So here it is - a brand spanking new thread!

OP posts:
SAHMof1 · 24/10/2006 11:43

Hi all. Luckymummy2sophie. I live in Highworth. Small world, eh? Most people know of Swindon, so that?s what I tell them! Can?t help Squidgeymiller, my DS sleeps well in a travel cot, but it was given to us, so no idea what type. Sorry!

And I can?t get DS to drink out of anything but a bottle/my boob!

Talking of my little man ? bye all ?

tortoiseshell · 24/10/2006 13:55

HI everyone, quick update on ds2 - just started solids this week, and he loved it! He's still diddy, and has been a real pain at night - waking up to 5 or 6 times, so I've caved in and started him on banana and baby rice - yum yum yum.

Hope everyone else is ok.

evilstepmom · 25/10/2006 19:33

HI there all...another tooth has appeared! and I wouldn't be surprised if a third was imminent. blimey she'll have a full set by xmas at this rate! is this normal??!! (like I can do anything about (or care!) if it isn't...!!!)
poor little sweety pie not a happy girl at all with them today but now sleeping like a little applecheeked angel.
hotpot have tried mixing all things green with all things not green and its going down a treat! so many thanks for that one.
haven't been brave enough to try the actual brocolli again yet but dd needn't think she's getting away with that one...it will be served soon...!!
squidgey tried spooning water into her little toothy mouth today - worked for about 3 spoonsful til she obv cottoned on to what sneaky mummy was up to and spat it out firmly! looks like she may be getting juice after all...
hope all the rest of you lovely ladies and babies ok

luckymummy2sophie · 27/10/2006 15:23

SAHMof1
I lived in Sevenfields for 19 years! Blimey, can't believe what a small world it is, Highworth is such a wee small place!

Re- solids, dd not on them yet but I did spend this morning doing a massive cook up while she was asleep, I've done B squash, sweet pot, carrot and spinach and sweet pot and spinach. Humph, something tells me anything with spinach won't go down well, it also looks as though it will stain very easily....bright green!
I liked the earlier idea of adding green stuff to potato, will try that. Only 3 weeks til I'll try her with it all!! Must buy a highchair!
She's very content on milk at the moment.

SAHMof1 · 27/10/2006 21:37

My little man now eats most veg, including peas, broccoli, leek and the usual carrots, potato, sweet pot, etc. He especially likes banana and fromage frias (although his sick now smells like proper sick and turns my stomach now!). Tonight he had creamy cheese mash (with cheddar and cows milk!) but he didn?t like his pasta and tomato yesterday though. That?s the only thing so far he has turned his nose up at! I didn?t force it, so he ate half a banana instead!

Wow, when I sit and write it all out, it?s amazing what we?ve tried. I?ve been doing it one new food every other day since he was 5 mths old, starting with all veg/fruit, and just recently trying dairy and pasta!

How are you all, and your LOs?

SAHMof1 · 27/10/2006 21:38

Oh, and he's had chicken with pot. and leek, and beef stew too!

BrummieMomInMerthyr · 28/10/2006 20:03

Hi SAHMof1, i'm glad your lo has had such a varied start to solids! mine has too and i was thinking that perhaps i was doing it wrong
Haven't tried meat yet, but will now! Know what you mean about the sick!!!!!!YUK
Are you ff? was thinking of moving to follow on milk, but i'm confused by all the different comments.
Evilstepmom, i'm so jealous of the teeth! Ds seems to have been teething forever now, poor thing!

MandyBOO · 30/10/2006 21:41

SAHMof1 - how old is your lo?

evilstepmom · 30/10/2006 21:52

evening!
sahmof1 - dd has had shepherds pie and roast dinner and seems to like it! had a bad experience with purple sick today (don't ask!) but otherwise weaning still going ok.
brummie - the teeth will come, don't you worry, and when they do you'll be wishing them away again! dd is ok on the whole but not a happy girl at all today.
yay for calpol!

SAHMof1 · 31/10/2006 12:47

DS is 6 months, and has 2 teeth already. He has had them since he was about 4 1/2 months! He is still b/f, but has normal formula (from what I gather 2nd stage formula has extra iron, which isn?t really necessary if baby is getting a balanced diet). I?m going to stick with normal formula right up until 1 year, when he can drink cow?s milk. The 2nd stage stuff is more expensive! Seems like a con to me.

Need advice though ladies. Can babies eat normal fromage frais, or does it have to be baby fromage frais?

tron · 01/11/2006 20:48

hi, thought i'd step back in - been v busy. Erin is a fussy eater- her favourite is banana or those cow and gate pureed fruit, fruta pura or sonething- I've been cooking up different veggies but she won't eat it unless I add some banana, I know it sounds disgusting but she likes that! She has 2 teeth coming, you can see them but they haven't quite broken through yet. She always cries for her grandad but smiles with dimples at everyone else .

She's trying to crawl but either goes backwards or round in a circle and then gets cross. If you stand her up she starts laughing and bouncing so I might get one of those bouncer things, DS used to almost run and then take his feet of the ground and alsost swing into the door frame.

Isn't it amazing how much they have changed and grown since birth??

ps she's still sleeping all night, gloat gloat gloat

Tron both breast milk and formula are incredibly sweet hence why babies like fruit! Find me someone who doesn't like chocolate

You can try mixing in pear or apple - Annabel Karmel recommends it for vile foods such as broccoli, cauliflower etc to sweeten the taste and therefore over time increase the veg content. Have you tried carrot? TIt is considered sweet and potato with breast or formula milk as it is a taste the already love and recognise. Worth a try.

Isn't weaning fun???

tron · 02/11/2006 16:57

carrot get's spat out - it doesn''t really taste like lemon but she pulls a face like it does - fussy devil. oh what can i try next - potato with banana????? Can you freeze it with the milk in it or do you add it once defrosted???

hockeymum · 03/11/2006 08:08

tron - it is fine to add milk before freezing or after. It keeps for one month in the freezer with milk or three months without iirc.

DS much prefers it if I scoop out some baked potato to add to his veggie purees, not sure how he can tell the difference, maybe its fluffier or something.

Baked 2 butternut squashes yesterday instead of the nightmare that is cutting through their tough skin and chopping and boiling them, it was much easier I just scooped the flesh out with a spoon afterwards and pureed it with some boiled water - kept more nutrients I presume as well.

At 6 1/2 months DS still not quite sitting up (he prefers to slam himself backwards on purpose and turn himself onto his front. But when he is sat on my lap he rocks and wriggles himself forward so I expect once he does choose to sit up he'll be shuffling himself along the floor and making us laugh.

i'm so jealous of you veg or fruit eating babies. ds just won't let me put a spoon in... we gave him a chip tonight ( god that sounds bad!) dipped in butternut squash, which he tried to eat himself. i think that he thinks that he is 2 and can eat like the rest of us... hmmm maybe blw is the way for him..... but at least ff is going better still wakes in the night, so i know my supply wasn't low...

hockeymum · 05/11/2006 15:05

Grace refuses to eat anything but rusk and only a bit of that. I feel its because I have tried to delay the weaning thing, My other two were fine but they were weaned about 16 weeks

I have bought a butternut squash to try and a baby chocolate pudding in the hope she will eat has anyone got any more ideas please

evilstepmom · 06/11/2006 10:07

hi sniff - dd loves all fruit and also fromage frais? sheused to eat anything but has recently gone off veg, however i trick her into eating it by alternating spoonfuls with something she does like - carrot and pear anyone?! (pear is a good baby food btw?) good luck

louismummy · 07/11/2006 09:46

ds2 yesterday opened wide when ds1 was 'helping' and had a few mouthfuls of squash..... more than we've got him to eat. then had a couple of mouthfuls of ds1 yoghurt ( which he loved) hth

largeginandtonic · 07/11/2006 16:51

Sorry to gate crash but are you still interested in the Tiffany stuff hockeymum? Have not heard from Mcdreamy so you are welcome to them. How do we contact on here without giving out details?

Im from the due in may 07 thread, we are all just in to our second trimesters, i bet you all remember it well!

BrummieMomInMerthyr · 08/11/2006 12:34

Hi ladies! Hope you and lo's are all well
I need some of your experience and expert advice!
Dylan is weaning well and eats all sorts of fruit and veg and fromage frais so thats great but he's never been a good milk drinker, only 5oz about every 3 hrs. Because of his milk intake he doesn't usually go to bed until 10ish so he has around 25oz a day. Has anyone got any good ideas how to keep his milk intake up but still be in bed by 7-8? whats your routine? I'd really appreciate any ideas! TIA

louismummy · 08/11/2006 17:24

my routine is very hap[ hazard during the day. but bath is about 7pm with ds1, then milk at afterwards listening to ds1 story then bed then i wake him for a dream feed at 10-11 depending on whats happening. then ( unfortuneately he STILL wakes in the night for a feed but i think thats its more comfort than necessity) then sleeps to 7.30 -8. usually sleeps about 2-3 hours during the day in 2 or 3 sleeps depending on whats happening. hth

BrummieMomInMerthyr · 08/11/2006 21:39

Thanks Louismummy, i'll give the dream feed a go!

largeginandtonic · 09/11/2006 10:05
