I say "baby led" when I'm just making it up. Also describe baby clothes as vintage when they are hand me downs.

liquidstatehasrisenagain · 27/07/2014 15:29

ellie Grin Grin

Have been having problems winding bean so got some infacol and used yesterday but bean has not done a poo since. Will it make her constipated?? Am not using it today just in case.

Mum goes home tomorrow so will have my first day all on my own, scary stuff.

On a happier note bean is smiling lots and lots and has started rubbing my arm in sync with me rubbing her back during winding. Its making me weaken my resolve not to hold her too much Grin

icklekid · 27/07/2014 16:49

liquid glad bean is happy!

I've also been struggling to wind ds and been watching lots of you tube clips! If no improvement had thought about trying infacol as is mainly in eve that gets so upset! Don't think the heat is helping!

tea we didn't notice any difference between first week and second. Maybe you just have a lovely content baby!

Just woke ds up as been 4hours since feeding Sad hate hearing him cry when was so fast asleep! Sent dh upstairs to do nappy before what will no doubt be a mega feed!

liquidstatehasrisenagain · 27/07/2014 18:54

Anyone else got a baby with mad hair??? Am hoping its the weather and not her hair in general. Bean looking like the baby grinch at the moment especially when she is smiling Grin

Also bean has just finally done a big mega dump which leaked over DM who was feeding her... Grin Grin Grin

icklekid · 27/07/2014 23:54

Oh no liquid no overflowing nappies here yet -although I have had that with a friends baby before! Hope it doesn't stop dm helping more!

teaandkittens · 28/07/2014 12:03

Grin At the overflowing nappy! We haven't had one of those yet, but dd's aunts are visiting at the mo and she has some spectacular farts!

Dream baby ended last night with constant grizzly feeding from 6pm-1am. We were both very stressed and there were tears (mostly mine.."I'm sorry for being so rubbish!")

She was good in the night though and is sleepy and content this morning so maybe it's just an evening thing.

In other news, my right breast is swollen and sore and my nipple is bleeding. I've been hand expressing a bit and massaging the hard bits (shooting jets of milk across the room) but is there anything else that will help? It hurts when she feeds but only at the start so I'm hoping if I just keep feeding her from it it will get better itself?

When are you supposed to bath them for the first time?

ismarah · 28/07/2014 12:39

Tea Lansinoh is awesome for sore nipples and can be prescribed in the UK so free for new mums. It's also available in supermarkets and over the counter if you can't wait. I'm told nipple shields will also help but I've not personally tried them so this is a general recommendation rather than a specific one.

I waited to bathe bean until her cord stump had fallen off and her belly button was scab free. So her first bath was in week 3 - she loved it but kept trying to drink the water. It's not like they're running around on a building site in this heat and desperately need a wash - they sleep, eat etc. She did get washed with a cloth when needed and every morning but that's been fine.

Bean has lots of hair including some lanugo on her shoulders but it's relatively well behaved. If she gets very hot it gets a bit funny at the back but mostly it's quite presentable.

Casmama · 28/07/2014 13:22

I also waited till the cord scab had come off to bath and used this which DS loved.

icklekid · 28/07/2014 13:23

tea I would second Lansinoh being amazing. If nipples get very sore/cracked I've used nipple shields which really helped allowed me to continue to breastfeed.

ismarah we bathed after 3/4 days just to get ds used to water- taking care of stump (which fell off after a week because of the heat!) And he loves it! Especially in this heat cools him down Smile

Mrsc020987 · 28/07/2014 16:45

For the sore nipples, lanisoh lanisoh and more lanisoh no such thing as too much and try and use some of your own milk too, it worked a treat for me! Well first "July" baby is now 7 weeks and has grown from 5lbs12 to a hefty 10lbs6. First set of immunisations on Friday i cannot believe it! Had a very unsettled time recently with heat from both of my dds but getting past. Now in fully fledged sleep deprivation mode. Have been needing a lot of help recently, dd1 just 18 months so very busy and they seem to have a who can scream the loudest competition every hour or so! The only thing getting me through is the 'this doesn't last forever' chant, other than that its bliss!

AuntieMaggie · 28/07/2014 21:10

mrsc you're making me reconsider my wish to have another one fairly close in age!

I'm not sure how a bath is supposed to be relaxing for a baby before bed given how awake ds is after!

ismarah · 29/07/2014 03:40

Hah. DH decided, with my approval, to sleep in the spare room tonight. Bean's rather showed him up though by sleeping in one stretch from 23.30-03.00. Oh well, I hope ge will get some rest!

Auntie just like some people prefer a shower before work and some people prefer a shower before bed - and some people prefer baths to showers, babies aren't all the same either. If your DS Is more awake than not after a bath, give him one before a feed?

ItsAlwaysBetterOnHoliday · 29/07/2014 04:13

My insomniac brain has now decided to keep me awake even when DS is asleep :(

He's making so much noise in his sleep I'm on tenterhooks waiting for him to wake up for the next feed.

Not sure how I'm going to do this. Solo piloting of baby is hard. Feeling really low tonight.

ItsAlwaysBetterOnHoliday · 29/07/2014 05:00

Aaand we're already at the next feed. Think I must have got a grand total of 10 minutes sleep inbetween :(

its I've done that before not nice Sad

I can't believe ds last night- screamed until 10pm, slept until 3 then again until 6! Only one get up in the night...

ItsAlwaysBetterOnHoliday · 29/07/2014 11:42

Yay for sleep ickle! Although the screaming can't have been much fun :(

teaandkittens · 29/07/2014 11:54

Thanks everyone for nipple advice- lansinoh is being applied liberally! I can't face feeding off the sore breast so using the other one and expressing from the sore one. Phoned local NCT counsellor- she's calling back later so hopefully will get sorted before my house is full of visitors tomorrow and Thursday Hmm

It's-sorry you had a rough night, hope you've managed to get some sleep this morning Thanks

ismarah · 29/07/2014 14:44

Went to the zoo that was the drop in baby clinic today and had bean weighed; she's put on nearly 2lbs in 4 weeks!

ItsAlwaysBetterOnHoliday · 29/07/2014 15:36

That's great ismarah!

ItsAlwaysBetterOnHoliday · 29/07/2014 15:40

Oh and thanks tea. I've managed to squeeze in a morning and afternoon nap today which means hopefully I'll start to feel a bit human. I seem to get very low in the early hours (which makes sense as that's when the sleep deprivation feels at its worst and when I feel most isolated) and I need to keep an eye on that. Things always seem better during the day though, even when DS is having a meltdown so I will remind myself of that next time!

AuntieMaggie · 29/07/2014 21:20

it's I feel the same in the early hours and also mornings when DP isn't here... ds is demanding in the mornings so if I have to go anywhere I end up crying because I have to let him cry while I get ready and if I don't have to go anywhere I cry because I can't sleep/do anything until about lunchtime and nothing I do makes him happy.

Last night I had the grand total of about 2 hours sleep... he went down at 10:30 but instead of the 3 or 4 hours til he first wakes it was an hour so I was then awake til 4:30 either feeding or holding him or trying to put him down when he graced me with about another hour and then was his usual wakeful self til we went out at 11. He slept the whole time we were out but was awake soon after we got back. I'm just feeding him now and hoping he sleeps tonight!

ItsAlwaysBetterOnHoliday · 29/07/2014 21:40

auntie sounds very similar to DS! In fact I'm also feeding now in the hope he'll let us have at least 3 hours before waking up again!

ItsAlwaysBetterOnHoliday · 29/07/2014 21:40

Here's to hopefully not too a disturbed night for everyone... :)

icklekid · 30/07/2014 04:23

Oh dear auntie that sounds particularly tough especially not being able to nap even- is there anyone who can come over and cuddle post feed so you can rest tomorrow if dh not about?

its the Early hours of the morning are definitely the worst. I find taking photos/videos during the day when ds is happy/content useful to look at or sometimes just mum's netting is enough to distract!
