I'm going to try and make DS a travel drawing set. Using black felt (maybe in the shape of numbers/letters) in a fabric book. He can then write with chalk on the felt, and wipe it off with a damp cloth.

halestone · 16/10/2014 13:18

ohhh Stacks thats a lovely idea.

Beasty i like the easel idea as well, i read somewhere that there good for children of this age to use as well.

WLmum · 16/10/2014 19:13

I'm not a big fan of the easel - dmil bought one for dd1 5 years ago and I haven't found that any of mine have been bothered after the initial novelty has worn off. They would rather sit at the table to draw so it just takes up loads of space and now had been relegated to the shed!

utopian99 · 17/10/2014 14:19

I wondered about easels but we're v pushed for space (because selfish mummy won't turn her office into a third bedroom.) I tend to just cover the kitchen table in newspapers under the drawing paper and turn him loose though.

Really need to sort out Christmas before Nov 18th dd - have done nothing!

Barbeasty · 17/10/2014 14:32

The place i bought ours did a flat one you can hang up. Essentially a reversable whiteboard/ chalkboard.

A climbed out of his cot last night. DH found him ready to drop to the floor. So now to sort the logistics of taking the sides off (take 2!)

And I broke the news to nursery that we're taking him out in the new year.

SpottyTeacakes · 17/10/2014 14:58

Hales has h got any happyland stuff?

We got dd the alien house and everything that goes with it when she was 18 months. She loved it and is only just outgrowing it in perfect time as ds now loves it.

PurplePidjin · 17/10/2014 17:14

R does drawing etc in his high chair or at other people's play groups so I don't have to clean it up

Happyland is a good one, you can collect it over the years so if anyone asks what they'd like say Happyland. R has Duplo simply because the new stuff fits with all my old stuff! Playmobil lasts them a good long while too

R asked for, waited and did a wee in the toilet in the supermarket this afternoon Shock then unprompted on the potty when we got home Shock think I may have overdone it on the praise though, he was using Wee Wee as an excuse to get down and try to play at dinner. He's gone to bed hungry as no inducements would make him eat, hopefully it was the sandwich at 2:30 then scone while we were out my mum gave him and he won't be up at 11pm needing weetabix Hmm

Well done r! Even I won't go to the loo in the supermarket Grin

The dc are having shop bought pizza for dinner ShockBlush the food shopping was late and dd was falling asleep so put it in whilst I was putting the shopping away.

Ds was funny earlier. I put my shoes on to get dd and he got all excited, shout 'ba ba!' (Bye bye) whilst waving to dolly and then went up and gave her a kiss, grabbed his handbag and went to the door!

Stacks · 17/10/2014 19:02

T loves his duplo, he'll play well with it independently now, he used to love us building with him, but recently just wants you to watch him build!
DH got his bike nicked last night. They went through a locked street gate, a padlocked garden gate and a padlocked shed to get it. We've been considering putting off moving house for a while, but we've had this and two gun incidents locally in the past couple of weeks. Maybe we should move asap Hmm.
We're think of moving somewhere DH would need to commute from. Right now he has a 20m cycle, so can be home by 4:20pm. If we move he'd probably miss all family meals and only see DS and DD right before bed. Hard for him, me and them :(

PurplePidjin · 17/10/2014 19:29

RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH

R has thrown up roughly every 60 hours since last Thursday - just did it again. How the jeffing hell am I supposed to not contaminate other people if we're obeying the 48 hour rule AND HE'S STILL GOT THE FREAKING BUG Angry

OP posts:
WLmum · 18/10/2014 07:22

Hangovers and 5.10 waking toddlers should not be allowed to meet.

utopian99 · 18/10/2014 09:24

Ooh wl, I feel.for you!
Dh is off on his ex's stag do (they're having the hen next weekend) bearing Ouzo. I have requested photos of the ensuing horrors that are sure to follow... Grin

WLmum · 18/10/2014 17:58

Photos yes, but also time off in the bank for you utopian. That is a very valuable commodity!

MrsNutella · 18/10/2014 19:26

pidj ? sorry R has a bug! How annoying, kids have the best timing.

wl hopefully your DDs are almost in bed. I hope your day hasn't been too long or hard.

I need to moan, about DD
I know it won't be forever but today I have had enough. DD will not take a dummy. She gets overtired and very unhappy very easily.
I can't get her to sleep during the day. She will nap in the buggy some morning's but if it's raining or we have an appointment then I can't get them out in the buggy. I don't what to do. I feel lost and a bit pants. I just keep telling myself it isn't forever.
I cannot remember how or when DS changed and napped on his own.

PurplePidjin · 18/10/2014 22:16

no dairy more vom Sad

OP posts:
WLmum · 18/10/2014 22:30

nutella that's tough. T was like that so I used to have her in the moby a lot at that time, then after a few mins of crying and jigging she would always have at least a 30 min nap. I generally couldn't transfer her though. The moby was my saviour. I do remember her and dd2 going through a phase at about 4 months of barely sleeping at all in the day.
You're right that it won't be forever but I know it's really tough right now. Can you rock the pushchair in the hall? It was a bit hit and miss for mine indoors, although outdoors was always a winner. I remember db being shocked that I cleared snow off the rain cover to check on dd2!

WLmum · 18/10/2014 22:30

Poor little pidj

PurplePidjin · 18/10/2014 22:43

at least it's dp's turn next Hmm

halestone · 18/10/2014 23:00

Poor R i hope hes feeling better soon.

WL i hope your hangover passed quickly.

NutellaThanks Wine Wine Wine i hope your ok i totally understand where your coming from. Please try and be kind to yourself everyday. You are doing an amazing job. Is your mum due for a visit anytime soon? If she is could you maybe plan a few hours away from both DC possibly with your DH it may do you the world of good.

halestone · 18/10/2014 23:01

Stacks thats awful about your DH's bike. If it makes you feel better, once you've moved i think both DC will adapt quick to your DH's new work pattern.

PurplePidjin · 19/10/2014 12:39

BrewThanksCake for all

R is fine, just vomits an hour or two after bedtime. It's very odd. He's also changing his routine round I think - hungry at "snack time" (11am) but refusing lunch (after nap) so today I have filled him up and put him down slightly later at 11:45. Hopefully he'll sleep longer and we'll have more of an afternoon together!

Luckily he still likes to be slung so I can tie him on away from other kids/vulnerable people and go out for a walk and some fresh air, I just don't let him touch anything or let people near him. DP and I haven't had it, nor have the parents of the ds he caught it from, so it seems to be a baby-specific bug. Still not risking it with my elderly grandmother though Sad

OP posts:
Stacks · 19/10/2014 13:10

Nutella we use the sling here for DD bit sucks, because I'm always tied to the baby (literally) but at least she gets some sleep.
I did find with DD though that if I clock watched her waking time them her maps were more successful. I'd pick up a happy, smiling baby after about 60-90mins awake time, put her in the sling, and she'd sleep quick and well. With DS I always used to wait till he cried, but by then it was too late and he'd be overtired.
Hope you get something sorted soon.

MrsNutella · 19/10/2014 20:11

Stacks that is exactly how I feel. DD spends a lot of time in the Moby but it still restricts what I can do and what I can do with DS.
And I think you're right, I need to clock watch more with DD too. She will be 10 weeks tomorrow It is speeding by.

halestone · 19/10/2014 22:01

H has dropped her nap this week and been going to bed at about 9ish and falling straight asleep. Today she had a nap and shes wide eyed still. I will admit though i loved her nap as dfhe cuddled up in my arms and fell asleep. It was well worth it to have a cuddle with her.Grin

WLmum · 20/10/2014 06:54

hales we're still working on dropping the day nap to improve night sleep but it's scuppered every few days with a sneaky car or pushchair nap. Need to figure out a way to keep her awake on the school run.
