book that's a great stretch, 8 hours! Keeping my fingers crossed for you that it stays

BookTart · 09/11/2014 09:05

Cheers boo! It would have happened again last night I think, except some utter tool was letting fireworks off outside our house at 1.30 and woke her up Angry. She got up for the day at 4am today, so I'm really tired. DH has just put her down for a nap now. She can get herself back to sleep eventually in the middle of the night, but after about 3.30/4.00 she doesn't seem to be able to do it. Let's hope she learns soon!

How are you doing puggle? I hope little puggle is letting you sleep more now.

FelixFelix · 09/11/2014 19:44

Eek I managed to lose you all!

S has joined the shit sleepers club too. Well actually she joined it at 4 months but seems to have gone up the ranks this week. Awake hourly again since Wednesday night and I am so exhausted. Looking back, the usual 6 times a night doesn't seem too bad now. We are getting the keys for our new house on Saturday and I haven't packed a thing. I just don't have the energy to get anything sorted Confused

S sleeps in a best, babygrow and 1 tog sleeping bag still as she gets too hot and sweaty in a 2.5. She's always warm no matter what!

Swannykazoo · 10/11/2014 10:49

Oh boy - was delighted to get a few 1-4 stretches over the weekend but still 8-12 and 4-7 is every 45 mins. You ladies have made me think though - our room is freezing at around 4am (14 on the thermometer, usually 18 when we go to bed) so I wonder if sleeping bag + sleepsuit isn't cutting it, even with scratch sleeves over the top. Just been buying some longsleeve vests for an experiment. I might weep with joy if it improves things! And it was a lovely sunny weekend which helped no end

Bambooshoots14 · 10/11/2014 12:22

I think that's the problem we had puggle. My 3.5 tog with sleeves bag has arrived today so ill let you know how it goes. Even long sleeve vest, sleepsuit, 2.5tog and blanket and he's cold when he wakes up in the night

FelixFelix · 10/11/2014 16:45

Last night was horrendous. She screamed on and off all night and I cried. DP ended up getting up with her and he's taken the day off today. Last night was a bit colder than usual (although she still felt warm) so I'm getting the 2.5tog sleeping bag out tonight.

TobyLerone · 10/11/2014 16:46

Ugh, felix. You poor thing. We've all been there. Brew

Naturegirl82 · 10/11/2014 19:55

Felix that sounds horrible. We had that the other night and Dh and I had to take it in turns downstairs with her. It was because she was teething. Hope tonight is better for you

BookTart · 10/11/2014 20:51

I hope she's better tonight felix.

I currently have The Fear. This is the first night for weeks that P has gone to bed and then woken up an hour later. DH is up there now with her asleep on his chest. He has diagnosed a cold, but she was fine a couple of hours ago. It is going to be a long night...

FelixFelix · 11/11/2014 04:18

Thanks everyone. Been up since 3 again with the screaming Confused she's got a blocked nose so spits her dummy out as she can't breathe but then cries as she can't sleep without it. Need to wean her off but no idea how. We are currently downstairs watching baby tv..

Book how has your night been?

Bambooshoots14 · 11/11/2014 08:14

Sorry for all the mon sleepers.

The 3.5tog with sleeves seemed to be a success. He woke up a couple of times in evening and at 4 but I don't think temp related

felix I have found that since h got all his teeth he doesn't want his dummy anymore (but apparently still goes to sleep with it at nursery). When h is stuffy we use saline nose spray, snuffle babe on chest, children's olbas oil on mobile and calpol menthol plug in. Literally try everything ha ha. Hope you get some more sleep soon. I hAte those nights where you can't wait for the morning

FelixFelix · 11/11/2014 09:31

Glad the 3.5 tog worked well Smile

Managed to get her back to sleep in her (far too small) bouncy chair at 5.45 and she slept until 8.30. Feel like death warmed up! I had already slathered her in snuffle babe, Olbas oil and used saline spray too. Will use the vapour plug in tonight. Her face was a picture when I used the saline spray Grin Shes still not got any teeth but I'd love it if she refused her dummy once they have come through.

Need to try and attempt to pack something today. Don't even know where to start or how to entertain S in the process. Stress!!

FelixFelix · 11/11/2014 10:15

What are everyone's babies eating for breakfast, dinner and tea? I'm struggling to think of things to feed S since she has started refusing anything from a spoon (unless it's yoghurt or something else sweet Hmm). Just made her a cheesy omelette but she refused to eat it Confused

Bambooshoots14 · 11/11/2014 10:59

felix if she is feeling ill might be why she's refusing things. I give toast/ crumpets with peanut butter and banana for breakfast, fruit/ raisins / Ella's kitchen crisp things for snack, potato with bolognese etc, frozen fish fillets cooked in microwave/ pasta/ rice/ leftovers/ sweet potato boiled wedges, corn on cob, for lunch and dinners. Basically whatever I've got in and is quick

FelixFelix · 11/11/2014 11:10

Thanks there's some good ideas there. Does he eat everything with his hands or does he try and use a spoon?

Bambooshoots14 · 11/11/2014 11:34

If I'm feeding him with a spoon he will try to do it but isually holds the spoon upside down so doesn't work. He's got a little fork and if I stab food for him he can put it in his mouth but most things he'll eat with his hands

BookTart · 11/11/2014 12:58

Poor you felix. I hope she's better soon and you get some packing done.

P was pretty much up all night. She had a couple of short catnaps on me, and DH did a couple of hours as well. Her reflux is terrible, and her temperature is pretty high so I have been giving paracetamol. No other symptoms though. She's had two 10 minute naps so far. Poor baby.

Food-wise, she has weetabix, toast with marmite or crumpets with peanut butter for breakfast. Lunch is usually a sandwich or beans on toast. Dinner is sausages/fish cake/chicken with steamed veg, or sometimes she has what we are having.I need some inspiration for snacks though. She must be bored of raisins and baby snacks!

FelixFelix · 11/11/2014 13:16

Poor P Sad

I don't give snacks at all. I think I should start really. Once I've moved next week and have a working freezer (we have a spare but it's down in the cellar and a pain to get to) I'm going to have a look through the annabel karmel book and make up a load of food for her to freeze. I feel like she doesn't eat enough if I'm not spoon feeding her!

TobyLerone · 11/11/2014 13:23

I tried M with weetabix again this morning. She didn't like it a few months ago. She ate a few spoonfuls and then refused to use the spoon any more and ate a bit more with her hands but she wasn't keen. For breakfast she usually has toast with butter/marmite/peanut butter/mashed avocado, porridge with whatever fruit I have lying around, or fruit toast.
For lunch she often has a plate with some breadsticks, veg sticks, cheese or meat etc. Today she had a fishfinger and a banana :o
For dinner she has whatever we're having. Last night it was spicy sausage pasta. Tonight it's chicken casserole with dumplings. Tomorrow it's either quiche with oven chips and salad, or vegetable lasagne, depending on how lazy I feel.

She doesn't often have snacks. I just don't think she needs them with 3 meals plus 3 BFs in the day (plus all night, of course!). But if she does she has breadsticks, plain rice cakes, dried fruit, or a bit of whatever I'm eating that she can scavenge. This morning it was homemade banana bread.

I sometimes worry that she's not getting enough variety in the day, but she always has a varied, homemade, relatively healthy dinner, so I imagine she's probably doing ok. Also, she eats pretty much whatever she's given, which I don't suppose she would if she were too used to the same things all the time.

Mythreeknights · 11/11/2014 21:15

Hi everyone! Have missed you and just read through the last few pages to catch up. Was wondering if anyone had heard from becca?

Also, some ideas for improving sleep at ten months (based on experience with my two older boys as well as Lucy):

  1. The warmer the room the better the sleep, but blankets can be tugged up over their faces and scare them / suffocate them. We have a small oil plug in radiator in Ls room (it doesn't click like the electric ones) and have it on at lowest setting all night, which means the room stays about 18 degrees.
  1. I think now that they are rolling and moving about, they are quicker to wake and be unsettled. More of a problem if they need a dummy. I think you can get clips which connect the dummy to their sleep bag and if they lose it out their mouth they can find it relatively easily again. But best bet is to wean off dummy and onto thumb or a sucky toy. Easier said than done, but I did ds1 at 11 months and I swear it took four nights and he was done with it.
  1. I am wondering whether all these hourly wakers might have had difficult births? Would it be worth trying cranial osteopathy just in case they are crying because they have a cricked neck/ have pain somewhere?
  1. To all the exclusive breast feeders out there with bad sleeping babies, would it be so awful to introduce a bottle of formula at seven pm or whenever babies bed time is? I think formula is harder to digest and so takes longer for baby to wake hungry...and surely being exhausted is only making your milk watery and thin? Leading to them waking up even more frequently.
  1. Finally, when ds2 who was a terrible sleeper reached a year old, we happened to move house and we put him as far away from our bedroom as possible, and shut the door. I did hear him cry for about three nights, but was too tired to care, and then miraculously, he started sleeping through and self settling. It is worth it, I promise you. Get some ear plugs. The best gift we can give them is the power of self settling at night. I am a v light sleeper and often an insomniac and sometimes wonder whether my mother ran to my side too quickly when I was a baby.

To make you all feel better, Lucy has ringworm on her chest and I only realised yesterday (thought it was excema for the first week) and tonight, joy, I noticed a similar patch on ds1s chest. Slethering the cannesten on so fingers x we will be fungus- free by the weekend.

FelixFelix · 11/11/2014 21:29

Toby that sounds like a good variety to me!

Good to hear from you Mythree. Some good tips there Smile we are moving next week and S will finally be in her own room so I'm hoping it makes a difference. I'm glad it worked for you. I was wondering about becca too, as she's not posted for a while.

S is still awake Confused put her to bed at 7 and battled for 2 hours trying to get her to sleep. Now given in and she's crawling around the living room watching In The Night Garden. Going to try again in a minute but I'm so exhausted and getting stressed. She doesn't seem tired at all. Poor DP was meant to do some uni work tonight as he's got a deadline at the end of the week and he's spent all night helping me get her to sleep. Arghhhhhhh! Sorry for the rant Blush

TobyLerone · 11/11/2014 21:49

Breakfast and lunch are hard to vary much. Maybe I just have a limited imagination!

I really hate the coaxing, cajoling, begging, pleading, shhhing, patting, being used as a dummy etc which goes along with trying to get M to go to sleep/have a nap. You have my sympathy, Felix.

Nice to hear from you, mythree :) Glad to hear you found some things which worked for you. I don't think they are for me, but I do realise that hourly waking isn't ideal either. Tiny bastards.

TobyLerone · 11/11/2014 21:50

Oh, and I hope the ringworm clears up fast!

BookTart · 12/11/2014 07:32

Hope you got some sleep in the end felix

Ringworm mythree Sad

P's reflux is so bad now that she is literally burping up acid and dribbling it out. I can hear how sore her throat is because she is rasping when she breathes. Every time she burps, she screams Sad She's on the max dosage of Omeprazole for her weight as far as I can tell, and the GP probably won't be able to help. I might try anyway, although DH tells me it is a dead loss. I don't know what to do. Last night she had two half hour sleeps on my chest, and an hour with DH. we're all a bit broken.

BookTart · 12/11/2014 07:33

How's H doing bamboo?
