is suprisingly unimpressed.

Naps - ds has been down to one nap for a while but the transition from 2 to 1 was hard work.He now goes sometimen between 11.00-12.00 in the morning and sleeps for anything from 45mins - 2hrs depending onhow tired he is, if he's ill etc. He will also sneak a short one in in the afternoon if in the car for long enough but it doesn't seem to affect his nighttime.

Feeding-fine with finger foods, If I put a loaded spoon in his hand he can get it into(and around ) his mouth, and has just started putting the spoon in the bowl to try and load it himself but needs a bit mor practice yet.

We tried egg for the first time today and unfortunately had a nasty reaction. Big red blotches round his mouth, later spread to patches allover his body, then about 20 minutes later he threw up quite spectacularly .Poor little fella never throws up. Fortunately he seemed to recover quite quickly once he'd gotrid of it.

Yokefleet · 05/12/2006 23:24

Re Decorations, we have got two trees up, a little fibreoptic one that is in the room we use during the day for Thomas to look at (doesn't seem too bothered at the moment ) and a 6ft one in our lounge that the kids can look at through to glass door (kiddie free zone that room you see gotta have at least one room that can stay looking tidy all day ) What have you bought for your lo's for xmas this year? So far I have bought a little ride on toy, a play tea set and some books
Thanks re: feeding, it was just something I overheard someone saying whilst we were out in town today commenting on Thomas not feeding himself. Left me feeling a bit off really so thanks for the reassurance. My mum reakons that they must have thought Thomas was older then he is as he has always been a proper little lad if you know what I mean (thick hair from birth so he has always looked older)
It was an eventfull walk around town today as a lady tripped and fell over in front of us, hitting the pavement really hard on her forehead, lots of blood she had caught her foot in the shop doorway that we were about to go into and all the staff were bothered about was getting her to fill out their bloody company accident form I was sat on the floor with her (she was 60yo) holding a tissue to her head to stop the bleed, another customer rang for the ambulance from her mobile, the staff didn't even bring a first aid kit out I was soooooo annoyed Anyway I have vented now (sorry guys ) so I had better go. Night night

DLAMIS - sorry to hear about the allergic reaction. Did you give him egg on it's own or was it cooked into something? (IYSWIM) You may remember Johnny had an allergic reaction to egg the day before his birthday, but nothing like as severe as you describe, however he only had a crumb of birthday cake and I am not going to give him egg to see what happens if he takes a load of it. My GP was very good and referred us to the paedeatrics department at the hospital, however to summarise the consultation - "sounds like he's allergic to egg. Don't give him any egg. Come back in three months and we will consider doing tests." In the meantime, I am lugging a bottle of Piriton everywhere we go in case he accidently eats some, because egg is in everything!!
Re eating - we did BLW so Johnny is a dab hand at eating with his hands. I gave him a spoon the other day loaded with yogurt and he knew what to do with it, but he made a real mess. He is actually tidier eating yogurt with his fingers!! He wasn't that fussed about the spoon, so I will leave it a while rather than stress about it.
YF- that is awful about the shop not helping that woman. Is it a big retailer? Name and shame please!
I think Johnny's big back teeth are coming in on the top. His bottom ones came in a while ago and they gave him quite a bit of bother, but it is impossible to see anything and I'm not putting my finger in there for love nor money. He has had a few disturbed nights following a really good spell of sleeping through. LOL sounds ridiculous not wanting to put my finger in his mouth when I quite willingly put my nipple there several times a day! Is anyone else still bfing btw? I am trying to cut down to morning/night but it's just easier to feed him than listen to him whinge if he's grumpy or cry if he has hurt himself. Two or three minutes is all it takes and then he's right as rain again.
Well, must get on. I have my mindees later. It is my birthday today so they have been promised a treat IF they behave well.

Yokefleet · 06/12/2006 11:37

Happy Birthday Mawbroon, I hope you have a lovely day.
The shop is called Card Factory, I don't know if it is a chain or not but I just couldn't believe how bad they were

DontlookatmeImshy · 06/12/2006 13:13

Happy Birthday MB

I remember you posting about Johnny. I've often seen allergy threads popping upand thinking I hope I never have to post on them.

It was scrambled egg, he only had a little bit but as dh said it probably doesn't matter howmuch. He's never had anything with egg in it before like cake etc, we've been trying not to keep him of anything unhealthy etc until he's older and unavoidable.

The doctor suggested trying again in a couple of months but I think I might be leaving it a bit longer than that. She prescribed him some Piriton which now has a permanent place in my handbag. It amazing how many people say "Ooo is he allowed cake" while practically shoving it in his mouth before you've even had chance to say No. i suppose at least we can now stop people trying to feed him crap without them accusing us of being mean and depriving him

YF - at the people in Card Factory.I think we used to have one near us. Bit of a cheapy shop staffed by barely out of school teenagers? if anything like the one near us.

The very best of luck NSNM. I hope you have a fab time.

I was out playing at a gig last night and I had just got in the car to get home when DH phoned to say that Johnny had been crying for 30 mins and could I get home asap. DH couldn't settle him at all and it was another 30 mins before I got home so he had been crying for a whole hour. He stopped the second he saw me and a five minute feed put him back to sleep until 6am. I have no idea what that was about, and it's going to make me less willing to leave him. It was so hard not to speed home on the motorway knowing that he was at home crying. He does have clinginess going on at the moment, and he is often to be found hanging on my trouser leg. Anyone elses LO doing this just now?

JARMgotstuckupthechimney · 08/12/2006 08:25

Sorry MB - sounds like Johnny is a mummies boy!

Becky is so laid back its scary! She sleeps 6.30pm til 7am and has one or 2 sleeps in the day, and is relaxed around anyone!

We are now on 6 teeth and walking everywhere - she has even learnt to climb the stairs

MB Hope Johnny is back to normal tonight. Can't offer advice here either on the clingy thing as we don't have that (yet!)
Mrs NSNM Hope all has gone well today

We're back The wedding was fabulous and everything went to plan, bar Joey's sleep arrangements for last night - he was supposed to be staying in my Mums room so we could be uninterrupted , but i got a frantic phone call at midnight to say he was howling and they couldn't settle him! I then had to drag my carcass out of the bridal suite and get him. But apart from that, it was wonderful and over far too quickly! (Mrs)NSNM x

DontlookatmeImshy · 09/12/2006 21:57

NSNM - Sounds like you had a lovely day. Glad it all went well (apart from ds's sleep)

MB - ds has some very clingy times at the moment too, grabbing hold of legs, clinging on when we try to put him down. He sometimes just sits and crys when I leave the room even though he is perfectly capable of following me if he wanted. Not sure there's much we can do about it. I think it'sjust one of those phases.

We can't fit a stairgate at the bottom of our stairs. Ds loves going up and down. I saw a BabyWhisperer programme once where she showed a woman how to teach her baby to come back down the stairs backwards so I tried it with ds and he picked it up straight away. He crawls across the landing until he's about 1ft away from the top of the stairs, turns round 180degrees, reverse crawls to the topstep then slides downone stepat a time. Obviously we don't let him on themif we aren't right behind him but it's good to know if he ever 'escaped' he should be able to get up and/or down safely.

mawbroon · 11/12/2006 09:47

Glad everything (almost) went to plan Mrs NSNM. Now you will spend the next several months saying "OMG, we're married!" I sometimes still say that to dh 3+ years on!
Johnny's waking then subsequent howling for his mummy hasn't happened again so far. He does shout for me now through the day now and he shouts for me by my first name! My mindees and everyone else call me that, so it stands to reason that he will too! I still call myself mummy when I talk to him, but I do find it funny that he's 13 months and on first name terms with his mummy! We were at his cousin's 3rd birthday party yesterday and it was a bit of a nightmare because all these 3 year olds drop cake and stuff on the floor and given half a chance, Johnny would go round eating it all, but that's not a great idea with his egg allergy. People probably thought I was being a neurotic mother, but quite frankly, they can go and jump.
Quiet day today with only one 4 yo mindee who is great when he gets one to one.

ELF1981 · 12/12/2006 12:19

Evelyn is seeing Santa today!! The CM is taking her to toddlers (regular Tue thing) and Santa is going to be there for their Xmas party.

I bet she cries!

Yokefleet · 14/12/2006 11:17

elf how did Evie get on with Santa?? I think we may take Thomas on Saturday morning (weather permitting)
mb I think it was you??? Did you have a gate that Johnny didn't like the sound of? How is he with it now? and would you recommend that gate? we have several places were we could do with a gate but standard ones don't fit. How is it going with your mindee's mum now, any better?
Well Thomas has been grisly this week and I don't know if it is his teeth or not as I can't/won't get my fingers in there to find out (at last count I think he had 14)
Has anyone yet had a call for MMR? we haven't but think we are due around now (14 1/2months)
Is everyone ready for Xmas? I got everything out to wrap last night and opened a bottle of wine and got it all finished...the wine that is the pressies are still all on the floor in little stacks, just couldn't be bothered last night. Gotta go Thomas is screaming

Hi All! We took Joey to see Father Christmas whilst we were at Longleat this week (a mini-honeymoon pre Santorini next June. He seemed to really enjoy it, although i was sad that its come to the stage that children are no longer allowed to sit on Santa's knee. I understand why, in this age of paedophiles etc, but i still think it takes away some of the magic of christmas.

And surprise surprise, we've all come back full of cold (nice, the week before christmas!), and Joey's also got a manky cough.

Re MMR jabs - Joey's due to have his Monday (cough permitting). I hope he'll be fine...fingers crossed!

Take care, NSNM x

mawbroon · 16/12/2006 14:22

I'm just quickly checking emails etc at my PILs as our phone/internet has been out of order since Tuesday. Some numpty dug through the phone cable up the road whilst putting in new streetlights. It is not due to be fixed until Tuesday next week. This happened at the same time as some other numpty dug through the gas pipe at the other end of the road fracturing the pipe and letting all the rain water in, so our street was without gas (which for us meant all heating/hot water) for over 24 hours.

Anyway, YF we have a Kiddyguard (can't do a link, can't find the backslash on this keyboard, well, the backslash key does # and none of the other keys do what they are supposed to either [frustrated]). I like it but it takes a bit of practise to be able to open and close it easily. I get round this by just climbing over it. Johnny got over his phobia after we played peek a boo and other fun stuff beside it for a few days. He does moan now when I close it, but that's because I am spoiling his fun by not letting him play with the computer or stereo or whatever it is he is getting into.

We;ve not had the summons for the MMR or the pneumo vaccine yet, but I am expecting it soon. Poor wee lamb has a horrible cough just now, but it is much better today than it was yesterday. We are not doing any trips to Santa as I am bah humbug about the whole thing and will do the bare minimum until he is old enough to understand.

I have just ordered a Hippychick seat. Anyone use one? I have been going to the chiropractor about my back as it has been playing up. I reckoned that seeing JOhnny is still showing no signs of getting up on his feet then it was worth investing in one to see if it helps. I'll keep you posted.

Don't know when I will next get online. HOpe everyone is doing well.

ELF1981 · 16/12/2006 21:45

Evelyn had loads of fun seeing Santa! She didn't sit on his lap (though could have done, I think this was because he was just at the toddler group party rather than the Santa in the shopping centre type), just sat on the CM's lap, but we have got pics of her accepting her gift from Santa, bless!
She's also v poorly at the moment. She has got awful nappy rash, she's got a terrible cough (again) and snotty nose. I think that she's got more teeth coming, she tends to be the same when she's getting new ones. Only eight at the moment though. We're taking her to the baby clinic this week as we're off work now til after Xmas, to see what they think of her cough. I dont think they will give her the MMR, but maybe they'll give her the other one. Which is fine with me because I dont want her having both jabs together.

Anyway, hope everybody is well!
If I dont get chance to catch up before Xmas, hope everybody has a lovely time!!

Mawbroon, I hav a Hippychick hip seat and it is fantastic! I use it every day when I am dropping dd1 off to school and having to carry Alice (she is perfectly capable of walking but I'm always running late and having to hurry ). Also it's great around the house as Alice is very clingy, especially in the evening while I am trying to cook tea, but if I'm wearing the hip seat I can carry her comfortably for ages, and she feels more snug than in the back carrier I think.

People were talking about naps a little while ago, Alice does best if she has 2 naps a day, 9.45 - 10.30 and 1.30-3, this fits in well with afternoon school drop-off. Somethimes though she wakes up late (8.30 instead of 7.30) and isn't ready for a nap until 11.30, she then sleeps till 12.45 and won't go down again, but is v.v. grumpy by bedtime at 7. I think she would manage with one long nap in the middle of the day 12.30 - 2 but i can't fit that in around school times.

We've had fun preparing for Christmas, Alice seems uninterested in the Christmas tree but is desperate to get her hands on dd1's nativity set. She really didn't like Father Christmas at toddler group last week though, but she did have a nasty cold at the time and was quite grumpy.

For Christmas she is having a trike that I can push her round on while dd1 is riding her new bike. I haven't bought much else for her but I know she will be given loads by other people so am trying to avoid feeling that I am being mean. To be honest, there's nothing she needs.

Sorry this is so long, I never usually have time to post, just a quick look at what everyone's up to. Happy Christmas everyone!

notsonervousmum · 18/12/2006 20:18

Joey had his MMR and pneumo virus jabs this moring, one in each leg. After a small howl, he was fine, and that's him fully up-to-date with his vaccinations now till his pre-school boosters.

In case i don't get back online beforehand, i'll wish you all a very happy Christmas and a happy New Year 2007 now. Have oodles of fun with your bundles of joy!

Take care, NSNM x

DontlookatmeImshy · 18/12/2006 21:06

Ds seems totally uninterestedin Christmas at the moment. Even the sparkly lights on the tree don't get his attention. Although we think he will be more excitedwhen hegets his pressie. Its a Vtech ride on thing he saw at one of his friends birthday party, once he got on it he wouldn't letanyone else near it

He's not very well at the moment, bad cold and eye infection, waking up in the morning with his eyelashes all matted together
He's sleeping alot more though which means Iam too.Actually had a lie in yesterday.

Hopefully he'll be better for Christmas, can't believe it's only 1 week away. Hope you all have a Good one
