She has done a small sneaky sick on my jumper and fed again - about ten minutes each side .

I've tried winding her too and sometimes she will burp and sometimes not. FX she has gained by Friday! Then I can just get on with flowing her lead.

MrsNutella · 20/08/2014 21:25

Thank you Nancy!

ismarah · 20/08/2014 23:16

Regarding hind milk, do read this Kellymom article which explains it brilliantly: kellymom.com/bf/got-milk/basics/foremilk-hindmilk/

icklekid · 20/08/2014 23:47

Ohhh mumsnet is different. ..I think I like it but bit Hmm about change!

mrsnutella ds does 10mins and refuses I have to keep alternating between. Also advised to express first so gets less hind milk but not been able to yet. Only started this couple of days ago because of growth spurt. If your dc is having plenty of nappies also a good sign! Good luck!

ItsAlwaysBetterOnHoliday · 21/08/2014 06:07

Oh, new layout...

ismarah thanks for the storage advice. I think I was being over cautious because I don't know the temperature of our fridge.

DH is taking today off to get the car serviced and therefore offered to do a night feed - so got up at 12. :) However when I got up to do a nappy change during the next feed at 4 I noticed all 3 bottles that had been in fridge were empty - that means DS drank 7oz! Is that even possible for a 6 week old?! Bit worried something's up with either our feeding technique or bottles if he's eating that much.

ItsAlwaysBetterOnHoliday · 21/08/2014 06:09

Or I guess it could be a growth spurt - he's been having a few very long feeding sessions in the past few days, although seems to give up over lunch/early afternoon...

AuntieMaggie · 21/08/2014 06:25

its when I've fed ds with a bottle he's guzzled it down and then still had a normal feed!

So last night ds slept from 7:30 - 12:20 and 2:35 - 5:55 so if I'd gone to bed at 7:30 I'd have had about 8 hours but was expecting him to wake up when i took him upstairs so instead I got about 6 - I'm getting obsessed with sleep!

Plateofcrumbs · 21/08/2014 07:55

auntie I think I enjoyed the first episode of House of Cards more than later episodes. It gets more thriller-y far fetched as it goes on.

Really unsettled night from DS - obviously now it's morning and I'm awake he has dropped sound asleep!

flymo79 · 21/08/2014 08:14

Hi ladies, can I join? Dd is 2 weeks old, so an early august baby, but our antenatal thread dried up and I've been stalking on here for a few days! We are trying to ebf but she hasn't yet got back to her birth weight and constant feeding is taking its toll on my nips! All MWs/HV's happy with latch, last night I started on nipple shields which is helping but I can't fathom using them all the time (every feed) because of faff of sterilising! Any tips? Sorry for being an interloper! SmileSmile

icklekid · 21/08/2014 09:03

Welcome flymo more the merrier! I ended up using nipple shields on one side when ds had latched badly. I guess only using 1 per feed made sterilising not so bad. Mine came in a case that you put in the microwave so didn't need to use big steriliser. Would that help? think they were Tommy Tippee ones... Well done for keeping going, is worth it!

auntie just as obsessed with sleep- and not getting enough of it normally! Ds has been so good going 4h and so only up twice per night. Then last night due to clearly 6 week growth spurt (sound familiar its was every 1-2h... now fast asleep on my bed so I can't go back to sleep even if I wanted to- totally empathise plate . At least he isn't on me I suppose! Have managed to get a load of washing put on/ tidy up a bit!

Right going to wait until DS wakes and then go get him weighed! Fingers crossed still putting on plenty. Breasts have started to fill up again so DS is obviously doing the right thing to build up supply. Just 2 days of soft breasts constantly was quite scary!

flymo79 · 21/08/2014 09:22

Thanks ickle! Shields came in a little plastic container, do I just bung it in the microwave? Or do I need to add water? Not very practically-minded at mo! Grin

icklekid · 21/08/2014 13:07

flymo check online but mine add 25ml water and 1min 30sec

GrouchyKiwi · 21/08/2014 13:24

Hi flymo and congrats on your little one.

Feeling exhausted and unwell. Have an awful sore throat and SIL's wedding is on Saturday. Really hope I feel better by then but will need some sleep to achieve that and neither of my DDs is helping in that regard.

In happy news I managed to leave the house this morning with both children clean, dressed and fed. /bought a new ironing board and gumboots/wellies (why does that autocorrect to willies?!) for DD1 so nothing exciting but it feels like an achievement.

Finally got Little Kiwi into cloth nappies today - was waiting till her belly button healed. Completely forgot how tiny newborns are, though, so had to refold and of course she wet the first one as I was pinning it. Hopefully it won't take me to long to get back into the swing of things with these nappies.

MrsNutella · 21/08/2014 13:33

kiwi what kind of cloth do you use? I'm a big pocket fan. It's easier for me and DH and very wriggly DS. I want to put DD in more folded nappies but we don't have enough nappies for her to be full time cloth at the moment.

flymo hello! I've sneaked over from the August thread too. Smile DD has only just started gaining now at 10 days (HURRAH- the dr weighed her this morning, she is has put on about 100g and is 100g short of her birthweight). I think stressing about my supply hasn't helped.

Sorry, not much advice to give, but it sounds like you're doing a great job!

GrouchyKiwi · 21/08/2014 14:40

MrsN I use these ones although I got mine from NZ because they were half the price. I've got two sisters who were born when I was in my mid-to-late teens and my Mum used these so I love them. They dry in a couple of hours and I can make them exactly the size I need (though I need to practice again). Have a range of wraps/covers for them, including some knitted ones I made my Mum made.

I quite like the pocket ones, though. Ordered some to my parents' house in NZ when we were there for Christmas so I didn't have to use disposables for DD1 for the weeks we were there.

ismarah · 21/08/2014 15:23

Anyone else have mad ambitious plans they've not started yet?

Mine involve two craft projects, finding builders and costing the extension, writing a business plan and setting up my business, and getting my fitness level back.

Also the usual mum things like baby swimming and serene walks and baby signing.

Instead I have a sprained ankle, a comfy sofa and a sleeping baby.

ItsAlwaysBetterOnHoliday · 21/08/2014 17:20

I missed the sprained ankle ismarah - hope it heals soon. And yes so many projects (finishing my business website for one) but right now showering, putting a wash on and getting out the house are achievements enough :)

Hello nutella + flymo!

ickle DS being v clingy past few days so wondered if growth spurt but not sure he fed as much as last time...

lentilpot · 21/08/2014 17:49

Flymo- I would try to get more help with breastfeeding, we got duff advice from many otherwise brilliant midwives during our breastfeeding difficulties, but eventually spoke to one who conflicted everything the others had said and sorted us out, then we got some fine tuning from the nhs lactation consultant we saw to get his tongue tie looked at. (The aforementioned cranial osteopathy also helped, and was highly spoken of by the lactation consultant.)

Most midwives and health visitors aren't breastfeeding experts, and although they can help most people out, they don't have the expertise to deal with any complicated situations.

flymo79 · 21/08/2014 18:17

Aw, thanks for being so welcoming and for the sterilising tops!! And congrats on the weight gain mrs Nutella, I am hoping for another 100g by Sunday...

flymo79 · 21/08/2014 18:18

tips not tops!

Plateofcrumbs · 21/08/2014 19:20

Welcome flymo - sorry to hear August thread died, makes me extra grateful for our fabulous July group, you lot definitely help me stay sane!

First solo car trip with DS today, cumulating in me drowning out the screaming by singing along to crap music on Heart. This seemed to help sooth him, probably because we had Heart on all night when I was in labour (I'd made up an iPod playlist of soothing music with things like the Velvet Underground and Spiritualized, but ended up singing along to 'Call Me Maybe' between contractions - best laid plans eh?)

Fox28 · 21/08/2014 19:49

Welcome flymo and nutella!

Is anyone else finding it difficult to get out and about? We've been out a few times, but I feel quite anxious, and haven't been out on my own with dd yet. When did you all feel confident to just go out as normal? (Dad is 12 days). I feel like I'm being silly and that everyone expects me to get out as normal by now. But is it too early??

Also I keep bursting into tears Sad. I'm worried I've got pnd. But DD is so good and I love her so much. I literally don't even know why I'm crying! Is this normal or should I be worried??

Sorry for me me me post.

Fox28 · 21/08/2014 19:50

DD is 12 days not dad!!

elliejjtiny · 21/08/2014 21:32

Fox I was like that with DS1. I was worried that he'd cry and I wouldn't be able to comfort him or he'd do a massive poo and I wouldn't have enough wipes. Day 12 is still early days but talk to your HV if you're worried about PND. I've had it with all my babies and it's better to get it treated sooner.

Belated 6 week check with the GP today. Took DS5 in the sling so the receptionists got cuddles with him while the GP checked my scar. DS5 is mostly fine, bit of reflux and low tone. I've had my anti-d's doubled and been referred for an ultrasound and blood tests for my erratic periods and to check my iron levels. My BP was a bit high too but that's probably stress so she's going to do it again in 3 weeks. Also no contraception allowed until after the tests so no sex for a bit longer. I'm too tired anyway.

I think DS3 has impetigo so that's another trip to the GP tomorrow. Feel like I haven't been anywhere nice for ages, it's all been hospital, GP's and baby clinics.

NancyinCali · 21/08/2014 23:14

I'll catch up in a bit but just went to three week midwife check and she asked if we'd had sex yet!! GrinGrinGrinGrin Errrrrrr no. I have been cleared for both sex and exercise now though. DH was in the room so he probably thinks he'll be in luck soon Wink.
