So here it is - a brand spanking new thread!

OP posts:

PS, to luckymummy!!

squidgeymiller · 28/11/2006 20:17

only joking

asur · 29/11/2006 11:33

why is it babies should only get full fat yoghurt and not the low fat? Just curious, I eat low fat stuff and DS sometimes has some of mine... Is the low fat bad for them or is it just better for them to have the full fat?

Littlemisspiggy - yup, DH is a SAHD. The plan was for me to be a SAHM but he lost his job so we had to change plans... He's not very good though - he still hasn't mastered multi-tasking so housework doesn't really get done!

Squidgey - did you get Niamh's results? Was it anything serious? Nice to hear her starting to speak. DS says 'mum' all the time but I think it's just a noise rather than a word..

DS is almost sitting on his own - keeps falling backwards though, is quite funny to watch. Even funnier when he grabs his feet to try and stay upright!

As for feeling normal... I might be weird but I think I felt back to 'normal' after about 6-8weeks... Was back in my normal clothes about that time - still have a bit of a loose belly but I can tuck it inside my pre-pregnancy clothes and no-one notices I've just convinced myself that I never put on any weight (and I've hidden all my mirrors!)

luckymummy2sophie · 29/11/2006 17:09

asur - the babes are meant to eat full fat version of everything, milk, cheese, butter etc. They need the fat cos they are growing. (If only we could just give them some of ours!!!) I don't think low fat is bad for them as such, just that they need the fatty versions of stuff. Hope that helps.

Sophie started sitting upright yesterday!! So cute!! she topples over after a few mins but we were enjoying playing baby left or baby right with her cousins last night!

No teeth yet though def teething pains.

luckymummy2sophie · 29/11/2006 17:12

P.S. has anyone else been ill while having to look after lo yet? (hangover doesn't count!!). I've got a nasty chest infection and it's been a real struggle getting out of bed (although thought of seeing dd helps ) DH told dd to 'be good for mummy today cos she's not feeling well', and it actually seemed to work I think she is missing me singing to her though (or maybe not !!!)

squidgeymiller · 29/11/2006 22:49

Niamh's results came back as negative. Haven't really been given a difinitive answer as to what the prob is but I'm pretty sure it's teething. The good thing is she's now back at nursery and I'm back at work. She started crying when I went to pick her up today, I think she must have missed me coz as soon as I picked her up she was all smiles and very happy!

Hope all the lo's are well, and luckymummy feels better soon x

plama · 01/12/2006 15:10

Hello everyone.
Haven't posted for a while. Good to catch up on how everone else is doing. DD2 has just turned 6 months and is sitting up really well. She is enjoying her food and now getting into finger foods too (toast fingers). It's great to give her something to chew on while I'm heating up her dinner. I use recipes from a baby cookbook by Lorraine Kelly ( she fronts it but it's mostly written by a nutritionist - Anita Bean)My freezer now has 36 mini tubs of babyfood [smug emoticon!] I have just arranged some settling in sessions at nursery for her as I go back to work mid January. I'm finding the thought of leaving her hard. DD1 starts Reception class at school in January too. I know she's ready for it but it all seems an awful lot all at once.

SAHMof1 · 02/12/2006 18:56

Today DS actually told me he needed a clean nappy , well through baby signing , but still, I?m bursting with excitement over it!

sniff · 03/12/2006 09:43

Hi all Gracie has 3 more teeth I cant believe how quick they are coming she is still not eating well and BF all the time though she must prefer that to proper food both the boys were weaned of me by now I was hoping to wear a proper bra at christmas!!!! Still if thats all I have to worry about we must be all OK
G says da da da and mom mom mom I thought it was just a noise but she is getting better at it now if I coukd just get her to sleep in her own bed

I hope all little onesare excited about christmas my boys are trying to make me put up the tree today!!! by jumping up and down in front of PC

luckymummy2sophie · 04/12/2006 09:06

hi all.
sorry to moan but I am feeling very sorry for myself, still feeling really rough, got horrible chest infection and laringytis. I have NO VOICE at all! Got to whisper, it's been like it since Weds. So fed up. Feel so rough, no energy. Poor little Soph, mummy can't talk or sing to her

DH is doing what he can but he has exams all week so needs to be revising when he's not on his course.

Also feeling down as Sophie is going to the CM for longer settling in periods now, as I go back to work in 4 weeks, I find it hard leaving her with the CM when I am here at home, perfectly capable of looking after her (apart from feeling like pants!)

On the plus side, Sophie has a whole weetabix for breakfast now!!! No teeth yet though.

sniff · 04/12/2006 11:28

gosh I hope you are taking the time while sophie is at childminders to have a sleep its terrible when you are ill
I do hope you feel better soon ans sophie enjoys playing at the CM

littlemisspiggy · 04/12/2006 11:40

Hi Everyone!
Luckymummy sorry you feel so poorly. I can empathise with the sense of loss at leaving your baby. I have been back at work for 2 wks now and still have not got used to it.
DS2 has also been a bit fussy about eating recently. Yesterday he wouldn't have breakfast or lunch - just spat it out but by the evening he was wolfing his carrot and sweet potato mash
Hey I hadn't though of giving him weetabix! Must try that one.
Hope you are all fit and coping well (or at least coping)

squidgeymiller · 04/12/2006 18:21

Hi all,
sorry you're not feeling too hot luckymummy. Can totally understand how you feel about leaving Sophie at CM, I felt exactly the same when I first left Niamh. All I can say is that weeks on she's very happy and settled, and really seems to enjoy spending time with Mummy and Daddy more, and she's always hugging and kissing us now, which is soooo fab!

Can I ask what everyone is doing for their lo's for Christmas presents? We've got a couple of things but aren't really going to get Niamh any BIG presents (apart from maybe a new carseat . Not really sure what to do about family either - have asked people to give Mothercare / Next vouchers so that DD can get the benefits throughout the year, or we can buy travel cots and carseats etc.... but most people have looked at me like I'm daft, so I just know she's going to get tons of presents.

luckymummy2sophie · 05/12/2006 13:24

Yes,I have been sleeping while Sophie at CM. Feeling a tad better but still no voice at all, very strange, it's been a week of whispering now!

I gave Soph weetabix at first, but she wasn't too keen, so I added a bit of banana baby porridge to it to sweeten it a bit, she then seemed to like it, so then I gradually reduced the amount of porridge in it, and now, she eats just the weetabix.

I was so determined not to give her sweet stuff too soon, I started on veg purees (as advised). Now I have the problem of Sophie not eating any fruit I try her with! Poor little thing is constipated. I am trying in vain to get her to drink water, out of 3 different bottles/cups (not at the same time!). She just won't take it. I'm worried about her, she is really struggling to poo, and when she does, they are very hard little pellets. Yesterday I was (do not read if you are squeemish) literally holding her bum cheeks apart to try and help the poo out that she was straining so badly for. (Ahh, the things we do for love.) I did at one point say to her "now you know how mummy felt trying to push you out". I don't think she understood.

Does anyone have any bright ideas to help my lo poo? I am trying to feed her more watery veggie purees. It's so hard (excuse the pun!)

sniff · 05/12/2006 13:39

I have had this with gracie a lot I give her lactolose or pureed apple with brown sugar as the brown sugar can help them go and have you tried a nuby cup I can get gracie to drink bits out of that

I have held her bum apart to to help her and she did a poo it resembled plasticine bless her she was so bunged up sorry TMI

tron · 05/12/2006 17:33

i found banana bunged up Erin, it's her favourite but doesn't do her bowels any good - could have played marbles with it it was that round and hard, sorry if thats tmi!!!!

The on.y cup she will take is the heinz baby basics, it's got a big soft spout and isn't a non spill one but it does have a lid, i have a cupboard full of baby cups now

luckymummy2sophie · 06/12/2006 08:38

thanks tron and sniff, it's nice at least to hear that other lo get constipated and it's not just me. I will try your suggestions.

Sophie is not well, poor thing, really not herself, off her food, projectile vomit last night, distressed crying (in pain cry), and high temp. Poor little thing, it's horrible to see. I'm meant to be travelling 100 miles to see my M&D today, I'm on a course thu and fri for work, and Mum's looking after Sophie. Talk about bad timing. I had to pay for the course myself, and thought I was so lucky cos it was near where M&D live so I had a babysitter too, and now if lo isn't well, I don't wanna go and leave her. I'm sure my mum will be fine looking after her, but it's the first time she's been poorly. She will probably want her mummy

I just can't believe how much I love her.......

SAHMof1 · 07/12/2006 22:15

Isaac has trouble going too ? I sit him on a potty and that helps him!

squidgeymistletoe · 12/12/2006 12:32

sorry to hear all your lo's are having probs "going", unfortunately can't offer any advice as DD has opposite prob!

How's everyone coping with the lead up to Christmas??

DD went to see Santa at nursery on Friday - v cute, gave her a santa hat and Thorntons Choc Santa, and her nursery Christmas party is this Friday. Not sure what they'll be doing but sounds like much fun!

Hope all are well xx

littlemisspiggy · 12/12/2006 13:02

Hi Squidgey hasn't this thread gone quiet?
The run up to xmas is stressful.
Ds1's (4) nativity/carol concert is next week and he has said he wants to be Joseph or a king. Quite a step forward in confidence since last year he was a sheppard (sp?)at the back, didn't open his mouth and just picked his nose lol!

squidgeymistletoe · 12/12/2006 19:11

Hi lmp, yes it's gone pretty quiet! What are you all doing??? Are you going to put us all to shame with the wonderful things you've been spending your time on instead of checking MN????

luckymummy2sophie · 12/12/2006 20:12

I was thinking it had gone quiet too, prob everyone is out Christmas shopping etc!

Thought you would all like to know that Sophie's constipation was thankfully temporary, she is back to normal 'movements'!!! The HV said it was prob cos she wasn't well. Poor little thing.

Eating going well, she's had cod and salmon now, both with sweet pot mash and green veg. It went down a treat, but the fishy smelling poo was NOT a treat for poor mummy!!! (TMI ? Sorry!! )

Sophie was fine with M&D for the day last week while I was on my course, I missed her, and mum kept her up so I could bath her when I got back, she was so excited to see me.....so lovely!
She spent 4 hrs with CM monday, starting to feel better about that too. She was fine apparently!

Still no teeth, but hair growing very fast, think I'll be plaiting it by Christmas!! (it's not as long as Suri Cruise's though!! LOL)

Hope you are all OK and just not posting cos it's a busy time of year.

Good will to all etc etc XXXX

TheHockeyandtheIvy · 13/12/2006 14:28

hello everyone - sorry I haven't posted for a week or so, have been SO busy. Lots of christmas parties, nativity concerts, work etc etc. I've been having a ball actually. Theo is as chilled as ever, he really enjoyed meeting father christmas at my work kids party. He just sat on his lap stroking his fake beard and laughing! It was lovely. I have theo and my friends 8 month old to entertain this afternoon and they're having fun looking at each other and laughing!

luckymummy - that hair sounds fab! Theos hair is so blonde that its almost invisible even though it's getting a little longer over his ears now, its still all babyish and fluffy!

Oh and I almost forgot, I taught him the red indian noise thing by putting his hand over his mouth and going "oh oh oh oh" etc, he sits and does it for hours now, watching for our reaction, funny chap!

hope you're all enjoying the build up to christmas x

plama · 13/12/2006 15:42

Hello Everyone
We've been busy too in the run up to Christmas. DD1 had her nursery concert today - she was a King on a cardboard camel . DH is on nightshift tonight so we went and bought our Christmas tree today. I'm sooo excited as it's a real one (we didn't have room in our old house) Can't wait to see what DD2 makes of it all. My mum is visiting this week and we're having much more success getting DD2 to take a bottle from her rather than me - so hopefully she'll take some milk during the day when I go back to work in January
Hope you and your little ones are all well.

Happy Christmas to everybody - we've been chatting for over a year now and I consider you all friends.

Love Plama and family

BrummieMomInMerthyr · 13/12/2006 22:37

Hi everyone! Great to know you're all getting on ok and the constipation is better! Lol
We've been busy trying to get everything ready for xmas, still not quite there yet though!
Dylan finally has teeth, 2 at the bottom. His hair is probably as long as Suri Cruise, so much so me and dh have to get the clippers out every now and again
Hope you are all enjoying the build up to our lo's first xmas xx
