So here it is - a brand spanking new thread!

luckymummy the rings I have were from John Lewis, different brand (Sassy) but same thing. Just so you have more options in case you're not near a ELC. No I'm not a snob, my mum bought them for her

luckymummy2Sophie · 27/09/2006 16:48

thanks guys. Great tips. I shall be off to the shops tomorrow to buy some. Blimey, MN is great isn't it!!! I have 1 close friend from university who has a baby 2 weeks younger than dd, but other than that I don't know anyone with babies the same age. It's great to have this forum to get advice.

squidgeymiller · 28/09/2006 12:23

careful luckymummy2sophie - it's a slippery slope! Pretty soon you'll be on here constantly

tron · 30/09/2006 21:58

i haven't posted for a while but i thought i'd update on DD. She thinks she chocolate now as she can roll over as wriggle forwards but it tires her out so she often falls asleep face down on her play mat

She loves baby rice mixed with banana but turns her nose up at anything else, hockey mums DS sounds very adventurous compared to DD. She's also getting 2 teeth and so is knawing everything in sight, including me, DS DH clothes toys, but she's in very happy and smily, except for nurses,i think it's the uniform ha ha

She's still sleeping 12 hours at night and loves shopping - perfect

hockeymum · 01/10/2006 14:04

with you on the shopping tron. iirc it's a small window of time when they are happy in the shops, once they can crawl they want to be out of the pushchair all the time. So, I'm taking ds out a lot to get him used to it and doing my christmas shopping early before he starts kicking off. FWIW DD was a fussy eater too, I'm glad DS has more adventurous tastes and I'm tring not to fall into the trap I did with DD and just give her what she liked best every meal time as she is still fussy now at 4. Might not work, but he hasn't turned down anything so far.

I start my breast feeding counsellers course on thursday I must say I am really looking forward to it (gets me out the house) !

DD is still not doing much but she hardly ever sleeps during the day and is really clingy, both of the boys where happy to get attention off anyone but she only wants me, she wont even sit with her dad,
but she is feeding a lot less now thankfully so if only I could put her down for a few minutes might house might get sorted

p.s anybody know where to get a nice christening dress from that doesnt cost a fortune!!

asur · 03/10/2006 18:41

Hi all,

Luckymummy2sophie - I'm glad you asked about what to do with a 4month old... There's quite a few times when I sit and think "what do I do now?" Especially when DS's attention span is about 20mins tops. I usually just put him in his pram and go for a walk when I've totally run out of other things to occupy him - at least that gives us both fresh air and me some much-needed exercise

Sniff - with you on the clingy thing. DS seems to be a bit of a mummys-boy just now. HATES being with his dad and if anyone is holding him, he just stares at me and as soon as I leave the room, he screams till he can see me again... Can be pretty tiring and frustrating not being able to do anything. He's going to have to get over it though as I go back to work on Monday and DH is being a SAHD... good luck to them!

Oh, and Christening dress - I would say eBay is good. Can get pretty cheap new one or really cheap used ones (only used on 1 days so still pretty much new) Don't know of anywhere else though, am a bit of an eBay addict!

luckymummy2Sophie · 04/10/2006 11:19

Hi Sniff,

Shame you can't do what I did for dd's christening dress.....we used the one that myself and my 2 siblings wore, and my aunty, and my cousin, and my dad and....his Mum!! (my gran who I never had the privelage to know). The dress was pure silk...over 100 years old. It was so special having dd in it. Any family heirlooms around you could use??

Re- toys for 4 month old...got the rings from ELC, and...dd loves them!!

Just off swimming with dd...

plama · 04/10/2006 20:28

Hello everybody. We're excited as we're having a trip to Center Parcs ( hate the Americanised spelling BTW!)for the weekend. Have got a tag- along bike for DD1 and are looking forward to a nice few days together. Still holding off on the weaning at present, but I think DD2 might be teething. She keeps trying to use my nipple as a chewy toy - heaven help me when she gets teeth (DD1 didn't get her first tooth till 14 mths and I stopped BFing her at about 9 months so I never had that problem before)

luckymummy2Sophie · 06/10/2006 10:08

Hi Plama...and everyone...

TEETHING???? My dd is 21 weeks old and I'm wondering whether she is teething? I thought it was too early, but she is dribbling lots, and since yesterday has had rosy cheeks, one side worse than other. She's putting everything in her mouth. Does anyone have similar experiences? Anyone with more than one child have past experience of teething and when it can start from?
Hope you enjoy centerparcs Plama, we love it there. We're going next Easter.

One other thing....sorry does anyone else have the problem of babes turning onto their tummies to sleep in the night? I never know what to do. We have it drummed into us to make sure they sleep on their backs. You can't stay up all night turning them though can you (sorry to make them sound like sausages on a grill!!)
Any comments???

hockeymum · 06/10/2006 19:14

luckymummy lol at the image of spitroast babies!!!

Basically, once th4ey can turn onto their fronts by themselves it is fine to let them sleep like that as they are mobile to move their heads to the side to breathe properly. Hope that helps.

Hmmn, the teething thing. I've had this with ds for about 7 weeks now, it is never ending! He pops teeth up but then the gums swell and hide them again and this has carried on all that time, they don't seem to be growing out much and he goes through phases of pain and screaming with them for a few nights then is fine for a few nights. He has been biting and gnawing things and a dribbling monster for 2 1/2 months, it is partly teeth but also partly his age, wanting to learn to bite for food (very funny when he sees me eating he pretends to chew too and then gets upset there is nothing there to eat!). The red cheeks are a sign of teething and bright red gums if she has them. But cheeks can also be a sign of the changing weather, its been pretty windy and colder lately so their skin gets a bit exposed. My friends baby teethes every tooth with a full blown cold and chest infection, not just a temperature and sniffles, its been a nightmare few months for her - Here's hoping all our Maybabies are a bit better at it than that!

Hi May 2006 moms!! I've only just found you, how embarrassing!! Ds Dylan is now 21 wks and seems to have been teething for a LONG time. He has screaming ab dabs for a couple of days and nights at a time aswell. I've just discovered medised, so we'll be giving that a go soon! Glad i've found you all .

hockeymum · 06/10/2006 21:20

Hi Brummie Mum welcome. I'm just down the road from you in Cardiff and tron from this group is from St. Athan in the Vale (think we're both English living in South Wales too which I guess you are given your talkname?!).

Haven't heard of medised, what is it for/does it do? Calpol doesn't have the correct knock-out effect on DS that it needs to with his problem teeth!

OP posts:
sniff · 07/10/2006 14:05

hi my lilltle one has 2 teeth she is 18 wks old

but the boys didnt get them till 6 months there teeth move under the gums as well though so you can have teething probs for weeks before they show themselves

BrummieMomInMerthyr · 07/10/2006 14:26

hi hockeymum, medised has got a small dose of antihistamine in it so it has the desired sleep effect can get it over the counter. nice to know there are other adopted welsh near by!!! (we met in the meet up thread didn't we?!)

BrummieMomInMerthyr · 07/10/2006 14:28

And medised is paracetamol based, sorry, forgot that bit!!!!

luckymummy2Sophie · 07/10/2006 17:34

Hi all,
Thanks for responses. dd has slept on her tummy the entire night for the last 3 nights. Me and dh were concerned at first, but are becoming more relaxed about it now, esp advice re them being able to roll etc. It makes sense. No spitroast required LOL!!!!
Regarding teething...seems to have calmed down for a bit. Got some dentinox teething gel. Cheeks less red. bit happier.
Thanks as always!

asur · 08/10/2006 10:13

Hi all,

I don't have much to add just now but thought I'd say hi...
Luckymummy - definately wouldn't worry about sleeping on tummy - my neice has slept on her tummy since she was born, wouldn't sleep any other way! Midwives and HV didn't seem worried about it - although was 2 years ago so wouldn't surprise me if there were different 'rules' then

DS is doing fab - he's rolling all over the place, really miss putting him down and knowing he'll stay where he was put... He keeps getting stuck places - it's very cute but frustrating for him! LOL

I'm back at work tomorrow - getting quite nervous about it but sure it will be fine. Just weird going to work after 7months off - wonder if I'll remember anything that I'm supposed to do! Plus my boss has changed so I don't know what she's like! Fun!

Take care, hugs to all the babies...

hockeymum · 08/10/2006 10:25

asur - good luck tomorrow with going back to work. It's a big step so you will probably feel a little strange at first but it's surprising how quickly it gets to normal drudgery! (or is that just my job!) Your lo sounds very cute rolling all over the place!

Theo is poorly at the moment. He has spent the last 2 evenings screming his head off and punching his jaw, not sure whether it is teeth pain or ear pain so will take him to the docs tomorrow just in case. He doesn't have a temperature at the moment but even when he falls to sleep (in my arms with a dummy tht he hasn't used for a couple of months but suddenly needs) he moans in pain in his sleep poor boy. He has just had nurofen and gone for a sleep so thought I'd catch up here then do some chores - life rarely gets more exciting!!!

OP posts:
BrummieMomInMerthyr · 09/10/2006 11:14

Hi hockeymum, hows Theo, did you take him to the docs?

squidgeymiller · 09/10/2006 13:30

Hi all, haven't been on for a while but thought I'd check in.

Hope you both got on OK today Hockeymum and Asur with Theo and returning to work.

I've been pretty busy lately trying to find a new job. Am supposed to go back to my job 30/10/06 but can't seem to get childcare + travel etc arranged as work is 15+ miles away and trains are crap + DH has the car. Also with the cost of childcare can't figure out a way of doing this job and earning any money (!). Was planning on being a SAHM but DH's contract has been terminated as of December so that Idea is right out of the window, which is great fun !!

squidgeymiller · 09/10/2006 13:31

sorry, forgot to say hi to Brummie

Imascaryfairy · 09/10/2006 21:42

Hi girls - I've been keeping up with all your progress but haven't posted in ages. DS2 is doing really well - he is such a smiler, and loves making noise!! Put him in a door bouncer the other day and he LOVED it. It's also great watching his interaction with his big brother!
Am going to start weaning him this weekend.........my baby's growing up.....

hockeymum · 09/10/2006 22:17

Hi, Theo seemed a bit better today so I didn't take him to the docs in the end. It MUST be his teeth - they've been hurting him for ages and just will not come through. We'll have to have an online cracking open of the champagne when all our db's teeth are through!

He's been beginning with the stranger anxiety thing lately. DD had this from birth which was a nightmare as she wouldn't go to anyone but me, so I'm quite glad we got to 5 1/2 months before DS's kicked in. He just looks at the person holding him and sticks his bottom lip out before his eyes fill with tears and he sobs! Bless him, I can't resist him when he looks like that and it doesn't last forever. My friend passed down her activity centre (you know the ones they sit in, in a little sling thing and can trun around and play with toys) and he loves it. DD calls it his office.

Anyway, enough rambling. Good luck with the weaning fairy and Squidgy hope things all work out with finding a decent job. It's so hard to find some way of bringing money in that fits in with childcare. That's why I'm a qualified legal exec who works evening shifts on the till at Morrisons hey ho!!! Thinking of you as you try and find a better alternative that works for you all.
